Payoffs For Layoffs? Not Team Obama!

More Obama Corruption

This is by far the most corrupt administration I have seen and I've seen more than a few. Obama and his cronies make Richard Nixon look like a choir boy. Now all you Obama supporters need to start paying attention even if you think Obama has your best interests at heart. He has his own at heart and this should further prove to you that he will do anything or say anything to protect his job. He doesn't care about your skin in the game one bit. He fooled you in 2008 and has been fooling you ever since. He said that if he didn't straighten out our economy, which he has not done, during his four year term it would be a one term proposition. Now none of you seem to want to hold the Liar-In-Chief to his word.

Stay with me because this is going somewhere. You just need to understand how Obama is willing to throw American workers under the bus just like he has thrown others under that same bus once their usefulness to him has been served. In this case it is his reelection I'm talking about. His one term proposition needs to be a reality and not his usual lying self.

Specifically there is a federal law called the WARN Act enacted in 1989 and later amended. That act requires that employers give workers a minimum of 60 days notice if they are going to lay them off. It is a federal law, not a regulation or wish list. Next into the arena is sequestration. Under the Budget Control Act of 2011 a deal was cut to raise the federal debt limit. That deal should have never happened nor the debt limit raised.

Promises were made under that Act to make mandatory budget cuts to reduce deficits by $2.1 trillion from 2012 to 2021. The whole concept of the Congressional commission they put together was ridiculous because all sides knew it was going to be no more than a dog and pony show that reached no agreement and sequestration would be the result. $500 billion of that sequestration would fall on the military in addition to an already existing cut of another $500 billion.

Here's where it gets interesting. The WARN Act requires that private-sector employers with 100 or more full-time employees workers at least 60 days notice of plant closings and layoffs. Without those warnings being given the law allows those employees to sue. Seems like a sensible law to protect workers to me.

Where it hits the road and goes splat though is that the 60 day limit will hit many defense contracting companies just before election day. So this administration has decided the companies in question, Lockheed Martin and BAE, being two of the major ones to break the WARN Act with a wink and a nod and they are being bribed by a promise This past Friday, things always come out on a Friday with this bunch, the Office of Management & Budget issued a memo telling contractors that if they do not issue mass layoff warnings then contractors will be repaid any legal costs when layoffs occur during sequestration. The memo went on to add that all legal fees would be covered regardless of the outcome of said litigation.

What A Snake In The Grass This Guy Is...

What's being said is pathetic, absolutely pathetic when the welfare of workers is what we are talking about and not the reelection of a slick politician named Obama. Just go ahead and break the federal law, dump on your workers and we got your back when you do because we say it's alright to do that. Just don't say a damned word about it to your workers before the election on November 6th.

Here's something you need to understand about this whole stinking deal. The Obama administration set this whole sequestration deal up knowing that the Congressional idiots that sat there weren't there to make a deal. It was intended as a dog and pony show. Obama knew going in that there was going to be fallout coming out. He can't deal with the reality of that fallout now and is attempting to hide reality from voters that thousands of workers are going to lose their jobs because he can't do his.

Understand something else about these bribes. That is taxpayer money that is being used to hush the truth. Being a taxpayer myself I am fed up with all this smoke and mirrors crap that continually goes on with a wink and a nod. Enough is enough. That isn't "government money" as liberals like to call it. That is our money which we entrust to a federal government to spend wisely, not bribe anyone into silence. That's called graft and corruption folks.

Up In Smoke

So now then just how many jobs are projected to be lost once the sequestration provisions kick in? A report issued by George Mason University has unemployment soaring above 9% again and that will cause a further reduction in the nation's growth in 2013. Our nation's growth has been anemic during the course of this administration already. And you want more? Convenient timing for Obama huh? Just a few of the job loss estimates amount to two-thirds of a million workers losing their jobs including 48,059 healthcare jobs, 98,953 construction jobs, 473,250 manufacturing jobs and 617,449 federal jobs.

The link below is the full findings of the study if you'd care to read it.

I'm sick and tired of the US taxpayers being Obama's personal ATM machine. Under what authority is this administration using to tell companies to disregard the federal law and not issue the notices? Congressional figures of all stripes are now asking that question. Under whose authority can a federal law be set aside? Obama's? He has now become a dictator or is it just a political move to try to cover up the reality of what will happen prior to this election?

Without due notice being given to the workers in question the taxpayers can be billions upon billions of dollars on the hook because Obama wants everyone to be quiet until after the election. The man is a nut job. Those are Americans he is using as pawns. Now if you don't think he'll throw your tired butt under the bus, I suggest you think again.

