Obama's 'You Didn't Build That' Was Off Teleprompter

Source

July 27, 2012

I really hate to break it to Chris Matthews, especially regarding his latest puzzling ‘bromantic’ remark about Mr. Obama being “perfect” in every way, but perfect isn’t exactly how most of us describe the President.

Despite what Chis Matthews might actually believe, many of us dislike Mr. Obama not because we’re racists, it’s just…well…he stinks at his job.

Maybe Chris is off his meds, because those of us who live on planet earth, with a clear grip on reality know that this President isn’t even close to perfect.

Take Mr. Obama’s latest blunder for example.

Some really, really smart person on Mr. Obama’s staff decided to show the President on the campaign trail as being spontaneous and “in touch” with the peeps. He was “in touch” alright. He was in touch with his inner Zen – the “greater truth” of who Obama really is and that’s the fact that he’s a dyed-in-the-wool socialist. A true believer in government control of every single aspect of your life. It startles me when I hear a so-called “liberated” woman rant about the government staying out of her “private parts” (I’m cleaning up the language here). They don’t get it. The government is very much in there already – the additional problem is, this administration is screwing us all.

As it turns out, Mr. Obama must have been all on board with this spontaneous circus act, and thus we now have the classic, “You didn’t build that” speech.

To refresh our memories, he was speaking about people who built businesses. He was referring to what he (apparently) honestly believes is the inability for Americans to do anything unless the big daddy government holds our hand and helps. And come to find out, he gave us this big “reveal off the teleprompter! Imagine that! Who knew?

Playing devil’s advocate, we’ll examine his point about being unable to get to that business-you-didn’t-build, because you needed to drive on roads built and maintained by—well the government.

Let’s apply your logic Mr. Obama by taking a trip on the Logic Train. As we chug, chug, chugga along, going down the logic track, what we come up with is something like this.

If it is that the government, and not personal drive, perseverance, personal sweat equity and personal risk (among other individual attributes) is what builds businesses, why isn’t everyone who travels those same government built roads (for example) president of their own business?

If it’s that simple, if it really does take a village and that’s your final answer, then there should be little to no unemployed and everyone should be king of their own successful business! Choo choo!

Oops, I’m sorry, the train is derailed Mr. Obama. That logic track of yours is broken!

Let us all be reminded of what Mr. Obama really believes. He believes you, the American voter, are…well in a word, estupido. For those of you who want this in English, press one…

We’ll quote Mr. Obama:

If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own…I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

WTF? You remember that campaign slogan of Mr. Obama’s “Winning The Future” don’t you? I ask you, is this “Winning The Future” for America? Telling us we can’t make it as a country without “smart” government intervention in businesses across our fruited plain? Is he truly that clueless that he honestly believes it’s the government that this country was built on and not the entrepreneur and small businessperson who creates and has created jobs in America?

He says more very interesting things:

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen…The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

Dang, and all along I thought Al Gore invented the internet…

While talking to the National Urban League, Mr. Obama went off script again and began using an affected speech pattern he jumps into when he’s around African Americans. He thinks we believe he actually talks like this normally. He doesn’t.

You're competing against young people in Beijing and Bangalore…You know, they're not hangin' out. They're not gettin' over. They're not playin' video games. They're not watching 'Real Housewives.'

That wasn't in my prepared remarks…

Gee, ya think? I doubt even your brilliant speech writing crew would put “gettin’” and “playin’” on the teleprompter were your remarks not off the cuff. I’ve seen countless interviews and speeches where you don’t sound like you’re “in the hood” at all Mr. Obama. Actually, most of the time, you speak formal English like the alleged Harvard graduate you claim to be.

He’s not one of you, he’s not one of “us.” He’s an illusion created by fat-cat socialist/liberal politicians and his time in the White House never should have happened in the first place. This has nothing to do with his race. It has to do with the fact he is completely and utterly unqualified for the job. The proof is how he has tried to run this country since taking office. The only way he’s run things is right into the ground.

Are we really better off than we were when he took office in 2008? He’s proven he’s unskilled, incapable and unable to work hard at leading this country back to prosperity. What was purported to be his number one reason for wanting to become President while he was stumping for the job in the first place.

