"Thou Shalt not kill." (Deuteronomy 5:17)....even the truth.
My Definition: "Assassination is one ass paying another ass to do something asinine."
And Satan taught Cain a great mystery, that he could gain by committing murder.
Satan claimed Cain would reap a reward for Cain killing Abel. Satan was clearly offering Cain a payback for Abel's murder, thus making the first murder also the first assassination.
Satan continues as the King of Liars.
The difference today? Not only do individuals murder and assassinate for gain, for power, out of vengeance and its offspring vendetta, and to maintain control; today sees the use of governmental powers to assassinate and murder.
These brutal acts are carried out, not just against a government's enemies, but even indiscriminately against cities and entire areas, ethnic groups, and populations. All the "great" dictators have used such powers, often preceded by torture of the target or target group.
They have done so for the same goal as Cain: immediate gain, a reward for having committed murder.
Satan unleashed his great secret and it has led in modern times to Hitler's attempted extermination of the world's Jews, Stalin's state-supervised starving of millions, the Japanese army's "Rape of Nanking," Mao's state-sponsored murders of "a thousand flowers" he encouraged to blossom only so that he could cut them down, Pol Pot's "killing fields," the massacre at Tienanmen Square, Gaddafi's "urban warfare," and Assad's ongoing state-sponsored assassinations of unarmed civilians.
Satan's evil "secret" of murder for gain was practiced by him directly in the murderous wind that caused the deaths of all of Job's first family's children. Satan is without body and his evil acts are induced by his lie which persists on these grander scales, that there is something to be gained from murders and assassinations.
As a favored people, one of Satan's first and continuing targets has been the Jews. And even today a theocracy in Iran is marshaling massive state power for the stated goal of destroying the state of Israel.
India's government continuously promotes harmony and tolerance between its own ethnic and religiously diverse populations, while India's military and Pakistan's military continue to perfect plans of military actions which would annihilate as many as a billion human beings and pollute the earth for centuries.
Meanwhile modern day Russia and China parade their nuclear might and rattle their sabers to warn a weary world of what havoc they can unleash.
And America? Its leaders are less subtle than their predecessor Teddy Roosevelt who advocated walking softly and carrying a big stick; asserting today, for example, that it "is and will remain a Pacific power."
How strange is that? Pacific refers to an ocean and not to America's declining sense of peaceful power. (The word "pacific" meaning: making or tending to make peace.)
Believers of all faiths know that "God wins in the end." They also know that Satan does not know, any more than you, or I, or anyone, knows, when "the end" will be.
Most murderers and assassins have already come to their ending, and with no tangible gains at all. Satan's biggest lie was just that: a lie.
The question is often asked: "Why does an omnipotent and omnipresent God allow such things to happen?"
The answer is too infrequently suggested that: "Perhaps it is so that mankind's Almighty and Righteous God can judge the unrighteous righteously."
As for the rest of God's children?
Beware, for the King of Liars is already condemned, and has been from his fall. But God also commanded all of His children: "Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another." (Leviticus 19:11)
