Romney or Obama

Obama or Romney: you decide
Obama or Romney: you decide

A Walk to Remember:

Election 2012; American Idol on steroids or does participating in this 224 year old tradition remain politically relevant? Does the sacrifice of our founders wane? In our young country, our founders battled the tyrants of Royalty; lost life and limb against brethren of a powerful empire, and fought frontier wars against nomadic tribes with superior fighting skills. Backwoodsmen repelled the French, chased off the Spanish and invaded Mexico. Our families killed one another for moral good, our families died because inequity. The beaches of Normandy accepted our dead on behalf of others. Humid jungles stifled our armies, hid our enemies and spun tales of horror across shinning seas. Let us not forget brave men laid upon torture tables, abused, broken and terrorized for years. The sacrifice is profound.

Our American nation has grown up, yet her bosom hasn’t always welcomed everyone, but, eventually, many have found a home and a dream to pursue. Some say our history is only a violent means to an imperialistic ends. Some say America is no longer worth fighting for, we’ve lost our way. We are a nation of racists, xenophobes, bigoted homophobes and prolific killers of the environment. Certainly if we were truly believed to be all these things, then one would think we wouldn’t need immigration laws, because, after all, who would want to emigrate here? Hyperbole has little place grounded in reality.

The Next Steps:

Americans have much thinking to do in the next few months. Young, old, families and singles need to evaluate their value system, what they want to accomplish with their life and decide which candidate will most likely assist with achieving those means. Some are proclaiming no visible difference between Romney or Obama. Some are even joking Romney should run as Obamas vice presidential candidate. Times like these I wish the stupid were not allowed to vote.

There are legitimate gripes on both sides of the isle; moreover, there are outlandish, idiotic and completely baseless prognostications to boot. A Romney era will not usher in the second coming of Joseph Smith no more than another 4 years of Obama will usher in concentration camps for Christians. What isn’t a joke are our flirtations with collectivist policies and failed European ideologies. Any socialist policy to have existed and practiced is available to study via Cuba, China, Germany, Russia, France, Sweden, Venezuela and dozens of more countries which America has zero business emulating—Period.

Individualism and the right to lawfully practice seeking betterment are not tenets of confining legislation, punitive lifestyle taxes or societal castigation for personal success. American’s are no longer politely hiding their severe discomfort with differing value systems. Progressive terminology is being hijacked to favor rabid ideologues overturning all traditions they hate. The individual is being punished for failing to recognize behaviors counterintuitive to a high functioning society. The individual is losing the war for autonomy, use of creative license and the right to decide what is good for self. People, we haven’t lost—yet.

The Great Conflict:

Not only do we not possess such an all-inclusive scale of values: it would be impossible for any mind to comprehend the infinite variety of different needs of different people which compete for the available resources and to attach a definite weight to each. For our problem it is of minor importance whether the ends for which any person cares comprehend only his own individual needs, or whether they include the needs of his closer or even those of his more distant fellows—that is, whether he is egoistic or altruistic in the ordinary senses of these words. Whether his interests center round his own physical needs, or whether he takes a warm interest in the welfare of every human being he knows, the ends about which he can be concerned will always be only an infinitesimal fraction of the needs of all men.

This is the fundamental fact on which the whole philosophy of individualism is based. It does not assume, as is often asserted, that man is egoistic or selfish or ought to be. It merely starts from the indisputable fact that the limits of our powers of imagination make it impossible to include in our scale of values more than a sector of the needs of the whole society, and that, since, strictly speaking, scales of value can exist only in individual minds.” F. A. Hayek –The Road to Serfdom

Someone I respect and debate with from an Eastern country said the words of F.A. Hayek were outmoded, designed only based on the parameters for the time they were written; the 1940’s to be exact. A time when Britain was turning from parliamentary democracy to take up centralized planning strategies. A time when America was becoming enamored with socialist policies, tiring of the roller coaster ride of capitalism. In his book the Road to Serfdom, Hayek offers a very sober view from behind rose colored glasses of totalitarian expansion, and how it manifests itself incrementally through the reduction of choices and concentrating power. Furthermore it was stipulated in our conversation how it is possible to tax a country to prosperity. When we gaze upon the embarrassment California has become, and it’s only remedy has been increased taxation, an opposite conclusion is fairly clear.

