The Economy's Dead Cat Bounce: The Mini-Recovery Is Over

Some clear talk about where the economy is going: Down. Yeah, I know, the bulls have been riding roughshod since the DJIA hit the mid 6,000s just a few months ago, but yesterday's 250 point rout is just the beginning of the gravity-laden downslope of the biggest dead cat bounce of this generation.

Let's face it, world governments pumping untold trillions of dollars into "stimulus" packages did just that. It stimulated economic activity. Yeah, but the stimulus was similar to any other stimulus from economic to erotic... as soon as the stimulus ends, the droop begins. And what a droop, folks!

Unfortunately, there is no Viagra left in the coffers of the world governments as the USA alone is now facing a 15+ trillion dollar deficit which works out to well over $100,000 for every taxpayer in the country. Lots of luck collecting that, IRS! I'm sure that the millions of people who have faced foreclosure, credit evisceration, and blatant zillion dollar ripoffs foisted by everyone from Madoff to Uncle Sam are just sitting at home with a stack of 1,000 $100 bills just ready to hand them over to the nice people in Washington, D.C., in exchange for the pseudo-recovery that lasted a few months... and is soon going to drop us off a precipice which is going to be way worse than the one we were "allegedly saved from."

I hope you took a nice good look at the Dow Jones when it snuck up over 10,000 as it very likely is going to be the last time that anyone alive today will see that. The Obama Administration certainly inherited a gargantuan mess from that Bush bozo, but when they implemented their Marxist command economy policies the result was nothing more than putting out the fire with gasoline.

This has been an unprecedented and hitherto unimaginable spending spree with no parallels in American history. Since Inauguration Day on January 20th of this year the current President has indebted the American public more than every other Administration combined, starting with George Washington and ending up with George W. Bush.

Let's say that again:

If you add up the total amount of money every United States President from #1 to #43 spent in running up a deficit in 233 years, it is dwarfed by the amount of money that Barack Hussein Obama has spent from January 20 to Halloween of this year: not even nine and a half months.

Trick or treat? There is no treat here, only trick: The tricking of the American people into believing that this well spoken, highly educated, charismatic young President was the "Audacity of Hope" when even the book itself was mostly written by a convicted Marxist terrorist: Bill Ayers. Surprise! There's a Commie in the White House!

America you got suckered. You put a red fox in charge of the chicken coop and now all that's left is feathers. After all, it has been proven for a century now that Marxists are as successful at running an economy as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is at organizing a Bar Mitzvah. And since the American people have been duped (yes, 100% fully and unequivocally duped) into plunking a dyed in the red wool Marxist in the White House, it is to be expected. Not only expected but inevitable, as Uncle Hal has been hammering away from his HubSoapBox for over six months now.

I have always loved the United States of America and its people since I first attended freshman orientation at UCLA. That's why I am pained to see the country I adore with such conviction fall into the same old time-honored Marxist trap. A la Chavez, Obama convinced the electorate that he was a moderate, and as soon as he got into power, his red stripe came out with a vengeance.

I pray to the Good Lord that he see fit to save America and Americans from this disaster, and to spare these wonderful people the tribulations which now seem inevitable. Amen.

Amen, Hal! Excellent, concise Hub! America needs all of the prayer that it can get from anybody now! Our economy has taken a stark turn in the last year and will be remembered by this generation as my parent's generation remembered 1929. The only solutions that the executive and legislative branches of the American government can foist upon the people entails stifling taxation from now on that even the Warren Buffets and the George Soros' of this world can't afford. They, however, can take their money somewhere else in the world. The rest of us cannot perform such a feat. Is this the reason that Mr. Obama is giving noticeably fewer live press conferences in the last fortnight? Can the brooding discontent within the country be the reason that Mr. Obama shows up in the dead of night at Dover AFB and salutes a returning casket from Afghanistan in front of the cameras? After all, he and his ilk have long had a disdain for the military and the servicemen and women in uniform. Is it time to try anything to rally the people around the flag and the Commander-in-Chief? These people wrap themselves up in the opinion polls and, evidently, something is smelling obnoxiously. China and its supposedly booming economy are not leading the world out of anything as long as Americans aren't buying their products. I would suggest to the Chinese, however, to learn how to manufacture and market home canning equipment because that may be where we are headed!

Thank you very much for the kind words. Much appreciated. I couldn't agree more about thinking seriously about becoming far more self sufficient, as I have been preparing for well over a year to do just that in the ever increasing likelihood that our entire society takes a tumble. I believe we are staring down the greatest challenge to the very existence of the American Way since WWII and extremely drastic actions are called for, albeit legal, non-violent, and fully Constitutional ones.

