Passion for evangelism

Passion for Evangelism

Monday, April 12, 2010

Passion has been described by the American Heritage Dictionary as;

             I.      Zealous preaching and dissemination of the gospel, as through missionary work.

II.      Militant zeal for a cause.

The question is; has the Church Lost the Passion for Evangelism?

Surely the Lord God has not lost his passion because from the fall of Adam, it was the intention of God that “Adam” should return to the place from which he was deposed.

It was his aim to regenerate man, not of the flesh but of the Spirit. God is a Spirit and all them that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Therefore the mighty God would make available to man the spiritual authority and power, which is God residing in man, to repossess and have rulership over the earth so that God’s will would be established on earth as it is in heaven.

And so God, in his passion for the evangelistic outreach, released this proto-evangelistic message and prophetically declared in Genesis 3:15,

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

God warned the serpent (nachash) of the open conflict that would bruise his head.

Notice that God said seed of the woman and not the seed of Adam for the seed of Adam would have no spiritual power to prevail until the seed of the woman came, which is Christ Jesus, which was conceived by the Holy Ghost and not man.

That is the way God had chosen to engage the enemy thereby destroying Satan’s power and lordship over mankind; bruising his head, turning man from the power of Satan unto God; Acts 26:18.

At Calvary, the place of the skull, Jesus died to put away sin: the serpent was defeated at the cross and now Jesus has become Lord, master, conquering Lion of the tribe of Judah and his reign is eternal.

As of that time it has been an open conflict between the seed of the serpent and those which are in Christ, who have now been given authority and power by the blood of Jesus which justifies and redeems. But the serpent has not relented from his “old game” which comes in the form of temptations, afflictions and persecutions but God always gives us a way out, 1Cor. 10:13,

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

In 2Peter 2:9, Peter says that “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the Day of Judgment to be punished”.

In  Numbers 21:8, while the children of Israel were being led by Moses up into the Promised Land, the people became discouraged because they were unsatisfied with the diet God had chosen for them and so they spake against God and Moses.

The Lord was angered and sent poisonous serpents among them but Moses prayed for the people and God provided a way out.

God had the people to look at the symbol of defeat of sin and the resultant victory in the Christ that was to come.

That was another evangelistic message in which God was declaring, “If you only believe that I am able to get you to the Promised Land then I the Lord will do it!

Today just as in the day of Moses, we have to remember that the lordship of sin has been destroyed from our lives and we have no more need to lift up the serpent but to lift up Christ who is the author and the finisher of our faith.

Moses raised the serpent as a declaration and to show them that they had victory over what had been destruction to their lives. God is saying, look at your fears and command them to step down in the name of Jesus.

The medical sign of a serpent on a pole is the sign that medicine has taken victory over diseases. Every time you enter a doctor’s office and see that sign, faith should be stirred up in your members to declare that,

“I am healed, for even the doctor is in agreement with me without even having a chance to look at me!

But those that have the life of Christ in operation in their members must never allow the serpent place so that you are in danger of becoming   spiritually immobile but that the Lord God is sought passionately.

That means;

Ø     to align himself with God/ spiritual alignment; Abraham aligned with God so he could receive the promise

Ø     to have a supernatural hunger; seeking for God to do the impossible, Matt.6:33

Ø     to be obedient to the word of God; Joshua 1:8

Ø     to be one given to humility; the humility of Moses; Numbers 12:3

Ø     to have the faith of God; Numbers 12:7, the faithfulness of Moses

But this “open conflict” between the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman began as God made the declaration to the serpent that “dust shall thou eat all the days of thy life”.

In other words the serpent would be localized to the dust of the earth which God had cursed. He would perpetually eat from the dust which bears no spiritual life; he would forever be a dust junkie!

In Romans 8:1 tells us that the serpent can never be united with Christ.

There would be no spiritual redemption for his economy.

That’s why you can’t bring a blessed thing out of what God has cursed (unclean) except it goes through a spiritual regeneration.

Therefore man’s beastly nature or “serpentine nature” has to be crucified with Christ or nailed to the cross that the body of sin (sinful nature) might be destroyed or made powerless (Rom.6:6) so that we are no longer in bondage to sin.

Therefore,

1. Evangelism is the wonderful message from God that creates and conceives a new soul. It is the seed of God’s word planted in a life in which the ground has been prepared.

In Matthew 13:8 we see Jesus speaking of a prepared soil as “good ground” and good ground can only be made good by he who is good, that is God.  We see a person approaching Jesus and addressing him as good master and Jesus answered, “Why callest thou me good?

Jesus told him that only God is good.

The good farmer, which is God, does a spiritual cleansing of your ground then sows the seed of life.

This preparation of the ground is done by the Holy Spirit as He moved upon “the face of our waters” (Gen.1:2).

2. Evangelism is the birthing canal through which the kingdom of Heaven is expanded.

3. Evangelism brings souls into the kingdom by God’s Spirit pricking men’s hearts,

4. Evangelism needs the supplied power of God to be able to be bold witnesses. God has given you power over the “economy of the serpent”. He has made available dunamis. In other words, we are clothed with God’s ability and if you have not then you should be cloth with God’s ability.

In Acts 1:4 Jesus “being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me”.

Prayer brings evangelism into maturity after which dynamic episodes of evangelistic outreach can be seen as mentioned in the book of Acts 2:37, 41, where three thousand were saved.

In Acts 4:4 another 5,000 believed.

Acts 8:5 Phillip went down to Samaria, etc.

5. Evangelism need for one to reflect to his once unborn again state to revive his soul to the need that exist among the lost sons of God (Heb.10:32,33).

6. Evangelistic anointing is for service so that whatever you receive from God you must give away because you only keep what you give away.

7. Evangelism is reinforced by prayer which is the gateway for power. You must pray for;

a.      boldness; Acts 4:13,29,31

b.     revival

c.     repentance; Acts 3:19

d.     forgiveness

e.      renewed life

f.       household salvation Acts 2:39

You must pray until you draw the attention of God. Often our prayers lack persistency!

God is asking, “Will you endure for the area you are asking me to evangelize?

God is not only looking for you to pray the unsaved into the kingdom but to pray prayers that will maintain those baby saints.

It’s a father of low character who goes around making babies and not staying around to maintain them.

God wants to get you into the attitude of not just being a seed producer but a maintainer and developer of the seed with your prayers.

That means He has to get you into a love relationship with the seed. You must foresee the future development and maturity of the seed.

You must be willing to strengthen the gates of the seed as it grows to maturity, to go around to the gates or portals and make them secure.

You must be willing to clean up, cover and protect the seed with your prayers.

Are you at such a place in your prayer life?

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