QUOTE OF THE DAY FROM SEVERAL US SENATORS: "Apparently, President Obama [is putting his own reelection] ahead of American workers by denying them adequate time to plan their finances and take care of their families."

Here's my suggestion about this Chicago style, underhanded, bumbler named Obama. It's time we issue him a termination notice this November. There will be no lay-off to it. And here you were thinking that Obama cares about anyone but himself. Bunk.

"Like" It, "Tweet" It, "Pin " It, "Share It" With Your Followers. Time to let em read it.

Obama will do any underhanded thing to keep his position as POTUSA. Not for the prestige of the office .....but to use the powers of the office to bypass the Constitution of the USA to destroy our country from within. This didn't begin in 2008 but was in place long before he was elected. He was a nobody and invisible and made no effort to stand out in the Position he held and them suddenly he was a candidate for the Presidency and won . How can a nobody suddenly become POTUS. Khrushchev said they would destroy us from within. We allowed our security to drop and they took advantage of it. Obama has secured all his records and is untouchable because if that. There is proof out there but unless we rid ourselves of Holder and his conspirators there will be no prosecution of any of obamas constituates . Therefore he has blocked all access to him legally. We have to convince his followers that he will throw them under the bus . This has been known in the Conservative circles but until the Senate and Congress grow a pair if kahunas we are doomed as a free nation respected for our strength militarily

rbw1241 - If there was ever the perfect Manchurian candidate Obama fits the profile to a "T."

I'm sure liberals will try to rationalize this outright encouragement of law breaking by this administration as "necessary." I'm already reading how this is being rationalized and there is no rational or logic explanations behind the tongue wagging. This is pure outright corruption and unacceptable politics with people's lives.

First he chases this same Boeing from South Carolina to Mexico9 because South Carolina is a Right to Work State; now when he needs Boeing he says, “Don’t worry about that little ole law that we Democrats passed a few years back to embarrass Republicans when we were in a budget battle with them (yes that’s right back when they actually passed budgets); anyway Obama tells Boeing I’ll pay your law suits with Tax Payer Dollars.

If Boeing complies with his request they deserve what they will get; the only problem is the rest of the country gets it too;

The Manchurian Candidate sure rings a bell with me Your Highness. You know darn well that the Gitmo Guys are going to come "home" to roost in Illinois, benefitting his "hometown" (b.s.) cronies. If they're sent to the Super Max, the Super Max inmates will be sent to Illinois. I have no idea why I threw this at you, but it seems in line with what you consistently prove to us: the man is a f'n liar.

If only those idiots (and those non-idiots who wanted to believe him) who voted for him the last time will hold his feet to the fire, watch as the fire consumes his shoes, socks, pants... and come back to reality and vote for Romney.

I say this despite the fact that "O" would undoubtedly benefit ME more than Romney. I say this because I have a child. We will be the first generation in history to pass off a MUCH worse nation to our children.

So I know this is pointless but whatever. When an official WARN notice is given the employees become available for work placement programs which they only have so much time to sign up for etc. however at this point there is a bill currently in the house that would prevent these layoffs entirely and no one is sure if it will pass yet so if it passes and the people have already been put into workplace programs that would be bad.

So instead the workers will be unofficially notified they would lose their job if the bill does not pass and if it doesn't they will be able to enter those programs just fine on the other hand if the bill does pass the government doesn't waste tens of millions on work programs and work placement people suddenly won't need.

It's actually in everyone's best interest.

You said nothing Josak. "Currently pending?" Really now and why wasn't the problem of sequestration solved back when they put the possibility in place? The LAW is the LAW Josak but that must be lost upon you being the liberal you are. Obama thinks he isn't subject to the laws of this nation. He has proven it over and over again.

This is a political bribery move son. That's a FACT. And if sequestration comes down many, many people will end up in the unemployment line with the other 23 million out of work labor force. Many of them have given up after their unemployment ran out.

Your liberal logic is totally out of whack as usual.

"Currently pending ?" What a laugh. So why won't they pass it before this election? Try thinking things through and not letting the koolaid course through your veins.

Hey Frog why don't you look up how long it takes to pass a bill.

I agree it should have been dealt with sooner but the bill was not proposed by either side until recently given that fact it needs to be voted on before the people are told they are fired, since they have already been told they will be fired if the bill does not pass it's not like they are going to be taken by surprise.

I additionally find it hilarious that this bill passed through a veto proof majority in 88 without Reagan's signature and with strong conservative opposition and now you are singing it's praises.

The WARN act is to let employees know they will be laid off, the staff in question already know they may be laid off so all is well and the purpose is served. The official notices will be delayed until we know if they will be laid off to save the taxpayer money.

