Lying is the Norm

Chiquita is at the Table

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Thursday, February 12, 2015. Our noisy and delightful friend, Cicada Chiquita, is with me at the breakfast table. Chiquita is sick and tired of people voters elect or choose to revere who turn out to be accomplished liars. She has asked me to invite all of you to breakfast to discuss this issue. Chiquita will be preparing fake eggs and fake cheese formed into a faux omelet, all in keeping with the topic of the day. We are awaiting your arrival and that, dear friends, is the truth.

No Moral Compass

Thank you all for joining me this morning. It is a sad, but not unusual, day for America when we find out that people we have been brainwashed into trusting, don't deserve our trust at all. NBC anchor Brian Williams, now suspended, is the perfect example of what I am referring to. He came into the homes of Americans every night (not my home) and told us what we believed to be the truth ( not me) about current events. Mr. Williams told his audience a story a number of years ago about his close encounter with death during the invasion of Iraq. Over the years since the first telling came out, he embellished the event. At least two times he told viewers that his helicopter was hit by enemy fire. The story unravelled recently when Stars and Stripes presented Mr. Williams with the true story. In short, his account of the incident was fabricated. His excuse, in my view, was inane. " I don't know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another. No, we never came under direct enemy fire in the aircraft." It would have been better if Mr. Williams simply said that he lied, because that is what happened. He didn't conflate (great word) one aircraft with another. He told a false story and he told it many times. I guess he just couldn't stop "conflating." Mr. Williams has been suspended from NBC for six months. If he comes back and Americans embrace him again as their trusted anchor newsperson, shame on America. It is time that liars are outed for what they are, LIARS."

Source

Williams Has Company

Lest we think that lying is unique to the NBC anchor let's turn our attention to former First Lady Hillary Clinton, turned Secretary of State and potential presidential candidate for 2016. Remember (and we all should) Hillary Clinton's hair-raising tale of being shot at by snipers in Bosnia. She told a rapt audience that she remembers landing under sniper fire. She and her entourage ran for their lives. That would have been scary had it really happened, but it did not happen. I can only suppose that the truth in Ms. Clinton's view was boring. She went with the lie and aside from some commentary on the matter, she got away with it. Her only explanation was that she made a "mistake" and that she was sleep deprived. Then, of course, there is the Benghazi terror attack. We may never get to the bottom of her lies in this matter, because she has perfected the art of evasive action when it comes to testifying. Perhaps Hillary learned her craft from her husband who did not have sex with that woman!

Source

The Clintons have Company

Secretary of State John Kerry can count himself among the growing legion of liars. When Kerry was the Democratic Presidential candidate he told many a tall tale. Kerry proclaimed himself a hero during the Vietnam War. His tales of heroics never matched up with the truth as told by soldiers who were there with Kerry. These soldiers report a John Kerry who was less than heroic. Furthermore, John Kerry went on to lie some more about an incident he said he experienced in 1968 in Cambodia. He recalls sitting on a gunboat being shot at by the Vietnamese, the Khmer Rouge and the Cambodians. He recalls that Nixon was in the White House. Well, perhaps Mr. Kerry misspoke back then. Lyndon Johnson was still President of the United States. Kerry could not have been in Cambodia at that time because in December of 1968, no U.S. Navy patrol craft would be ordered to enter Cambodian waters. Kerry couldn't have been fired upon by Khmer Rouge because this group wasn't formed back then. The truth can be so inconvenient, can't it?

Source

John Kerry is Not Alone

Al Gore loves a lie as much as the next guy. Al Gore's movie an 'An Inconvenient Truth" predicted the end of the world as we know it. Mr. Gore claimed that the polar bears were drowning because they have to swim farther to find ice. The only study that exists that cites the drowning of polar bears blamed the deaths of four bears on a storm. Climate Change Al had plenty more to say on the subject, but it is way to tiring to go into it. He says whatever he wants and that's that. Then again he did invent the internet, so we should just trust him to tell us what we need to know to survive in this world. The scariest thing of all is that he was our Vice President!

Source

Al Gore is Not Alone

No discussion of lying could be complete without mentioning the President of the United States. President Obama decided a long time ago that if a lie is needed to get his point across, then he was prepared to lie 24/7. After six long, tedious years in the White House, we still don't know who he really is or where he really came from. He could have solved those unanswered questions long ago, but he chose not to. Sadly, voters knew virtually nothing about this inexperienced stranger and decided to put him in the White House anyway. He has no desire to come clean about anything and in fact it is becoming clear that he is micromanaging all the investigations attempted by Congress to get to the heart of all the scandals including trouble at the IRS, Benghazi, the Veteran's Administration and the Bergdahl fiasco.

