BP Oil Spill - Mississippi Doctor Ben Marble speaks out
Dr Ben Marble interview Part 1
Please introduce yourself to my readers.
My name is Ben Marble. I have a bachelors degree in Biomedical Science with minors in Chemistry and Psychology. I later received my M.D. and I am currently the Emergency Room director/board member at Hancock Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, Ms. I am on the Mississippi Coastal Trauma board which co-ordinates trauma care for Mississippi's 3 coastal counties.
I have also had quite a bit of success with my modern rock musical project aka dR. O where I am the lead vocalist/guitarist/primary songwriter! Due to us having 26 #1 songs on MP3.COM with listeners in over 100 countries, YAHOO.COM hailed dR. O as the SUPERGROUP OF CYBERSPACE!
I've played some cool gigs at places like the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles, CBGB's in NYC, the United Nations, Masquerades in Atlanta, the September 0911 concert in NYC, CPR fest in Biloxi, Pensacola Springfest, etc. I even got to play the "Go F**k Yourself Mr. Cheney" song in front of the White House on 09/11/07.

I like to invent things in my spare time and I have a patent pending for my "Secure" IV catheter. It is the first IV catheter to have adhesive built into the catheter resulting in far less 'lost iv's' translating into saved lives! I have also invented a 'Liver Protector'(seat belt attachment), a one person diaper changer, and am currently being funded to create a revolutionary new type of patient charting system which I conceptualized. It will free up doctors and nurses time to actually spend taking care of patients (instead of being stuck behind a computer typing a novel for a 'chart').
I am also a surfer, political pundit/activist, artist/painter, computer geek, tennis player, fisherman, videographer, indie film maker, and creator/owner of over 25 websites. My site hurricanekatrinasucked.com has received over 5 million visits.
I believe the almighty dollar-Big Business influence combined with a corrupt & dysfunctional DUOPOLY is destroying our country!
As for religion, I conceptualized what I call the lowest common denominator "GOD" with my 'Universal Theory of GOD' i.e. whatever great unknown thing, spirit, or process it was that led to everything that exists should be known as "GOD". It is important to note that this theory applies to ALL humans (atheists, scientists, Jews, Islamics, Christians, Buddhists, etc.) so if you believe you exist then you are a believer! It is also important to note that "GOD" gave us REALITY not a BOOK because we all know that all books are written by HUMANS (so quit telling me all about "GODS word" in that book NOT written by GOD!) This ideology is the essence of the world's first reality based religion aka REALIGION!
Last but not least I am the guy who on 09/08/05 said "Go F**k Yourself Mr. Cheney...Go F**k Yourself...Go F**k Yourself A**hole!" to The Dick Cheney on LIVE international television.
How has the oil spill affected your life and the area you are in?
The oil is still everywhere when you look out onto the Mississippi Sound. Every morning when I drive to work at 5:45am as the sun is coming up and I drive over Bay St. Louis bridge all you see is the oil sheen everywhere you look. It is so bad that some people have just switched to blatant 'denial' saying silly things like 'that sheen has always been there like that' or 'it's just where a boat went through'. The power of denial always amazes me. When you point out the fact that the boat that 'just went through' was only 4 feet wide and the path of the sheen is more like 40 feet wide (due to the viscosity of the oil) people start to get it.
As a doctor what can you say about the dangers of exposure to Corexit and the poisonous gases in the ocean?
All the evidence shows the Corexit is more toxic to the deep sea creatures/bottom dwelling species than those species close to shore. This is because the Corexit works by making the oil sink to the bottom. Now the Deepwater Horizon site is built on top of a downward sloping angle where the Gulf goes from a few hundred feet deep down to over 12,000 feet deep. So when they sank the oil there my bet is that most of it rolled downhill towards the center of the Gulf down where it is 12,000 feet deep. What will be the long term effects of a big blob of BP oil down in the center of the Gulf of Mexico??? Only time will tell but I'm sure it won't be good. Also as far as the potential 'worst case scenario' for what could theoretically happen that will kill people rapidly? If/when a tropical storm or hurricane blows through the area later this year if there is oil on the SURFACE and it becomes aerosolized and people merely BREATHE it in that will cause a 'chemical pneumonitis' which has a fairly high fatality rate! So just imagine as the 12+ foot high waves crash and the wind blows 50+mph those droplets will become aerosolized so the point is if you live in this area you must leave BEFORE the storm arrives!
What do you think should be done?
BP executives should be sent to prison and/or executed (I'll be happy to do it if they'll let me!)
Please say a bit about how local people are reacting.
There are basically two groups of people: those who are in blatant DENIAL and those who HATE BP! Those who are in blatant denial are inspired by Haley Barbour and his delusional kiss BP's arse 'the coast is clear' mentality! BP has paid off all the state, county, city governments, harbour masters, police, firemen, newspaper, tv,etc. So when everyone in the area works for BP now then they won't say anything bad i.e. they hide the truth. For ex. BP is paying workers to go and collect the dead fish, birds, other dead animals and remove them ASAP bc if nobody saw that dead bird then it didn't really die now did it??? Basically we our in the process of an ATTEMPTED WHITEWASH by the Obama administration in cahoots with BP now claiming 75% of the oil magically just disappeared defying the laws of physics!

Part 3 of Ben Marble M.D. interview
How bad is the damage to the wildlife and environment and do you think there is any hope for recovery?
I think the short term goal of using the Corexit to stop the large mass of oil from overwhelming the coastlines was mildy successful. So short term it could have been worse but long term there will be a debate as to whether the use of Corexit was wise. My personal belief is they should not have used it!
What is your opinion of BP and how they have handled this disaster?
it should be an interesting case study of how 'big business' is able to use it's influence via Congress,Obama, etc. to completely control 100% of all fly overs, boat access to the area, etc. i.e. how BIG BUSINESS owned by a FOREIGN NATION became the de facto government of a small section of the USA because Obama did NOT 'do the right thing'!
Your opinion of Obama and how he has dealt with this so far?
I voted for Obama but on this oil spill issue he has failed us miserably! "The Right Thing" would have been removing BP from the scene of the crime in the first few weeks after it began. Leaving them in control was Obama's biggest mistake and so since we know where the buck stops we now call the new dead zone in the Gulf "The Obamazone"!
