God, Thy Will is God: Be Clever as a Serpent, Innocent as a Dove

.

God, Thy will is god.” – Lyrics of “Gethsemane” from the movie Jesus Christ Superstar

.

The counselor INFJ in Jesus provided as a guideline for how we, not being of the world, can still get along in the world:

.

Matthew 10:16, American Standard Version (ASV):

.

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

.

From a feel of the bible verse, we may come to ask why Jesus, the Son of God is sending us out to meet with a very dangerous situation, seemingly only arming us with the guideline about serpents and dove [sic] for our battle gear.

Symbolisms from the dream dictionary of hyperdictionary.com:

  • Sheep – “Seeing sheep in your dream indicates that you lack initiative to venture out on your own. You feel uncreative and just conforming or going along with the flow.”
  • Wolf – “Seeing a wolf in your dream, symbolizes beauty, solitude, mystery, self-confidence and pride. You are able to keep your composure in a variety of social situations and can blend in with any situation with ease and grace. You are a loner by choice. Negatively, it represents hostility and aggression. It may also reflect an uncontrollable force or situation in your life. In particular, if the wolf is white, then it means valor and victory. You have the ability to see the light even in your darkest hours.”
  • Serpent – “Seeing a serpent in your dream means high intellectual power, deception, and the balance of good and evil. Seeing a winged serpent in your dream indicates wisdom and that you've overcome negative ways.”
  • Dove – “Seeing doves in your dream, symbolizes peace, tranquility, harmony, and innocence. In particular, to see white doves in your dream, symbolizes loyalty and friendships. It may also represent a message and blessing from the Holy Spirit. You have let go of your thoughts of hate and revenge. …”

Scrambling the words of the bible verse up:

‘Behold, I am sending you like doves in the midst of serpents; so be shrewd as lambs and simple as lamb,’ does not make sense. It is as if the verse is actually symbolizing the perfection of Jesus’ choice of words and content then and it seems applicable to this age of information explosion.

Perhaps we do not need any of those inspirational books any more that we need to reflect on Jesus’,

.

God’s command:

.

Be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.

In the office, we had the workplace personality typology exercise, which * each team member into one of four types---peacock, dove, owl and eagle.

Many in the team turned out to be sociable peacocks, some were quiet eagles, others were sociable owls. It was the supportive dove that was me that was eventually let go of the company. (This hub is not to encourage stereotyping of individuals.)

.

“ … like sheep among wolves …”

.

My previous hubs have been written following some kind of loose structure. Then I said yesterday that I will rest to not hub today.

During my silent sitting meditation, for some reason the bible verse floated in to a thinking thought.

.

After the silent sitting, possibly with the aid of Imagineering, I saw the figure of a dove alighting on top of a serpent’s head, as the serpent ‘meditated’ on the sand of the beach, facing the sea.

.

I decided “God’s will is God.”

.

Let the words flow out into the keyboard. Let the story take its own shape.

Like Sheep

This generation is like sheep in the sense that many are unawake, just following the crowd. Just because Mr. Rich is able to sponsor our charity works, he is good. Just because Ms. Beautiful is using Shampoo X, it is good.

.
Perhaps I too have that shadow-side, so I write to teach myself about the possible pitfall.

.

This is not to say that Mr. Rich or Ms. Beautiful is good per se. What is questionable is the crowd’s idolatry for having money, being physically beautiful, popular in Facebook …

We measure our success in these terms. We measure ourselves versus others in these terms.

(Other possible pitfalls as derived from the Thiaoouba Prophecy** are mass media, drugs, politicians, misguided religion, etc.)

.

What we see in others is a mirror of ourselves.

.

When we judge others, we judge ourselves. When we judge ourselves, we judge others.

.

Where to go then?

.

The sheep has a heart. The little prince has said, What is essential is invisible to the eye.

.

By returning to basics, we have a chance return to our core, where we see beyond the veil of this world’s illusion to the paradise, a heaven here on earth. Embedded here, right now.

Warning Against Wolves

To repeat from above, the wolf is:

… able to keep your composure in a variety of social situations and can blend in with any situation with ease and grace. You are a loner by choice. Negatively, it represents hostility and aggression. It may also reflect an uncontrollable force or situation in your life …

.

“You may have to have learned to honor your own integrity, but watch out in the company of a wolf.”

.

‘Scary to think that the same aura of hostility and aggression that Jesus experienced over 2000 thousand years ago still continue to our generation. Scary to think it may be possible to be in the midst of a crowd of wolves.

.

Scary to think that wolves “can blend in with any situation with ease and grace” and that the person, even "on the witness stand", in front of the audience, may actually be lying through his teeth.

.

This is why we have to watch out against glib-tongued politicians. They can make a lie look like the truth with grace and ease.

.

.

Love and Compassion is called for self and others when you see such things happening in your environment. We cannot force ourselves to love wolves, but can choose to be compassionate towards our self’s not being able to love wolves. We can be compassionate towards wolves for knowing that that’s the only way they know (from above “an uncontrollable force or situation in [their] life”)

.

.

Now back to the scary part. When someone is scared of something, sometimes it’s difficult to convince that person not to be scared. I am scared myself. Best to share feelings to get a better understanding and see the Light. Below is a video Gethsemane, of Jesus agony in the garden.

.

Know that Jesus is there through the scary parts in life.

The Dove and the Serpent By the Beach

.

Perhaps the message in the vision was for me. Perhaps it’s for you.

.

But in the beginning of writing this page, the message is “God’s will is god.” After somehow waking my notebook PC from hibernate, for some reason Gethsemane was still playing on Youtube.

.

In order to be equipped with skills needed for surviving in the midst of wolves, we need to develop the qualities of the dove and the serpent:

.

  • high intellectual power, deception, and the balance of good and evil (serpent)
  • peace, tranquility, harmony, and innocence

.

As a serpent, for example, we can use man’s “judgmental” attitude to determine whether the individual we are talking to is “judgmental”. Does he (or she) react differently to you, i.e., with more respect when you came back to his office dressed like an executive as compared to when you first came in tattered clothes?

.

Maybe Jesus is telling us there’s no point in being perceived as a helpless dove. Utilize not only our assets but be aware of our shadow-self or weaknesses as well. The weaknesses may be the Spirit’s flame, insights regarding how to best help self and others evolve to a more spiritual consciousness.

.

It’s hard to think that one vote can influence the fate of a nation. But if your vote is in alignment with the Divine Will, it may turn out to be the prophecy for the presidency. God’s will is god, no matter what we perceive the majority thinks.

.

.

A “plain house wife” once was voted to the presidency, contrary to her wishes. She was a very private family person and the tasks of being president was mostly opposite to what she knew herself to be. But her running was the only chance to unite a divided opposition against the well-entrenched ruthless dictatorship.

.

“Should I run?” was the question she asked herself.

.

She went up to the mountains and prayed and meditated among a spiritual community. And came back with her decision and in deed took up the challenges of fulfilling the tasks of the presidency.

.

It can be scary when done all alone.

.

But it’s alright to be afraid. SomeOne walks beside us, every step of the way. Always.

.

What we are is God’s will. What we decide to do with what we are is up to us.

.

.
