Barack Obama: The Magic "Nigger" President

The Magic Negro

© 2011 VVeasey Publishing

08/21/11

All of the people who thought that when Barack Obama became the first black president this was going to end racism in the U.S. were either racially or politically naïve or both. They thought all racial issues would somehow magically disappear when he became president. And when they didn’t they blamed him. After all, he was supposed to be the post racial president.

They claim that since Obama’s election there have been more racial incidents than before he took office. Even if this were true (which it isn’t) this would be a classic case of blaming the victim.

If he would've just stayed in his place and not had the gall to run for president there would be less racial incidents. It’s Obama's fault his presidency stirred up these negative racial reactions toward him. After all he's supposed to be the post racial president (not a platform he ran on)

Obama’s becoming president merely stirred up the underlying racial biases and prejudices that were already there simmering beneath the surface but not openly expressed.

It terrified, horrified and pissed-off many people who think that the United States is a white country and should only have a white president.

When he won the election it was like a bolt of lightning striking a powder keg of preexisting racial animosity, anger, hatred, fear and bigotry and setting it aflame. That’s why more racial flare-ups are occurring than before he took office.

This flare-ups started rising even before Obama’s election. It started when he was candidate Obama. Security had to be provided for him six months before security was usually provided to presidential candidates because of the number of death threats received against him.

The Tea Party

You had the Tea party and others angered that he was running for president, wanting to “Take their country back” calling him a Muslim, a Socialist, a Nazi, comparing him to Hitler and doubting if he was born in the U.S.

They didn’t accept him as one of them, (a fellow white American) and tried to delegitimize his his right to be president.

And they were right. He’s wasn't one of them, he’s not white. He’s a “nigger” president.

That’s why they’re so angry and want to “take their country back” because he’s the first “nigger” president and that’s not supposed to happen. It’s goes against everything they hold sacred and holy!

Self-Assured And Cool!

They love to call Obama arrogant because he's self-assured, cool, calm and collected. Back in the day he would have been called an “uppity nigger”.

A black man is not supposed to be that self-assertive and definitely not the most powerful man on the planet. Many whites find a powerful, self-assertive black man threatening and an affront to their sense of racial superiority and dignity.

Some of you may be offended when I say certain people see President Obama as a “nigger” president but the hard reality is, that’s how some of your fellow Americans do see him.

It’s like back during the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth century when no matter what office or position of importance a black man attained he was always seen first and foremost as a "nigger".

If he became sheriff he wasn’t just a sheriff but a nigger sheriff.

If he was a police officer he wasn't just a police officer but a nigger police officer.

Not just a teacher but a nigger teacher.

Blacks weren’t held in the same esteem as whites who held those positions. Many people still hold that attitude towards blacks today and definitely hold that attitude toward a "nigger" who had the nerve to become president of the United States. That's racial blasphemy!

The politically and racially naïve (or the racially deceptive) want to make this all about politics and not race and imply that those shouting they want to "take their country back", are really talking about taking the country back from a Democratic, Liberal president.

They seemed loathed to think President Obama’s race has anything to do with the situation, when it’s obvious to anyone who wants to see the truth (and not put on blinders) that his race has everything to do with the animosity and hostility directed his way.

But...Obama is the magic negro.

Just the magic of his election to president, is supposed to magically wash away the legacy of four hundred years of racial prejudice, propaganda, and racial bias.

After all, he's supposed to be the first "post racial" president.

Does that sound like a reasonable expectation of Barack Obama or of any president? If so, please leave a comment with your view of the subject.

Mitch McConnell's Top Priority

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (speaking for the Republican majority in the house of representatives) states that, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president”.

Their top priority is not to help people hit hard by the recession and lack of jobs; or to create a jobs plans (although that was their campaign slogan) or to try to help turn the economy around or to make the super rich and multi-billion dollar corporations pay their fair share of taxes...noooo!

It's to make President Obama a one-term president!

Amazing and pathetic!

This fits right in with the rest of my hub.

My intention is not to insult anyone but to stimulate honest, healthy, truthful, realistic discussion and debate.

May you all respond in that spirit.

I know some of you think that I'm just ranting and don't know what I'm talking about.

Well, a here's respected member of the Republican party with enough honesty to tell the truth about what I wrote in this hub

The Republican Party is full of Racists

"Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, a self-identified Republican who was Gen. Colin Powell's chief of staff during his time as secretary of state, did not take too kindly to a recent accusation -- from Mitt Romney's controversial campaign co-chair John Sununu -- that Powell only endorsed Barack Obama for president because they're both black. Sununu would later backtrack, but the damage was done.

Wilkerson, who is white, didn't mince words on MSNBC'sThe Ed Show Friday night. "To say that Colin Powell would endorse President Obama because of his skin color is like saying Mother Teresa worked for profit," he said. And although he gave Sununu a bit of a pass, blaming his statement on an "unfortunate" choice of words, Wilkerson had much harsher words for the GOP as a whole.

"Let me just be candid," he said. "My party is full of racists. And the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander in chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin. And that's despicable."

thanks for your comment.

