OH NO...SOCIALISTS, COMMUNISTS, MARXISTS, and HEAVEN FORBID...LIBERALS

Socialist, Marxist, communist, fascist, Nazi, Antichrist, gay, lesbian, transgendered, contraception, abortion, equal health care, teachers, and education are villains, unions are evil, too many regulations, tax cuts for the rich and drill baby drill. These are the words and phrases we hear almost daily in the current climate of politics, religion and those arguing for social issues. My brain is sputtering, sizzling like a pressure cooker, as smoke blows out of my ears. I’m on information overload and my internal computer is ready to crash. In an effort to remain somewhat sane, I have found it necessary to finally say “enough” as I step back and observe less in this crazed atmosphere of nastiness, lies, and half-truths. Both my brain and blood pressure need a break.

GLOBAL WARMING, CLIMATE CHANGE AND HYDRAULIC FRACTURING

There is global warming. Oh no, it isn't global warming the world is experiencing. Instead, we are going through climate change. Nope, there isn't climate change at all because that is nothing more than faulty science. Hydraulic fracturing doesn't pollute water or lands and it certainly doesn't cause earthquakes. For you see, all one need do is ask the geoscientific employees of the oil and gas companies because they are truly practicing real science. We all know that scientists, just like those employed in government accounting offices as statisticians, have never massaged facts and figures to fit the way they want them to appear. After all, these well-intentioned people are professionals and most assuredly do not want to doubt or question the data presented to us.

PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE

President Obama is a Kenyan and wasn't born in Hawaii. You might ask, “Oh come on. Be real will you. Who could honestly make such an inane claim?” Well, the answer is quite simple. If you want the truth, it isn’t too far from your remote control. There are two people who avoid cameras and notoriety and really prefer anonymity, but their patriotic duty draws them into the issue of presidential citizenship like the untalented Kardashians are drawn into reality TV. So, who are these patriots that need to bring Obama’s citizenship into question? The two accusers are none other than “Mr. Low Profile,” Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his accomplice “Mr. Keep Me Out of the Spotlight,” Donald Trump. Seriously…should either of these guys be believed? Why didn't anyone question John McCain's citizenship when he ran for president? Mr. McCain was born in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone and the last time I checked that wasn't part of the United States.

CONTRACEPTION, PEDOPHILES, AND MARRIAGE

Double standards are rampant in our society. Insurance coverage for female contraception is frowned upon, although covering men for male enhancement and sexual dysfunction drugs appears to be totally acceptable. Churches are appalled at the mere thought of abortions and yet pedophile priests were simply shuffled around from one diocese to another, spreading sexual abuse of children like an out of control virus. The divorce rate for heterosexual couples within the United States is estimated between 40% - 50% but heaven forbid if gay and lesbian lovers want to get married because we all know only true love exists in the hearts of heterosexual couples. I won’t even touch upon the thought of gays or lesbians adopting children. Who really knows what goes on in those situations? Nuns are being chastised as they stand up for women’s health issues and promoting equal health care. My God, don’t these nuns realize how important it is to be suing the Obama Administration over the Affordable Care Act? Have these Sisters forgotten their sense of loyalty to the male-dominated Church?

POLICE, FIRE, UNEMPLOYED AND STAND YOUR GROUND

People receiving unemployment benefits aren't looking hard enough for a job. Those folks on Welfare are lazy. Poor children who want to help themselves should be working as janitors in schools. Stand Your Ground laws promote personal safety and if a few innocent people are gunned down and murdered…well, we just chalk that up to collateral damage. Members of the police and fire departments, along with teachers, are all living high on the hog. I don’t know how they look into the mirror each day. They are literally on the front lines of society and teachers have, by and large, gone on and received their Master’s degrees and now they want a living wage. Oh come on now. Why can’t they face the music like everyone else?

GREED, INEQUALITY, AND MANIPULATION

In reality, I could turn this article into a several hundred page book. I will not live long enough to understand why people back unfairness, inequality, greed, pollution, manipulation, and zealots with astronomical amounts of cash to throw into the political arenas. I think I am a reasonable man and the agendas in front of me don’t seem to make sense.

BREATHE AND WALK BACK

So now that my head is about to blow off of my shoulders, I am going to make a conscious decision to step back a tad from all of this political, social and religious rhetoric. Of course, I also understand this may last only a couple of days, maybe a day, or worse, just a few hours. Time will tell and then most likely, so will I. Whew, I think I've covered enough territory for now.

P.S. Several months have passed since I wrote this post and truth be told, I can't remain quiet. I will continue to speak out against injustice and refuse to roll over and become complacent.

I am going to make this very short and sweet....because just a few words can sum up my opinion of your superb hub!

I am with you 100% ....Couldn't agree with you more! Peace......UP +++!!!