Nothing to complain about.

I don't need to look anything up Josak. Bills can vary in speed of passage. Now be logical and rational when answering or move on. The WARN act was passed when Clinton was in office. Hello? Man you are one mixed up liberal who just starts spouting untruths. You work directly for Obama or what?

Again, I suggest you do some research before coming onto an article passing off fallacies as truth. Congress had more than ample time to head off sequestration.

"Direct Department of Labor link. The bill passed in 1988, now tell me Frog who was President in 1988?"

Reagan opposed the bill, but Congress was heavily Democrat and the vote was veto-proof, so there was nothing Reagan could do. But what goes around comes around, and now, WARN has come back to bite Obama.

In any case, this is a lawless president. If he is reelected despite all the scandals and failures, America does not deserve to survive as a free people.

Josak profile image

Josak 4 years ago from variable

The bill came into action in 89 but was passed in 88 just as I said, under Reagan, Reagan refused to sign it actually and it was only passed because the Democrats had a veto proof majority so no Reagan did not care more about the workers and there was as I noted earlier strong conservative opposition to the bill. (I love how you tell others to do their research)

I have already explained why the notices aren't being given but it in no way harms the workers, the notice would let them know they were going to be laid off, they have already been notified they may be laid off. Not handing out the notices will save potentially tens of millions of dollars if the bill does pass therefore it is not being handed out. Very simple.

Will - Good points and the other thing I didn't put in this Hub has to do with unions. Lockheed and BAE are heavily unionized. So lets just take our pants down and crap on those union workers to get them to vote for us now and screw them later? Is that the theory?

I don't think Josak knows very much about laws, vetoes and so forth. Bush was faced with the same thing that Reagan faced at the end of his second term. That's where things started running off course during both administrations. Congress has the power to make the laws and appropriate the money.

Presently there is not someone who knows how to compromise in the Oval Office therefore we see the lawlessness of the Obama administration over and over again.

I'm weary of it myself. I'm not sure Josak was old enough to appreciate Ronald Reagan. You and I were and supported him because he had common sense and was a leader. Yes Josak, Reagan let it become law and your point is? If you were one of those workers Josak you might be singing a different tune. Correct me if I am reading this incorrectly.

As frog is trying to point out, it doesn't matter who wrote the bill that is now LAW. It doesn't matter who agreed with the bill, or disagreed with the bill, it is now the LAW. For Obama to try to circumvent this LAW because of the upcoming election is disgraceful. These are real people who will be hurt by these layoffs that were never necessary in the first place. If our elected politicians were doing their jobs we would not even be having this discussion. Again, if I read you incorrectly please let me know. It just doesn't read like something coming from a person who really cares about people and I know you do.

"The WARN act was passed when Clinton was in office." ~ Frog

Now Frog what is the purpose of the WARN act? It's purpose is to let people know they will be let go. Now these workers have already been notified they may be let go and there is a chance they won't be if the bill passes so how does not receiving a WARN notice harm these American families?

Old Poolman profile image

Old Poolman 4 years ago from Rural Arizona

Josak, be honest. The problem with sending out the WARN notices is the timing. We are close to an election, and this WARN notice could cost Obama some votes.

It is really that simple, but it is the LAW that is in place at this time. To say we are trying to change this LAW means absolutely nothing.

Josak profile image

Josak 4 years ago from variable

Hi Poolman, nice to see you again.

Your point about the little guy has a simple answer.

There is no possible way in which the little guy can lose with this arrangement.

If they are laid off the federal government will cover the WARN obligations (as Frog pointed out in his hub) which will entitle all of those employees to I believe 90 days pay which means they won't be hurt.

If they are not laid off then they keep their jobs and they don't have to go through the anguish of being told they will lose their jobs, the effort and wasted time of trying to find another job and the cost of signing up for work placement programs etc.

Either way the average worker doesn't lose.

Additionally if the WARN notice was given out and then the bill passed and the workers were not laid off the taxpayer would have lost potentially tens of millions in work placement programs, severance arrangements, processing hours and material costs.

The Frog Prince profile image

Mike - Josak totally misses the point of what is going on here. It is a political move and to encourage companies to break a federal law is unacceptable for political reasons or any other reason for that matter.

Stop trying to point over anywhere but the points I brought up Josak. It's childish. Now answer why it is alright for Obama and his minions to send out a memo themselves to companies saying their legal bills will be paid by US taxpayers and not to send out the notices required by the LAW. It is a law and as OP pointed out it means not a frigging thing who, what, when it was enacted. Stop acting like a child. I got specific with what the law requires. Do you care to dispute that or not. Good f**king grief. It's like trying to talk with a box of rocks.

