Nanny And The Free Cell Phones

Who's Your Nanny Now?

More Freebies For The Masses

I was up early this morning and I caught a glimpse of this going on while watching Fox & Friends. I was wondering just what I was going to write about today, got distracted by a phone call, read volumes like I usually do, and then looked back in my inbox and BAM! Here it is and this is more outrageous conduct, and Nanny State dependence mentality, at the US tax payers expense. Since January of 2009, I've watched what is going on, written about it quite often but am at the point that I'm sick and tired of watching my tax dollars go to people who won't get off their butts and work for what the rest of us have to pay for. To a left winger they deserve it. So one of you justify this sort of thing.

I pay good money for my cell phone and service. I don't have to have that gadget to survive so be clear about that point. I also pay good money for my internet and television service, both of which I could live without if I have to. There is no way that I expect to put my hand out and have the federal government drop a free cell phone into my paw and pay the bills for having it. It's happening though and just last year this "welfare" program cost the tax payers of this nation a cool $1.6 billion dollars. Never for a skinny minute should one wonder why the federal deficit is soaring and the dependency rate in this country has risen the last two years under Obama by 23%. It's by design. He wants as many people as he can muster to become dependent on our tax dollars without having to pay a dime You can read about that at the link below if you didn't get the word.

This is the sort of thing that burns my third point of contact and makes me think people have lost their friggin' mind. Not only is this administration handing out free cell phones but we're paying the bills for the use of them to the tune of 12.6 million accounts. To further rub salt in the wound this program began in 2008 and cost us $772 million cool ones for the phones and the bills and since then it has escalated to $1.6 billion. Why? Check out this photo of Mochelle serving a free Thanksgiving dinner and what the guy has in his hand, obviously at our expense.

I'm not laughing myself...

This is a program overseen by the FCC and apparently suffers from poor oversight. Can you just imagine a bureaucratic federal department with poor oversight? According to sources these phones are being had by people who don't qualify for the program. To further acerbate the abuse there is the multiple phone issue, where hundreds of thousands of the federal users have multiple phones. Why? This isn't a necessity of life. This is a luxury that most of us work and pay for.

So where does the money for this program come from? Ever looked closely at the fees section of your cell phone bill? If not, please do. For those of us who pay our own bill we're also paying for the free loader's phones and their phone bills. They get 250 free minutes a month on the US tax payer. On your cell bill there is something called the "Universal Service Fund" fee. Sounds fancy doesn't it? It isn't. It is a welfare fund attached to the US consumer of cell phone services. What a sham.

What's even more amazing is that the program is actually geared to reward current users for having more users sign on the dotted line. How so? For every free loader they get to sign up for the program their phone bill for the next month gets 100 free additional minutes added to it. How nice. Instead of a program that should be designed to get people off the dole, they're encouraging more people to go on the dole. Again that's at whose expense? First guess won't count. So lets move on to more outrageous behavior by the federal government bureaucracy called the FCC..

How Many Nanny's Do You Want To Control Your Life?

SafeLink is the biggest provider under a program called the Lifeline provider program. And guess what? If you get food stamps, which the federal government has been spending advertising dollars on and pushing, you can get a free cell phone. How neat is that? The food stamp rolls are around 48 to 49 million Americans right now. Do the math. Get the picture? Yes, the phones have cameras. How many free phones with the bills attached to them are we going to have to pay for? So under the SafeLink program you get 100 free minutes for each referral and if they also qualify for the Lifeline program you get 30 more additional free minutes.

Good grief! Where do I sign up? Is it going to be the same place I can get this new spiffy government mortgage without having to prove much of anything except that I want it? How many goodies will Obama continue to pull out of our cookie jar between now and November?

I'm just asking...

As Always,

The Frog Prince

We working tax payers are now the new US. We pay and pay and pay. The gangs can go down town sign up for their food stamps, health cards, and phones because they have NO real job. We pay in our electric bills, gas bills into a fund to keep them warm and cosy while they sell their drugs on the streets; live in their warm homes, drive their fancy cars with those low profile tires as they laugh and tell their friends "I get all this free" from Obamie. God help us clean house in DC soon.

