Feed the Hungry You Can Help!

“What if just knowing what a word meant could help feed hungry people around the world? Well, at FreeRice it does . . . the totals have grown exponentially.”

Washington Post

This website offers a way to feed to hungry from the comfort of your living room. The game takes a vocabulary word and gives four possible answers for the definition. For each correct answer 10 grains of rice are donated. As the player answers more questions correctly their level goes up and so does the difficultly of the word. This is a fun and free way to aid those in need of food in the world. While 10 grains may seem like a small amount there are many users and as a whole there are plenty of grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Program.

World Hunger

Most of the 25,000 people that die every day from hunger are children according to the United Nations. On the average, a person dies every second as a result of hunger. That is 4,000 deaths every hour,100,000 deaths each day and 36 million deaths each year.  It is believed that 58 % of all deaths in 2001-2004 were a result of  hunger. A child dies every 5 seconds as a result of hunger, 700 every hour,16 000 each day and  6 million each year. That accounts for 60% of all child deaths during 2002 through 2008.
