Update: Enter Donald Trump

The Birther movement received much scorn from news media outlets and analysts who never saw much to the question of President Obama's lack of transparency on the matter of releasing his long form birth certificate. In 2011 billionaire Donald Trump became a vocal critic of the president and his refusal to release his birth certificate. Trump made a lot of noise and because of his celebrity and wealth was able to put enough pressure on the Obama administration to quiet the noise. President Obama released his birth certificate in April, 2011. While it appears perfectly legitimate there are those who will never be satisfied.

While for most Americans the issue of President Obama's birth has been laid to rest, the greater issue is one of transparency. No presidential candidate should be allowed to run for the highest office in the land without being willing to answer any and all questions about his or her background and citizenship; if there are questions. Not releasing his birth certificate showed a lack of respect for a large number of Americans with a desire for truth. This is unacceptable in a free country.

There has been an outcry all the way back to the campaign about Obama presenting his legal birth certificate. Many people believe he has already shown the world his birth certificate, but that is not the case. The document that was released to the media is a record of live birth but it does not have the complete information that would be present on the actual birth certificate. This might confuse some of you, but as a family historian who has researched birth and death certificates for the past thirty years I have no trouble understanding that to get the real information one must have the document, not the excerpt. I do not understand how it is possible that all his personal records such as information about his education, scholarships, grants, grades, and other personal information such as complete medical records could be withheld.

President Obama has spent a hefty sum of money for legal representation to fight the release of this information. Why? A man who claims to believe in transparency of government should make his background an open book. If he has nothing to hide why all the secrecy? I find it even more disconcerting that many of the American people do not seem bothered by this in the least. Every previous presidential candidate was forced to reveal personal and private information about themselves. It is part of the process and is not a personal reflection on this president.

Many on the left try to cloud the issue by claiming that conservative right wing nut jobs are just trying to “get” Obama. My question to you all is very simple. What are you afraid will be revealed? Are you so in love with your far left progressive philosophy that you are willing to destroy the very foundation on which this country stands? There are rules about the way anyone becomes president. NO ONE should be above this process. Who vetted this president? Who decided it was permissible to put one over on the American people? I am not saying that Obama was not born in Hawaii. I am saying that it is within his power to stop all this confusion right now. Release the documents and everything will go away.

Appearance of Wrong Doing

Most of you have heard about abstaining from even the APPEARANCE of evil! This is the same thing. President Obama has left himself wide open and presents the appearance of someone who has something to hide.

The answer to the question then is simple. As long as our political leaders are so interested in getting reelected that they are not interested in doing the job for which they were elected. Our political system is in trouble. It is inconceivable that our leaders feel that it is wrong to ask one candidate to show his or her bonafides. All candidates are required to give information about their background, their finances, and much personal information. There should be no exceptions for anyone. It is not humorous or laughable. The only people laughing are the political elite class inside the beltway. Mocking people who only want to know the truth is wrong.

American's Right To Know

Does the average American have the right to know about their elected officials personal lives?

  • Yes
  • No
  • No, it is not important.
  • Yes, personal information speaks to character.
See results without voting

Many Questions

Are the American people entitled to see the birth certificate of any candidate for public office? Is this a foolish question? Is it possible that the average person's opinion no longer matters in this country? Do leaders in Congress have a right to change the course of this nation in spite of public opinion? In 2013 Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid led the Senate in conjunction with President Obama to implement the Affordable Health Care Act also known as Obamacare. At the time of this writing disastrous consequences are taking place in health care for middle class Americans. The entire fiasco was blamed on the Republicans in congress in spite of the fact that we now see disastrous things happening? Where does all this end? There seem to be no answers to these questions.

Pak, I am not sure if you are joking or not but if you believe the media is honest and truthful you are deluded or living in outer space. Sorry to be so blunt but anyone with the least intelligence knows that the media is biased and slants stories according to their personal position.

Our President is a decent cairng man. When I first saw him as a keynote speaker forKerry Democratic Convention I called a friend of mine in Chicago who was not home at the time left a message Who is that Barack Obama! I was impressed then, volunteered for his campaign in 2008 (my first campaign at the age of 55) and have been an avid follower since then. God Bless our President & his commitment to our country.