The Call:

If we stay the course under Obama, thus rewarding him with another 4 years of pandering, conceding and mocking, we as a nation are sure to become weak. America, we cannot afford to take our eyes off of Russia, Iran, China, Venezuela, North Korea and Israel. We are hurting, we are failing, but we have the technology, we have the ingenuity, the drive, the passion, grace, competitive spirit and a bloody right to fight for continued freedom. Let us remove our liberties from the auction block, take back our national pride and create a renewed path to prosperity that lifts ALL of our citizens up. Let us not accept defeat and manage inevitable decline, NO! How does the number one competitor on the planet turn from success? BOWING TO OTHER NATIONS. America, if you wish to continue the bowing, then you vote for Barak Obama. If you want a turn-around agent, an economic guru and a man who knows how to bring luster back to the rust-belt, then you join me in putting Mitt Romney in the White House.

Which path should America take?

This is as good as it gets if we re-elect Obama.

Hi Dave, thanks for the comment. I happen to disagree; it is only too late to make a change when we’re dead. California, Chicago, New York and D.C. is going to drag the country down if we don’t all pull our heads out of the sand and out of our *ss.

Hey Jason, I agree with most of what you wrote here, and I agree at this point Romney is the best choice for us now.Im really concerned about the attitude of our nation and our people who CLAIM to be conservatives, they say they dislike their choices so much they are just going to vote for President Obama just so he runs us off the cliff instead of a republican (SO WE CAN BLAME A DEM) ARE you people out of your ever lovin minds! HOW STUPID. So I agree please dont let stupid people vote. On the other hand I believe Romney is like Pres Obama in many ways and I have some serious concerns about his ideas on tax reform hes already putting out there. We are well on our way to total irrelivance in the world, and no doubt another 4 years of This administration and we wont matter

Thanks for you time God Bless you and God bless America.

Sorry, Jason, but I voted for the Global Community, not that I want that, but as a warning to others of what might be ontrack for America...eventually. With the problems of poverty, population, environment, economics, Etc., becoming almost overwhelming, the world will eventually have no choice. The important thing: The world will need a leader, and, much as I hate to say it about an American President, under Obama, that leader will not be America.

Thank you for a great hub, as usual.

Jason, struggle as I do, continually, to be hopeful and strong, I admit there are times that I nearly fold into a ball of concession. I know, this is what THEY'RE hoping for....this is their goal.

So...stand tall we must, fight hard and NEVER give up moving toward what is right and just, moral and TRULY American. There is always choice! There has to be.

Thank you for this. UP ++

Jason, this is well-written and sensible. But if your words do not convince those who still believe Obama is their choice, then they should just look again at him bowing and scraping to the leaders of other countries. Disgraceful!

@ Dino, hey Dean, do not fret about what similarities you may see in Mitt Romney. Romney is shrewd, calculating and the opposite of Obama in all the ways that count, i.e. he doesn’t have a laundry list of friends and mentors who hate America, are former terrorists and want to disenfranchise America and sell it off Chicago style. Keep praying for wisdom and peace Dean. God Bless.

@ James, I understand why you voted the way you did on the poll, I really do. It behooves us American’s to involve ourselves with conversation outside our country. We need to pay attention to the machinations of a global society waiting to descend upon America and chop us up. There is a purpose for this country, there is a reason why we are unique, we used to not cave into to pacifists and socialist tendencies. The entire world forgets HOW MUCH BLOOD OUR SOLDIERS SHED ONLY TO NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING IN RETURN ACCEPT ENOUGH DIRT TO BURY OUR DEAD! That is American Exceptionalism! Don’t forget it James, give thanks for it, I do, God Bless friend.

@ fpherj48, me too, I really do, and when I struggle, I remember the sacrifice. If we let this country go to the European style of managing, our dead veterans deserve the right to haunt us all for eternity. We can turn it back, we have to make changes in our own party, we have to clean our own houses and throw the corrupt and wicked into the sewer where they belong. Boy am I fired UP! I am selfish, I want my daughter to experience a good life, I want her to have a family raised in an American country with Christian values and neighborly acts. I am a dreamer, but the dream is good.