Put Mr. Obama to a simple test. What is the most important issue facing this nation?

Nope, not global warming. It’s joblessness and unemployment, and how our nation’s economy is stagnating under a huge Obama/Democrat-built deficit.

Yet explain to me, if Mr. Obama is so hard at work on this issue, why hasn’t he met with his own, Obama-created, bi-partisan Job’s Council since January?

That revelation alone should be the reason you vote this man out of office November 2012, never mind his numerous revelatory bloopers.

Prove Mr. Obama wrong, prove it to yourself and the future of our country that you’re not as stupid as team Obama believes you are. Vote smart November 2012, vote NO for a second term for Barrack Hussein Obama.

Chris is a rube. Both parties stink. All Presidents use teleprompters, and point that out with Obama is just stupid.

Good Hub Carol. Now we know what Obama wanted to transform the USA into. The founders gave us a government of the people, by the people, and for the people but Obama wants a people of the government, by the government, and for the government. That's fundamental transformation.

Thanks for keeping this latest stupidity front and center, Carol.

Inquiring minds want to know: just who the heck was he talking to, since they should have been, like, you know, working maybe? Oh, I CRACK MYSELF UP.

Obama is betting on the fact that there are more "have nots" than "haves" going to the polls. He is working every angle to stimulate that base while alienating the one that drive the economic wheels of the country. We are stagnate in terms of the economy and jobs for one singular reason now....Barack Hussein Obama, not Bush, not Congress (you cant' blame something that does not work at all!), and not the American people. The day the man took office, the future of this country in terms of expectations and capability was put on hold and it will remain on hold until he leaves that office. The business community in America has no trust in the man and no means by which to plan for growth and expansion while living under the shadow of growing government regulations, the ever-increasing reach of the EPA, the growing national debt and deficit, the potential for increased taxation, and the unknown costs associated with ObamaCare. The only alternative is to hunker down and hope that your business can outlast the storm. That was a reasonable plan for the first term but most folks will admit that they cannot stand another four years of that without some relief of the weight of a growing big government on their backs. Unfortunately there are far too many out there today with their hand out asking "what's wrong with free heathcare?" Duh....maybe what's wrong with it is the fact that it, like everything else is not free, it comes out of the hides of hard-working taxpaying Americans which Obama refers to often but disdains because they see right through his transparent facade and know that there has never been a president in that high office so lacking in leadership skills, the ability to unify, and move toward the true destiny of America. This man is nothing short of a waterboy for George Soros who is surrounded by accidental socialist, Marxist, and communists...what a coincidence. Yet, he is representative symbol of the boiling anger in the young black man who cannot shut up long enough to listen and learn something about his own potential and his own responsibility to build on that potential. No, this president had rather see that man living on a welfare check and food stamps from the government than learning to think and reason for himself. Because if he does, he becomes a threat to everything that Obama represents and that is built on a large government centered on the mindless masses. Good write, Carol! WB

OK. I've been thinking about this and I haven't heard anyone say this yet. Does anyone view this as a swat against Romney? Obama's tone so reminds me of a child on the playground: YOU THINK YOU'RE SO SMART? WELL, YOU'RE NOT. YOU THINK YOU DID THIS BY YOURSELF? WELL, YOU DIDN'T. You can just hear the "SO THERE" as if just saying something makes it true. We all remember exactly how playground bullies won arguments without a shred of evidence, simply by tone and loudness, not substance. Never substance. Did anyone also notice that Obama realizes midstream he needs to tack to the center a little, so he mentions this "Great American system of ours" and to that line, there is very little applause and "yeses". The yeses only come, evidently, if you are beating up someone too big for his britches. So now we know who is audience was: the Victim Class.

Taxshelter - and this is why we need to know our history. All Presidents have at special times used teleprompter. But the way Obama uses them is unprecedented. I'm pretty sure that photo of Obama in a grade school with little kids around his feet and teleprompter is first.

And the point of the Hub wasn't that he went off the teleprompter. It was how stupid he sounded when he did. That's the point and you missed it entirely.

