Should ''Freedom of Speech'' include Spewing Hatred toward others?

A Reality Check

Crossing the line with hate speech - Is this really an individual "right" under the constitution?

Let's meet some of the distinctly disturbed on Hub Pages.

The depth of hatred in this world is extremely unnerving.

When one has to remain anonymous in order to voice an opposing view, it is time to rethink how we teach our children about what the bible truly means; and that love and forgiveness always trumps hatred and intolerance.

This article may be quite disturbing to some people. It is in reference to a comment i received on my hub entitled: "Don't ask don't tell - finally repealed. See who voted how".

Those comments will be printed just as this person wrote it.

Obviously there was no expectations of privacy by posting a comment on an "open to all the public" site.

The return comments back are also included.

Reconciling reality with taught beliefs is difficult for many people

The comment:

01/01/11 from: leo gervais 1137 penn ave vandergift, Pa 15690:

"for i am not ashamed of the gospel of christ for the wrath of god is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness likewise also the man leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust for one another men with men committing what is shameful and receiving within themselves the penalty of their error which was due and even as they did not like to retain god in their knowledge god gave them over to debased mind to do those things which are not fitting being filled with all unrighteousness sexual immorality wickedness covetousness maliciousness full of envy murder strife deceit evil mindedness they are wispers back biters haters of god violent proud boasters inventors of evil things disobedient to parents undiscerning untrustworthy unloving unforgiving unmerciful who knowing the righteous judgment of god that those who practice such things are worthy of death not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them romans 1 16-31."

Some christians are truly delusional

The Response:

To leo gervais:

"I have no idea where this rubbish came from, but it is a perfect example of the idiocy of people who have been so completely brainwashed in their childhood, or have deep repressive emotional disturbances.

This kind of hateful rhetoric, used in the name of goodness, is indeed the most unholy of all babblings.

If people really believe this carp they are in deep need of some serious emotional counseling.

To repeat it in earnest is also a sign of deep rooted sexual deviance's within the author.

Sexual repression can be extremely painful and harmful to the psyche if left untreated. Please get some help from a professional, before you harm yourself, or worse, someone else.

My prayers go out to you for your enlightenment, and hope you can find the peace you truly need within your own mind.

PS: if you truly believe the words you wrote above, as being from the god that you worship, i do also suggest you find another one with a little more benevolence than the malevolent god you currently follow.

Good luck and God bless."

Hateful and Nasty People are Everywhere

Disturbing and Unnerving

This is extremely disturbing to me.

Not the comment in itself, but that there are actually those crazies out there living amongst us.

One would expect this kind of idiocy from a T.V. program, but in real life it is truly disconcerting.

I would fear for the safety of the 'friends' or 'relatives' or 'anyone' who is in close proximity to someone with this obvious a mental problem.

I would think it prudent not to have too much personal information about one's private life available to the loonies, on this site, or on any other public site, for that matter.

This is why I chose to use my pen name on this site instead of my real name and whereabouts, as i would hope every other writer is doing the same as well, if they are publishing anything that can be interpreted as "anti-christian", or "anti any other religion". Or pro choice for women, pro equal rights, pro marriage equality, or anything else that religions teach as "sins".

I worked for many years as a psychiatric nurse in an institution for the criminally insane. It is common knowledge that the basic underlying mental breakdown process stems from either religious, or sexual, conflicts within a mind that is incapable of rational assimilation of conflicting teachings that defy logic.

If this person has not already harmed others, it is only a matter of time before he does.

This could very well be your relative, your friend, your acquaintance, or your own child, with all this mental pain and anguish, and you will never know it until it explodes with tragic results.

All my years of being around the mentally unstable in a work setting and seeing it depicted so frequently on screen, has not made it any easier to accept, when it manages to come into my life via the Internet, and through hub pages.com.

WOW--that's really all that comes to mind with this. I will say that it was ballsy of the respondent to leave such information on the net and then spout the bible as a response....when will people realize--not everyone is highly religious and takes the bible as is--and just live life freely. It's okay to have an opinion but don't force it on others......amazing--thanks for verbage on some responses given by other hub members.