I can see why you think this hub is poorly written (by the way it's written not writen) this hub was an inspiration that hit me one day and I just wrote it down the way it came to me as opposed to trying write it in a non-poorly way.

But the main thing is that you agree that what I wrote is true. As long as you can see that...then regardless of how it's written, my hub has done its work. That's really the essence of what this hub is all about...seeing the truth.

A lot of people especially some white people (and a few certain types of black people) don't want to see it or have a built in defense against seeing the truth of this hub. Glad you could see it. Thanks again for your comment...dig ya later.

obama was the most liberal liberal in the Senate. This set the stage for his failed 4 year term as president.

How any American could have expected anything more than the horific circumstances we are in now after his election shows an inability to rationalize.

More nonsense

what set the stage for his so-called "failed 4 year term as president".

Is this

"Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (speaking for the Republican majority in the house of representatives) states that, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president”.

So they became the party of no.

They vehemently opposed everything President Obama tried to do to help turn the economy around and make things better the country, because their number one goal was to make him fail!

Now if you can't see that...what do you need with eyes?

See, here's my problem with this article.

I know what you are saying is absolutely true in regards to some people. But I find that there are black people (and I'm black by the way so I've had the chance to hear how others in my race talk in intimate settings) that seem to always think that everyone is racist. If my mother goes to the store and a white cashier isn't friendly, he's racist.

Now I'd just think he was a dick or a douche-bag and be done with it but she thinks AHA! racist...

You probably think that they are trying to make Obama seem foreign and that therefore they are racist...but WAIT you can find footage of them calling John Kerry French and trying to foreignize him as well.

And that's not to deny that they haven't taken it a bit further with Barack, they've tried to call him Muslim as well, but it's not the first time they've used these tactics. I believe they also did this to McCain in 2000.

You bring up the TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK as some sort of dog whistle slogan but it's nothing new in politics. I believe I was reading "Hard Left" by Tavis Smiley (written in the mid to late 90s) and he was talking about how Republicans had been talking about taking back America.

This slogan also has passed through Democrat lips as well. CLinton had JUST used it in 2007.

And as I'm researching their rhetoric I find that that kind of talk is nothing new from them. Democrats that have followed politics for years will admit that.

And it's not to say that you're wrong. There is an element of race to this. But I don't think it's all about race and I don't think that it's anything too new. That's been their brand of politics for quite some time. Obama is the perfect target for it unfortunately. But if it was a white person elected from the Democratic Party and they did the same things Obama did, I think we'd still be pretty divided. Bush's failures have made them all the more defensive.

I dunno. I'd just rather avoid all of the race baiting and dog whistle calling and red-herrings from both sides. We can't focus on anything with any substance if we're always searching for something that is barely provable. And even if it was proven, so what? They'd figure out a way to survive it or re-brand themselves and everyone would go back to arguing as usual.

I agree with just about everything you've said. You seem to be one of few people who try to look at this issue in a rational manner.

Like you I would like to avoid race as an issue but unfortunately it's a major part of American history and the fabric of America.

Most of the founding father including Jefferson were rich slave owning plantation owners. When he wrote all men are created equal, he meant the rich white landowners like himself, and obviously not the black men, he and the others held as slaves against their will.

We had about 400 yrs of slavery, a couple hundred years of Jim crow all the way up until the 1950's and 60's and that hasn't been that long ago.

I don't think it's all about race and sure you can look at negative things said about past presidents.

But I've never seen in my lifetime people yelling "kill him" referring to a presidential candidate, like at some of McCains rallies, about candidate Obama have you?

These are the most extreme reactions I seen toward a candidate or president. Everything possible was being done to deligitimize him as president.

He wasn't born in America, he's Muslim, Mitt Romney and others saying he doesn't understand American values or our unique Anglo-Saxon heritage, trying make him seem like an alien, a foreigner.

Some people want to think all racism, bigotry, prejudice etc no longer exist because we have a black President..but that just stirred up a lot of racial feelings that were right below the surface of many people minds

To be fair, Barack Obama is probably a cool guy to hang out with and have a beer. However, as a president, Obama sucks. Under his term in office, unemployment has gone up, national debt has skyrocketed, individual rights have all but been demolished, foreign relations have been dashed in pieces, the flame of partisan politics has been stoked from a small flicker into a veritable bonfire, and worst of all, what little of love and unity among our countrymen remained after so many years under progressive rule now hangs by a thread.

To turn it around is not as complex as many seem to think. I am certainly not saying that it is easy, just that it is not complex. There are two things that we must do to fix this situation. First, we must remember that power is derived from the ground up. Without someone to rule, the rulers have no power. Neither the President, Congress, nor the judges have any power except that which we lend them. Second, we must stand firm. We cannot allow ourselves to be pushed around any longer. We must stand together and say, “No! I will not move to the back of the bus!” I am certainly not suggesting something akin to the “occupiers.” I am referring peaceful protests like the Tea Party. Because of his indoctrination, Obama will never truly understand where power comes from. For this reason, and this alone, I believe that as a president, Obama sucks.

