Iran going nuclear?

Will Iran be trusted

Tension is building up in the Gulf. Any time America is expected to attack Iran over its build up of nuclear capability. Iran is not denying that it is building up its nuclear capacity. But it is stating that it intends to use this nuclear capacity for peaceful uses. Iran wants the USA, Western countries and the world to believe its statement. But will the outside world believe Iran?

Wiping out Israel from the world map

Around two years back, Iranian President Mahmood Ahmednijad announced Iran’s intention to wipe out Israel from the world map. How can Iran wipe out a strong country like Israel from the world map? It is possible only by using nuclear arsenal against Israel. Iran of course had no nuclear weapons at that time. Ever since the Iranian President made his intention plain to wipe out Israel from the world map, he started building up the nuclear capability for his country.

Pakistan and China helped Iran

Pakistan and China helped. China helped indirectly. China directly helped Pakistan with nuclear technology and Pakistan helped Iran to acquire it. Iran started enriching the uranium in the nuclear plant. Intelligence reports say that Iran is in the final stages of completing production of nuclear bombs. After completing it in a few moths time, Iran can start using it against Israel at any time to wipe it out of the world map.

Cut Iran to sizes

When Israel faces this danger imminently, it is naïve that its leaders will keep quiet with folded hands and its allies will simply gloss over everything. In fact Israeli Prime Minister made it plain that an attack on Iran cannot be ruled out. USA, Israel and the European countries are keen to cut Iran to sizes and pre-empt it from going nuclear. Therefore a direct attack on Iran looks imminent. It is just a matter of time. The attack may come any time from now to within another six months.

Saudi Arabia will be happy

What will the other countries do if such an attack comes? Saudi Arabia will gloat in happiness at such an attack. For Saudi Arabia, Iran is an enemy. Saudi Arabia does not like Iran establishing its Shia brand of military supremacy in the Arab world. Iran has no big friends in the Arab world. Therefore the Arab countries will not come to the rescue of Iran.

Russia and China proved they are paper tigers

Other countries like Russia and China may condemn the American attack in world forums line UN. When the Western nations attacked Libya through NATO forces, Russia and China proved themselves to be paper tigers. They lent only lip service to Libya and Qaddafi. But the attack went on and China and Russia kept quiet, watching the scene in their television sets.

Morally is it right to attack Iran?

Leaving aside the reaction of the world, morally and ethically is it justified to attack Iran just because it is building its nuclear capability? Is it wrong to build a nuclear capability? Did not other nations like USA, France, Britain, Russia, China, India and Pakistan do it? It is rumoured that even Israel possesses nuclear capability. When other nations have done it, why single out Iran and condemn it for it? Rules should be the same for all countries. You cannot apply one rule for USA and another rule for Iran. You cannot say that USA is entitled to possess nuclear weapons but Iran is not.

Morally is it right to wipe out any country from the world map?

Therefore, morally and ethically, it is unjust to condemn and attack Iran for trying to go nuclear. But at the same time, morality also demands that the world should take notice of Iran’s intentions by going nuclear. What for Iran is going nuclear? Iranian President Ahmednijad had already made his intention known – to wipe Israel out of the world map. Now the question arises: Is it morally and ethically correct to wipe Israel out of the world map? Or, for that matter, is it morally and ethically correct to wipe out any nation out of the world map?

Political differences should be settled through dialogues

Iran may justify it by telling that Israel is subjugating Palestinians and so should be wiped out of the world map. If this reason is accepted, then Iraq should be wiped out of the world map because it is subjugating Kurds. Pakistan should be wiped out of the world map because it harasses its minority Hindus and Christians. China should be wiped out of the world map because it suppresses Tibetans and Xingjian Muslims. The list will go on and at the end of the day, one may have to come to the conclusion that all the nations in the world should be wiped out of the world. After wiping out all nations, humanity itself will be no more and only birds, amoeba, bacteria and other unicellular organisms will remain on earth. Is this what one wants? Political differences should be settled through dialogues, negotiations and discussions and not through wiping out any country out of the world map.

