Cabinet Reshuffle

Credibility Of Congress Party At A Low

The central government in India has undertaken a meaningless Cabinet reshuffle. At a time when the credibility of the ruling Congress Party and the central government in India are being at their lowest ebb, this meaningless exercise will not contribute to any improvement in the government administration. On the other hand it will only reward the loyalists of Rahul Gandhi who have been given vital cabinet posts.

Chidambaram Is An Inefficient And Unpopular Minister

It is clearly at the dictates of Rahul Gandhi that the cabinet reshuffle was carried on. Many of the Rahul Gandhi’s brigades in the Congress got rewarded. Seventeen new faces have been inducted in the Cabinet. Chidambaram has been retained in the finance for his experience and skill. But Chidambaram may prove to be a liability to the Congress as the parliamentary elections are approaching. Chidambaram has lowered the interest rates several times in the past and if he does this again, it will anger the middle class and retired people who had parked their money with Post Office and bank deposits. Moreover Chidambaram proved to be an inefficient Home Minister and has no popularity among the masses.

Manmohan Singh Himself Is Inefficient And Corrupt

Sushil Kumar Shinde has been retained as the Home Minister. He is the second most inefficient among the Cabinet Ministers next only to Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister. When Shinde was the power minister, India suffered as a whole due to his poor handling of the portfolio. But no action can be taken against him as he is a Dalit minister. This three of the important ministers in Manmohan Singh’s Cabinet – Manmohan Singh, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Chidambaram are inefficient people. Manmohan Singh willingly allowed many corrupt acts to take place because the final money was going to the coffers of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul. They will only alienate the Congress Party further from the people.

S M Krishna Was A Liability

Defence Minister Antony is an honest man but is not noted for any administrative efficiency either at the State level or at the Centre. It is good that S M Krishna was removed. S M Krishna fell to the charms of the Pakistan foreign minister Hina Rabani Kar and agreed to a liberal visa regime to Pakistani visitors to India. That move has encouraged the Pakistan terrorists to visit India and plant bombs in Indian cities. S M Krishna has a weakness for beautiful women. Nothing wrong with that if you are purely keeping it as a private habit. If the weakness affects the public policies, then the person should be chucked out. Take for example the former CMD of Indian Bank M Gopalakrishna. He had a known weakness for women. He granted several lakhs of loan to Kutti Padmini, a popular TV serial actress and the loan was stuck up as a NPA. Had Gopalakrishnan spent his own money and enjoyed the actress, nobody could object. Here the CMD was compromising the financial health of the bank which he was heading. In the same way, S M Krishna compromised on the security of India just for pleasing a lady.

Pity The Karnataka People

Besides, S M Krishna is also an inefficient minister. During a UN meeting, he read out the script of the Portuguese envoy. He bluffed and gave wrong answers in the parliament. Therefore he deserves the sack. Moreover he is senile and ageing. He covers his bald head with a wig but his senility exposes in his inefficient acts. At the most he can perform the act of a joker. He is being projected as the next Karnataka Chief Minister.

Rahul’s Political Mentor Karunanidhi

Actually the Cabinet reshuffle is not purely Rahul Gandhi’s act. Rahul Gandhi consulted his political mentor and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Karunanidhi. Rahul never takes decisions without consulting Karunanidhi. Karunanidhi advised Rahul Gandhi not to disturb his son Alagiri’s portfolio. Rahul happily agreed to this advice. Rahul values Karunanidhi’s friendship much more than anything else in his life. Rahul hopes that the Cabinet reshuffle will sweep Congress Party back to power again in the next elections.