Hi. thanks for reading and commenting. This is probably not a very nice thing to say, but i am learing through this site, by way of comments to my articles, that there are truly a lot of "strange" people out there. Everyone has their own opinions and really take offense if yours differs from theirs. The worst? Religious fanatics and Republicans. LOL.

If something is Unbiblical then it is strange. Those that war against the Word of God are crazy. It is unfortunate that Secular Humanists and Moral Relativists have succeeded in portraying Bible believing Christians as crazy. This the result of the complete brainwashing of society by Liberal thinkers and a Liberal mass media that have nearly succeeded in brainwashing society to actually believe it is crazy to believe in the Word of God as the moral compass for humanity.

Frankly with media on the side of fringe Leftists the true fanatics have become are morally reprobate Democrats and homosexuals who have justified immorality on the basis that psychologist and medical boards dominated by homosexual declassified homosexuality as a mental dysfunction. That guideline of upgrading homosexuality to “normal” was a decision that was barely approved. The homosexual doctors and homosexual sympathetic doctors had more votes. This minute decision by human thinking is in no way makes the will of God irrelevant (http://www.traditionalvalues.org/urban/eleven.php)...

Thank you for reading and commenting. Although we are both entitled to our own beliefs, yours does not trump mine in the vast scheme of things. Because i am more logical and realistic i would not try to change your beliefs. Liberal thinkers are the future of humanity and progression. And i truly thank God for that fact. It is sad to find people who are so completely brainwashed by a biblical concept that they are unable to rationalize and reason for themselves. Fortunately enough there are probably more people who view the realities of life as more sacred than the fairy tales of youth, that most religious fanatics never seem to out grow. I do not negate the fact that there may be an entity capable of creating more important things than the limited concepts of man, but i certainly would hope that creator would be at least slightly more benevolent than yours seems to be. The true sins of this world are that the manifestations of the conservative minds are perceived to be more superior than the scientific facts of life. Remember that your religion also imprisoned men for speaking the truth about the world not being flat, and the truth about the sun revolving around the earth, or the earth being the center of the universe. You have no concept of what the 'will of God' is, other than what you were indoctrinated to believe. I won't try to change your limited intellectual concepts when it comes to your beliefs in an antiquated religion, but i do feel sorry for you for not being able to accept the truths of what is reality in lieu of fairytale. Calling names and pointing fingers does not an arguement make. Remember the old saying, that when you point one finger out at another, you have 4 pointing back at yourself. It is a sort of a bullying tactic that most religious zealots use to try to instill fear, in order to gain control. Again, thanks for reading, and commenting. It has been enlightening, to say the least.

Nice, well said. I really appreciate this kind of an argument over the emotional, or I'm going to bully you to believe my way. While i do believe that there is some unifying/ creative force out there I do not believe it is all good/ knowing/ or controlling for that matter. The best example of this is the fruit of knowledge which the Bible says they were not to eat and yet it was in the garden. Why? I must say I love that you have put the arguments against you out there for all to see, makes a very good point in itself. Thank you

I read this once and did not leave a comment the first time. I should have. In light of your most recent article, I will now comment.

The writer of the 'veiled' threat is very bold to leave his name and address. One comment that you received on the article itself, clearly demonstrates the writer's need to impose his will, not God's.

Your latest article is a must read! Guaranteed the email writer featured in that article is an avid 'Christian'! If only that writer really knew what being a Christian means. Don't think it means intolerance, hatred or irrational anger... http://hubpages.com/hub/Emails-forwarded-from-hubp...

It is so strange. The people who seem to hate, quote the bible and God. To me God is love, and acceptance to all who have a good heart. Please be careful. Crazy people do evil things in the name of God.Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you both for reading and commenting. There are way too many of these 'fanatical' bible thumpers in this world for my liking. And it does seem that most of the loud mouthed haters are prone to do so, and justify it, by quoting from their 'holy book'.

I found the funniest thing about his comment was the lack of full stops (periods). I think a poor use of language is a symptom of a mind that values God above all else. Anything not directly related to God takes a back seat, including the English language. In my experience, most of the non-foreigners who are really bad spellers tend to be religious.

Thank you for reading and commenting. It is common knowledge that the less educated a person is, the more religious they tend to be, and conversely; people who are knowledgeable enough to be able to think, and reason, for themselves, tend to discard those old superfluous fairy tale ideas that make up most religions.