Sheer hypocrisy

Iran’s intention to wipe out Israel out of the world map is most condemnable and immoral. You cannot apply morality and ethics to one country and leave out another country. Morality and ethics are common to all. Nobody has condemned Iranian President for his statement to wipe out Israel out of the world map. But if America or Israel attacks Iran, many countries will raise their voices and condemn it. This is the hypocrisy that we are seeing everywhere.

World will be at peril with a nuclear Iran

Here Iran may say that even though Iranian President stated his intention to wipe Israel out of the world map, he never meant using nuclear weapons for it. How can Israel be wiped out of the world map without using nuclear weapons against it? How can you prepare coffee without using coffee seeds? Even though the Iranian president never used the word ‘nuclear’, he meant only that when he stated his intentions. Now the question is does Israel have the moral rights to defend itself by attacking Iran? In my opinion, yes, it has. In self defence, Israel is entitled to attack and destroy Iran’s nuclear capability. Had the Iranian President not spoken about his intention to wipe out Israel from the world map, then one cannot justify an attack on Iran simply because of its building up nuclear capability. It is entitled to go nuclear. The Iranian President’s speech has made it clear that the world will be at peril with a nuclear Iran.

Over one million lives may be lost in an attack

But the problem is that such an attack will not confine itself to only destroying Iran’s nuclear plant. The exact whereabouts of Iran’s nuclear plant is not known as Iran, naturally, is keeping it as a secret. Therefore attack has to be done over a wide area using heavy weapons that can go underground and destroy the target. Similar bombs were used by USA in Afghanistan. The causalities in such an attack will be very heavy. In Afghanistan, over one million people were killed. In Iran also similar thing may happen.

USA may try to install a puppet regime in Teheran

Moreover it is extremely doubtful whether Israel and USA will stop with destroying Iran’s nuclear plant. They may develop further ambition of overthrowing Iranian regime and installing a puppet government there. Even if a puppet government cannot be installed, definitely they will see to it that Ahmednijad and Ayatollah Khameini, the supreme religious leader of Iran are removed from the power or even finished off.

After defeat, Iran may issue many Fatwas

If an attack is staged against Iran, it is most plausible that Israel will do it first. America and the Western countries will confine to supplying sophisticated weapons and air support to Israel. What will be the reaction of Iran in that event? Iran’s military and airforce is no match to the Western capabilities. Israel is also much superior to Iran in defence and attack. Therefore Iran will have to taste defeat. But Iranian people and leaders are highly self respecting and emotional. Already they are anti American and anti Israel. After the defeat, their hurt ego will make them to issue assassination threats against American and Israeli leaders. Remember, what happened to Salmon Rushdie. Rushdie did not attack Iran. He did not insult any Iranian leader or Iranian people. Just for writing something against the religion Islam, Iranian people and the government got angry. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a Fatwa against Rushdie that he should be assassinated. Rushdie till today is living with security and feat of threat to his life. A similar Fatwa may be issued by Iran against the leaders and the people of America, Israel and Britain. A similar Fatwa may also be issued against the Saudi leaders. Apart from this, Iran cannot do anything to shake the world.

Dear hinazille,

Thank you for your comments. I went through your article about Iran. It was a good piece of writing. Your English language, communications skill and knowledge are to be greatly appreciated. You have a good future in Internet journalism.

But I could not agree with the contents of your article. Iran is openly threatening that it will wipe out Israel from the world map. It is not America and Israel that are threatening Iran, it is the other way out. The proof? Iranian President Ahmednijad made this statement that Israel should be wiped out of the world map in Iranian Parliament itself. It was telecast by Iranian State TV channels. It was published in all Iranian newspapers. It is not something a figment of imagination by USA and Israel, but a true statement made by the Iranian President. How can Iran wipe out Israel without the help of nuclear weapons? Therefore it is plain easy to conclude that if Iran possesses nuke bombs, it will drop them on Israel first. Now does Israel not have a right to defend itself and its people by striking against Iran with the help of USA? This is my logic.

