Mr. Obama, Where Will You Sleep Tonight?

I wonder President Obama, where will you rest your head tonight? When you are ready to fall asleep, where will you be? I can promise you it won’t be in something like this. The photo shows a Stryker vehicle in Afghanistan. This is sometimes where my son will sleep, sometimes his roof is the stars and his mattress the sand.

Today Mr. Biden went to Iraq to visit the military. I’m sorry Mr. Obama, that’s not good enough. You are the Commander in Chief. Your predecessor didn’t just send someone in his place. He visited the wounded, he visited the troops where they live and sleep, he invited families of the fallen to the White House continually. Granted, you’ve only been in office for approximately seven months, but a quick Google search reveals when you were RUNNING you visited the troops on a fairly regular basis, yet there were a few snubs and controversial last minute cancellations. Including a visit reportedly to wounded soldiers where you arrived hours late with nary an apology and never asked their names. These were seriously wounded soldiers you left waiting for your arrival. You just shook hands and took off. Verifiable visits since you became President show April of 2009. An unverified visit was in June 2009 (I am unable to follow the link to the actual AP source – the error message says no longer available).

You send men and women to war and they are dying almost daily. And their numbers are increasing. You remain silent about whether or not you will send the extra troops formally requested by General Stanley McChrystal . Are you listening Mr. Obama? August was the deadliest month yet. Are you going to support my son and his 4/23 Infantry Battalion, Charlie Company 3rd Platoon or not? The very worst thing the Taliban needs to observe is you waffling.

My son’s unit already sent a soldier home, wounded due to a suicide bomber. He was one of my son’s best friends. His knee is really jacked up, but we are all thanking God it appears that after a long recovery, he will walk again on it.

You have managed to schedule approximately seven interviews this coming weekend concerning health care. You’ve given countless like-speeches on this exact same topic across the U.S. When polls show the more you talk about healthcare, the more the American people dislike your proposals, are you in such an insulated world of your own that you do not realize your charm isn’t going to work? When will you face the fact there are more important things that the Commander in Chief should be doing? While you continue to stubbornly ram down the collective American throats a plan that has been made crystal clear the vast majority of citizens don’t want, I wonder. How many scheduled wounded troop visits will you make this weekend Mr. President?

What truly frosts my hide is you managed to slip into your busy schedule a nice little party to kick off a Muslim holy month that you personally hosted September 2nd. No Joe Biden stand-in there. But you can’t take five minutes to tell our wounded heroes that their Commander in Chief gives a hoot about whether they live or die or lose a limb or not. Walter Reed is, as I’ve blogged before, right in your back yard.

Before someone puts me on the “fishy” email hit list – my son and his unit and all the soldiers in his unit have no idea I’m writing this. So take me on if your Hench men feel they must, but don’t blame my son or any of the soldiers for what I am writing. They are there, doing their job, the one you asked them to do, as volunteers. The least you can do Mr. Obama is recognize them for it!

My son left his young wife and one month old baby behind to fight this war you inherited Mr. Obama. While my son sleeps in horrific weather conditions, blistering heat during the day, freezing temperatures at night. Sand storms, and soon waist deep snow, eating MRE’s (trust me – you would have no clue how unpalatable those things really are) will you take some time to show them your support? While my son is far away from any Forward Operating Bases (FOB’s) you should have these courageous heroes on your conscience. Every time you lay your head down, you should have this picture in your mind of where the young heroes you sent so far from home sleep. Then you should wake up and act like the Commander in Chief and show them your personal support instead of chasing after socialist agendas that are absolutely worthless.

Dear Cjv123,

Brilliant, passionate and moving Hub. I applaud your son for his service to his country. It's time the President acted like a Commander and make his presence known to the troops. The problem is he is still a community organizer at heart and hasn't a clue about the larger issues.

Wow cjv - this is a wonderful heartfelt message to our so-called "commander in chief". I'm really proud of McChrystal for recently throwing down the gauntlet about "send more troops or get out". Obama's strategy has cost more lives than any "strategy" that came before. Take a look at Army Infantry Mom's hubs on the same subject (you probably have already) I think you'd have a lot to talk about. Great job!
