Celebrities Who Are Republicans/Conservatives

Let's have a political party!

I just got my new Republican Party pin in the mail today from the RNC. I don’t know why they sent me a pin. I haven’t donated any money to the RNC since McCain was running. I’ve always been a McCain fan and desperately wanted him to get the nomination instead of W in 2000. The RNC keeps calling me and mailing me requests for more donations, but I’ve told them I’m not donating anything until I see who they choose to run against Obama. I refuse to help elect some far-right winger. Yes, I’m a registered Republican, although I’ve voted for Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. I guess I’m more of an “old school” Republican. I think much of the GOP political party is moving too far to the right. Some of my friends swear that I’m actually a conservative Democrat. I don’t know, and I don’t really care which political party I’m labeled. I always try to vote for the person and not for the political party. I consider myself a moderate conservative. More specifically, I’m pretty much a fiscal conservative, but I’m more of a liberal when it comes to most social issues. I’m against the death penalty, and although I hate abortion, I don’t think Roe v. Wade should be overturned. I think abortions should be considered on a case-by-case basis. I also believe we need social programs, but I don’t think they should be a permanent way of life. And as for gay rights, it’s none of my business who people choose to love. On the conservative side, I’m a Christian, I’m pro gun, and I’m pro hunting. I’m also a firm believer in following the Constitution, and I prefer a small government. I support states’ rights, too.

We always hear about how liberal Hollywood and celebrities are, but there are lots of conservative and Republican celebrities. I was aware of some of the more obvious ones, like Robert Duvall, Dennis Miller, Ben Stein, Kelsey Grammer, and Adam Sandler, but I discovered there were a lot more. I began comprising a list, which I’ve included below. Some of these won’t surprise you at all, while some probably will. I’m not sure how old the information is that I used to make the list. Some of these people could have changed their views or political party affiliations.

Thanks so much for your views on the political scene. For years I have felt disappointment about how our society has become a "Them" against "Us" mentality. But you point out the many shades of grey involved with so many opinions.

I hate the Left vs Right or Rich vs Poor attitudes as all it does is erode our "United We Stand" credo.

I agree, Don. It's hard for me to understand how anyone always votes for a single political party, but I have friends who do just that. Thanks for reading and for understanding!

That is a surprising list in some cases. But I have to ask about Clint Eastwood. He's definitely not a liberal, but I would classify him more as a right leaning libertarian.

And then there's Ben Stein. I believe he is actually a creationist as well. But I am not sure about his political affiliation because in the past year or three, he actually advocated just printing more money to be put into circulation to resolve our economic troubles. I like the guy but was completely flabbergasted by his stance.

I guess we can say that Hollywood conservatives are much less affected by, "in the box," thinking. Earlier this year I got into a comment debate with a fellow hubber who labeled me a pure extremist leftie because I supported some of the liberal thinking that we ARE polluting our planet. I'm not a doomsayer, but I felt it was obvious that having clouds of smog hanging over our major metropolises is a very bad thing. That made me a pinko liberal hippie commie you know what in his eyes. Total shutdown on any reasonable debate after that.

So although I don't agree with one of your stances, I love to meet another conservative free-thinker. We need more of that! And thanks for the great list, that was encouraging.

Alexander, Eastwood endorsed John McCain for POTUS in 2008. I read that he's registered as a Republican, but he's called himself a moderate and a Libertarian.

Stein is a registered R and worked for Nixon and Ford.

I agree with your view on "in the box" thinking. I don't like to be in that box, either, because I can't find one that's a really good fit. lol. Thanks for reading!

I love McCain too! He had the best health insurance solution. That's interesting about Eastwood, I was pretty sure he wasn't a Republican, now I know :-)

Imposing list, Holle, but you might want to remove the following from your list. Last I heard they were dead as a doornail and could be turned back at the ballot box: Walt Disney, Clark Gable, Charlton Heston, William Holden, Bob Hope, Dennis Hopper, Ron Silver, John Wayne, and Frank Sinatra. Not sure about the sports figures since I don't follow many of them.

Well, drbj, in some precincts, dead people can still vote! lol

Alexander, I've always had immense respect for McCain - especially before he somewhat gave in to the far right's demands.

What about Garth Brooks and George Strait? Are they Democrats?

I'm pretty sure George is an R, but I don't know about Garth. I can tell you he's a nice guy. He has a home in my small town and he's often seen at the supermarket and in other stores. He never seems to mind posing for pics with the locals.

Only dead democrats are allowed to vote. Dead Republicans are banned. I believe in a two party system, I am just not to happy with our leading parties. especially party leaders. I'll wait until the garden is weeded before I comment a great deal about the type of fertilizer that will be spread.

Daniella, great to meet another moderate! It often seems like there aren't many of us left!

"I’m also a firm believer in following the Constitution, and I prefer a small government. I support states’ rights, too."

I'm also a strong believer in the Constitution, smaller government and federalism (states rights). Having said this, I believe that because much of American history has been rewritten to distort or omit the reference to our Christian roots, many don't realize that the founders understood that our Constitution would only work with a Christian and moral people. Washington and many other founders acknowledged that for our republic to survive christianity must have the encouragement of the state. Mind you I'm not talking about imposing christianity on people but encouraging the non-sectarion principles of Christ in society. For this reason, I believe the founders would have strongly opposed legitimizing Gay marriage and abortion. After all, the right to life is one of the inalienable rights!

I can't believe Chuck Norris is a Republican, because his character on Walker Texas Ranger is an honest guy who goes around arresting a lot of rich people who think they can get away with anything because they have money. And he champions the working class, at least on the show. Republicans are mostly rich, and didn't get that way always by being honest.

Who are Kellie Pickle and Troy Aikaman? Also, do you think that Clarke Gable would consider the current Republican Party an equivalent to the Republican Party of 1935?

Loved the list..There are quite a few conservatives...Wow. thanks for sharing.

Just right off the bat. Charles Barkley is no longer a Republican. He is now a Democrat. Hillary Duff is not a Republican and I don't think she ever was.

Duff performed at W's inauguration. I read that she's a registered Republican in Texas. As I said in the article, some of the celebs I mentioned could have changed their political leanings.
