Tnx for the comment! Let's hope we're headed for a more peaceful time. Obama and Biden have better instincts IMO than Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld and their gang of neocons. However, I worry that even with Obama we're jumping out of the Iraq frying pan into the Afghanistan fire. More public debate on our Afghanistan policy is needed. The more troops we send there the more of our soldiers will be killed, not to mention Afghan citizens. Seems to me there has been a "mission creep" from capturing Bin Laden to attempting to "civilize" the country. Somebody should be telling us what our objectives are, how much it's likely to cost in lives and money, the probability of success and how long it's likely to take as well as a consideration of other practical options.

In the first few pages of Moby Dick, Melville describes the news headlines of the day. One of the items is: "Bloody War in Afghanistan". It is not a region of the world that it pays a foreign power to hang about in for long.

Thanks for the comment. I saw "Frost-Nixon" last night. Highly recommend. Frank Langella became Nixon for me. One of the Frost interviews dealt with Nixon and Kissinger's decision to bomb Cambodia, killing thousands of innocent civilians.