Ginger Ruffles 4 years ago

Understand. It can be overwhelming at times especially the stupid on parade. Go do some naked polka's, communing with nature and then come back to us please!

I completely feel your pain with every word of this excellent and truthful hub. I have also had to take some steps back. The best thing I've done is get rid of cable. Now we have streaming Netflix. No more "news" channels, PAC attack ads etc. If I want to know what is going on I simply read the news from real sources once or twice a week and that is sufficient. I have had a lot of personal upheavals in my life lately and the stress of that is enough that I don't need to absorb myself in the nonsense more than needed.

You are the voice of sanity and reason though and I love your hubs - so step back, but not completely out. We all need more voices of reason to counterbalance the overabundance of stupid that seems so prevalent these days. None of it is worth sacrificing ones health or sanity however - so enjoy nature or do something relaxing for awhile, because our growing pains in this country are turning into a bumpy ride to say the least.

Great hub pages, please come back after a refreshing hiatus, as has been said we need more voices of reason in the wilderness.

You did a good job with this. Sometimes we get up set and start saying things that are unreal. This shows that you have a problem. The country welcomes improvement. We spend so much time brickering we don't make the real changes that should be made. Even when you took this item by item you made us look foolish. Thanks so much for your excellent HUB Voted Up.

Stay Well

Best hub you ever wrote! I too use to take it personal but I have learned to debate without making enemies, Josak is a friend of mine yet we agree on NOTHING! I would take him to lunch and enjoy our visit anytime he was in the area if given the opportunity. I would do the same for YOU! I can't believe it but I am voting this one UP! LOL!

O, Dennis, I SO feel your frustration - your sarcasm is showing..lol..We can't BOTH step back at the same time and..i do believe i stepped back first! What will become of the liars, cheaters, thieves, politicians, extremists, manipulators and general assholes and shit disturbers? Sigh, you know who i mean - THE MAJORITY!!! The problem is - the crazies seemingly have WAY more time, energy, and determination to see their twisted agendas thru. We're sorely outnumbered, my friend - insanity is clearly kicking our asses! AWESOME HUB!

fpherj48 - Thank you for dropping by and your kind comment. You had me for a moment when you mentioned you were going to make your reply short and sweet. I thought, "Oh boy, here we go." Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the remainder of your words. Thank you for your vote of confidence.

@ Ginger Ruffles...Thanks for the advice on doing the naked Polka. The problem is I wrote this article yesterday and the Polish show isn't on until Sunday. Ha ha ha. It is a crazy world we live in and television on 24 hours a day certainly doesn't help.

Ginger Ruffles 4 years ago

Turn off the TV. In the meantime that video you posted for me has a nice polka sort of beat...fake it!

@ Christin S - I appreciate you reading and replying to my Hub. As misery loves company, I am glad you feel my pain. That must have been a gutsy move to get rid of cable. I'm afraid if I did that I would need some kind of a 12 Step program for cable abusers. My problem really is information overload. Too many papers read...too many news shows...and way too much talk radio. Actually, when you analyze it most likely a person can go nuts, being swayed either one way or the other. So today I fed the birds, bought the dogs some treats, took a nice drive by myself and talked to a good friend from out of town. Aah...I feel better already.

@ Josak...Thank you for stopping by and commenting on my article. I guess we are reactionary creatures and when I see, hear or read things that go against my grain I feel I have to interject how I feel about the issue. The weather is getting nicer, my garden is starting to pop and my flowers are blooming...so I need to tend to my outdoor chores and sporadically throw in my 2 cents. Thanks again.

@ glmclendon I was glad to see that you popped in and left me a message...thank you for that. You are absolutely correct regarding too much bickering going on today. People are in frenzy mode when they go after those with opposing views. We have taken a normally civil act of debate and turned it into one of hostility. To me anyway, that is not the American way.

pagesvoice profile image

pagesvoice 4 years ago from New York/Pennsylvania border Author

@ American Romance - Seriously, are you trying to give me a heart attack? I'm kidding of course and I appreciate you stopping by and leaving your footprint on my article. Thank you for the vote up! "Yes" we have our political differences and "yes" we can agree to disagree, but as I have said over and over, many with differing views spilled their blood for the freedoms we ALL enjoy and that is what makes "US" Americans. Thanks again.

@ Hamper97...Thank you my friend for reading and commenting. Knowing me the way I do, it probably won't be long before I pipe up and voice my concern over something. Heck, it may even be tomorrow.

A well written piece Dennis. I get so irritated myself. I'm so tired of hearing Trump bitch about Obama's birth certificate. If Trump ran for office wouldn't a lot of dirt be found on him. That's why he doesn't have the balls to run. He is loud mouthed and arrogant and only brags about himself. He should be flushed down the toilet of life.