This is a time to study things out and not be swayed by the color of a person’s skin or their religion. Instead, this is a time to listen to the promises and decide which ones sound realistic. Of course, we would all like to pay lower taxes, and we would like everyone in the country to have a job. Those are the ideals to which our leaders should aspire. The promises might be unrealistic, but we need to objectively decide whose message rings true, and then we need to vote.

I agree with much of what you say. But blaming President Obama for the partisan politcs and the antgonism between various groups is blaming the victim.

One of the main reasons for this division is the election of the first black president.

Because of the racial history of the country many people feel offended that we have black president, because they feel the President of the United States should be a white male.

What you call the president's failed policies didn't start this antagonism between people. It started when his was running for office and had no policies.

He was popular and many people felt threaten, because for the first time in American history, the possiblity of a black man becoming president looked to be a distinct possiblity.

The problem with your argument is that 43% of white people voted for Barack Obama compared to 96% of blacks. Those are the facts and show who is voting for a candidate based on the color of their skin. Barack Obama would likely not have been elected if he had been a white man.

vveasey profile image

Rob

Blacks only make up about 18-20% of the population so that negates what you're saying. The 43% of the larger majority of whites was deciding factoring in getting him elected, but according to your math 57% voted against him.

You say "Barack Obama would likely not have been elected if he had been a white man." history shows you that's not the case. Blacks voted for President Clinton, President Roosevelt and other white presidents to help them get elected

Did you view the video showing how divisiness was created before Obama was elected while he was running for president?

vveasey profile image

vveasey 3 years ago from Detroit,MI Author

Rob

So it's not a simple case of just blacks and not whites voting for President Obama. If we use your math 3% of blacks didn't vote for him and 57% of whites voted against him.

Blacks are a minority vote. There aren't enough blacks in the population to elect any president without the help of white voters, not the other way around.

it's vveasey not skippy. Unless you can respect that your comments will be deleted

I said blacks make up about 18-20% of the population that's means that was guess. So your comment about me and math is incorrect.

I checked the data and U.S Census said in 2011 13.1. of the population was black. Black Demographic.com stated the census said the number was 14.1

I didn't say the black vote was a non factor. I said there aren't enough blacks in the population to elect a President without white voters.

I said " it's not a simple case of just blacks and not whites voting for President Obama."

It's more than just finding a redneck in the south who hates Obama because he's black.

Just go to some of the white supremacist websites like I do and read what they say. Or to the southern poverty law center website where they track all kinds of hate groups around the country whether they're black, white, polk a dot or whatever. That's a lot more than a few rednecks.

And it's not limited to the south.

Using a population of 100 people the numbers will look a lot different than in an estimated population of 311,591,917 don't you think?

You don't have to be a redneck to hate the fact that a black man is occupying the white house. I'm sure some don't hate Obama but still don't think a black man should be president.

Louis 3 years ago

Wow, you're backing your views with material from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The SPLC would have you believe that an organization that doesn’t want their children to be exposed to a homosexual curriculum or opposes open homosexual promiscuity in the military is a hate group. If you’re concerned about your children being exposed to literature about sex-change operations, you are a racist according to them. Anyone who opposes their licentious agenda and upholds Judeo-Christian values – the very values upon which this country was founded – is tantamount to a white supremacist. In their view, FRC is like the Westboro Baptist Church. It’s surprising that they haven’t yet labeled God a hater or condemned the Bible from the public square.

If I were to stoop to the same intellectual level as the SPLC, I would label them a hate group for equating civil rights to the so-called plight of transgendered individuals.

They fatuously label people as racists simply for taking a different position on a specific piece of legislation. Do you support the right of states to define marriage as …marriage? You’re a racist. Do you believe that the 14th amendment was conceived to protect native-born blacks from disenfranchisement and not the children of illegal aliens? You are a hater. Are you concerned about the pervasiveness of pedophilia among homosexuals? You’re like the KKK. We’re rapidly approaching the point when support for the Ryan budget will be labeled as bigoted activity.

From what I can see there is much much more blacks being hostile and racist towards whites than vice versa. The white man does not realize that he would be more powerful with a black face. I don't even think most black people realize their black skin makes them more powerful. When I look at black skin I see protection I see opportunity. When I see white skin I see a big bulls eye on their back. If the white man was smart he would spray tan his skin until it turned black. Black skin would really help the white man moving forward. Look at what haoppened to Hank Williams Jr. black skin would have protected him. Black people say controversal things all the time and they don't get punished. WhY? because their black skin is protecting them and it would protect the white man just the same. I am trying to show the white man the light and let him know what black skin can do for his life. peace.

You said "Black skin will help the white man. I don't understand why the white man has not tried to get a race change yet. My mom made sure I would not have all these white people problems. She chose a black man to conceive me with"

So I'll ask you again if having black skin is so protective why didn't it protect Trayvon Martin, why is he dead?

Chuck D 3 years ago

Unfortunately, we Blacks are more comfortable pointing the finger at other races that perform acts against us than we are at calling our own kind out when we kill each other. It's the "snitch" syndrome; nobody wants to "tell on" those who committed the crime even though it's their child who died. This is called "keeping it real".

Nick 3 years ago

The White race are the descendents of the White Annunaki/Nordic Aliens.