Moreover Iran is against Indian government in the Kashmir dispute. Iran supports Pakistan, which is India's enemy. Iran openly says that Kashmir belongs to Pakistan. As an Indian, how can I support Iran?

Best wishes to you

Ramkimeena, thank you for your heartfelt comments!

i just want to touch upon a few points that you mentioned in your response, as you said you could not agree with the contents of my article...

President Ahmedinejad may have made those comments, but the stark reality is that it is out of concern for the millions of Palestinians who have been ousted from their own homes and land by illegal jewish immigrants (that the Palestinians had, out of the goodness of their hearts, given a refuge to!!!!!)

I do understand that you may have reservations due to your nationality (in light of the Kashmir comments you made), but shouldnt we all look past our homelands and say whats right is right, and whats wrong is wrong?

just as you feel israel has the right to defend it self, Iran also has the right to defend itself. as i mentioned in my article, Israel possesses more nukes per capita than any other country in the world - so as you can tell, they are by no means the innocents they attempt to portray themselves as...

Dear hinazille,

Thank you for your comments. You are defending your views very nicely, powerfully and your communications skill is very nice.

If Israel Prime Minister declares that Iran should be wiped out of the world map, I will be the first person to oppose the statement and say that Iran should counterattack Israel and should have the right to defend itself. But in this case, it is the other way round. That is Iran is threatening openly that it will wipe out Israel out of the world map. Therefore I support Israel's right to defend itself.

You say that the Jews drove out the Palaestinians and occupied their land. But even before the advent of Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem was the holy place for the Jews and they have a right over the place. But even for an argument sake we say that Iran has a right to wipe out Israel from the world map because Israel has occupied the land of the Palaestinians, then the Australians occupied the land of the aborigines. Should not the aborigines be given equal rights to drop nuclear bomb and wipe out Australia? Red Indians were driven out and white people occupied USA. Should not the red Indians be given the right to drop nuclear bombs and wipe out USA? Spanish and Portuguese colonialists drove out the local people and occupied many Latin American nations like Brazil, Argentina etc. Should these countries also be wiped out of the world map through nuclear bombs? If we go on extending this logic of wiping out nations for the past injustices committed by them, no country can survive in the world.

Palaestinian problem should be solved through dialogue and peace. Even the affected Palaestinians are not demanding wiping out of Israel. Many Muslim countries have established diplomatic relations with Israel and want the problem to be solved in a peaceful and amicable manner.

But even if, inspite of all that I have stated above, we agree that it is justifiable for Iran to nuclear bombs and wipe out Israel from the world map, will the Palaestinians also not die in the ensuing nuclear holocaust? Is this what Iran wants? How can Iran kill only the Jews in the area without affecting the Palaestinians? It is impossible to do so. But if Iran says that let the Palaestinians also alongwith the Jews die in the nuclear holocaust, then the question arises. Who is Iran to kill the Palaestinians? Who has given the right to Iran to decimate the Palaestinians?

You say that one should transcend nationalistic barriers and take views based on justice and fairness. This is a good point and I agree with you fully. I have taken the view that Kashmir belongs to India not because I am an Indian, but because the Kashmiri people themselves want to remain with India and it is fair also. India's stand in the matter is correct and I support it not because I am an Indian but because India's stand is according natural justice to Kashmir people. Only a handful of separatists in Kashmir are crying from their rooftops for separation from India. But Pakistan is sponsoring terrorist activities in Kashmir to destroy peace and Iran is a supporter of Pakistan's activities.

Best wishes to you.