Lying Matters

The only place to go from here is to make a conscious decision that lying is serious and revealing about a person's character. American voters need to demand more of those they place in positions of power and authority. Lying matters. American voters need to reject those that have been exposed as playing it fast and lose with the truth. Lying matters. I can hear the voices now saying that all politicians and media personalities lie. I don't believe that is true, but way too many of them do lie. Those that lie to us need to be booted out of Washington, off the airways and out of our lives forever. Lying matters......

Chiquita's Song

I'm Chiquita Cicada and I'm here to say

I wish all the liars would just go away!!!!!!!

Very well stated Chiquita. Williams annual salary was claimed to be 10 Million per year on the news last night. So the 6 month suspension without pay will cost him 5 Million. I would bet they are thinking that with our short memories and this financial hit we will welcome Williams back to the airwaves when the suspension is over. I for one would never believe him again.

It seems we are now so accustomed to being lied to by our Politicians we just accept it as a way of life. Just think about that for a moment. We readily accept being lied to by those very individuals we vote into office. How insane is this?

Getting caught telling whoppers obviously didn't hurt any of the individuals you covered in your hub. Al Gore just keeps getting more wealthy based on the questionable data regarding Climate Change.

Not that many years ago every individual you described would have been roaming the country selling snake-oil and living large.

My opinion is that our Politicians and News Media are aware that we now accept this lying as just a way of life and will never do anything about it. As you pointed out, many are just fine with allowing this unqualified and mysterious stranger to run our country for 8 years. Shame on us.

Good Morning Mike,

The country was ripe and ready to accept whatever came their way. That got us Obama and the death of our nation. Hillary is a snake and nobody seems to care, so if the Republicans don't come up with someone who can win, we can kiss whatever is left of our nation good-bye. As a matter of fact we can kiss it good-bye right now. Obama has taken it upon himself to allow the relatives of illegals he invited into our country to follow them in. Congress is supposed to be the decider in these matters, but they don't seem phased at all by Obama's lawlessness. Decent people are outnumbered by the liars and the cheats. See you at the Inn, Mike.

Patti - Recent man-in-the-street interviews proved many college age youth could not name the first President of the United States. Could this ignorance be part of the problem? This lack of knowledge sure doesn't say much for or educational system.

But I for one feel the dumbing down of America has been planned and executed for many years and is working well.

I believe in forgiveness; however, I don't believe in continuing to trust those that continue on with they poor behavior, let alone vote for or support them. Hillary is still adored and revered as a woman's role model, and some of the people you mentioned are still in some sort of political office.

I was watching Television tonight and heard that Williams got the axe. A hard lesson, but hopefully he will learn from his mistakes and not repeat them. I think there are far more tall tales going on in the political and press arenas than we could ever fathom. What bothers me is that likely some of the hardest stone throwers (other media people) probably have a few skeletons in their closet. I hope not. The American people who continue to vote for and defend proven liars and deceivers are blaming other people, places, and things because they don't want to admit they put their trust and voted for someone unworthy of office.

Williams will be back. People have short memories and forgive quickly (sometimes). I am sorry for the men and women in the military who may have been hurt most of all by his "story".

You're right! Not only in the US, but everywhere. Because politicians are not in charge of this whole charade, they have to lie to get voted anyway. If they would tell that they are just puppets on a string, no one would vote for them. The 1% richest elite is in charge, not the politicians, they are just a willing mouthpiece.

Dear Mike,

The dumbing down began 1968. Now school systems are blatantly ignoring the basics of our own history. Much of this is a misguided idea of political correctness and some of it is deliberate. They must be following the Obama plan for making sure America isn't exceptional. The end result is pathetic. Parents should not waste their money on an Ivy League education. Those graduates are as dumb as everyone else.

There I go again, wanting to believe the best in people.....rejecting the possibility that a typically normal, respectable person could or would INTENTIONALLY tell Fairy Tales to the rational adult public.

When this story first came out, I was SURE there would be a perfectly acceptable explanation for what Brian said and WHY he said it. I couldn't understand the HOOPLA and why he was being scrutinized.

So....anyway, when I grow up, I want to be a Journalist/News Anchor person......because I know the Sgt. Joe Friday Bible by heart from cover to cover...."The facts, Maam....Just the FACTS."

Oh well, suspended w/o pay....we'll see what's to follow. We have to hope that this story is not used (as usual) as a diversion to the really serious issues that Barry & the Bumbling Brood need to act upon! First things, first, please!......Up++++tweeted & pinned.

I commend you for your bravery and candor - better known as truth.

Strange little word, "truth". Sadly, it means so little these days.

After seeing the video of Benghazi, I was shocked and deeply unsettled.

