The Islamic Republic of Iran is Still Executing Children | The World Needs to do More to Protect All Children
The Islamic Republic of Iran signed and ratified the International Convention of Civil and Political Rights and the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, the Islamic Republic ignores its duties under these treaties by continuing to execute children. The Republic also ignores more fundamental laws as the execution of children is seen as a violation against Islam in most Islamic countries.
According to an Amnesty International spokesperson there have been 40 executions of people found guilty of crimes when they were children and of these “25%” (around 10) were executed when they were children. These have taken place since 1990. If the treaties to which the Republic is signatory were upheld none of these 40 would be dead today.
The current regime in the Islamic Republic of Iran could possibly argue that the Rights of Children have improved in relation to their execution. The public execution of children no longer takes place and the “winch method” (the child pulled up from the ground slowly by a noose fastened tightly around its neck and asphyxiated until dead) has been replaced with the less painful and agonising execution as supplied by the “short drop” method which doesn’t take place in public. (The slightly more “civilized” “long drop” method, as afforded war criminals, brings about virtually instant death – whereas the “short drop” ensures the asphyxiation process is prolonged).
Don’t for One Moment Think it is Only Iran Killing Children
Other nation states including some friendly to the West from whence this article emanates are also guilty of child execution. It is hoped that readers of this article do as much as possible to protest against them too – don’t visit or support the economies of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan and/or Nigeria. In the case of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where, if the majority are recognised, there will be regime change we hope that this disgusting and irreligious (the majority of Islamic States DO NOT execute children) issue is addressed immediately.
And if You think the West is Best…
The History of the West is strewn with Child Executions and
Child Abuse and Child Abuse is still part of our societies today. George W Bush belatedly agreed to the
outlawing of child execution but his term in office saw a 16 year old with
learning difficulties executed. The United States
is not a signatory to the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