I do think Obama was trying to call-out Romney on this one - I hadn't thought of that. You're such a smarty pants!

Quibble: The first president to use a teleprompter was Lyndon Johnson. Prior to that presidents read their speeches from typed (or hand-written if you go back far enough) copies. The teleprompter exists because of TV and how it looked bad if the speaker constantly looked down, but looked good if the speaker always eyes the camera. It's a cosmetics kind of thing. Since Johnson, everybody did it.

Now then, if these remarks were indeed not on the 'prompter, then we got a glimpse of what Obama actually thinks and not what his speech writer thinks and that is a fascinating thought.

cjv123 profile image

cjv123 4 years ago from Michigan Author

According to the article I referenced in my Hub - his speech writers didn't write what he said - his remarks were made off-the-cuff. And I'm not sure what the quibble was about Davesworld - I don't believe I wrote he was the first President to use one - just the first President who couldn't speak intelligently without one. Unless I'm missing something - which is quite possible. I did write this on the fly today. Please let me know if I've erred in writing or implying that Mr. Obama was the first to use the teleprompter.

He learned all of this in Kenya at his mother's knee. His socialist roots are sprouting all over the place and the real Obama is coming through loud and clear. How there is anyone left in this nation who doesn't see how bad he is for us is beyond my understanding. Voted up awesome, interesting and useful.

Carol, it was his tone. It seemed so personal and snarky. Not presidential, but whenever O speaks to the Victim Class (how I shall henceforth refer to the Gimmies and I Deserves) he never is. I can barely listen to the man (and I use that term so loosely) because of his arrogance, stridency, and socialist nonsense. . .oh my. An acronym = ass. Huh. I have a saying: You can only level the playing field ONCE, something O doesn't seem to get. I call it the Step ONE plan. I've always wondered what the hell step two is. Anyone?

Carol, listening to him (and I do because the media runs his clips every day) is like torture. Nails on a chalkboard. I just want to hatchet the radio. If I weren't unemployed, I'd be buying Ayn Rand Tshirts.

To understand Obama is to know about him. The mainstream media and press have failed to inform the public.

1. The President's State of the Union speech on 2/24/09 was a love affair with Congress when the super majority Democrat Congress passed the stimulus bill.President Barack Obama – [ F ] Address to Joint Session of Congress

What I still don't understand Jon is how young people and the left can still "hate" Mr. Bush so much for being "stupid" and "being the worst President" for imagined reasons. YET - the very reasons they used to list about Bush - infringing on our rights, he's an idiot, abuse of power REALLY are happening with Obama. AND Obama is HONESTLY not smart at all! At least Bush knows how many states there are in the U.S. and knew how to pronounce the word "corps" etc. Too many to list here - that's for certain. I don't understand how lovers of Obama can't SEE THAT!

What helped out Obama last time in 2008 was that the black people and the young turned out in big numbers this time. This time a lot of them will stay at home. That's the killer. The stay at home guy is the guy who votes on enthusiasm;there's just not that much to be excited about Obama. We don't know whether his healthcare reform will work or not but we do know the economy is still lousy.

cjv123 profile image

What I also hope Nick is those who voted for him, other than what you mentioned - were lied to. He swore he's NEVER RAISE TAXES (Read my lips no new taxes) on ANYONE with an income of less than $250,000. NOW - WITH his precious Obamacare - if you don't BUY insurance of SOME kind you will be TAXED for it - end of story period. He lied to the American people - his interview with George S. is just one example where he lied through his teeth. We know this because HIS LAWYERS argued before the Supreme court - IT'S A TAX and THEY WON.

That ALONE should get him booted out of office, never mind Obamacare will cost Trillions more than they promised, never mind Obamacare was supposed to give "health care to everyone" and STILL leaves out over 30,000. The list of broken promises and downright LIES goes on and on and on. Thanks for your input I pray you are right!

