Same Gender Marriage

I do not agree with same-sex marriage. All of my position is religious-based. If I negate religion, I see a problem with the unions naturally, but not politically. Since I do not and will not negate my beliefs, I see same-sex marriage as a bizarre and strange idea confused with the right to express one's self.

Many pundits of same gender marriage cite exceptions to the historical male/female relationships to justify homosexual relationships. The fact that there are exceptions to normal marriage in the past does not take away the fact that homosexual marriage is NOT normal.

How could I dare say that? Easy, let every first world nations suffer economic devastation and see how many overtly gay relationships thrive. Third-world nations do not have this type of push for sameness in marriage because it is impractical for family and community relationships. Starvation and daily survival takes away from the imagination of men to do that which is unseemly with other men or women.

Only in societies that are economically free can people explore sexuality. I think it is a good thing to have the freedom to explore human sexuality but not to the extent to change the order of society just because it makes some people feel badly. There are no dogs chasing people down or water-hoses with pressure enough to rip off the flesh directed towards people wanting to have same-gender unions recognized as marriage. This alone destroys the Gay Rights Movement's comparison to the Civil Rights Movement.

President Obama says that he has mused over the idea and he could not see any reason why same gender marriage should be disallowed during his second presidential campaign. I can see no reason to eschew gay marriage either if I were running for public office and I needed a boost in popularity.

Disparity

Section one of the 14th Amendment states

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

  • No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States;
  • nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;
  • nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.


Legally, any right or privilege given to a US citizen must be done so without prejudice under the law.

Just because the Supreme Court heard this appeal does not mean at some future date it will not be overturned by a constitutional amendment. Right now the issue is still young and may take up to ten years or it may stand as it is now.

Same Gender Marriage Will Not be the End of it.

The reason for not allowing same-gender marriage will come in two generations when the children raised in these times decide the next level to push. I would predict it will be legal for consensual sex between humans and animals.

We decided to allow same-sex marriage, we might as well stop discriminating against other forms of relationships. Why can not my best friend receive medical benefits under my plan at work? It would be discrimination to not allow it just because we are not married. Why can I not file taxes with my neighbor claiming two of my seven kids? It is not like I can get the credit for them. Our relationship is valid.

As a matter of fact, why is it against the law for a man to have more than one wife? It all stems from discrimination of a past religious practice of Mormons, people of my faith.

It is illegal to marry more than one wife and take care of them, but it is perfectly legal to spread the seed of irresponsible men around a community with dozens of women in uncommitted relationship!

American society much prefers illegitimate children to those born of polygamy. America would rather see two men get married than one man have two wives--for what reason?

If we throw out one baby and the bath water for marriage, how fair is it to keep the next baby and the dirty bath. It is supposed to be morally wrong for a man to marry a second woman with the woman's consent, but legally and morally wrong to say two men or women should not marry.

To me, and me alone, if men and women are allowed to marry in the same gender, I should be allowed to marry a husband in addition to my wife.

I could use a strong man around the house to do all the fixing and the hammering that I can not do. My wife might like to have two husbands and have some sexual intimacy variety!

You go too far people they say. My question would be why?

What would me being married to two other people do to the institution of marriage? I remember a scripture in Isaiah that says something to the effect of woe unto them that join house to house that there be no room for an inheritance in the land.

God commanded one man and one woman to marry. A man and a woman to marry. If religion is removed from the equation there is no reason to make any union illegal--then polygamy should return.

God Is to Blame and His Laws do not Change!

We are quickly becoming secular in government and society.

Families do not go to church of any kind increasingly due to the free love movement with the Baby Boomers--another topic altogether. This free love brought with it great equalizing opportunities and acceptance of minorities such as myself, but it also destroyed the morality of America.

Everything that was once considered bad is now being rejected instead of the truly bad things. It is no longer taboo for a White male human to marry a Black female human. Well, what about a man marrying a man?

The philosophy is that love knows no limits, and it does not. I should be able to marry whom I love right? The answer without God is: who cares. Go for it with the pigeon if you want. It is your life. With God, there are standards.

It is not in the best interest of my nation to support same-gender marriage. I have seen the lack of commitment of heterosexuals in marriage. I choose not to support another group of people defiling marriage by making it about love only and not a responsibility to society. Heterosexuals are doing a bad enough job already without any help.

All great societies are built on the institution of marriage between a man and a woman. Marriage is so much more than self-serving love. It is about honor, family, the continuation of posterity and tradition. It is about safety and cross-community ties.

