Ground Zero in NY and the Muslims

Maybe it is because I am on the West Coast, far removed from the NYC panic attack. Maybe it is because I knew no one who died in the Sept 11th attack in 2001, but, New Yorkers need to chill out about the recent anti-Islamic and Muslim verbal warfare barraging the news regarding their desire to build a mosque nearby the "sacred" massacre site of Twin Towers.

When I first heard his, I, too, was outraged by the gall of Muslims wanting to do this, after their "pearl harbor" attack in 2001. I thought they were building it for spite and directly adjacent to the area. It did anger me. However, since that initial report, logic prevailed. First, it wasn't Islam or Muslims that did the horrific 9\11 event, it was al-Qaeda. Some 20 of them, that has a grudge toward America and the Western World, they happen to be extreme Muslims in Islam. To think all Muslims share the same POV is simply Nazi-like, as Hitler did with the Jews and the German people more or less followed him. Secondly, the mosque is a good two effing blocks from this site, it is thus, well removed from it and nothing can prevent it- it is real estate.

Granted, like Obama stated, it may not be the smart thing to do. It may provoke anti-Muslim and Islamic sentiment. It may provide Nazi-like reactions by American extremists who are simply using all Muslims as a scapegoat for their hate. It is more likely to have the opposite effect than what the Muslims want-that is, instead of good will and healing, the wound and hate simple becomes a virus to New Yorkers. But, hey, that decision is up to the owners of the property who want to build the mosque there. They may regret it.

New Yorkers seem to have their "panties in a wad" over this. As if, the 9\11 site is sacred, hallowed ground to be worshiped because many Americans died there from a terrorist shock attack. They seem to think it is their right to defend this area, to make it a shrine-like, while the rest of America scratch and shake their heads over the news media who spin this for their own reasons.

It is time to move on New York. America is still the place most of the world wants to emulate, visit, and live in. The Muslims can legally build their mosque two blocks away. You can be outraged and rant like spoiled kids all you want, but it still will be there, and if you take matters into your own hands, you might end in jail, not the Muslims.

Until proven otherwise, more Muslims and Islam are good people, different, yes, but not terrorists. If you cannot handle them, avoid them.

My friend, the building of a mosque in that particular place is insensitive, and some Muslims have pointed out that it is indeed an insult, because it is a "victory mosque". You need to consider the history of Islamic takeovers. Now there are over 200 mosques in New York City but not one single Church or synagogue in all of the huge country of Saudi Arabia. A Christian minister who had a prayer meeting in his living room was even deported from Saudi Arabia.

So, why don't they build a few churches and mosques and even allow infidels to be Saudi Arabian citizens, and then, maybe we will be "tolerant" to them. Tolerance is a two way street.

You also need to realize that Islam means Sharia law, which allows for honor killing, stoning of women and does not allow women to receive an education.

Political correctness, my friend, is what the Muslims are using to deceive us into becoming their slaves.

another thing that you may not be aware of , my friend, is that the Muslims were allies to Hitler in WWII, through the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who insisted that no Jew be allowed to live. As a matter of fact, the Grand Mufti had an apartment in Berlin where he designed the gas chambers of Auschwitz. Why they were not tried at Nuremberg remains a great disgrace due to the voting, I believe of the Muslim bloc of countries in the UN at the time.

Initially, Hitler did not accept him because he was non-

Aryan, but the Mufti was redheaded and blue eyed, and, most importantly, rabidly, anti-semitic

Actually, I knew it all and I sympathize. I understand. I know SA is very anti-christian, yet they want us to protect them, we choose to do so out of self interest, not any love for the SA government. Building a mosque two blocks from ground zero, how is this a victory mosque? The extreme islamists, those who do the terror attacks, get the headlines and hardly represent most muslims. Look at Iran, the government is horrible, yet the people embrace many western concepts and dress. I will not be surprised to hear that the mosque near ground zero is bombed by some american .

perrya, having worked down there in the past for 6 years, I think the biggest tragedy for ground zero since 911, is the fact that there is still a big empty space and not a beautiful park or soem type of landscape that memorializes the victims. Having said that, I agree with your opinions. There is already a mosque on warren street which is exactly 4 short blocks north of ground zero. The new islammic cultural center will bring a theater, a pool, basketball courts, etc. It will be good for the community. I wouldn't advise the location they chose but they do have a legal right and we have to remember that muslims died in the 911 attacks as well. I think a lot of very ultra conservative people assume all muslims are terrorists when in fact it is a small amount of the 1.4 billion of them.

If you want to see moderate Muslim, come to Indonesia. Many Muslim women have Ph.d degree from top universities.

Agreed. oddly, the home of islam is our great friend, Saudi Arabia, which has just bought 30 billion in helicopters and F-15s plus other military items. America got over the Japanese from attacking Pearl Harbor by the 60s, it may take that long to get over muslims. The problem is that the minority of them continue to attack the west which increases prejudice and suspicion.

I really can't agree with this hub.

I think that when you quote Obama you lost me.

The game is still being played by the Muslims.

They have spread around the globe and they really don't separate themselves from the radical. It is the same Koran.

This is the same religion that threaten to kill anyone that even puts them in a comic.

It is your opinion, I just don't share it.

Granted, but to think all muslims want to destroy the West is a bit, well, in the Outer Limits.

yes, they are all moderate Muslims, until, like the TV producer of the NY Islamic TV show, who, when told by his wife that she wanted a divorce, beheaded her.