I object to the memo that was sent out as a US taxpayer. I object to this administration suggesting that the notices need to be withheld until AFTER the election. Are you missing the point or just here to pick nits? You liberals just love to pick nits don't you?

The taxpayer is the one who will lose Josak. How much federal income tax did you pay last year son? Your last paragraph is total BS BTW.

At this point in this administration, why would anyone reason that Congress could pass anything? The WARN Act is not about a "what if then" scenario. If these contractors are out of work and no longer need the worker then the necessary steps under the law should be followed. This is exactly the same type of thinking which got the mortgage industry in up over their butts....as Ronald Reagan once said, "the biggest lie ever told was 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help you'." Let's apply the same logic to a company walking the edge of bankruptcy but trying real hard to stay out. If we ignore the WARN ACT it is because we plane to avoid bankruptcy but if we cannot the company is in violation of federal law. The government steps in and says, don't worry, ignore the law and we'll cover your costs out of taxpayer funds????? I call that a "one-way" law which can be used by what ever liberal government official at his/her convenience to prosecute a company but then bent to his/her convenience when "re-election" time is upon us. At the rate the government moves, these out of jobs workers will be half-starved before any work-related programs fall into shape....there's plenty of time for the government to stumble all over this. Here is another just another Obama system test designed to see who is going to challenge him when he ignores the law....wait and see where that leads...then again, all you good socialist types know that answer already. ~WB

It looks like 2013 is shaping up to be a whopper. Sequestration will further gut the military, and Taxmageddon will suck $500 billion out of the economy. Both will cause unemployment to go up, raising payouts under federal and state social systems, which are already bulging at the seams with debt. Rising energy costs will make things worse for demand and employment as Iran continues to garner allies in the Horn of Africa and eventually obtains the ability to blockade Gulf oil; just the fear that Iran might use this capacity will alone cause gas prices to rise in the near future (especially if Ethiopia has an "Arab Spring," allies with Iran, and threatens Red Sea oil traffic with land based rockets). I think we're in for some very tough times ahead.

Stu 4 years ago

Josak,

"Nothing to complain about?" First, Congress passes a law that exceeds Article 1 Section 8 enumerated federal powers, and then Obama has the gall to pass the cost onto the taxpayers. What do we get for this forced largesse? A military even more hollowed out than it is already.

Wake up and smell the poison - Obama is forcing the American people to finance the demise of their own defense. Even what remains of the military, under Obama's dreams of utopia, will be diverted from national defense to diplomacy and global warming. We've already got plenty of agencies wasting a fortune of taxpayer money making giant diplomatic blunders and trying to fight a "greenhouse gas" problem nobody can even prove exists.

Josak, I can't buy what you said about none of the workers being hurt. Unless of course you were to view the available "Entitlements" programs as being a suitable replacement for a good paying job and taking pride in being a productive member of society.

Like others, I firmly believe the effort to stop these notices from going out until after the election tells the whole story. What guarantee is there that even if Obama is re-elected that these laid off workers will ever find a job as good as the job they lost. If he downsizes the Military, there will be many more joining the ranks of the unemployed. Where does he propose these people get a job?

While I appreciate your comment back to me, I just can't see how this layoff will not hurt the people involved. The whole issue that is threatening their jobs is purely political and we all know that. To hurt this many people just to get re-elected doesn't say much for our leader in my book.

reading all the comments I see many educated and well thought out statements. Unfortunately you may be missing the truth behind all of this.

Obama is dancing the sidestep and hiding the real agenda. http://youtu.be/YLqKVnNpQ4s

Since March 16th 2012, we were placed under Martial Law and he is hoping to pass something that will bring out public unrest, then he can impose it fully, take our guns and our rights under the articles of Martial law and we will have no choice except to rebel or comply. Rebellion against the US Military is not a wise option. He becomes dictator until civil disobedience has subsided. The election, Obama Care, illegal migration, the national deficit, are all designed to throw us off his real desires to make this country socialist.

"Rebellion against the US Military is not a wise option."

I doubt that the military will turn on their own people, and they also know that they will be facing over 100,000,000 armed and angry Americans if any presidents tries to impose martial law on the entire nation.

Admiral Yamamoto once famously said that he had no plans to invade America because there would "be a rifle behind every blade of grass".

President Obama has quietly signed Executive Order 13603, which gives him extraordinary power over private property rights and national resources in times of peace and war alike.