The black race was the slave race created by the Annunaki/Nordic Aliens by genetically manipulating the DNA of the Cro Magnon and Ape.

It is no mistake that countless ancient civilisations and cultures like the ancient Mayans, Egyptians and Indians (Indus Valley Indians) around the world depict their Kings and Queens as "fair" while their slaves as "black".

On top of that, the White race burn their skin easily in sunlight, age very quickly and go bald easily, indicating the fact their habitat on Earth is not natural to them.

Those who don't believe and say that the white skin colour is due to the lack of sunlight in cold temperate regions, I only point to the eskimo and innuit people who technically have lived in the arctic regions for thousands of years and yet are Brown.

The origin of races are as follows:

1) Caucasoid, or the WHITE races, descend from the Anunnaki, including the Elohiym godhead. And yes, the ancient Israelites, are actually descendants of the Elohiym royal family.

2) African or Negroid, the BLACK races, descend from the evolved Homosapiens and the hybrid created Adams; they are the EVES.

3) Asiatic or Mongoloid, the so-called YELLOW skinned people, descend from the Nefilim, the ousted royal party from Hibiru - notice I say Hibiru NOT Nibiru - Hibiru/Hebrew - are you still with me here? The Nefilim 'giants' were the reigning godhead until the Elohiym family ousted them, casting them to the Earth;

4) Indigenous or Native peoples of the land, the BROWN or RED races, descend from the evolved Homo sapiens and the Anunnaki - some not authorized by the Elohiym, but boys will be boys, and they made a good working stock of slaves. These people were the ADAMS.

A) The original evolved creatures of the Earth, first known as Homo-Erectus, who evolved to Homo sapiens, i.e., the Neanderthal – eventually this species became extinct due to the Ice Age, the Great Flood, famines, diseases, natural disasters, etc. This race was black skinned with coarse black hair, large features, and type O Rh-positive blood.

B) The original created hybrid ADAMS – the father of all brown-skinned [RED-skinned], indigenous, `native' peoples of the world. The `Adams' were one-half Anunnaki and one-half Earth evolved people. Descendants of the Adam's inhabited all continents and islands of the world.

Note: the Adam's were of lighter skin tones than were the hybrids known as the Woman - `Eve'. The Adams and the Eves all naturally have Rh-positive blood, connecting them to the Earth.

C) The original created Eves – the first hybrid woman, was the mother of all black-skinned peoples of Africa. The Eves, a.k.a. `the woman', was/is made up of one-half Adam's [DNA], and one-half Neanderthal, making her one-fourth Anunnaki, less black than the original Homo sapiens, but nevertheless, black-skinned. `Eve's' bloodline was created to preserve the race of natural Earth-Evolved creatures, who were becoming extinct. All black-skinned races of Africa are from `Eve'.

D) The Nefilim: A race that once lived and reigned politically on planet Hibiru, but were eventually ousted and sent to Earth – they were the `fallen giants' in Biblical accounts, as well as in the St. John family journals. The Nefilim make up the Mongoloid and Asiatic peoples of the world, and originally had type B blood – RH negative – not of this Earth.

E) The Elohiym royal godhead: Their descendants became the twelve/thirteen tribes of Israel, i.e. the multitudes of Hebrew people - a white race descending primarily from EL, and his brother, Enki's, bloodline. The bloodline of the Israelites makes up the multitudes of Celtic, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Anglo-Saxon, true Jews who aren't from the brown races, and most western white races. Note: The genetics of this group is probably the same as 'F' [below] – as both groups descend from the Anunnaki race, but 'E' represents the 'godhead', i.e. the reigning royal family. The original blood type of these descendants was RH negative, i.e. not of the Earth. Science today has no explanation as to where the Rh negative factor originates - well, it originates with the Elohiym family godhead. The royal godhead were not permitted to marry, and bear children, to any other than their own blood type. This is also the reason that the Israelites were held for 40 years in the Sinai -giving them time to 'cleanse' their bloodline by marrying only within their own race.

F) The WHITE race of people are descendants of the Anunnaki. Some from the white race are descendants of the Elohiym - which simply implies the royal family godhead who were/are in political power on Hibiru. However, some from the white race do not have a bloodline from the royal family of Elohiym, but are in fact, descendants of Anunnaki citizens. Their blood types were originally the same as above, but due to intermarrying with the BROWNS, as well as other created races, both groups now have large amounts of Rh-positive blood types. Rh positive is more dominant that is Rh negative, an Rh negative mother may have ten children from an Rh positive father, but may have only one Rh negative baby out of ten.

G) Mixed races – are a result of intermarrying amongst all races of people – producing various shades of skin tones, facial features, hair color and consistency, and blood types. Examples might be the people of India, the Aborigines of Australia, the Blackfoot of North America, and the Polynesians.

H) Esau's descendants – Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc

I) Cain's descendants – Assyrians-Babylonians-Romans

J) Ishmael's descendants – the Arabs

K) Jacob's descendants

We must not forget too, that the master scientist/physician, Enki, did many experiments with DNA manipulation and cloning in his laboratories here on Earth, accounting for many different and varied features amongst the races of people, which could have resulted in

blonde-haired Aborigines in Australia, and the fine-featured black-skinned peoples of India.