Pak 3 years ago

Friday that she and the registrar of vital stsctaiits have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate". So, a Democratic appointee has made a public statement (not, however, a sworn statement )that the document exists, although not what information is on it. Of course it's true, our media would never stand for any subtrifuge. Source of truth, justice, and the American way, the lads and lasses at CBS and NBC are. I viewed the "Born in Kenya" business as lame ultra right looney stuff when I first heard it, but there must be something interesting on it if he wouldn't willingly wave it and score points against the right by making them look foolish. Given the hardcorp (pun) middle-america hating communist grandparents and Momma's colorful track record at a suprisingly early age, one can only wonder. Might Daddy really be Cletus Jackson, the greasemonkey at the local gas station?

What a great debate! I am an independent who actually finds Mr Obama's extreme secrecy quite interesting. I think we will be amazed at all the hidden skeletons in his closet. Anyone that goes to such expense to prevent people from knowing anything about him definately has something to hide.

How has he been able to get elected without going through the same vetting process as every other candidate did? Can you folks say Bildeberg Group? They have had their dirty hands in our politics for decades. Google them if you don't know who they are.

Larry, You da man! I think you should tell us how you really feel. Almost every article I write is against him, I happen to LOVE this country.

I really want to know what his grades were in high school, college and law school. Everyone else has let these things be known. He can tell us how much money he has made, but not his grades. How about his SAT score? Oh hell, I just HATE him.

Larry Croft 7 years ago

I would only have been concerned about a convincing birth certificate until I learned Mr. Obama is withholding several other documents. Now, even though our Constitution only requires natural citizenship for our presidents, I have to wonder if he has a lot to hide.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am an extreme conservative republican who has only contempt for Mr. Obama's vision. Readers should consider my comment as suspect even though I do comment in good faith.

I was informed last night (by a family friend that worked on the Hillary campaign) that if one is brn out-side of the US, both parents MUST be citizen's. Obama's father (who may have had another wife in Kenya, that would make Barack a bastard) was never a US citizen.

She said she has proof Obama stole at least one primary, I will have to see proof. If I get it, I will forward.

Why does this birth certificate look different from the ones I know. Where is the original. This is a recent printed one, but they say it is signed and stamped by the officials from Hawaii, so it does appear legal, but it looks suspicious, and the real original has not been produced.

The point is here-There has been no proof given as to where this President was born. The issue is: Unless you are a native born American Citizen, by the constitutional laws set forth when it was created, you have no right to be in office. It is appalling to many of us that we elected an official to our government at such a high rank and he continues to literally hide all of his records. And his birth state is very important. There is no proof given which has been valid from Hawaii...I have been following this issue for months now. May I give you all a link to read for much further information on this subject before you start slamming my view on this. There is no birth certificate. He is hiding his school records, his activity records....there is no clear proof of anything except somehow he got elected to the office of President of our United States of America and has continually spent more money than we could ever afford to have in the first place. Where IS his birth certificate????? WHY doesn't he just show it to us instead of spending thousands of dollars to keep us, the people of the United States of America not knowing who he really is OR where he really came from??

Here is a link and I suggest you go through it thoroughly as there are many many issues here with this birth certificate...many articles, many proof, and too many denials.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=1...

As far as putting me into any category---I am American Born and I want an American Born President who is familiar with our land Our freedoms, and does not mint money or make programs to put us further in debt. These are my views.

I certainly didn't intend to imply that "all conservatives" are Birthers or supporters of the Birther movement. I'm sure it's a tiny minority of conservatives who are involved in any way. I can think of several conservatives for whom I have great respect. Richard Lugar comes immediately to mind. Ditto Senator Grassley. Both are willing to work with Democrats to produce legislation that serves the public interest (and the corn farmers!). Looking backward in history the Senator Norris from Nebraska and Vandenberg from Michigan are examples of conservatives with the highest integrity and willingness to serve the public interest even when they faced opposition in their own party. Extreme partisans can be found in the Democratic Party as well as those who put the public interest ahead of strict party line positions.

Smireles profile image

Smireles 7 years ago from Texas Author

Ralph, thank you for clarifying your position. I do not support the birthers or their efforts at keeping this issue alive. I do not support using underhanded methods for any reason. But it is dishonest to imply that all conservatives are a part of this movement. They are not. I do believe there are some questions about President Obama's transparency in releasing other records and I believe these are legitimate questions. As I stated earlier my interest in this topic is casual at best but I thank you for your participation. I believe everyone has a right to have a voice in this discussion.

Ralph Deeds profile image

Ralph Deeds 7 years ago

Smireles my reference to "whackjobs" was not directed at you, but rather at the Birthers who are an ignorant or badly motivated, fringe group in my opinion. My comments were not directed toward you your hub.

