SHOULD OBAMA GIVE BACK THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE ?
Where's the Peace?
In anticipation of the great peace that liberals were sure would descend over the world the minute Obama was inaugurated, the Nobel Committee awarded Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize. This before he’d had a chance to bring the peace.
President Obama has been in office now for two years and the entire Middle East is in chaos. It’s not peaceful in fact it’s much worse.
The Afghanistan war rages on and Obama’s promise to end it has not materialized.
Tunisians began a revolt in December 2010 and it continues today. The managed to oust President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who fled the country to Arabia in January but unrest continues over their distress from unemployment, inflation and lack of freedoms. There have been untold deaths due to police action against the demonstrators.
In January demonstrator began to march in Cairo and clashed violently with supporters of Hosni Mubarak. Inspired by the overthrow of the Tunisian president, Egyptians demanded Mubarak step down and on February 11th he resigned.
Thousands of citizens were injured and at least 365 were killed in Cairo, which resembled a war zone. The military has taken charge until elections can be held in six months, and Mubarak has left the country.
Inspired by activity in Egypt, Libya’s uprising began in February of this year and now verges on a civil war. As of March 2011 Mummar Gaddafi continues his hold on a 42 year rule and remains in control of several towns. The uprising is the bloodiest against a long-serving ruler in the Middle East or North Africa as protestors are massacred with bombs.
Britain and France are supportive of implementing a no fly zone if Gaddafi continues to bomb citizens. Obama has been silent on this subject.
Our own border is a killing zone. Illegal aliens and drugs and criminals pour across the border every day, murdering our bordering patrol agents who are defenseless with only bean bags as their ammunition.
Arizona is struggling to pass laws to protect their citizens and Obama is suing the state because of it. The President will do nothing to help Border States stop the terror and property damage those citizens live with daily.
Of course there is no need to mention Israel and the relentless attacks on that country year after year by the terrorist group Hamas. Obama's rude slight of Benjamin Netanyahu when the Prime MInister visited the White House recently was terribly unsettling.
In Madison Wisconsin we have the extraordinary display for the third week of Democrats hiding out in order to avoid voting on the Governor’s attempt to tackle their budget problems and although there has been no violence, estimates to repair the marble and clean up the filth that the protestors are creating is estimated to be in the millions.
Today the U.S. and European allies bombed Libyan air bases with over 100 cruise missiles in an attempt to stop Gaddafi from any further bombings of his own people.
President Obama said, “'Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people. And we are acting in the interests of the United States and the world.” (Drudge Report)
But in 2007 when interviewed by Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe, Obama said this, "The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation,”
As far as bipartisanship and civility there is none.
As far as peace the world is in turmoil.
So, maybe Obama should pack up his Peace Prize and send it back before they ask for it.