Study what actual DNA studies on humans say about humans how alike or not a like the so-called races are to one another.and you'll find that they are are only variations of the Human race.

It's like thinking that a black bear from Canada is a different species than a white polor bear they're both variation of the bear genotype.

When Darwin visited various islands he observed that the same animal type looked remarkable different on different islands.

He accoundted for this by realizing that over hundreds of thousands of years the same animal had adapted to it's evironment and looked different than the same animal type on other islands.

He looked at the various difference in appearance of humans and realized the same thing had occurred. DNA studies support this conclusion.

The Anunnaki, also spelled Annunaki, also known as the Elohim, which is Hebrew for "gods" (deities also known as watchers) are in the process of returning and will soon we will fully experience their return. The first human civilization that the Anunnaki bestowed upon mankind was Sumer. The ancient Sumerians, who occupied ancient Sumeria (modern day Iraq), were hybrids of the existing earth hominids and the gods, or extraterrestrials (aliens) from planet Nibiru.

YouTube is a cesspool of CIA disinformation and black-op acclimation to New World Order agendas (NWO as in those who engineered it, the international power elite, i.e. the Illuminati) which are largely PSYOPS (including the PSYOP of making people think that the power elite are planning a false flag alien invasion by faking UFO sightings with fake UFOs and military in alien costumes. Well, Project Blue Beam (Bluebeam) is a disinformational psyoptical hoax. Why would the elite weaponize space if the threat to the evil New World Order was not real? Space weaponization is costly (refer to the Anunnaki documentary about these ancient aliens or the movie's various trailer(s).

The Anunnaki and the Alien Greys are the only two extraterrestrial species interacting with mankind at this time; the other so-called alien races were hoaxes invented by the CIA specifically to serve the purpose of extraterrestrial disinformation on the internet (and on YouTube in particular). The Anunnaki and the Alien Greys are the only significant ET players in the endgame. The Pleiadians do not exist. The shape-shifting (shapeshifting) reptilians do not exist. The Galactic Federation does not exist. The Anunnaki are like humans but better. The Alien Greys are completely self-serving and evil and are in leauge with the power elite known as the Illuminati. See past the distractions and illusions.

As far as I am concerned, the voters have the voice, and the voice has spoken. Barack Obama was elected as US President. Black, White, Mulatto, Nigger, or whatever, the majority has the last word, and that is the American way. Period.

An interesting point is that Obama is not all black. He is biracial, and again, so are/were a lot of "black" officials.

Most so-called "black People" aren't all "black" but because of the the "one drop rule" instituted during slavery to determine who was black.

If a person had any "black" ancestors, no matter how far back, they were considered black.

If you were half black you were a mulatto.

A quarter black, a quadroon,

an eight black, a octoroon.

if you had even "one drop" of "black" blood you were black.

This includes many so-called black people and so-called white people. and maybe even you.

To underscore the point of this hub that racial attitudes didn't magically change or get better, because a black man, Barack Obama was elected president. Here's an article that proves my point.

WASHINGTON (AP) October, 27 2012 — Racial attitudes have not improved in the four years since the United States elected its first black president, an Associated Press poll finds, as a slight majority of Americans now express prejudice toward blacks whether they recognize those feelings or not.

Those views could cost President Barack Obama votes as he tries for re-election, the survey found, though the effects are mitigated by some Americans' more favorable views of blacks.

Racial prejudice has increased slightly since 2008 whether those feelings were measured using questions that explicitly asked respondents about racist attitudes, or through an experimental test that measured implicit views toward race without asking questions about that topic directly.

In all, 51 percent of Americans now express explicit anti-black attitudes, compared with 48 percent in a similar 2008 survey. When measured by an implicit racial attitudes test, the number of Americans with anti-black sentiments jumped to 56 percent, up from 49 percent during the last presidential election. In both tests, the share of Americans expressing pro-black attitudes fell.

"As much as we'd hope the impact of race would decline over time ... it appears the impact of anti-black sentiment on voting is about the same as it was four years ago," said Jon Krosnick, a Stanford University professor who worked with AP to develop the survey.

Most Americans expressed anti-Hispanic sentiments, too. In an AP survey done in 2011, 52 percent of non-Hispanic whites expressed anti-Hispanic attitudes. That figure rose to 57 percent in the implicit test. The survey on Hispanics had no past data for comparison.

The AP surveys were conducted with researchers from Stanford University, the University of Michigan and NORC at the University of Chicago.

Experts on race said they were not surprised by the findings.

"We have this false idea that there is uniformity in progress and that things change in one big step. That is not the way history has worked," said Jelani Cobb, professor of history and director of the Institute for African-American Studies at the University of Connecticut. "When we've seen progress, we've also seen backlash."

Obama himself has tread cautiously on the subject of race, but many African-Americans have talked openly about perceived antagonism toward them since Obama took office. As evidence, they point to events involving police brutality or cite bumper stickers, cartoons and protest posters that mock the president as a lion or a monkey, or lynch him in effigy.