Here's an example of the kind of dishonest political tactics that is going on.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/05/us/politics/05ch...

A trade group representing coal producers and power companies says that it indirectly hired a lobbying firm that sent fake letters to lawmakers purporting to be from nonprofit groups opposed to climate-change legislation.

I don't know whether the Birthers are sincere or stirring up the issue for political reasons. Possibly some are sincere but inclined toward fringe conspiracy theories and legends and others are politically motivated. I don't have much patience for either group.

Your apology is accepted. This topic is not one in which I have a lot of interest. As I stated in an earlier comment I wrote it in response to a question from another hubber. I realize that there are many extreme views but feel compelled to point out that they are not ALL on the right.

I do not make a secret that I am not an Obama supporter, BUT he is my president and I do not want to hear lies printed about him. However, I do not think that I am an idiot because I do not agree with everything he says or every position the President holds.

I think that you may be right about the birther issue, but I have heard so many people try pin that accusation on all conservatives which is not true. The large majority of the Republicans and Conservatives are not pushing this issue. I appreciate your apology because truthfully I am really only interested in writing quality articles on a variety of topics.

I apologize. It did look like I was denigrating your writing skills and I didn't mean to do that. I do find the topic unworthy and am personally tired of all the extremist political hubs here at HP, but you're right, extreme views aren't any less deserving of publication than more moderate ones.

Some balance would be welcome though right about now.

This birther issue is one of those kinds of issues that isn't even about the thing it pretends to be about, it's just a way to smear a perfectly good man and I do find it all pretty offensive, but it's a free country so, yes, you have a right to say what you will about it.

While you may not be interested in this topic there are many people who are very interested in getting a real point of view and not more propaganda. It should be possible to have a real discussion of the issues and not waste time insulting people. Care to make a coherent comment any of you instead of just throwing up regurgitated Rockefeller/Murdoch media spew?

Perhaps you would like to prove me wrong Mr Deeds instead of being rude and ignorant at the same time!!??

Or is it that you think the likes of The Clintons, The Bushes and Mr Obama actually care for the interests of the American people? Especially whilst they are having their homes stolen from them. I only say this because the same evil actions are being perpetrated by thieving bankster scum here in Britain too.

“The government should create, issue, and circulate all the currency. Creating and issuing money is the supreme prerogative of government and its greatest creative opportunity.

Adopting these principles will save the tax payers immense sums of interest and money will cease to be the master and become the servant of humanity.”

Abraham Lincoln.

“Who controls money controls the world.”

Henry Kissinger - Council on Foreign Relations

“The real menace of our republic is the invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy length over city, state and nation. Like the octopus of real life, it operates undercover of a self created screen. At the head of octopus are the Rockefeller Standard Oil interests and a small group of powerful banking houses generally referred to as international bankers. The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually runs the US government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both political parties”

New York City Mayor John F. Hylan – 1922

“If you want to make someone angry tell him a lie; if you want to make him furious, tell him the truth. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed, and third it is accepted as self-evident.”

Hello Smirles and the dear deluded American people on this thread.

Here is why you have a Kenyan (Canaanite) and not an American citizen for your 'president'.

Once you understand that the United States and the United States of America are two different things, then you will begin to understand what's going on.

The United States is a corporation, so its real name is United States Inc. The United States of America is the nation. That's why there is a gold fringed flag i.e the flag of the corporation. Your 'president' is only president of the corporation, he's not the President of the United States of America. This too is how they have gotten away with choosing a foreigner to be your 'president.' You will probably discover there is no law against this.

If the American people united under their Republic and elected a state representative for a Government of the Republic all the corporate clowns and scum bankster stooges that now govern you would have to stand down. Your congress and senate would then be dissolved and you would then have a true government of the people and for the people.

Naturally this new government would need to take back control of The Fed and kick the foreign owners out. Which is what Lincoln and Kennedy were going to do and both died for it.

And all this from your English brother across the pond. I wish you all well for we have the same problems here. The UK Corporation Limited is the same.

Your new government would also need to cleanse New York and your country of that cesspit and latrine hole known as The UN and without any delay.

PS Both corporations i.e. US and UK are in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy hence we all carry IOU's in our wallets. The only money is debt money and you cannot pay debt with debt - think about it.