Excellent article. Voted up but now I need my blood pressure taking as it is Very High at the moment.

LOL I saw that while I started to read this hub Frog.

Every time I get my phone bill, gas bill, and electric bill there are all these other fee's attached that I have to pay for. I know darn good and well this extra goes to support the low lives that will not work. It makes me mad and makes me sick.

Great writing. Thanks and voted up.

Hey Frog -- I understand this program was initiated on behalf of low-income seniors, living alone as a safety measure, ie. getting help if one falls, etc. Like most government programs it quickly went awry and is accelerating rapidly. I have one elderly neighbor who has Safelink but have never discussed the terms, etc. so have no info on that. Good Hub and on target. Best/Sis

Another part of the grand socialist/marxist plan. Make them dependent on government freebies at the expense of working people paying taxes, then you'll have their vote for a lifetime.

I can only imagine what my trip to the Central Entitlement Office would be like.

I ask "Can I get a free Cell Phone?"

Answer "No, you work for a living."

I ask "Can I get some food stamps?"

Answer "No, you work for a living."

I ask "Can I get free medical care?"

Answer "No, You work for a living."

I start to ask yet another question and they cut me off with a wave of the hand and say "Go quit that damn job and all of this can be yours at no cost to you, until then quit bothering us."

Okay, I was in a bad mood before but now I am livid! This is just like the Food Stamp program. The government pays groups loads of money to get other people to sign up for food stamps. If Obama can just get people to forget about their individual pride , he'll have the society he is craving...weak and dependent for life. Up useful, interesting and awesome and definitely worth sharing.

Good grief. Paying people a bounty to refer more people to collect a bounty. It's like an MLM scheme. I guess in some cases a phone might really be a necessity. But a camera? What's next, mobile internet browsing? Free texting? Mobile email? Credits for mobile application downloads? Built-in MP3 players with 20 free song downloads a month? Why not throw in a $300 Sennheiser headset system too?

I notice SafeLink is owned by América Móvil, which in turn is owned by Carlos Slim, the richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of over $54 billion USD. Unless SafeLink were a major maker, it wouldn't be worth Slim's time, as it would immaterial to his overall profits. Which all makes we wonder: (1) how much is Uncle Sam (you and me) paying for this service, and (2) is anyone in Paradise-On-Potomac getting a "marketing fee" (kickback is such a loaded word) for awarding the contract to SafeLink? I'd call Slim myself and ask, but I don't get free minutes to Mexico.

Well! If this doesn't just take the cake. I pay a crazy amount for this infernal device that I personally can't stand but have to have for work. I don't use anywhere near 250 minutes a month and now I find out I'm paying for the same for others without even being asked. How's that for stealing!

I see the wizard made an appearance. I don't see any fear here and I for one hate having my money taken without my permission! It's not like I have a ton of it. Why should someone automatically get a cell phone? Was it in the Constitution somewhere and I just missed it? Do you realize, or even care, that if everyone is continually bled dry there will be nothing left to bleed out soon and then all the free phones will be cut off anyway? This has nothing to do with hate, fear, or any other feeling. It has to do with mathematical truths, and fact. It has to do with what is right. I'm all for helping the poor but not through an enabling process that takes away motivation and keeps the downtrodden a second class mass of slaves to the government. Wake up! Do the math. An overabundance of entitlement programs does not fix the underlying problems it only masks them and furthers alienation and apathy. This type of spending can only end in everyone being broke. When everyone is broke, what then? That was rhetorical. Then, we all become slaves or become dead. Again, wake up!

Yeah right, Fox & Friends are so very tolerant of opposing views and would never stoop to stir up right-wing resentment and hatred.

It's that bad old liberal Yankee Noah Webster who can't deal in facts when he defines the term of your behaviors . . .

bigotry noun

bigoted attitudes; intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself : the report reveals racism and right-wing bigotry. See note at bias.