"Part of it is growing polarization within American society," said Fredrick Harris, director of the Institute for Research in African-American Studies at Columbia University. "The last Democrat in the White House said we had to have a national discussion about race. There's been total silence around issues of race with this president. But, as you see, whether there is silence, or an elevation of the discussion of race, you still have polarization. It will take more generations, I suspect, before we eliminate these deep feelings."

Overall, the survey found that by virtue of racial prejudice, Obama could lose 5 percentage points off his share of the popular vote in his Nov. 6 contest against Republican challenger Mitt Romney. However, Obama also stands to benefit from a 3 percentage point gain due to pro-black sentiment, researchers said. Overall, that means an estimated net loss of 2 percentage points due to anti-black attitudes.

The poll finds that racial prejudice is not limited to one group of partisans. Although Republicans were more likely than Democrats to express racial prejudice in the questions measuring explicit racism (79 percent among Republicans compared with 32 percent among Democrats), the implicit test found little difference between the two parties. That test showed a majority of both Democrats and Republicans held anti-black feelings (55 percent of Democrats and 64 percent of Republicans), as did about half of political independents (49 percent).

Obama faced a similar situation in 2008, the survey then found.

The Associated Press developed the surveys to measure sensitive racial views in several ways and repeated those studies several times between 2008 and 2012.

The explicit racism measures asked respondents whether they agreed or disagreed with a series of statements about black and Hispanic people. In addition, the surveys asked how well respondents thought certain words, such as "friendly," ''hardworking," ''violent" and "lazy," described blacks, whites and Hispanics.

The same respondents were also administered a survey designed to measure implicit racism, in which a photo of a black, Hispanic or white male flashed on the screen before a neutral image of a Chinese character. The respondents were then asked to rate their feelings toward the Chinese character. Previous research has shown that people transfer their feelings about the photo onto the character, allowing researchers to measure racist feelings even if a respondent does not acknowledge them.

Results from those questions were analyzed with poll takers' ages, partisan beliefs, views on Obama and Romney and other factors, which allowed researchers to predict the likelihood that people would vote for either Obama or Romney. Those models were then used to estimate the net impact of each factor on the candidates' support.

All the surveys were conducted online. Other research has shown that poll takers are more likely to share unpopular attitudes when they are filling out a survey using a computer rather than speaking with an interviewer. Respondents were randomly selected from a nationally representative panel maintained by GfK Custom Research.

Overall results from each survey have a margin of sampling error of approximately plus or minus 4 percentage points. The most recent poll, measuring anti-black views, was conducted Aug. 30 to Sept. 11.

Andra Gillespie, an Emory University political scientist who studies race-neutrality among black politicians, contrasted the situation to that faced by the first black mayors elected in major U.S. cities, the closest parallel to Obama's first-black situation. Those mayors, she said, typically won about 20 percent of the white vote in their first races, but when seeking reelection they enjoyed greater white support presumably because "the whites who stayed in the cities ... became more comfortable with a black executive."

"President Obama's election clearly didn't change those who appear to be sort of hard-wired folks with racial resentment," she said.

Negative racial attitudes can manifest in policy, noted Alan Jenkins, an assistant solicitor general during the Clinton administration and now executive director of the Opportunity Agenda think tank.

"That has very real circumstances in the way people are treated by police, the way kids are treated by teachers, the way home seekers are treated by landlords and real estate agents," Jenkins said.

Hakeem Jeffries, a New York state assemblyman and candidate for a congressional seat being vacated by a fellow black Democrat, called it troubling that more progress on racial attitudes had not been made. Jeffries has fought a New York City police program of "stop and frisk" that has affected mostly blacks and Latinos but which supporters contend is not racially focused.

"I do remain cautiously optimistic that the future of America bends toward the side of increased racial tolerance," Jeffries said. "We've come a long way, but clearly these results demonstrate there's a long way to go."

vveasey,

I know what Hank williams said was stupid but I don't think he would have gotten fired if he was black.

Trayvon Martin- I know people don't mess with you as much if you are black most of the time. There is a certain respect a black man will get no other man gets. Black skin is like a shield. Trayvon Martin is an exception to the rule. My Dad (black) was in prison for 2 years and he said he would not have wanted to be white inside that prison. Peace.

how do you know Hank Williams wouldn't have been fired if he was black?

You say black skin is a shield but because Trayvon Martin's black skin did't protect him, his death was an exception.

I'm sorry but this is the most stupid, how should we say it, Shit

I've heard in a long time, dressed up to make it look like it's not shit.

You say "My Dad (black) was in prison for 2 years and he said he would not have wanted to be white inside that prison."

Your dad shouldn't want to be in prison period, no matter what his skin color.

If black skin is a shield why were thousands of black men lynched, during the Jim Crow era for no other reason then they were black?

Why didn't their black skin keep them for being lynched?

Uh Ok.. let me guess...this was an exception

B-Dawg 3 years ago

vveasey,

Back in the Jim crow era it was just the opposite. Back then all light skin blacks wanted to pass as white. I want everyone to be safe. But I can tell you a lot of whites are choosing to have children with blacks. One of the reasons is they feel their kids will be safer. If a white breeds with asian or hispanic they are still considered white. All the white mans sins in the past and even some in the present are why it would be dangerous to be a white man now. The white man has a lot of enemies and some whites are choosing not to pass on their white genes.

