Misuse of Central Institutions

Congress Has No Noble Motive

Andhra Pradesh politics is taking twists and turns because of the arrest of Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSR Congress leader. CBI has arrested and charge sheeted him for possessing assets disproportionate to the source of his known income. Nobody believes that the Central government headed by the Congress is keen to punish people involved in scams for maintaining purity in the public life. People know that it is all humbug. Central government headed by the Congress is involved in many scams amounting to billions of dollars. Congress government has singled out Jagan Mohan Reddy because of political troubles from him to the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh.

If Rajiv Can Come To Power, Why Not Jagan?

After the untimely demise of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the popular Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the Congress Party has been sidelining Jagan Mohan Reddy. Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted to succeed his late father and become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. But Congress leaders both at the State and Central level were not in favour of it and brushed his claims aside by citing that he was too young to don the mantle of Chief Minister Post. But Jagan Mohan Reddy argued that when Indira Gandhi was assassinated, her son Rajiv Gandhi was inducted as a Prime Minister at a young age. This only irritated Sonia Gandhi and from on the Congress wanted to finish off Jagan Mohan Reddy politically.

Misuse of Central Institutions

The Congress used the institutions like Income Tax Department, Vigilance Commission and CBI to harass and persecute Jagan Mohan Reddy. After Jagan Mohan Reddy won the Kadapa parliamentary constituency by-election by a record margin of more than five lakh votes, the Congress’ anger grew more. Many of the state level MLAs are prepared to walk into Jagan Mohan Reddy’s camp. People of Andhra Pradesh are also prepared to support Jagan Mohan Reddy in a massive way.

Massive Sympathy Will Build For Jagan

After the arrest of Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Congress feels that they have finished him off politically. But it is a foolish assumption. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s popularity will only grow from now onwards. He will earn people’s sympathy in a massive way. When N T Rama Rao was dismissed by the Governor and Nadendla Bhaskara Rao was installed as the Chief Minister illegally, people’s sympathy for NTR grew. In 1984 parliamentary election, NTR’s Telugu Desam Party won by a massive mandate even when entire India was swept by the Congress in the wake of sympathy wave following the assassination of Indira Gandhi. A similar fate is awaiting the Congress now.

Telugu Desam and TRS Are Confused

By-elections to more than 20 seats are due now. If Jagan Mohan Reddy wins most of them by a massive mandate, the Congress is in trouble in Andhra Pradesh which has returned largest number of Congress MPs in the last parliamentary election in 2009. Other opposition parties do not know how to react to the arrest of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Telugu Desam and its leader Chandrababu Naidu are confused. If they support Jagan Mohan Reddy, it will only increase his popularity at the cost of Telugu Desam. If they support his arrest, it will anger the people. TRS is also confused because the growth of Jagan Mohan Reddy is at their cost also. Normally TRS can expect to sweep the by-elections due this month. But with sympathy building up for Jagan Mohan Reddy, TRS is now in doubt whether they can do well in the elections.

Communists Feel It Their Duty to Protect Muslims’ Rights

The communists are also confused because they want the Congress to be returned to power in the Central government to protect secularism and rights of the Muslims. They want to prevent BJP from coming to power at any cost. For this reason, they want to avoid criticising Congress for the arrest of Jagan Mohan Reddy as that may upset secularism, in their view. Whatever it may be, one thing is sure. Jagan Mohan Reddy is going to be the next Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on a massive mandate. Chiranjivi’s popularity cannot save the Congress any more.