Those disturbing videos should have been shown day and night on every

TV station in America until we got down to the truth. Gee, it seems like no one can remember exactly how that went down. And, oh, well, that

was in the past, so let's just look forward, not backwards. Yes, Hillary,

you just smile and campaign your little heart out. 'Future lies' are easier

to tell than 'past lies'.

Super article, Pop! Keep up the good work.

I agree with all the statements here, but I think it would be incredible if we could limit the lying to just democrats. Although the democrats do a much better job of it.

I believe that president Ronald Reagan, and VP George H Bush lied when they said, Ollie did what? We know the lies of president Richard M Nixon, and president George W Bush knew more about 911 then he was even asked about or commented on.

Of course no politician can hold a candle to Barack Obama when it comes to lying.

One thing we should know for sure is that a congressional hearing is not a search for the truth, but an invisible screen to protect the guilty.

Dear fp,

To me Williams isn't a diversion but rather a nuisance who deserves more than a suspension. I still believe there are good people out there, but slowly but surely their numbers are shrinking. Judging by the stupidity prevalent in today's college students, we probably won't have anyone to actually report a story. First you might have to know what is going on and second you probably have to know how to read. After all, Obama got elected because he knew how to read from a teleprompter. We really have very low expectations for people we choose to elevate to positions they are totally unqualified to have. I'm off to the Inn.

Well Done, and it triggered some thoughts to think on as I read though it.

1) Some people live to the code: If I don’t get caught, I did nothing wrong. Others live to the code: If I didn’t break a law, then I did nothing wrong. Both suffer from the lack of recognizing a need for a moral compass.

2) Exaggeration. I used to hear that term all the time when I was growing up, when my mother told stories about the things she experienced growing up. When I got older I came to understand that traumatic experiences lend themselves well to exaggeration, and that there was somehow a grain of truth to the stories she told. Unfortunately … well … see observation number one above.

3) My reaction to ‘After six long, tedious years in the White House, we still don't know who he really is or where he really came from’ is: ‘neither does he’. Nobody likes to be put into a position of questioning their own genesis. And yet, truth be told, all each one of us really know is what we were told as we were growing up. So, see number two and number one above.

All that said, each and every one of the folk mentioned in your article has several things in common. First, they are old enough to know better. Second, they serve as role models for our children. Third, they seem to believe it is ok to lie, until they are called out on it. What will the future be like when we teach our children that lies are acceptable and normal?

Jim. got news for you, the future you speak of is already the past. "the American people were lied to by the SLIMC (Secularist Liberal Intellectual Media Complex) on a massive scale, and how the self documenting liberal lies regarding the Vietnam war continue to this very day. They have never been refuted. The whole major media, print and electronic, told lies of commission and omission, and their reports were heavily biased and slanted, day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year, for the entire duration of the Vietnam war. Every single nationally known television talking-head media-crat lied, big and repeatedly, on this topic, including in particular Walter Cronkite, the grand master and high priest of the big Vietnam war media lie. They frequently took turns telling the same lie; you can almost imagine them standing in line to tell their version of the lie of the moment. And they carefully, excellently, documented their own lies themselves, in print, on film and on tape."http://www.catholicamericanthinker.com/vietnam-war...

Jim you say, "What will the future be like when we teach our children that lies are acceptable and normal?"

Are you kidding? You are living in that future, this is what it is like.

The Media often fails to source it's story as long it fits with their agenda.

Liberal anything, government, education groups, political groups, colleges and institutions value "THE LIE" to the extent that you don't have to be good at it, just willing to lie on any and every occasion and you will ascend to the heights of leadership and/or power in that group, only to be outdone if you are willing to then lie about your lying. I'm not going to cite examples because the past and present is so full of it there isn't just examples, it is everywhere the way life is, has been for a while and will certainly be no better in the future.

Wake up Jim, the future is past. ("wakeup jim" is hyperbole meant for your comment, I am not belittling you nor your observations because you are right on, just a little ahead on timing :-)

POP: Let's not forget Hillary's ie about her name. She has stated that her mother named her after Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to climb to the top of Mt. Everest. He did that in 1953, which was a long time after she was born, so that cannot be true. Brian Williams should be fired. He deceived millions of followers for over ten years. I did learn a new word though "misremembered". Somehow,I don't think that would have gone over well with my parents when I was a child.

I can't believe the Hillary's and Williams' of the world who are prominent public figures and public servants (I use that term very loosely) can create lies which can easily, or with a little research, be proven false. Pino's mention of how Hillary claims she got her name is so stupid. It insults the intelligence of the people. Some people never think to look up the facts (I am one of them most of the time) on such claims, but there are plenty out there who scrutinize and research their lives and their claims, and there are people out there who have personal knowledge and experience with a claim that can easily prove them wrong, which seems to have happened to Williams.