Nobody wants to be in prison but you are more likely to get out alive if you got some pigmentation. I will agree it is probably safer to have white skin when dealing with police though.

B-Dawg

You don't know the history of Jim Crow or you're making up your own version of it.

There were far more black/dark skin African Americans than there were light skin African Americans during that era.

All you have to do is just look at some of pictures and drawings of black people during that era.

And even if there were light skin blacks many of them still had so called negroid features, kinky hair. full lips, wide noses etc.

So you should know, even today, not many light skin blacks can pass for white.

Are you saying that light skin is the only thing that makes someone white or look white?

You say" I will agree it is probably safer to have white skin when dealing with police though".

But according to you, black skin protects black people, so why is it safer to have white skin when dealing with the police?

Let it go. Most blacks couldn't find Romney's house with a map and instructions (possibly even a personal guide). The few that did, wouldn't make it past security.

I guess your point was that there are a lot of racist running our country. Try a lot of rich elitist beyond racism because money shapes them. All the damage done was well created by the previous party and 20 years of National robbery committed by both parties stealing a profit. This has been the sickest age of greed ever imagined in our history. You do not have to judge Obama because no president could have done better with this mess. Everyone who condemns him can not provide a better what if. I never vote party and Romney what did the guy have? I could not understand how someone of no substance even got the number of votes he got. If we are bankrupt we are going to be taxed and still the fiscal cliff waits. The purpose of Government is not to go bankrupt and to balance the budget. Tell me after all the bail outs how the rich elitist of this country have suffered. Should you continue to condemn the poor and any other imaginary person thought to be screwing others. I guess if racism is all the reason in the World for our current problems that I am not amazed by the stupidity of others not to recognize are true issues. Discrimination makes people poor but it sure as hell did not put us 16 trillion in the hole. The biggest criminals in this country are beyond all the people in jail and never fear justice. Greed is far more important then being a racist. Being a racist is just another tool to buy a vote or another donor. In other wards they may be racist but dividing and conquering any way they can to avoid the truth is far more important to their agenda. Skip the card and stay on topic is how you win and it makes them look like the true idiots they are.

good points and I agree about greed and your other points, but racism, bigotry, white supremacy, gender bias. etc, etc are all important parts of the picture.

As for "staying on topic" I'm on topic. This hub is me expressing my topic.

My point is racism is about dividing people and keeping them on the subject rather then allowing people to focus on what they hope you will not pay attention to. Look at all the racist who voted racist and not for any real voice or concern for themselves. Staying on subject is avoiding the argument they hope will divide us. Staying on point is how we destroy them by not playing their game. They choose to be racist most of all because they got nothing. I wrote my own on here before but found freedom of speech to be non-existent and choose to right else where.

where are you writing?

Sanxuary 3 years ago

I wrote on your blog it was more effective then writing a blog on here. I am also many chapters into writing a book. My point was the fact that those in an elite club do not see race. All they see is a deck of cards they play only when they need them. For example if I had the money to give my children everything they want, I would be the worst person to give them what they want. Anyone else giving them what they want forces them to desire a reason to earn it. The fact that they feel obligated to return there good will for something was the great job I did. Unfortunately, this ideal seldom works in Politics if you give them what they want, such as your vote. Why play a card that does not need played when you own the deck. I hope he does something positive to put an end to racism but he knows this is a hard card to play with out dividing and losing. He is that father afraid of spoiling someone in the World he probably has never lived in. I guess if everyone gets health insurance that no one can afford might forward the desire everyone to be employed to pay for it.

Interesting comments

You said "If I had the money to give my children everything they want, I would be the worst person to give them what they want."

A good parent wouldn't give their children everything they want. Suppose they wanted something that would kill them?

You say "I hope he does something positive to put an end to racism "

I assume you mean President Obama

If you think President Obama can put and end to racism. I have to respectively say your a little naïve.

What could President Obama do to end racism? Wave his magic wand?

You say " I guess if everyone gets health insurance that no one can afford might forward the desire everyone to be employed to pay for it." This statement makes no sense

How can everyone get health insurance they can't afford?

If they can't afford it how can they get it?

If can afford it they would be working to pay for it.

Sanxuary 3 years ago

Around 50 percent of us can not afford to pay health insurance. Even if you have insurance it can still bankrupt you. The obvious issue is that it is simply to expensive and most of us are not making enough. I can not even understand the argument against Universal health care, even with out it we are still paying for it. We might not be able to fight racism but we are all sure going to pay for it. So maybe its more important to get the economy going and getting everyone employed so that we can. So if you prefer to be a racist and not employ someone I guess we call this kicking your own butt. If everyone is getting health care regardless I would have to wonder why someone healthy is not being employed. To sum it up racism really needs to go away. I guess I write in parables but I know Obama can do some things to fight racism. I could name a hundred things that could be fixed in employment alone. Conflict resolution and third party channels to solve them would have probably stopped Mr Dorner and countless others from going on a shooting sprees. The inability to negotiate or be heard is are Nations biggest issue today.

