Political Extortion - Dem Style

How Low Can They Get?

Yesterday I talked about rationalizing lies Obama style and I briefly mentioned the contents of this Hub. I couldn't make this type of nonsense up if I wanted to though sometimes I am accused of making stuff up as I go along. I don't have to, I leave that to Obama and his minions in Congress. This has to do with outright extortion by the Democratic Party and it isn't at all funny since it involves future generations and their economic welfare. That's the part I don't understand about what I see going on currently on Capitol Hill. Maybe they just don't care what kind of debt and how much each American citizen owes at any instant in time to finance some bloated, power hungry monster we have now as our federal government. Some people would say I am being hateful. Most people would say I'm being realistic.

Lets take a quick look at the National Debt Clock one more time before we move forward:

That isn't a pretty picture on close examination but it helps serve to illustrate the graveness of the excessive spending problems we are experiencing. Obama has somehow found ways to spend more money in just over two years that it took GWB over eight years to amass. But he's going to save us from ourselves because he believes that a large federal government is the answer rather than the problem. Just read the debt clock if you believe that.

What I am about to write here I find unacceptable, whether done by Democrats or Republicans. This sort of conduct being given a wink and a nod by Obama, he of "no more business as usual in DC" fame, is abhorrent. It's called political extortion. It's outrageous and smacks of business as usual by the professional pick pockets up there in Foggy Bottom. As I said, I can't make stuff like this up if I tried.

You've heard of the Dream Act? And you've also seeing all the jaw wagging and lack of action about spending cuts in the US Senate? You've seen them previously whistle right by the federal debt ceiling which is now no more than a moving target? Lets now endeavor to tie them all together compliments of Progressive Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois. If this is the best the state of Illinois has to offer as Senate material then they are in deep kimchee without a set of chop sticks.

A report by the Washington Examiner goes as follows: "[Senator Dick] Durbin told Senator John Kyl (R-AZ) on Fox Sunday News program that if the GOP passed the Dream Act, Democrats would be more than willing to talk about reducing the country's spending habit." But he went even further during that debate segment as he discussed granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. "We're not giving up, " he said, "because it isn't what the American people want us to do. It isn't the America way." I suggest Durbin check the pulse of the American people about both issues involved here.

He had the backing of Harry Reid obviously. Harry proclaimed that "It's time to rise up! The Dream Act is good for everybody." This has become a broken treadmill as the three of them (Obama, Reid and Durbin) have continually tried to ram this down our throats after the American people have consistently rejected the concept of amnesty for illegal immigrants. Then to tie spending cuts to something like this is totally over the cliff politics as usual.

Snake oil is snake oil, no matter which bottle you place it in. The Dream Act is such an elixir. Liberals like to couch it in do-gooder terms. It's all about "caring" which it really has very little to do with. Or try this on for size. It's all about providing a "safety net" for illegal immigrants who are just the victims of circumstance. Like that fit? Now Harry wants us all to believe that the Dream Act is a magnificent piece of legislation to provide an education to the illegal immigrant children of illegal immigrant parents. The sins of the parents should not be conveyed to the children of the sinners. Just discard the fact that the parents should have thought about the consequences conveyed to the children when they set their illegal feet on American soil. They knew better.

So lets visit Harry's Nightmare On Reid Street. What Harry says, just like Obama, and what is in any legislation proposed are animals of a different stripe. Why does Harry insist of trying all the sneak attempts of ramming this down our throats? Because it has never been able to pass on its own merit, and the American people don't want amnesty granted to illegal aliens. It has become a "by hook or by crook" cause for these career political criminals, with heavy emphasis on the "crook" part of the term.

Why do they want to add insult to injury to all of the hard working, play by the rules, obey the law Americans out here where the rubber meets the road? Try this question out for size. There are tens of thousands of people legally waiting in immigration lines to come to the greatest nation on earth. What kind of signal do you send them when you grant amnesty to millions of law breakers who decided they wanted to butt into the front of the line?