I think you may have misunderstood what i said. i never said that Iran should wipe israel off the map, neither am i encouraging any nuclear bomb use. I merely said that just as Israel is accusing Iran of having nukes, and threatening to invade it (via strategic military strikes), Iran (or any country in the same situation as Iran) has the right to respond to these threats.

i do not condone nuclear weaponry and do not believe that ANY of the countries who currently hold nukes SHOULD be holding them. But the simple truth of the matter is that the very same countries referring to Iran as being a threat are themselves nuclear armed countries!!!

Any informed and unbiased individual will agree that America and Israel are in no position to call Iran out on holding imaginary nukes when they themselves have nukes. This is blatant double standards, and its unbelievable that this fact is so understated in all news coverage of this topic.

furthermore, you mentioned the examples of the Aborigines and the Red Indians - i am not suggesting that Palestine should nuclear attack israel, so im unsure of where your analogy is coming from. the point i was aiming to make was that ahmedinejads position is that the jews should not be occupying more and more land that is not theirs to take, whilst throwing the Palestinian residents off the land that they own! i mean i really dont see how that is unreasonable?

you also mentioned that palestine belonged to the jews prior to the advent of islam or christianity. agreed. by process of eventual change, the land changed hands from jews to christians to muslims, but it was never a case of the jews giving a safe haven to the christians and the christians pillaging the jews land, or the christians giving the muslims a refuge, and the muslims massacring them to gain land.... in this case, the palestinians offered the jews a safe place (from the slaughters occurring at the hands of hitler in germany), and within a matter of a few years, the jews forcibly spread their settlements on Palestinian land. do you realise how crazy that is? the 5 million palestinians currently displaced from their own homes are paying the price for their ancestors offering the jews safety.

basically they are being punished for caring for their fellow humans. this is not the case in australia (the aborigines were killed and forced out), or in america (the west indians were ruthlessly murdered by the british).

we really need to stop excusing inexcusable acts, and start thinking about the real reasons why we are sitting in our respective countries watching the barbarous annihilation of innocents all across the middle east and parts of Asia.

to conclude, i cant really make any assumptions about the Kashmir scenario, i just dont know enough about it at this point to make a judgement. but from what you stated in your response, i think the right lies with the people of Kashmir to decide whether they would prefer an Indian nationality or a Pakistani nationality - a referendum could provide some insights, but as most world governments if not all, have some level of corruption, i really dont know how effective this would be.

Dear hinazille,

Thank you very much for your comments. Your comments were clear and removed my misunderstandings about your intentions. I am greatly relieved that you do not approve the use of nuclear weapons. I also strongly hold that opinion. I am also very happy that you do not approve wiping Israel out of the world map. I share the same opinion with you. In fact no nation should be wiped out of the world map. All the problems should be solved through peaceful and meaningful dialogues. Even the most perplexing problems can be solved through negotiations and dialogue.

USA refused to shake hands with the Chinese Premier for 23 years till President Nixon landed in Beijing in 1972 and initiated cooperation with China. How was it possible? It was done through negotiations planned and executed by Henry Kissinger. Egypt and Israel were bitter enemies for many years. But a friendship started and diplomatic relations established through dialogue. I am happy that you approve of only this method to solve problems.

My understanding of Israel and Palestine is a little different from what you stated. You omitted one important point which created complications in the Palestine problem namely Palestine was a British colony. In 1948, Britain suddenly announced it was granting independence to Palestine and left the place. But before it left the place, it allowed the Jews to land in and take over the administration. This was how Israel was formed.

The original owners of the land were the Jews. But the Jews scattered all over Europe and left the place. It was taken over by the Muslims and Palestine was created. It came under the British rule and finally the Jews once again took the place as a matter of historic right.

As the original owners, the Jews have every right to live in the place and rule. As people who have lived in that place for many centuries, the Palestinians also have every right to own the place and rule it. In other words, both sides are justified in their claims. This is the crux of the problem. I feel that the Palestinians and the Jews should negotiate directly and arrive at an amicable solution. It may take time, but that will be the best to both. Other countries including Iran should refrain from meddling into this matter. Even Yasser Arafat, the PLO leader did not encourage Iran to involve itself in Palestinian matter.