With regard to those who vote out of enthusiasm staying home this time, I am afraid that may affect both sides of the aisle thus it neutralizes itself in the overall effect on the outcome of the election. There are many conservatives who are not thrilled with Romney who place that priority higher than getting Obama out of office...which should be the number one goal....even if we have to elect a tree to serve the next four years (somebody see if Al Gore is available). One only has to remember the days of Dan Quayle to remember how unmerciful the media can be when the man involved moves to the right side of the aisle. These are the moments that make Chris Matthews hindlegs tingle with anticipation. The sad truth is that we have a significant portion of the population and the media who are already sold on many aspects of socialism yet do not recognize it as such. That is very dangerous ground and it goes to show you that education cannot be depended on to hold back such forces in a free republic. Ironically, these will also be the people who are the most shocked by their loss of freedoms and the most outraged and vocal in their objections....demanding (I have to stop and laugh here) that the wonderful federal government immediately do something about the situation. Finally...the lights come on...far too late I might add. WB

I have grappled with this Wayne for a long time - I was going to stay home. I struggle with voting for a Mormon or voting for the devil. Ultimately - in God's eyes - they're both the same. Now hear me out - Mormonism isn't just another whacky Christian faith. It's a Christian cult and once Romney becomes president, this legitimizes the cult of Mormonism and lures more unsuspecting innocent people into its darkness. The ONE thing I will say about Obama - he brings Christians and conservatives together to fight him. With Romney - there's complacency as if he's A-Okay and the cult he's in is A-Okay (it's not a "good" cult - it's a terrible misogynist organization that is horrible to women and children) and people will let their guard down.

There's a guy right here on Hub pages - and trust me he's not the only one - who relentlessly writes about Mormonism, its teachings and is constantly trying to recruit innocent people into this organization. This happens all over the net. It's going to amp up when Romney takes the most powerful office in the world (if he can pull it off and as of this writing it looks like he will).

Now having said that - it's a personal decision. My original thoughts were there is no way in good conscience I can stand before God having voted for the man.

Lately though - I'm personally able to feel that I can do this as I believe God has showed me He can use EVEN A DONKEY in the Bible - to achieve His purposes. Indeed - God IS bigger than the cult of Mormonism.

So while I absolutely know what you are saying Wayne - please also know that for many of us who don't just go to church on Sundays and call ourselves Christian - but who try to live our faith daily - this has been a huge struggle.

When all is said and done, and I stand before the Lord - he's not going to ask me "Did you vote Republican?" He's going to ask me - "When it came time Carol, did you do what I asked you to do?" I have to be able to answer that question in good conscience. Thus far - I'm going to vote Romney. But please understand this goes beyond voting Republican or voting out Obama. It has to do with what Christians will do according to their God-given conscience.

Wayne Brown profile image

I hear what you are saying and appreciate the conflict which you face. I have taken the approach as such..."when faced with only two evils as your choices, take the less of the two for the time being". For me, Obama is by far the greater evil and its is an evil deadset on destroying all the fabric of this country. Once that is gone, Carol...the practice of religion may no longer be a freedom that you enjoy as you do today. WB

cjv123 profile image

cjv123 4 years ago from Michigan Author

Wayne - your motto is one reason actually - I am going to vote in November for Romney and the other reason is also as you stated. If Obama gets another four years --there is no telling what he'll do to STAY in power - I have absolutely no illusions that he'd leave even after four more years as a matter-of-fact. I think he'll make sure he becomes King. And as you said at that point, there may be ZERO tolerance for ANY religion save Islam- so the lessor of two evils in this case is better. I do see that. It's taken me a long time to get here though. But now I'm there. Not adoring the choice I'm forced to make - but remembering that Biblical story where the Lord used a donkey to talk to Balaam because the donkey could see the angel with the drawn sword, but Balaam could not. God used the donkey to accomplish His greater plan.

I pray that God can use Romney to accomplish His greater plan and that Romney can be the person to lead this country back onto the right track towards prosperity and liberty once again.

Really liked this discussion Wayne. Thanks for adding so much to the topic.

In the discussion we are missing an important factor to be considered in the coming election. One must note that Congress makes legislation which afterward the President signs into law.

The Democrats have controlled 2/3s of the government since Jan. 2007. The country needs to reverse the trend, having a President who works with Congress will turn the economy around quickly.

THIS ELECTION will determine the direction of the country for the future.