As Pamela Geller says, why don't the Imams remove the virulent parts of the Koran?

As I said before, and you didn't respond to the fact that that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem is continuing his anti-semitism forward via the Muslim Brotherhood.

And, why did Obama have to lie about his Muslim identity?

And why do they lie about the sources of the money that bought the property in the first place. The realtor, Soho Properties, who bought the property was a waiter in 2004. so he saved up millions in a few years from tips/And how do you think Obama got elected? Because of all the Muslim money, that he has not reported to the FEC.

What I want, my friend, is a President who represents our interests, not the Muslims.

This Ground Zero Supremacist Mega-Mosque should be opposed on the grounds that besides being a religion Islam is also a very radical form of totalitarianism that seeks world domination as its main goal.

Perrya, try reading some history of how the Muslims invaded and conquered much of Europe, tried in so many places and then were defeated at the Gates of Vienna.

For those who do not understand history, it is their karma to repeat it.

Why does Obama have to lie about everything? This is a slap in the face and he is doing all he can to turn this nation against him besides destroying it and doing a pretty good damn job of it, I despise him, I hate to hear his name or anything he has to say.

We all live by the rules, city ordinances, laws of the US and those in cities. Legally, the owners of the property two blocks away from ground zero can build whatever they want there, whether it is a mosque, a brothel or a 7-11.The city could rezone the area the property is in to exclude any new religious buildings. But, what if it was a Muslim only half-way house or temporary assistance. Would NYC still try to stop it? is it the Muslim religion, muslim people, or is it the Mosque that NYC has a problem with? I guess NYC citizens want to follow the same path as the Germans did with Hitler and Jews. Little by little, Hitler took Jewish freedoms away. First, they could not meet, hold certain jobs, then any job, no businesses, finally they were branded by wearing a Star. Not all Germans agreed with Hitler's hatered of Jews, but complied instead of getting into trouble. Freedom is a difficult thing when other's take advantage of it and do something you dislike.

Well, I don't want any mosque near ground zero. I didn't know anybody who died in 9-11. I think the whole idea is a slap in the face.

I agree, it is a bad idea and it will spell trouble but they have the right to do it

pERRYA, YOU USE THE EXAMPLE OF THE jEWS BEING PERSECUTED BY hITLER AS AN ANALOGY TO WHAT 60% of Americans want Muslims to do. And that is to have some "sensitivity" to the hollowed ground of Ground Zero.

You seem to forget that the Grand Mufti designed the Final Solution for the Jews.

I have a "right" to scream "fire" in a crowded theater, when there is no fire, but would it be the right thing to do?\

The man behind the mosque project, called Cordoba House, is Fiesal Rauf, a Kuwati. The motives for this project are dual: one, is that the mosque is 15 stories tall, it will tower over the WTC area as a symbol that Islam is supreme. After all, he could build a simply, modest, 1-3 story mosque. So, it is clear Rauf wants to send a message to NY and world. The other side is that he hopes it will heal the NY wounds. It is even a worse idea now than I originally thought. I am sure Rauf has body guards now.

Perry, i live in Ny but not NYC it is a smack to all americans that they want a Victory Center near Ground Zero - there is a Mosque around 30 blocks away from that space it is a commercial center- that could be rebuilt to get clients and RENT into Nys already bare coffers instead we allow what basically is a an entity to live rent free in our largest city and heads- As for that piece of drap liberal arab we have in the white house i am not sure how he stands upright without any backbone.... and NO AMERICAN PRIDE AT ALL- I am not anti muslim as a whole religeon but places like cordoba house, mujahadeen, Brotherhood of Islam. Al-Quada and Taliban seem to have little differences to me .. that would be their names. What happened in spain after the Moors took over they built 100s of VICTORY MOSQUES after they \would Raze churches and Govt buildings - WHY to make a point to AY - FU to the people therew- I don't think America needs another FU-

By the way if the Japanesse wanted to build a shinto temple on the USS Arizona- what would you say to that concept? if they bought the ship they could- I don't care if the OWN the whole block it is not right its JUST A BIG FU America-Muslim Style i lived near that a$4 who beheaded his wife - he was an a$$ I wish he could get the chair...

Have you ever tried mixing oil with water? while you preach charity and goodwill, have you notice the termites within your house slowly gnawing at the foundations? How about birth statistics, that is the silent fifth column. Just some ideas to muse on while you're taking your morining coffee.

I can't agree with this. You say, "it wasn't Islam or Muslims that did the horrific 9\11 event, it was al-Qaeda" but that is exactly what Al Qaeda is made up of - Muslims. And that is exactly what most middle eastern countries are made up of - Islamic authority: honor rape, honor killing, Islamic Moral Police, egregious punishments, extreme lack of rights for women, etc. Because this defines the current state of affairs in the Arab world, it unfortunately defines them.

Of course they have a right to real property, but in this instance, it is classless and insulting to many. This is not because of, as you suggest, "Nazi-like reactions by American extremists" but rather because of common sense. When a religion is so full of hate that (among many irrational events) its members riot and conspire to kill a CARTOONIST for drawing a picture of their god, it's ok to have reservations about the people, as long as those reservations do not mutate into acts that go beyond the right to peaceably assemble and protest, as provided by our Constitution.

It is noble that you admit to having your own reservations at first, but to turn around and insult your own countrymen because of your inability to accept your initial feelings and make them congruent with the Constitutional rights of these Muslim Americans makes your argument seem more politically charged than thoughtful and persuasive.