LOL I called a top a few weeks ago, but I was too early, as usual. Let's see if you make it better :)

Misha! Dude! So it wasn't true that you had disappeared from view as you had taken over from Vyacheslav Ivankov! Dang! And I was gonna ask you to lend me few million Rubles just to tide me over until the holidays! :(

Yup. It's official. I call Thursday Oct. 29 TOP. Let's see if I was right! :)

God save the world. So many economies have had it.

I completely agree. The situation is getting far worse all over the world and not at all better as the glib governments would have liked us to believe!

This is worse than the 2012 predictions...

Hal Licino profile image

Hal Licino 7 years ago from Toronto Author

Actually no, as after 2012 there isn't supposed to be a world to have an economy in at all! :)

The End Of The World As We Know It has been recalibrated to 2020. Evidently the scientists made a few math errors.

Actually, the Dec. 21 2012 date is on the Mayan Calendar, so who am I to argue with a bunch of guys who take virgins to the top of pyramids and cut their hearts out... er... oh yeah... I forgot... I'm not a virgin...

BTW... I'm working on your requested Hub on Healthcare and I'll post it this week! Thanks!

Questions for you:

1. Have you published a hub since "Dead Cat Bounce"? In your profile under 'latest', that's the latest. I think.

2. Would you be willing to look at a couple of my hubs and suggest why one got indexed in a few hours while one hasn't yet been indexed after 4 days?

He's back! He posted another hub. Whew!

nicomp: I've been busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger. Never fear, more Hubs being posted later today! I'd be happy to check your Hubs. Any ones in particular?

jiberish: Make sure to pack your woolies. It's just getting to "crisp" weather time. Last year we experienced a lovely -30 C. I hope you like frostbite! :)

@Hal Licino: Thank you so much for your help:

This one was indexed in on hour or two and is now gone...

This one never got indexed as far as I know:

PS> Do you know if we are getting any kickback from the Microsoft Ads that are running on our Hubs?

Thanks Again,

I'll check them out and see what I can find out later today. As for MS ads, there should be no difference between them and any other AdSense placements. The payout per click figures will certainly vary (they always do, and Google never reveals them anyway) but it should make no difference whether it's a Microsoft, Dell, Intel, or Jolt Cola ad... let's not even mention GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Scientology!

I agree with what you are saying about the policies of the current administration but I believe the dead cat bounce continues until the infusion of free money into the system gets cut off. Until then, we're just inflating another economic bubble.

Great Hub, very well written! Too bad is so darn factual...and depressing. Looks like congress is ready to spend more...unbelievable.

lender3212000: The single greatest gravitational factor pulling down the deceased feline is the price of petroleum. Historians will conclude that it was the shock of $140+ a barrel which threw the kitty off the roof in the first place, and now that we are back at nearly $80, and if it the whistleblowers can be believed and the oil reserves just aren't there, we can be looking at the mid $100s or higher in the very near future. In that case, it will be a case of the meow meteor! :(

CJ: Thanks my friend. Sorry about depressing you but I profoundly believe that this spendaramathon is literally the end of not only the Pax Americana, but the essence of the nation itself. If there is ONE bright spot in this mess it is that the American public has finally woken up and realized the disaster they have elected into the White House as the President's poll numbers are reaching GW Bush levels.

nicomp: You will be happy to hear that I just shipped off the megaproject that has been sucking up every spare minute I've had for almost two weeks. Watch for Hubs coming in MERE HOURS! :)

Extremely puzzling!

Mayan Calendar Resources WITH OR WITHOUT quote marks is NUMBER ONE ON GOOGLE, DUDE! Congratulations! I sure wouldn't complain about that!

However, the other two are really interesting.

Using Global Variables in CPP

with quote marks doesn't show at all, except on

the latter of which is just as a Related Hub, and BTW, it's not a related Hub in any way I can see...

and it's a similar case with

Fractured Fairy Tales - Once Upon a Time in the Mines

It is extremely strange that one of your Hubs would make #1 and the other two aren't being listed at all. You're definitely not being blacklisted, so there has to be another explanation. How are your other Hubs faring in Google? Any others that don't show?

BTW, I've answered your request for a Hub on REDicare! Enjoy!

I do have others that don't show. If you are stumped, then there's no hope for pikers like me. :(

Nope. Use quotation marks and you'll see that "Top 10 Sites for Cheap Designer Watches" is there, as the big number one with that search. If you remove the quotes then it's still on the front page at ranking #15. And I really don't have a clue why those other two haven't shown up. Let's check them again in a few days.