Obama put his signature on 13603, otherwise known as the National Defense Resources Preparedness Order, on March 16. In effect, the order gives the federal government permission to seize all manner of property or take virtually any actions it deems necessary in the interests of national security “in peacetime and in times of national emergency”—without defining either of these terms.

Josak: I would much rather have a notice that I am on the pink list of those who are to be laid off, than just know that maybe I am and maybe I am not on the list. That second choice is much more stressful.

But, the bottom line is that we are a nation of laws. No person of any class or stature is exempt from the law. An ass named Obama has told Americans repeatedly that he does not intend to adhere to U.S. law. I believe you will be shocked after the election. Time will tell.

I am praying every day for the Lord to confound the criminals in Washington, and for the criminals to be ousted by double digit percentages. It will be well deserved. Eventually, we all reap what we sow.

There will be no martial law. Our military has good reason to detest what has been done to them in the last 3+ years. When our men are being sacrificed in the Middle East every day for no good reason, their military brothers and sisters will be proud to defend our flag, our people, and our Constitution.

There may be some military who will follow illegal orders, but the majority of the military will not follow illegal orders, and/or harm the American people.

It's unbelievable how libs can be so blind. This is like sweeping dirt under the rug.

Back in 2007, Obama said: "We must give the WARN Act teeth, to ensure that workers are not left in the lurch without a job or a paycheck".

Libs, see for yourself: http://www.toledoblade.com/frontpage/2007/07/15/Wi...

Another flip-flop when it is convenient - at the expense of taxpayers!

caltex - How easy liberals forget the facts. Unfortunate but true. I think they're all hanging their heads low like Obama did last night today.

In response to your statement about "Every President Signed" Facts need to be presented correctly. Obama’s signing of Martial Law was the first time in the History of the United States in peacetime conditions. Also He appointed 7 individuals over the departments all of which (again the first time this has happened in a peace time situation) are above US Laws. It was done (rather presented to congress) to enable the US to try American Islamic’s caught committing treason, as terrorist. The Supreme Court stated the individuals were Americans and trying them as terrorist violated their Civil Rights. So the reason for Martial law was rebutted. However Obama did not relinquish control and maintain his position. If he is not re-elected, his next course of action will be to commit an act that will bring forth public unrest (IE: Pardoning Ben-White) then impose Martial Law, and remove guns from homes and retain the position until “He” and the seven appointees deem the Government can be returned to the previous state and election outcome can move forward.

must65gt - I know what his executive orders say myself. This is what I also know. Any President can sign whatever he wants as far as EO's. The enforcement part is where he/she would have a problem. I'm an Oath Keeper and there are many in the field right now who are in that organization. As I said previously, it wouldn't be a very good idea in this country to attempt to impose martial law, especially on a whim. I believe that Obama knows the rules. If he doesn't them I just reckon he would have to study up real quick like.

Chris - My friend you know I have no problem telling it like it is and if my government violates the US Constitution blatantly that is what the founding documents are for. They all apply just as much to day as they did when they were penned.

lol frogg, that’s why Obama wants to change them! He can't become emperor until he puts all his people and plans in place. I find Obamas adds about "how can we trust Romney" rather stupid....but even more I am shocked people still trust Obama after his lack of performance in the first 4 years. This country is in a serious state of chaos.

must65gt - I took the oath the first time in 1968. It was repeated many times over the course of 23 years. Never was it an oath to defend any President. It was to defend the US Constitution and the institutions that we hold dear. Never to an individual.

It would be a big (huge actually) mistake for Obama to try to disarm this nation. The Second Amendment was written to protect the First Amendment.

There are 47% of the people who are on the government tit and swear their allegiance to a fraud like Obama, not all of the 47% but many of them. They don't want to lose that nipple they are sucking on and he wants more of them on it. Sad but true.

I agree wholeheartedly, but we also thought we would never have an Islamic or socialist President. Just keep em locked and loaded! Guns were already taken from people in Germany, England and Austrailia.

For right now just let it be understood that the Second Amendment wasn't an afterthought of the founding fathers. It was put in place to protect the First Amendment. That's history.

Wouldn't I just love to rephrase the first and second amendment. I know they knew about political figures such as LBJ, Carter, and Obama - they must have thought they would stay in England? Nah, they probably prayed that We The People would always outnumber the enemy within, and figure out what to do about them. I see evidence every day that there are Washington's, Reagan's, Jefferson's, etc. among us. It is a shame it didn't occur to my husband to run for the Presidency when he was younger and healthier. I am sure you all know someone like him. That person of such intellect, solid reasoning skills, Christian values, capable of deep love for the Republic - - - heck, a Marine's mentality.