That's right.

Because when you have people opposing everything you do to try to make things better, how can you effectively bring about change?

Then they blame you for not achieving more, when there are the very people throwing up road blocks to stop you from being effective.

You said "I would have to wonder why someone healthy is not being employed".

This is another naïve statement.

All doing the civil rights movement there were millions of healthy black men who weren't allowed to be part of unions and guilds and weren't hired for jobs, but white men were, not because the weren't healthy, but because, you guessed it...they were black

And you can be healthy not be able to find a job

Sanxuary 3 years ago

Agree. I got a long report explaining how discrimination can be done to any one in this modern era. Applying on line for instance insures that no one would even know. Temp agencies are even more discriminatory if they want to be. None of this matters who you our because it can be done to anyone. I have been turned away many times by simply refusing to give them my personal information because I demanded to see a job offer first. You can walk into any business and count employee ratio's. I have seen 99 out of 100 women to men and vice versa. How can I be surprised I never got an interview when only one male works in the place? How can these places claim they are equal opportunity employers? There is plenty of discrimination going on.

Or, it could just be that they have a problem with the fact that the most unqualified individual ever elected to the presidency has managed to run up more crushing debt in one term than any other president in history and is well on track to run up more crushing debt than EVERY PRESIDENT IN US HISTORY COMBINED. Well of course you have. Why would anyone in their right mind hire someone who starts off uncooperative? It's only going to get worse if you are actually hired. Nothing good will come of it guaranteed. I'd show you the door in short order. I had one like you who immediately starting whining about the credit check we require as soon as she got the job application. I simply informed her that this was "not going to work out" and that she was "free to leave now". I am certainly not going to waste my valuable time with an applicant who starts off giving me static before the interview even starts. Especially not when I have 50 m0re people right behind her wanting interviews who are cooperative.

Funny how the overwhelming majority of people who "can't afford insurance" can always afford the latest iphone and video game systems huh? If you think insurance is hard to afford now just wait until Obamacare kicks in and really drives health insurance costs through the roof. You haven't seen anything yet and people are starting to realize just how bad a blunder it really is.

" I can not even understand the argument against Universal health care, "

Gee a federal government than can't even manage it's own budget without running trillions in crushing deficits, managing healthcare, what could possible go wrong?

Sanxuary 3 years ago

I would have preferred some form of cost control and honest price indexing over health care before moving on universal health care. Unfortunately, it has been tried and there is always a loop hole to go after maximum profits. It should not cost half a grand to find out you got a cold. 120.00 dollars for 30 minutes to hear yourself talk to a mental health provider or 25 dollars for a 5 cent band aid. Moving to Universal Health care this is going to end because not even the Government can afford it. A happy medium will eventually be found and it still should be a good living. It just will not be as profitable as it once was.

Powell was made a patsy and was forced to lie to the World at the United Nations. I doubt he has much loyalty to the Republican Party after that. The claim that Obama ran the debt up is another false accusation since the bail out was the reason for the debt and it was going to happen with or with-out him. The biggest reason for the debt was no taxes on the rich and we are still waiting for Corporations to pay taxes some day.

Anyone should know better than to issue or wish death threats to a public official, especially the President of the US. That is insane and a blatant disrect for the office of the the highest official in our country. It is not about Obama, but about respect for the office. Such people are setting the stage for disrespect of later presidents. I have disliked the programs of many presidents, but I have never disrespected them so grossly. I can understand why some people lose all of their privacy in and out of their homes. Such people are begging for their computers, phones, homes, family, associates and daily activities to be monitored without their knowledge.

If you do not like what you see in the White House, get up there and make a difference. What good is an inactive know-it-all who only releases hot air? Forget the fatmouthing, and become a positive part of the solution. I am just giving my opinion.

Let it be known that Obama is biracial, not Black. He is White and Black. That is not an opinion.

Hi Levertis Steele

thanks for the well wishes.

Yeah your right hubpages disabled ads on this hub and some of my other "controversial" hubs. They claim that their advertisers are "sensitive" about controversial content, but I think it's more them than their advertisers. I had a hub published for 4 years with lots of views and comments. Recently, all of a sudden they disabled ads on my hub because "advertisers" might be sensitive about the hub content.

After 4 yrs?

It took them 4 yrs to decide advertisers might find the hub's content too "sensitive?"

Please

Apparently, the ads fatten HubPages pockets, so, they are going to please them. You know the saying, "It's all about the Benjamins."

I agree with an author who said that a hub could be perfect, but, if it is believed to be a threat to business, it will get the axe.

He's the most dishonest ingenuous president we have ever had. He lied about Libya and sent i=his minions on the road to lie for him. He lied through his teeth about ObamaCare ("if you like your doctor you can keep him; if you like your health plan you can keep it..."). He breaks the law as he hands out exemptions to his arrogant and ill-conceived laws to his backers. He gets away with it because he's liberal and because he's black. In 2016 let's just vote for whomever is most qualified. Affirmative action is just another name for bias. Let's learn from our mistakes. No more affirmative action presidents!