#2 The "Birthers" are the ones who are prolonging the issue, not Obama. I'm sure he'd be happy to see it go away although a few Republicans have made fools of themselves over it. Perhaps it's good politics for the Dems.

I would suggest to you that a couple of hours of investigation into who they are might enlighten you on their accuracy and , above all, honesty.

Good day sir.

P.S. I almost forgot to mention that I don't buy this story either.Looks like a classic distraction tactic which is why Obama is prolonging it.

I have to agree with Ralph it has already been proven he was born in Hawaii. I also agree with Shark its a political move by Obama to keep it going for as long as possible, but I don't know what mainstream Republican is making it an issue. That seems to be the liberal bash against the "birthers" just another attempt to portray all Republicans as kooks!

Ghost32 7 years ago

Hm. Ralph, I'm glad it's clear to you that our President was born in Honolulu. You've got the photography credentials, and I don't doubt them for a second.

On the other hand, I do doubt than any of us out here in civilian-land could possibly know for really-truly-sure one way or the other. If people packing the power, i.e. folks who can hire the best forgers in the business, choose to cover something up, it's going to get covered pretty deeply. Likewise, if those same people (at either end of the political spectrum) want to unearth ugly secrets, those secrets are likely to get unearthed. I seriously doubt any of us "out here in the real world" will EVER know for SURE regarding Obama's birth certificate...who killed JFK...whether or not we really went to the moon...or whether O.J. Simpson was guilty as sin or simply monumentally stupid in setting himself up as the perfect patsy.

For that reason, I've not (until now) even read one of these "is it real or not" Hubs about President Obama's place of birth.

But I do have to smile at your use of the term "whackjob". Let's see...John Adams was known as "Mad Dog Adams" and also known to be a severe hypochondriac (who inexplicably lived to a ripe old age anyway)...Ulysses S. Grant was a raging alcoholic...George Armstrong Custer was a megalomaniac who listened to no one with a brain...we don't even want to think about the perversions of Edgar J. Hoover...yup. Looks like much if not most of this country was BUILT by certifiable "whackjobs". Perhaps we can find political balance in these United States of America in the (future) 3rd party proudly known as WOA! (That would be: Whackjobs Of America, and their symbol could be a cowboy pulling back on the reins of a runaway horse charging blindly off of a 300 foot cliff.)

All right, enough of my (as you might well put it, Ralph) crapola! Drivel! In all seriousness, I do hope that our current leadership's policies do not drown us completely as a nation. My late father used to refer to throwing good money after bad as "Pounding sand down a rathole," and I have to admit the exploding national debt feels pretty sandy right now.

In summary: I don't really care whether President Obama's birth certificate is valid or not in that I can't do anything about it one way or the other, anyway. But I do very much care about the precedent being set--a horrifying "President Precedent?"--in which we see for the first time a holder of our nation's highest office preaching transparency while successfully practicing opacity.

In the long run, it's not even about Obama. It could be about ANY elected leader. Suppose our next Political Rock Star turns out to be a right winger (apologies in advance to y'all for what I'm about to say)...a right winger who manages to keep the lid on just a few key facts...such as the truth that in his alter ego he's a raging pedophile serial killer with a nuclear bomb fetish.

Impossible? Ridiculous? Drivel? Whacko? Nutso? Let's hope so. Because the Fear of the Unknown, the possibilities of what might be hiding under ANYBODY'S blanket of secrecy, can unhinge the best of us.

Unless, of course, we "do the ostrich" and stick our heads in the sand. In that case, we serve our Ultimate Purpose as Lunch for the Lion.

Well, it's not clear that Obama was born in Hawaii. I have to say that I have no trouble proving where I was born. I simply go to the city hall pluck down $15. and they go the archive and pull out the record and produce a new one.

This has been a controversy since the campiagn, I don't understand why Obama didn't put it to rest at that time.

Instead they tried to muddy the waters bt claiming McCain wasn't an American because he was born in Panama---how stupid are the liberals, progressives or whatever they are calling themselves these days. McCain was born on a US Naval base, his father was the Commander of the Pacific fleet. Did anyone notice the name of the ship that was sent to track that no korena ship?? It's named the USS McCain after his father. So instead of clouding the issue with side show material why doesn't Obama just get the origonal and be done with it.

One reason is he likes the side show, it keeps people's attention on the liberal shows like Chris Mathews talking about this issue and mean spirited republicans rather than talking about health take over.

