End VIP Culture, This Is Demeaning

The Incident Which Made Me Write This Article

Only a few days before writing this article, an accident happened here. The person was badly injured. Police was there. They dragged the person on the pavement and left him there. After some time, the chief minister’s cavalcade passed exactly through the same spot. Still no one bothered to help the injured. After 30 minutes, ambulance came, took the person to the hospital. By that time, he was dead. Are we living under a government which is heartless and careless towards the masses? The policemen were actually making sure to clear the road before the cavalcade passes. They could have saved the injured but fear of annoying powerful people did not let him do so.

This VIP culture is an acute as well as chronic problem in our country. This is often but everyday and everywhere displayed by who's who of our country. Even though this is demeaning and hits the self-respect of the masses. India is defined as a welfare state. Here we have democracy and we elect our leaders to serve the poor. Once they reach at a powerful position, not all but many of them starts behaving the other way. They start getting all the special treatments for themselves fooling the masses. This fuels a class war. The rich, the powerful, the connected and on the other side the poor and vulnerable.

Bribing to achieve the desired is degrading our society.

Do You Witness This Human Nature?

One of the human natures is to create and use shortcuts even if a righteous path is available. We often try to bypass the normal procedure of achieving something. This makes us feel in command or authority. We want to achieve things by using our connections at higher places with muscle, money, and manipulation. While doing so, we subvert and alter the natural selection procedure. While doing so, we demoralize the deserving persons. Also while doing so, we creat an ecosystem, which is very treacherous for our society as a whole.

This phenomenon is witnessed all over the world. People with connections at higher places often try to get favored judgment. When they are dragged into uncomfortable controversy or problem, they try to use their clout to turn the table in their favor. Often times, truth is suppressed and lies are manufactured. With money, witnesses are purchased. With power, witnesses are threatened. With money, power and connections, evidences are created and a favorable judgment is achieved.

Most Obnoxious is Blocking Of Traffic?

One of the menaces is blocking the whole traffic to pass an entourage dubbed as very very important person (VVIP). If these people are VVIP, are we very very less important? Is our waiting and wasting hours does not matter? In many countries, only ambulances, fire extinguishing vehicle or police chasing a criminal or tackling an emergency situation is accepted by the public for such blockages; but in our country, if you are a higher government official or a minister you can do so. Often times, people get late in their offices, ambulances get stuck, lot of productive hour is wasted, recently a female gave birth in the road due to such blockages.

My sincere appeal would be to install the self-respect in the masses by end of this VIP culture, as this is really demeaning to us.

That was such a sad story. I do hope that some of the VIPs read it and try to do something about it. Thanks for writing.

Thank BlossomSB for making such a lovely and realistic comment. I too wish that people who are up above the normal layman or in the policy making should try help create a better social structure. A structure where poor should not feel left from the mainstream.

Your opening story is shocking and very sad. The system that you describe definitely needs to change!

How sad that such a large country has something like this going on. People need to organize and exercise their rights.

I too strongly feel the same way AliciaC and hope this change will be visible within my lifetime and our children would not have to struggle for such idiotic things.

These or similar things happen whenever someone gets more power than they can handle. A shame.

Yes Au fait you are quite right in stating. I took think that there should be always be check and balances. Otherwise, things can go the wrong way and powerful and connected people start fulfilling their personal wishes with arrogance.

Sad story, but unfortunately far too common. Once people are at the top, they just care about themselves.
