Many Afghans Prefer Taliban Rule

Sad, but true, after the US has spent billions of dollars creating a "democracy". The average person in Afghanistan earns about $1 a day despite a $32 billion dollar investment. Wow, what a rate of return!

Many long for the Taliban to return, a poll shows, because it was safer then than now. When the Taliban ruled, while ruthless and strict, crime was nil. Today, many Afghans feel unsafe despite the fact there are trained police or military forces because of the corruption in them. Many Afghans are stopped as they travel along roads by police checkpoints where money is demanded- like a toll. Bribes and coercion is common by those wearing a uniform and the public does not trust them.

Many poppy farmers who switched to growing cotton instead indicate they plan to grow poppy fields again because they are unable to sell their cotton for anything near what they sold poppy crops for.

Many Afghans see American forces as the cause of the insecurity and want them to leave. The blame the government for being corrupt and they do not trust them. Between the corrupt police forces in many cities and the corrupt government, many want the Taliban to return.

This is a harbinger of the future after America and NATO exits in 2014. There is a very good chance than some provinces will return to Taliban control. As more and more fall to them, the more Kabul becomes surrounded, until it returns also. The future can be seen now.

Odds are, Afghanistan, like Vietnam, will be a total waste of life and money.

Amen! Occupying Afghanistan was a total waste of time and money as was the war in Iraq. Of ,course States with military munitions manufactures like Texas &others many out like bandits.

Halliburton comes to mind as one such company which Former vice president Dick Cheney was personally involved with and The Bush Family of course lives in Texas where oil and military industries are big money makers .

Sad, but true!