Mighty Mom, I do not know the position of Rush Limbaugh, but I heard Ann Coulter and Mike Huckaby on Fox (I forget which program) say that there was no merit to the case. Both of them were in agreement and were very dismissive of the topic.

We are wasting our time on these guys! I've yet to see one change their mind on anything. Facts don't impress them.

If Ms. Coulter and Mr. Limbaugh declare a subject unworthy, it's beyond unworthy. Give it a rest. There's plenty these Birthers can get excited about in the present. Why try to rewrite past history? Silly. I also saw Dr. Orly Taitz on The Colbert Report. Ralph, your assessment is too kind! MM

If my memory serves, the lawsuit by Mr. Corsi, a proven, published liar, was been thrown out of court months ago. I'll check that. Nobody with any credibility in the GOP is supporting the birthers. Yes, I like Obama and I don't like to see him attacked for no reason, called a racist and a liar by, yes, whackjobs.

Obama birth certificate lawsuit tossed out of court

By David W. Shelton | October 27, 2008 | Print This Post

The highly publicized lawsuit filed by Philip Berg against Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama and the Democratic party itself has been thrown out of court. Berg filed the lawsuit in August of this year, claiming that Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud and that Obama’s name should be removed from the ballot.

Conservative pundits have hailed the lawsuit in the past, with even popular radio show host Rush Limbaugh having opined on how Obama’s visit to his dying grandmother is related to the now-defunct lawsuit. More commonly asked is “why doesn’t Obama just show his original birth certificate? Then this will all go away.”

It will all go away? Really? If anyone really believes that, then I’ll sell you a bridge in Brooklyn for a thousand dollars. It’s cheap. At least it makes for good entertainment.

The Phildelphia Daily News reported on the dismissal today:

U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick had denied Berg’s request for a temporary restraining order on Aug. 22 but had not ruled on the merits of the suit until yesterday. Obama and the Democratic National Committee had asked Surrick to dismiss Berg’s complaint in a court filing on Sept. 24.

They said that Berg’s claims were “ridiculous” and “patently false,” that Berg had “no standing” to challenge the qualifications of a candidate for president because he had not shown the requisite harm to himself.

Surrick agreed.

In a 34-page memorandum and opinion, the judge said Berg’s allegations of harm were “too vague and too attenuated” to confer standing on him or any other voters. Surrick ruled that Berg’s attempts to use certain laws to gain standing to pursue his claim that Obama was not a natural-born citizen were “frivolous and not worthy of discussion.”

When the judge writes that a lawsuit is “frivolous and not worthy of discussion,” I think it’s time to move on. But, of course, they won’t.

My favorite claim by conservative bloggers and pundits was that the birth certificate was “photoshopped.” Well, I am happy to say that while I might not be an expert on very many things in this world, Adobe Photoshop happens to be one of them. I’ve even got the credentials to prove it. And I’ll put myself on the line by saying, “horse hockey.” The certificate number on the certificate shown on Obama’s website was redacted. That’s it.

The most popular claim is that the image is not quite perfect, and has some signs of a “halo” around some of the copy. “But there are artifacts shown around the letters. That proves it was Photoshopped!” No. It proves that it was saved as a JPEG format, which is a lossy compression — that creates artifacts around sharp edges (like around type) when saved in a medium-to-low quality compression.

Look, I don’t care if you think the scan of Obama’s birth certificate was edited, but for crying out loud, don’t try to kid me with the notion that you know what a photoshopped image looks like. You’ll only embarrass yourself. If that particular document was edited on June 12th, then great. It’s called “crop.” A standard feature in Photoshop. Nice try.

Now, if this image from Obama’s website was the only image on the Web, I’d be concerned. As luck would have it, it’s not. Newsweek’s website posted photos that were taken for the factcheck.org site, which presents the document in various angles, and show the embossed seal (which is required on all official documents). Oh, by the way — they’re not “photoshopped” either.

Berg himself had been traveling the circuit, and declared to right-wingnut Michael Savage that Obama’s failing to file response to his ridiculous (as presiding Judge Surrick called it) was an admission of guilt. No, Mr. Berg. Your assertions were ludicrous, and the Obama lawyers knew it.

Berg has said he would appeal the decision, but really – when even the right-wing WorldNet Daily website has determined that the certificate is genuine, isn’t it time to move on? Apparently Berg and fellow nutjob Jerome Corsi don’t think so. Corsi is best known for his anti-Kerry attack book, Unfit for Command and the equally-discredited The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality, which met with a stinging, 40-page rebuttal from Senator Obama’s website.