It is about leaving one family to take on the identity of another. Marriage was never meant to be a two-person experience. It was always meant to unite the community by blood to strengthen the ties. Same gender marriage partners cannot have blood connections. No matter how enlightened a society we call ourselves, blood connections have significant meaning in American society

I draw the line here. Unless God reveals it otherwise, which I do believe is possible since I believe in continuing revelation, I stand with what He has revealed so far. I stand in support of marriage between men and women, naturally born men and women--to be clear, also no transgender relationships.

A man is a man and will always be a man--it's in the DNA. He may be gay, but no amount of cutting and hormone replacements will make a born male into female. Vice versa for females.

That gives me no right to discriminate. I do not have to accept a lifestyle that is an abomination. I do not have to qualify it either.

I do not need to know what goes on in the bedroom. It makes no sense to make one's identifier that of a sexual act. If a person changes his or her gender, I do not need to know he or she mutilated him or herself for vanity. Gender confusion is just the new name for vanity.

Same sex relationships are the result of genetic defects. And who or whatever created our genetics is responsible.

Man may have contributed to genetic defects to some extent through the things that they have created over time.

But, same sex is no different than the person that is born with extra digits, or less digits. For twins that different separate when they were born.

There are common parts to both male and female, and there are different parts in male and female.

When the distribution is not done completely or correctly various defects from the norm occur.

Hormones, brain wiring and other factors can be crossed and while technically born a male, or female their wiring is of the opposite gender.

Unlike the animals, we humans don't believe in the survival of the fittest, where the weak and bad genes die. We propagate these defects from generation to generation.

If it wasn't for the bisexual, homosexuality would die off. Homosexuality is not normal, nor functional, and that doesn't mean they are not human, it just means they are different from the blueprints of the norm for humans. Sex predators, and pedophiles are another defect of the genes. They are different from homosexuals per se, but they are also different from the norm.

Anyway, it doesn't make sense to center society on the non norm characteristics.

Very forthright with you view. I see your point but there is no scientific proof to back up your statements-- or if there is it is being well kept. Where I disagree with you the most is the insinuation that people are born gay. I believe that people have genetic dispositions to behave a particular way given the right circumstances. I also believe that homosexual behavior can be managed and people can live happy normal lives.

That said, we must always take consideration that people will want to just allow their natures to rule them and disregard everything else. I as a Christian must accept that and be ready to adjust kindly.

I will not hide what I believe. I believe that homosexuals are selfish to force their lifestyle into public view. It is self serving and unchristlike, but I cannot allow myself to be that way just because I think they are. I could be wrong. I doubt it though. I have never heard anyone express anything selfless about homosexuality. I am waiting because as sure as there is a God, there is a man or a woman who is Gay that is more like God than I am who will teach me. I am open to it.

Gay does not mean hell bound to me or any of the prophets I would bet my life on it. It means, sinner who will eventually turn to God when he or she is brought into understanding by God to receive further knowledge on the subject. If one sin disqualifies a person from heaven we are all doomed. As soon as I change from one bad way, the holy spirit is there to reveal another change I need to make. I had to make the change from hating Gay people so that when my brother came out I could not send my self to hell with hate and disapproval.

An interesting discussion. I am for "Civil Unions" because I think the constitution supports the rights of Gay`s and Lesbians to protect their private property and wealth just the same as any married couple. I do not support same sex marriage. I think civil unions are the best alternative.

You know I agree with you ib radmasters, I am trying to show charity here. I say that we should not have a federal law that enforces same sex marriage. I cannot not discount the genetics because it is there.

God did not make a person gay, but he did put the inclinations in the genetics. If they give themselves over to that inclination it will grow until it is unstoppable in them, just like any other inclination.

This is a very thoughtful and timely article.

Now, even though I am a devout Christian, my opposition to same-sex marriage does not stem from "Christian doctrine." I am opposed because I firmly believe that kind of behavior will touch off a set of circumstances that might very well cause the U.S. to self-destruct.

Please, if you have the time do a hub about it. If you already have I will come across it. I want to know what reason a person can have other than religion to disagree with same gender marriage.

I am biased because I have a gay sibling. I am trying to stretch away from that biased.

Actually, "allowing gay marriage" is going to cause the entire Western World to self-destruct -- and that is because when nations and societies become free-for-alls in which anything and everything goes, they fall down and are unable to get up.

Perhaps I will write a hub explaining the ways in which the recognition of homosexuality as "just another lifestyle" and the acceptance of same-sex marriage are destroying Western Civilization.

You view about Jesus being gay may have been influenced by your sibling being gay, Rodric29. I would rather see Jesus as an 'upright man,' righteous, honest, pure and true, 'perfect as God is perfect.'