I agree with the one commenter who said the lies go on all sides of the political spectrum. As much I loved and respected Reagan, I didn't believe him either when it came to the Ollie North deal.

Yeah but Reagan never came near the blatant recorded lies, fantasies, and lying about lying, that liberals do. If he did just one antic that liberals commit, seems like almost daily, he'd have been tarred and feathered by the media.

OK, BP told you about Hillary, The next presidential candidate for the Democrat party. She's been a liar from the beginning of her career,

http://patdollard.com/2013/05/flashback-hillary-cl... even fired for it and look where she is today, the prospective leader of the Democrat party, still lying, about Benghazi, BP's story about Hiliary, reminisced ?, no, flat out lied, about her days as first lady and a trip to Tuzla, Bosnia, she made in March 1996. "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

How can you "misspeak" about sniper fire when you are on video walking with your daughter being welcomed by smiling little children, sniper fire? misspoke? Insane, pathological, narcissistic lie is more accurate. Watch this video! Bet you never saw this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHVEDq6RVXc

John Kerry, lied through his ass about Vietnam and his fellow soldiers, former presidential candidate, senator and now Secretary of State?

Debbie Wasserman Shultz, pathetic liar, caught on tape lying about her lying. How this pathological liar became the Chair of The Democratic National Committee is a mystery. How she has actually stayed the Chair of The Democratic National Committee since May of 2011 is an even bigger mystery, unless you realize lying is the primary qualification for advancement in the Democrat party.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVEpKQHs6Ac

President Obama. Liar in Chief who epitomizes the absolute worst of lying throughout a career based solely on lies.

Just Google Lying about lies

"President" (can't get much higher than that) aided by Hilary handling the "Bimbo"eruptions lied his way to the top and even then couldn't resist lying on camera to the entire country, right in our face! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QTPVe6-Pso It only depends on what the meaning of sex is, oh oh, and what the, meaning of is is, oh oh but it has nothing to do with what the meaning of the truth is..

Democrat after democrat clobbered with scandal winds up promoted in their ranks, Charlie Rangle, The Rev.(that's a joke) Al Sharpton, even Monica Lewinsky was going to be granted a job to buy her silence.

These people are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to respect for the truth and yet in their party they are the cream of the crop.. If this doesn't give you pause all I can say is YOU are one of THEM and that is the plain truth...

Had Reagan done anything like what these "leaders"have and continue to do you wouldn't even remember who he was accept maybe he was an actor.

They are like the political version of the Griswold family in Christmas Vacation, their antics are hilarious but the mess that is left behind isn't and always has to be cleaned up by someone else. Their sewer is still on fire.

You're right tsadjatka....I think it's just so rampant and blatant now that to not see the depth of it one has to be in complete denial. Reminds me of the environment of the late Roman Republic.

tsad....LOL! Wait! Don't insult the Griswold's! They are at least lovable....

It's clear that Americans can no longer vote because a vote is almost certainly a vote for a liar. Americans can no longer trust reporters because trusting a reporter almost certainly means trusting a liar. It's getting rough out there!

No longer? From Cronkite through Dan Rather and now Williams what's really scary is it's been that way for a long, long time and the voters who don't vote have been absent for a long, long time. I used to be like that from the day I was old enough to vote, I saw not so much that they were all liars back then, but that the liars got away with lying, be they politicians or media people, they were never really taken to task. This was during the Vietnam war and though I was only 18 I figured what's it matter? For many years I felt that way, Nixon didn't help, until one day I woke up and realized if I didn't vote I wasn't solving any problems, I was part of the problem.

Dear tsadjatko and fp,

Good Morning Hxprof,

We should walk around with lie detectors and plug everybody in before handing them the keys to the kingdom. I'll be at the Inn all day. I hope to see you there.

Dear tsadjatko,

I agree with your position on voting. I will never give up my voice, even if no one hears me.

Just as some Important American leaders have allegedly said about several right wing dictators " He's a son of a bitch , but he's our son of a bitch" . Nobody likes liars from the other side but condones his own . And that is a fact.

Pop....for sure! The Griswolds would be awesome leaders.....depends on where we think we should be led....but they wouldn't LIE to us. Even if they did, they'd make us laugh rather than concern ourselves to death!

Dear tsadjako,

Ok. that kind of lying was fun, but the fools who make decisions for us, are dangerous.

Lasmbservant:

I am a fact checker. Bill Clinton told the story in his autobiography which was published in 2003. Hllary clinton finally came clean in October of 2006. She could never have been named after Sir Edmund Hillary, because he was unknown until he climbed Mt. Everest in 1953. She was born in 1947. This is an easy lie to expose.