What Obama, Reid and Durbin aren't telling you straight up is that this isn't just about granting amnesty to children. It will also grant amnesty to adults. Here's how the Dream Act Gang dresses this up. They care so much that they want to offer a path to citizenship legitimately to those children of illegal immigrants transported across the border. The caveat is as long as they attend college or enter the military. Sounds admirable in principle.

We have to look to the past legislation in an attempt to gauge what they are proposing. You don't have to look back further than this past fall either. That attempt failed. There are three things to look specifically at:

1) Provisions that anyone under the age of 35, having resided illegally in this nation for the past five years, could apply and receive amnesty.

2) The Act provides that all one has to do to qualify is to be "admitted" to an institution of higher learning. They leave out anything after the admittance process.

3) Once an applicant applies they are automatically granted six (6) years of of permanent residence in the US of A.

There are always loopholes in this sort of thing and there was a biggun in the last iteration. The past sometimes needs to be watched closely. No one wanted to discuss the "biggun" last time around for obvious reasons. Nowhere in its provisions did it require an applicant to provide proof that they met the critieria in the law. It is free pass time once again in Democrat LalaLand but only because they "care" so much.

These illegal immigrants wouldn't lie would they? All they have to do, even if they crossed the border three days ago, was enroll in one course in a community college, never bother to attend said course (just a minor technicality) and even if they are over the age of 35 no one is going to bother to verify that little detail either. If that isn't a free pass then I've never seen one before in my life.

It's dressed up as a "small amnesty" for those unfortunate children of parents who decided to cross our border illegally. When in fact, it opens Pandora's Box for very large numbers of illegals to be granted amnesty. As one writer so simply stated it:

"And for those who may say the Dream Act would be a small amnesty, for just a handful of 'kids,' the Migration Policy Institute, a pro-amnesty outfit, has estimated that 2.1 million illegal immigrants could benefit from it." I guess 2 million, plus or minus, has indeed become a small number these days in Washington. But look at the numbers in relation to reality.

The reality is that the Dream Act is a means of granting back door amnesty to just about every illegal immigrant in America. Once the 'kids' are legal the door gets flung wide open for chain migration. They can become sponsors for large numbers of their non-nuclear family members. Just think of the glee lurking in the hearts of those illegal immigrants waiting to sneak across the border at that prospect.

In their minds, November 2010 never occurred. That's the mindset of the likes of Obama, Reid and Durbin. This was attempted in the lame duck session of Congress that just passed and it failed. The election results were about curbing excessive spending and the cessation of "business as usual" in Washington DC. These progressive liberals are in denial of that message obviously. The majority of Americans, time after time, have rejected amnesty in any form being granted to illegal immigrants. That position hasn't changed either. Their bitterness at losing the election and losing control is quite evident by their actions regarding this issue. This is again all about them and has little to do with what you and I desire for this nation.

To now link this nonsense to the Democrat's cooperation in cutting the excessive spending that they were involved in the past two years is extortion. It isn't about cutting back room deals. It seethes of bitterness at having failed numerous times in trying to ram this down our throats and failing to do so. It is what it is. I call it corruption of the worst sort and refer back to my opening paragraph and the National Debt Clock. While the country burns under a tremendous debt burden, these idiots want to fiddle again concerning a lost cause.

What can you do? The same thing I have done. Write to your two Senators and express your outrage that this sort of boondoggle is being proposed. It is unconscionable to even propose that amnesty for any illegal alien be tied in any form to spending cuts and reduction of our national debt. If you have ever wondered about "what is wrong" with the people in Washington DC, you need look no further than Obama, Reid and Durbin and these types of actions and rhetoric.

Have a great week,

As Always,

The Frog Prince

This is worse than extortion; it's an outright trick. Tying spending cuts to amnesty would only be temporary. Once enough illegals and their families are made US citizens, the Democrats would have all the votes they need to control both houses and cancel the spending cuts. In fact, it could guarantee Democratic presidencies into the indefinite future.