ORIGIN late 17th cent.: from bigot , reinforced by French bigoterie.

bias noun

1 prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair : there was evidence of bias against foreign applicants - the bias toward younger people in recruitment in sing. a systematic bias in favor of the powerful.

poetvix, you always make me laugh but this probably won't make you laugh----there are three different companies that have been passing out these phones in Oklahoma for almost a year and here they get 1000 minutes per month free and 1000 texts for free and the phones are camera and video phones for free and for $5.00 per month they get some amount of internet and for the past 6 months these same companies are offering a free landline as well and this bill has computors coming out next for free---from the research I have done this program is being serviced by different companies in every state---save your money so you can buy the non-working class the latest and greatest technology to go along with the other massive welfare programs we already pay for---

Stu 4 years ago

Hi Frog,

I guess my point is that Slim runs a number of businesses. It's impossible to monitor an enormous grab-bag of small companies. People in Slim's position (e.g., Warren Buffett) have to limit themselves to a few dozen really major money makers, or their time gets spread too thin keep track of what their managers are accomplishing, and lose the ability to step in and advise when problems come up. The implication is that SafeLink is likely a major operation with significant net cash flow. And the US government is famous for overpaying for everything. This is why I posed the question: is Slim getting a premium price on the "free minutes," and was anyone in DC offered kickbacks in exchange for premium pricing? I don't know the answer. But it does make me wonder. Slim is already under investigation in Mexico for antitrust issues related to his various communications businesses. If he does truly have monopolies, it would fit the general pattern that he is charging his customers high rates (most monopolies are price gougers). Similarly, if the SafeLink business is the sole provider of "free minutes" (and I don't know that it is), there is the possibility that the US government is overpaying for the service.

poetvix---google Agenda 21---it will all make perfect sense once you can wrap your brain around a 200 year old agenda that all our politicians are part of and you will see in learning about this agenda that most of America is just too scared to believe that this is real, but a better tomorrow is and has always been the plan for America, but it does not include you and I----the plan is to expunge you and I and to get rid of us so the elites and arisocrats of the world can inhabit our country into the future---what I have seen and experienced for four decades in rooms with dems and repubs is that they are all on track for one world order and for the elimination of the middle class and lower class citizens of America and they are winning!!!!!!!

Until or unless we wake up and take them on where they live, we are doomed literally FEMA has built our concentration camps and the government has purchased and stock piled our future coffins---pictures don't lie and there are tons of them---every man woman and child in America should be aware of what they are doing and should be making them stop it, but so many ppl in our country refuse to "get it" and for me it is 40 years of frutstration living in an ostrich nation and life is sooo frustrating for me from that stand point, so this is Jesse Ventura and I and a handful of others are screaming at the top of our voices about the largest threat to our world and the agenda behind it---no conspiracy in these theories, just facts--Jesse just released a book with 65 documents that our government doesn't want you to see and they are documents from every dept of this administration and all those before this one ordering "the thinning of the herd" and the promotion of "one world order"---we can all talk till we are blue in the face about dems and repubs and obama and whoever, but until we read, understand and ACCEPT the EVIL forces that truly are at work in our government we cannot stop them---staying off this subject is exactly what enables them to push ahead---

You must understand the difference in thinking when it come to the Wizard and most of us. When our car gets stuck in a snow drift, most of us grumble a little, then get the shovel out of the trunk and dig our way out. The Wizard and his friends use their government provided cell phones to call the free government tow truck to get them out. Then he goes after the "bigots" and the so called "Wealthy" for not removing this snow drift before he got stuck. The world is now full of the Wizard and his offspring, and they are growing in numbers. Never a solution is offered by him, just name calling and wanting more free stuff.

I just heard of the proposal to pay students to attend high school as an incentive for going to classes. I want to help those in need and I do through various organiazations and my church but the government forces us to contribute to programs without consent. Great hub topic and voted up!