After Israel was created, it was attacked immediately by fourteen Arab nations. USA offered Israel both conventional and nuclear weapons for assistance because there is a powerful Jewish lobby in USA. But Israel used only conventional weapons against the Arab countries and declined to use nuclear weapons. This was an appreciable point for Israel. Whenever Israel attacked countries like Lebanaon or Egypt, there were hue and cry from many countries, condemning Israel. But when Israel was attacked by 14 Arab nations, nobody sympathised with Israel.

Your observation that many countries including Israel possess nuclear weapons is correct. But by the same argument, one cannot justify Iran possessing the nuke bombs. This is because the Iranian President Ahmednejad has openly and clearly stated that Iran wants Israel to be wiped out of the world map. On the other hand, the British Prime Minister or Queen Elizabeth has not stated that Britain will wipe out any nation from the world map. Similarly other nuclear nations also have not stated their intentions to wipe out any country out of the world map. Therefore it is a danger to Israel, Palestinians and possibly their neighbours if Iran possesses a nuclear weapons. This should be stopped before it becomes too late. The only way is to strike preemptively against Iran. Israel, as the affected nation due to the Iranian threat, has every moral and ethical right to attack Iran. It is upto USA to support Israel, its friend, or to remain neutral.

I really appreciate your honesty in stating that you are not aware of the Kashmir problem much. Your idea of a referendum is a good one. But the Indian government will not accept this suggestion whereas Pakistan will accept. There are separatists and terrorists in all parts of Kashmir who will threaten the people to vote in favour of Pakistan if such a referendum is held. Before a referendum is held, it is imperative to drive away or kill all the terrorists and separatists in Kashmir to give its people a sense of relief and freedom. The Indian Army is trying its level best to achieve this in inhospitable conditions. After its mission is successful, a referendum, if held, will be meaningful.

Finally I want to complement you for the deep knowledge that you possess in world affairs, international politics and such related matters. You will be an outstanding writer, I have no doubt about it.

Best wishes to you.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. i just want to clarify a point, and then i think we have to agree... to disagree.

The Holocaust ended around 1945 and that is when the major influx of jews into Palestine occurred. Between 1943 and 1947 (a matter of years), they took over almost half of Palestine. This is after the Palestinians gave them a refuge. I dont think this is quite the same as '...the Jews once again took the place as a matter of historic right..' it was never their right to oust Palestinians, their hosts, out of their own place. I just cant agree with your perspective on this.

Again my understanding of the 14 arab states attacking israel is not upto par, so i will check that up.

Thanks for your kind comments about my knowledge of world affairs, but i think the credit has to go to my husband too, we discuss world events like other couples discuss social events!

Dear hinazille,

Thank you for your comments. Thank you for following me. Today only I went through your profile and what an impressive qualification you have and a personality that God has given you. I will be going through your hubs whenever I find time and from their titles, they are very attractive and interesting. Particularly your hub on how to grow one's hair thick and long will be very interesting for Indian women who are fascinated with appearance of their hair. I am also very happy to have such a friend in the Caribbean Islands. I am very fond of West Indies cricket team and the place West Indies itself. By following cricket matches, I know about places like George Town (Guyana), Bridgetown (Barbados),Sabina Park Oval Kingston (Jamaica), Queen's Park Oval (Trinidad) and some islands. While Australian and British cricket players refused to tour India because of the lack of facilities, West Indies players like Gary Sobers, Rohan Kanhai, Clive Lloyd and others have visited India with pleasure and gave their best cricket to the Indian crowd. There are/were some Indian origin players in the West Indies squad like Shivnarine, Alvin Kallicharran, Ram Naresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chandrerpaul, Devendra Bishoo, Daren Ganga etc. Even Rohan Kanhai was of Indian origin. Recently the Trinidad Prime Minister Dr Kamala visited India and enjoyed Indian hospitality.