Durbin’s remarks remind me of a spoiled child; you pass the Dream Act and maybe you’ll get Democratic Support for Spending Cuts. My God it’s like saying if you want to save the country then give us yet again what we want; we will not act responsibly unless we get something for it.

I can’t believe to what level this modern Democratic Party has sunk; they are worse than Bottom Feeders!

Once again, under this administration's guidence, the Washington crew is punching holes in the boat faster than we can bail. When My children were young, they got spankings for a lot less childish behavier than this. These are adults, and it's criminal behavier.

This is so true about the Debt that the Dem. Party is giving us and Generations to come to have to deal with. Yes, you're so right to call it Extortion. As a Conservative, does anyone have our backs? Will 2012 change things for us? Wonderful Hub, Frog Prince, but oh so Sad!

Politicians do depend on spending other peoples money to do what they think are good deeds.

S.O.P., Frog. I'm thinking we ain't seen nuthin' yet...till we get to the 2012 campaign season. The muck-slinging, extortion, and dirty tricks galore then should make 2011 look pristine by comparison.

Today we have a vote for a new Member of Congress. (Our last one got caught trolling Craig's List for hookers of all types... Nice abs for a 50 year old, but really?)

We've been inundated with ads from both parties for his replacement. They have been uniformly unendurable. Both sides (and we have an Independent, too) have fallen to depths I've not seen in my lifetime. The Republican is the worst - the Democrat has stuck to some principles, but has been bad, as well. The Independent has been the best, but has little chance of doing anything but steal Republican votes.

If THIS is what we have to look forward to in 2012 - we will ALL be tossing our TV's in the trash or relying on Netflix for entertainment. Nasty, evil and downright horrible.

Wait - it's gonna get worse...

34th BG - The "Independent" you mention, from what I have been reading, is a Democrat dressed up like a TPM member?

tom - It's hard to defend the indefensible. The idiots up there who have been warming the same seats for decades want to play politics rather than face reality and fix the problems we face. Then they have many people convinced that they have the answers. These are same people who were involved in creating the damned problems in the first place so I don't expect them to have the answers.

Then to continue to play their political oneupmanship should sicken just about any American as they watch it. Some people are so brain washed by a political party system belief that we could go down in flames, which is where they have us heading, and wonder what the hell happened. What happened was them sticking there head in the sand thinking career politicians have their best interests at heart. Hardly the case my friend. It's all about them and trying to maintain power at anyone and everyone's expense.

Another comment. Even the extortion is a trick. Let's say the Dumocrats really did agree to bigger spending cuts in exchange for DREAM. We are already spending over $100 billion per year to support and incarcerate the illegals. With chain migration, this number could easily skyrocket to $500 billion or more. In other words, we could end up with additional expenses as large as the current interest tab on the official debt. In the end, we would wind up with enough Mexican votes to guarantee libby power forever, AND an increased annual operating deficit.

Stu - Durbin used the words "will consider" and we can trust Durbin. Sure we can.

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Sadly, even if Durbin and his ilk agreed to some cuts, I doubt we are at the point that anything meaningful will happen. The bottom line is that to get a worthwhile spending and tax reform plan implemented, you have to get the Senate and Obama on board. So far, the Senate has dug in their heels, and Obama has publicly stated he won't support the Ryan Bill. Only a crisis will shake the Senate and Obama out of their complacency. But will it then be too late to solve the problem? At some point no amount of refrom will work, because the problem will have grown too large.

The Senate under Reid is a disgrace. The last two sessions he called the other side of the aisle "the party of NO." No is sometimes a good answer.

This session the Dems have become "the party of doing nothing." It will come back to bite them in the ass if they don't get to work. I'm tired of paying politicians good money to sit up there and play partisan politics on our dime.

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Given what Congress has been up to lately, I'd pay them a bonus to just stay home.

I have suggested to more than a few that recess is over, stay at work and begin solving the problems that we face and throwing money at them isn't the answer anymore.

We pay these people good money. For what? To play political games?

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Yeah, I know you're right. It's just that every time they touch something, they make it worse.
