Real People, Real Blood and Tears, Ordained Responsibility. by Merwin
When I read the (pictured) memorial that the above, link/address should take you to, I was impacted with the flesh and blood reality of this man's struggle. I know, that it is ofttimes difficult to think of any of the previous generations as "in the flesh" people. The way they wrote and expressed themselves was very unfamiliar and formal sounding. And then, years after the their lives had passed, the hero propagandists glorify them and made them larger than life.
What turned my thoughts around and prompted this writing, was the last sentence on the pictured memorial... "His home is 150 yds. W." It reminded me that many of these flesh and blood families suffered within sight of their own doorways.
This is not uncommon to mankind... having to struggle and die for the betterment of their families and their fellows. To cast off the chains of the oppressors that would enslave your children, so that your dear ones may be able to breath deep the Spirit of God in freedom.
And while this country has a long way to go to make right, old and new wrongs that its guilty of, slavery, oppression of the Native Americans (still ongoing), our willingness to follow our various Commander in Chiefs on whatever murderous campaigns... without Congress declaring war, righting wrongs is an ideal worth pursuing.
As Christians we should understand what is meant in...
1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefor resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
It basically means that our government... "Of the People, by the People and, for the People..." was ordained of God. In this country... God ordained that "the people" rule the representatives. And that, we should not resist His ordaining us to do so.
We should all take stock of these facts, as we, all of us... Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Atheists, may have to fight and die for our liberties within sight of our own doorways.
