Pondichery now known as PUDUCHERY was one place in India that attracted Textile Technologists in pre independace and for a short period in post independance era.The two textile mills were managed so well that it stood next to big textile mills else where in big textile centers like Bombay,Ahamadabad,Coimbatore,Calcutta and small places like Madras and Bangalore.It was also a drinkers paradise when the State of Madras was a Dry state.Liquor was Baned in the entire city of Madras State quite long for some several years.Puduchery has its extended non attached districts of Karaikal,Yanam in the Bay of Bengal and Mahe in Arabian Sea.While Puducherry has a Chief Minister the other 3 places are ruled by bureaucrats who rule the 3 places Karaikal,Yanam and Mahe.The presence of Portuguese on the Arabian Sea and the French on the Bay of Bengal coasts was of no concern to the British who Ruled the Rest of India.After India got its independence from the British the French Left gently while the Portuguese were made to surrender and were pushed out by the Indian Army.
