Natural disaters in 2010
We all hoped and believed that 2010 would be promising since it is the beginning of a new decade but barely 3 months into the year, there is been loads of natural disasters going on around the whole world.
The quake that struck on January 12, 2010, reduced much of the capital, Port-au-Prince, to rubble. The disaster cost Haiti over $8 billion and $14 billion, based on a death toll from 300,000 to 316,000. An estimated 634,000 people presently live in the displacement camps, according to the international organization for migration. Though their were numerous donations from various Individuals, Non governmental organisations and various countries but construction involving better buildings and roads has barely begun. There is even outbreak of diseases and violence which has overtaken the citizens of the countries.
On the 21st of February, there were terrible mudslides that killed number of people in Portugal and washed away number of properties. On the 7th of March, the Kenyans found their way on tree top, fleeing from the flood that washed down the area which also took a number of lives and properties with it. 26th of February was the drastic Chile earthquake.
Talking about earthquake, an earthquake is a sudden tremor or movement of the earth crusts. There are mainly three causes of earthquake, the natural occurring earthquake, earthquake that could be linked to explosive volcanic eruptions and thirdly earthquake could be triggered by tectonic activity which are associated with plate margins and fault. The Haiti earthquake was the natural occurring earthquake that could be caused as a result of the country location in the western hemisphere.
How can all this disasters be prevented in the future? How can people lives be saved from all these disasters?
