No Name: Human Trafficking Victim

Her name used to define her,

Now it’s something different every day.

An emotionless face hidden in the crowd,

Now it’s only men who look her way.

She used to have many dreams

Like ones of singing onstage,

And hearing leagues of adoring fans

Screaming and shouting her name.

But now that name has faded

Along with her parent’s faces

Now she is just a piece of meat,

Bartered and traded from place to place.

She puts on heels and glitter

Dances for men who don’t care,

They just want to feed their urges,

They don’t try to contain their stares.

They prey on her with hungry eyes

There's no patience or gentle whispers

Lovemaking is nothing she knows,

Prince charming never will kiss her.

They don’t know the truth

That this was not what she wanted,

That she just wishes she would die,

Because her soul now feels haunted.

She doesn’t understand how many people

Just don’t seem to think this is wrong

Her teenage innocence has been reduced

To a string of men she calls John.

She wants to leave but she is afraid,

Those fading faces she wants to protect

She doesn’t remember why she ever left

But running away is her biggest regret.

He found her one day, alone and hungry,

Promised her riches and his own twisted love,

But instead she hands him her money,

And wonders if there is a God up above.

She closes her eyes and goes somewhere else

When they lay their hands upon her,

She must pretend to enjoy their touch

So she fills herself with hard liquor.

She knows if she resists or fails to please,

Then she will have to pay the price,

A very unfortunate mistake

That she has made once or twice.

She wishes he would just kill her

So she could sleep in peace,

Without knowing she must wake to misery

There are no more dreams within her reach.

Her name used to define her,

Now it’s something different every day.

An emotionless face hidden in the crowd,

Now it’s only men who look her way.

Biz, this topic is absolutely disgusting and abominal but you brought the message forth eloquently.

I agree it is disgusting and horrendous, but it needs to have a spotlight on it and revealed for what it is. Thank you for reading...

Powerful message Elizabeth. I've written three hubs about human trafficking. I don't think it is the lack of meaningful punishment that is the problem; it's the lack of attention to the problem. Portland, Oregon, 1st or 2nd in the nation in this hideous category, has one full-time detective who works these cases. One! Is it any wonder the problem is multiplying?

Wow that is crazy. How could one person be taken seriously? It is sad when I hear about some high level customers, also, or how it seems to just be overlooked or lacks complete compassion. I can't even think about children being in these situations. It makes me sick. I'll have to look at your hubs, Bill. Thank you for stopping by, also. You're comments are always an honor!

This is a terrible crime that goes on all over the world. That it happens in the US is to our deep shame. Billybuc wrote a hub (article) about this crime. A link of them would be great!

xstatic, it is such a terrible crime. I can't believe how rampant it actually is in the US. I saw Bill mentioned he had some Hubs about it, and links to them would be great, I'll check with him and see if he woulnd't mind that... Thank your for reading...

Thank you Dad. And unfortunately, no we have not... I was looking up statistics, different maps of the world, and the United States is one of the top importers of human trafficking victims in the world. And 27% of them are used for domestic servitude! Simply outrageous! Scary world to have children in...

Your poem makes me really sad and thoughtful but it is a real important topic. It's important to make people think of bad things that happen in the world and trafficking is definitely a terrible crime. A very great and important hub!

Thank you janetwrites, for reading and commenting... It is a very terrible crime, no one should be forced to do anything they don't to do for the benefit of someone else... I dream of a day these things don't exist... Thank you again.

Oh bizzarett how awful this is ;I am not surprised as i knew of it but whenever I read another article stating just how bad it is it simply reinforces it all. How terrible is this part of the world. These vile creatures who use these people like this just don't deserve to live. Thank you so mcuh for sharing;because it needs to be told over and over again. We must live in hope that one day things will; change..........................

Eiddwen, It is indeed a very tragic and serious problem, and unfortunately not limited to one part of the world... as it shows on the map with different shades of green, in some countries, it is not even illegal... Such a sad thing, and I agree, people that can be so cruel should have no right to live... Thank you for reading, Eiddwen...

Well I love when you write 'narrative' poetry because it tells a story in itself - and as you know , Epi is quite a storyteller himself, lol.

In fact this is a subject I have not tackled 'yet' ..... but it certainly can't get any better than this - and I love how you have presented your story with some additional context.

You have a family of world class writers .....and I am presently on the page of one of them right now.

Sending you warm wishes from lake erie time canada 12:17pm

As always, I think you greatly for stopping by and reading. Your comments always boost my ego and leave me smiling, Epi! And thank you for your kind compliments, it's hard not to love writing with a father like mine!

This is a tough subject to tackle, but something I think is a huge issue. I dream of a day when people can live respectfully and free on this planet... Maybe its Pie in the Sky hopes.. but as long as I live, I will dream!

Sending warm wishes back over the border from Maine, where the sun is actually shining!

Hi Bizarretti81 Poetic Fighter:

A powerful poem sadly based in fact, a damning indictment of humanity and the dark souls that make it happen and those that let it happen. A relationship of shame by any other name by shallow men, with shallow needs and pitiful ethics. Freedom from oppression is a noble quest for all women and men so unfairly treated…..why is their no UN resolution and funding to make this a genuine quest. A message such as this is a start, so very well presented. A dream of freedom, a quest for right should make us all rise up and demand our basic human rights for all, personal freedom and equality. And we worry about global warming when confronted with global slavery…where’s the justice!???

I have a dream a world

Where all men and women are equal

Solid soul mates

Personal, passionate and caring

Aussye thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts. I share the same thoughts and dreams. I am saddened by the world I am raising children in. I can only hope that more people open their eyes and realize the bad things that are happening right under our noses and are allowed to continue

Thanks for writing this. Sadly, plenty of human trafficking goes on WITHIN the US, mostly of minors. Few people realize this or want to think about it when they do know it. In so many cities prostitution is tied up with local political corruption, so customers and pimps rarely get prosecuted. Recently I read an article about an infamous madam from the city where I grew up and a cop who was interviewed about her (she's dead now, the house torn down a couple decades ago) actually said they hated to take her in when on occasion they had to, because everyone liked her so much and at least she kept the girls off the streets. I mean, this is in 2013 that that cop said that. So what hope is there for those girls? Mostly they just have to try and survive and hope they aren't crazy/addicted/ sick by the time they aren't money worthy.

I could go on and on. Anyhoo, thanks.

CR Rookwood, it really is a disgusting, sad thing that I can't believe is so supported by some people. I have children, and hate thinking of these dark parts of the world that they will grow up in. I guess all I can do is try to keep hope that the good people will inherit the Earth someday... Thank you for reading and commenting, I always love to find other empathetic souls.