Conservatives should be extremely leery of Corsi and his extremist rants. He’s even brought his verbal cannons against King George himself, claiming that President Bush is working to create a “North American Union,” which would eventually eliminate the sovereignty of the United States.

President Bush intends to abrogate U.S. sovereignty to the North American Union, a new economic and political entity which the President is quietly forming, much as the European Union has formed.

Corsi is clearly not satisfied with blasting away at Democrats and liberals, so he goes after every single witch hunt imaginable. Not only are his conclusions highly questionable, his facts are often just dead wrong. I don’t think I’m going out on a stretch by saying “he’s a nut.” Apparently conservative writer John Hawkins said the same thing. Well, his word was “kooky.” If we add “creepy,” we’d have the first stanza of the Addams Family theme song. I’ll bring the snaps.

And this is one of the leading voices in the “Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud” nonsense. Maybe we’ll get a grip and realize just how silly all of this has been. The birth certificate/citizenship brouhaha has been little more than a mad-dash attempt to discredit Obama since they have little else to run on. Well, that and unlicensed plumbers.

The fact is that Obama’s birth certificate is genuine, and he is a natural-born citizen of the United States of America.

UPDATE: It seems that this particluar issue is getting sillier by the minute. Read more here.

Ralph - anybody who disagrees with you is a "fringe whackjob" it seems. What about the FACT that two judges, one in NJ and one in SoCal. have, based on the evidence, agreed to hear the case to sort out this issue? Obviously it does need some sorting out - because no judge would put his political career on the line like this if it didn't have some validity. I don't like Obama, so I want to see if this issue stands. You like Obama, so you're not even willing to see if he has the rule of law on his side. And that's what this all comes down to - the rule of law. Because without that, we, as a country have nothing but anarchy, and only the rule of a bunch of greedy despots. Sorry, I don't want to go there.

I've just been watching Dr. Orly Taitz a birther movement leader from Tel Aviv on MSNBC. She is a nutcase if I ever saw one. Madam X and The Texan, I'm surprised you would want to associate yourselves with these fringe whackjob individuals and express skepticism over network news reports on something that was settled last year before the election.

The Republican governor of Hawaii has verified his birth there according to a comment just now on CNN.

Texan, you don't like Snopes, what about FactCheck.org?

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_th...

n June, the Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate to quell speculative charges that he might not be a natural-born citizen. But the image prompted more blog-based skepticism about the document's authenticity. And recently, author Jerome Corsi, whose book attacks Obama, said in a TV interview that the birth certificate the campaign has is "fake."

We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

Update, Nov. 1: The director of Hawaii’s Department of Health confirmed Oct. 31 that Obama was born in Honolulu.

Ralph you should never bring up snopes to prove anything, they are backed by organizations that have had the messiah sit on their boards, just no longer credible. I believe he was born in Hawaii so this should be a non issue, unless he was born in Hawaii in 1958? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

TV newsmen - well there's an authoritative source!

I have heard TV newsmen say that he has already shown his birth certificate, and that there are contemporaneous Hawaii newspaper articles noting his birth there. The birthers are fringe lunatic characters as even Limbaugh and Coulter have acknowledged. Or they know better but think they are gaining some political advantage by stirring the pot on this conspiracy theory.

It would be so simple to just show the birth certificate and move on. Why doesn't he?

If the right wingers ever give up mountains out of molehills we can begin tackling the real issues like health care, education, peace and prosperity.

To be honest my interest in this topic is very casual. Even such right wing conservatives as Ann Coulter and Mike Huckabee feel there is no merit to the discussion. They have a point. If Hillary Clinton had thought there was an issue during the campaigne it would have been all over the news. I also believe we should listen to both sides before making judgements.

I am not sure about all this hoopla about the birth certificate, but I can tell you the link that Ralph Deeds provided in the first comment contradicts itself. Read very carefully. It brings up questions to cloud what is very simple, such as whether or not one has to be a resident of the United States for 14 consecutive years or cumulative. The answer: one thing I do remember well from school is that they have to be consecutive. Eyes open, brain turned on, listen to both sides, investigate - and then make your own judgment.

I am not one to care about the authenticity since I have no power to challenge the birth certificate, so why waste time? I do question Obama's motives but I am also not jumping the gun every time he makes a bad decision.

It's too easy to let rhetoric rule over your opinion and wash over the good things he has done.