A sinless man as he is, being the Son of God, as Mary his mother has likewise been so identified in the bible, may we be inspired by his words of truth, as we may best refrain from our unverified conclusions in order to give due honor to his name as we may learn to glorify God in all good things that we do.

Jesus, calls on us to carry ourselves in humility, respect and sobriety when it comes to honoring him as our King, Lord and Savior, or honoring him as due.

One's vague imagination may be misinterpreted by some people of selfish, mischievous motives negating the better description of Jesus as worthy of praise, worship and emulation, being the Son of God, lest we allow ourselves to blaspheme or become accountable for identifying Jesus in a way that is not worthy of praise nor honor, rather, allow ourselves to become willing instruments of personalities often identified with things or acts that are clearly disturbing and not of God.

May we learn more to guide such people toward the light of Christ that they too may be enlightened as they may be blessed in their renewal in Christ, and while they may persevere in their faith and see the beauty of surrendering one's self, sacrificing and keeping away from malice, pride and other sins of lust and of the flesh, may they rather live with a pure heart and spirit, and gain favor from our Lord Jesus Christ and may better see their life blessed in truth and joy.

Edwinoel Tanglao, my brother. I think you are mistaken if you think I described Jesus As homosexual. I intended that you and all the rest of us to understand that Jesus knows how it feels to be homosexual because he suffered for all of our sins and experienced all of our pains so that he would know how to succor us.

My intention was not to give the impression that Christ is homosexual.

A well writen article and I dare say, built upon a faith based Ideaology, to which you write faithfully in compliance to its doctrines and the teachings of both the old and new testaments. I appreciate your confession that your opinions are shaped there and that you expressed yourself without condemnation directing your position. That said, I personally stay away from such controversy in writing for 1 reason. Those building a case from faith based doctrines will always agree and those who build on secular doctrine will always disagree. You can not build a square house on a round foundation. None the less, I admire your honesty, the clarity in which you propose your case and because I enjoy good writing regardless of the content. Be well my friend.

Whatever you may believe in the absence of proof, yet contradicts what is believed by most Christians that Christ was never married to anyone, remains your belief. Did Jesus not encourage all who may decide to follow him to leave everything behind or sell everything they may own and 'distribute to the poor,' and be blessed and 'you will have treasure in heaven,' as in Luke 18:22, http://bible.cc/luke/18-22.htm ?

If you wish to be enlightened on your belief, will it not be best to pray hard in the Holy Spirit, and only believe in what is true in the scriptures, otherwise, will this prosper your faith, or become a willing instrument of what is not of God in Christ Jesus?

Express what is true in the scriptures, not on what others say or believe in Jesus, for many have stumbled and fell from their human intelligence or wisdom, instead of humbling themselves to the truth and obedience to God's words that 'the truth may set (them) free.'

Again, Christ wants us to be one, united in prospering our faith, not being kept divided out of our own wisdom, not of Divine Wisdom which uplifts one towards peace and love, as against selfishness, pride, malice or deceit, which no one may bring when one is humbled when he dies, humbled to God's judgment in Christ.

Interesting article. I am not a mormon, but you are certainly a well educated and imformed person. I too am interested in this subject and will most definately write about it myself in a future article. For me, homosexuals are depraved gentiles, but as fellow human beings, they too deserve their basic human rights. One of these rights however, does NOT include the right to do these things publicly, or to aggressively convert non homosexuals into their sinful lifestyles.

Although I view Gay marriage as a bad thing, I agree that those who point fingers of judgement are not showing themselves to be Christ like. As you said, Christ identified with the weaknesses and sufferings of all of us and has a limitless compassion for us, we need to be the same through the grace of God!

I personally have a problem believing that God created anyone to be gay. It would seem out of His character to create someone gay and condemn thier lifestyle as an abomination. No society that I can think of has ever prospered for long while promoting a homosexual lifestyle.

I'm no scientist but I wonder if genetic links could be found for those who live in violation of any one of the ten commandments or another of God's laws? If a genetic link could be found for those who steal, would we conclude that God made them that way?

Nobody knows it all except God and we can only know some things if He shows us.

God did give us weaknesses to be humble, but he did not create gay people. If people decide to take their weaknesses and us the to explore homosexual behavior then it is on them.

Thanks wba108@yahoo.com for posting. I agree that God did not directly cause homosexuality. I do believe that we are born with tendencies toward certain behaviors which are further complicated by genetic factors due to the conditions of the earth that can cause some of us to be attracted to the same sex.

I also believe that those of us who are unwilling to keep the commandments in spite of our weakness will not have to worry about sexuality anyway since that gift will be removed in the next life and reserved for only those in the highest unions who kept the law sacred.