@ Drbj, thank you so much for the compliment. We have to bring forth everything this president has done to lower the status of this country. We need to write, shout, sing, display and argue what these past 3 years have done, and how much worse off our rule of law is. We have to expose the lies, the backroom deals and the corruption, the Billions gone at GM because of the Volt, Solyndra, and now the GSA. This president has lied from day one “There will be no Lobbyist at my White House,” really? Mr. President, your pants are on fire…

Excellent ideas and presentation of what is at stake in 2012! Love the ideas you presented on the individual, F. A. Hayek is brilliant!

" The individual is being punished for failing to recognize behaviors counterintuitive to a high functioning society. The individual is losing the war for autonomy, use of creative license and the right to decide what is good for self. People, we haven’t lost—yet."

Our Constitution established a nation of limited government and self-rule! If you want a group of supposedly enlightened experts treating you like a child then vote for Obama. They may be telling you what to do for your own good but their still telling you what to do!

If you want to take on the challenge and responsibility of making your own decisions, even if those decisions which cause you pain, then vote for Romney. If you think the founders vision for America should be the vision for today, vote for Romney!

But if you believe we need an enlightened group of elite experts to run our lives vote for Obama! If you believe we should have a government where we are ruled by our bettors, then you see the vast majority of governments that have ruled throughout history as being preferred over The American system of self-role! If you believe this Obama is your man!

Hello, Jason,

This is a useful, awesome, beautiful and very interesting hub. In fact, it is one of the best political hubs I have ever read on HubPages, if not THE best one.

Additionally, what you wrote would serve as an excellent speech for Mitt Romney to deliver at the Republican Convention.

Feenix, I warmly thank you for your impactful compliment, I have found influence among many here, including yourself. I hope someone from the Romney Campaign does see this and relay it up the flag pole, even if only at a district level. Thank you so much, God Bless.

These are superb hubs. You are quite a brilliant young man and know how to inspire (fire-up) your readers.

All that you have said, I know in my heart is what solid Americans believe....and agree with. It's important though, that we DO wake up and FIRE up.....so you're hubs are powerful and I personally thank you for your wisdom and spirit...What we need is Politicians like YOU....

You really should send all 3 of these to Romney Headquarters.......... Don't stop now.

Whoa, Paula, I am going to need a wider hub picture to fit my head in after that compliment. I have to lead my age group to a place of reverence for what we have and all we should be thankful for. Who knows what the future will hold, my aim is to make sure we still have one. We cannot let the efforts of our service men and women die with this country, the global community doesn’t give a ruble about their sacrifice, but we should. Thanks for the awesome compliments Paula. God Bless.

Hi Will, sorry, I didn’t mean or intend to snub you, I completely overlooked my replies. Thank you for the terrific comments as I see you appear to be in near complete agreement with me. I would submit this question; is it not good that we have elites on our side, do not need as many purveyors of wisdom on our side to counteract the lefts demagoguery? Or, is the fact that we need not point our studious members, being we do not emphasize celebrity status for owning common sense. (ooh, that one’s going to get me in to trouble) Thank you Will, thank you for your support and following so many of my hubs.

I justed wanted you to know that I commented and to make sure feenix gets no preferential treatment because that would be an insult to him!(lol)

Let me put it this way, smart poeple are just as likely to believe dumb things as anyone else and maybe more so because thier being an expert in one area makes them think thier experts in all areas.

That being said, conservatives have no lack of intellectual heavy weights!

Hi Will, that is a pretty funny comment regarding feenix given both he and I know exactly what you mean. Next time I will snub him to even you two out...lol. Chris Christie fits both bills, come to think about it so does Newt and Rush, we have our bases covered...completely. Thanks again sir.

The fact is that WE have allowed America to become what it has. The past 30 years or so of the "me" attitude. The greed, the self centered mentalty of the "yuppie" era has spawned us. We are a nation of American Idol and stupid mindless Hollywood crap. We are no longer concerned with history, national pride, and keeping America great. Tis is side ending to a great past. At this point it doen't matter whhich one wins. The bowing of Obama or the Corporate raiding of Romney will both have the same death affect on this Nation. Niether man is to blame for where we are. We the people are to blame for allowing idiots to lead us down this road. We could have stopped it 30 years ago, but instead we fell for the line of crap and followed. After 28 years of service I have to ask is it really worth fighting for any more?
