Dear Mr. President - Time to Lead
Dear President Obama,
I did not vote for you in 2008 or 2012. Your 1st six years in office have been mostly disappointing to me. However, I am not in the group of voters who hoped that you would fail. Because when you fail, we all fail. You had a great opportunity to unite this country. It has been just the opposite. The racial divide in America has worsened during your time in office. It seems that you are trying to divide us by race, wealth, gender and sexual preference.
This brings me to the current controversial Indiana Religious Freedom Law. We all agree that for a business to refuse service to anyone because of their race or sexual preference should be prohibited by law and our constitution. This law or laws like it should not allow this to happen. Most legal experts say the potential reach of this law has been exaggerated by opponents. This law is not about discriminating against gays in general. It basically keeps someone from having to participate in a ceremony of a same-sex marriage either as a photographer, bakery or caterer if it goes against their religious beliefs.
You once said that America is no longer a Christian nation. Respectfully, Mr. President ... you are wrong. While we have people of other faiths living in America, this country is still predominantly Christian. Christians are not perfect, but we are more tolerant of gay rights then some of the other religions, especially Islam. We just want respect for our beliefs.
To most this is something that is all about nothing, but many celebrities, business leaders and politicians are using this to press their gay agenda. My plea to you is that you address the nation to show your support for both the Gay and Christian community. Your comments could go a long way in easing the tensions over this controversy.
I remember when I first saw you at the 2004 DNC. Your speech was brilliant! Like Chris Mathews, I was excited when you said it was not about Red States or Blue States ... but The United States of America!
I know that leaders do not lead by poll numbers, but your numbers are not that good. This could be a defining moment of your presidency. It's time to step up to the podium and address the nation!
God Bless You and God Bless America,