@ ImKarn23...Well there's my old pal...thanks for stopping in and leaving your wonderful comment. Moi sarcastic? Surely you jest. Oh my, as I'm replying to you they are doing a segment on TV about colon rectal screenings. Is there a subliminal message there?I don't know if we are necessarily outnumbered Ms. L. I think the majority are complacent and silent. Hopefully they will find their voices at election time.

@ Larry W. Fish...Thank you Larry for going the extra mile and reading and commenting on this article. Trump likes nothing more than to trumpet his own horn. He's like the little boy in school who is always looking for attention. I guess the saying is true for people of his ilk...any publicity, even negative publicity...is good publicity. Wow, I got a tad redundant with that one.

@ always exploring - I'm glad I got a laugh out of you. Hey, I'm here to please. It always amazes me when I start writing Hubs like this one because I never know where they will go or how they will turn out. I think this one turned out alright though.

Excellent hub. A truly enjoyable read. Made me laugh and yet realize just how frustrating, and complicated, things really are in this world today. Oddly enough, as of June 5th (referencing Wisconsin, of course) i, too, have decided to step back from it all for a while. I have lost all hopes of redemption for our government, and am sick to death of those religious idiots screaming about their Gods of hatred. So, time for a hiatus to recoup what little sanity i have remaining. I look forward to reading more of words of wisdom.

@ d. william...Thank you for reading and commenting. We are in a caldron of lies, deceit, corruption and money, money, money. There aren't enough Soros in this country to combat the corporations and Koch brothers. I really think we are doomed.

Great hub, pagesvoice ... I live in the UK but can identify with everything you say. Nothing changes, there is corruption, sleaze and Donald Bloody Trump over here as well. Never trust a man with a quiff, I say ...

Now go and have a nice lie down and then get on with the weeding ... the dogs’ll help you. :)

pagesvoice profile image

pagesvoice 4 years ago from New York/Pennsylvania border Author

@ Angie Jardine - What a nice surprise to see you stop by and leave your comment. For the love of money, I have no idea why people are drawn to Donald Trump...unless it is like a train wreck, where you still have to look. I used to have a friend who lied constantly. When I finally asked him why he did it his quick retort was, "You've gotta lie." I guess that statement sums up the current climate in politics. They all lie.

Also, thank you for the advice on weeding. I'll be weeding the vegetable garden today, along with doing some edging on the flower gardens and landscaping. Some say that is work, but I find it a form of relaxing. Okay, call me crazy.

Obama did murder an american citizen, that is an argument to make against him not this birth certificate crap. We can honestly save a fortune by having our military leave europe what's the big bad threat in Europe anyway now?

@ Darkproxy Thank you for reading and replying to my article. This story was my own personal rant about some of the insanity that is going on in politics and inflamed by a hungry media looking for ratings. Everything has become a hot button issue...either real or imagined and I just need a break from the controversy for a while.

I know how you feel, I try doing online activism on tumblr its as bad as Fox and MSNBC only people interact with you so I left and started up here. Oddly I saw your question on whiny men aka generation y and I'm part of it ugh. Although I think it has to do with the feminization of men.

EMOTIONAL, yes!!!! That is why I walk my dog instead of read the newpaper, hug trees instead of watching TV, float in my bubble touching people keeps my blood pressure in check and me healthy and wise!

You did an awesome job of putting perspective on the craziness in our ever spinning world! Tada..Dennis!!! xo

@ Picadilly...What a nice surprise to start off my Saturday morning with a comment from the divine Ms. P. I am so glad it is summer so I can spend my days outside, working in the garden or yard, doing minor chores, etc., and less time glued to political nonsense. Journalists, pundits, shock jocks, news anchors are all busy promoting their slant on things and how to rile their viewing or listening audiences. However, in doing so, these same folks drive a wedge into a reactionary populace. Yes, I do need a break from the insanity.

I understand exactly how you feel, surrounded by Republicans where I live--including many family members and friends. My blood pressure probably soars daily and I definitely feel stressed. I would wish for the election to be over except I'm deathly afraid that many of the 47% of Americans for whom Romney feels contempt will actually vote for this man simply because of the social hot buttons he knows how to push. I live in the Bible Belt, and these people are more gullible to GOP propaganda than most.

Your statements, "I will not live long enough to understand why people back unfairness, inequality, greed, pollution, manipulation, and zealots with astronomical amounts of cash to throw into the political arenas. I think I am a reasonable man and the agendas in front of me don’t seem to make sense," fit me perfectly if you substitute "woman" for "man."

Like you, I feel as though my head might blow off my shoulders any day now. I try to stay out of political and religious arguments, but it is difficult without being totally reclusive. Good luck to us both and may the USA survive the present insanity!
