Special Glass Door to Identify Prisoners

Prisoner handling is done through computerised technology. Fingerprint comparisons are made through computers. There is a special glass door meant for the identification of the prisoners lodged in Tihar jail. Witnesses can see the prisoners through the glass. But prisoners cannot see the witnesses from their side. This facility is intended to induce courage in the minds of the witnesses to identify the prisoners properly.

Industrial Units Function from the Jail

Number 2 prison in Tihar jail accommodates an industrial workshop. Power loom, tailoring unit, bakery unit, envelopes & files manufacturing unit and many other manufacturing units function from here. Prisoners actively participate in these activities and also pick up knowledge in the areas they like most. This will be useful to the prisoners after they come out of the jail to start their own business. Products manufactured from this industrial unit in Tihar jail are popular and sold in many places in Delhi.

Charles Sobhraj Escaped From the Tihar Jail

Tihar jail also accommodates Yoga classes, meditation classes and a training course to get rid of alcoholism. Many of these facilities have been brought to Tihar jail by Kiran Bedi when she was the IG of Prisons. Tihar jail has ultra security facilities at multi levels. It is not possible to escape from this multi level security operations and get out of the jail. But one person has accomplished even this seemingly impossible task. Who was he? Suresh Kalmadi Is Happy Whether He Is Inside or Outside Tihar Jail

Some prisoners like Suresh Kalmadi are very happy in Tihar jail. Suresh Kalmadi is alleged to have looted millions of dollars from the government funds in the name of conducting Commonwealth games in Delhi last year. Even though Kalmadi was lodged in Tihar jail for his activity, he has come out now on bail. Kalmadi knows that nobody is going to ask him to repay the looted money to the government. He can continue to keep it and enjoy with his family for the rest of his life. Naturally Kalmadi should be very happy whether he is inside the Tihar jail or outside it.

Really interesting hub ramkimeena. I saw a documentary about an India prision on the Nat Geo channel, but it wasn't anything like the Tihar jail. I wonder what the rehabilition rate is like, maybe luxury can deliver a better non-repeat rate as compared to the usual overcrowded living conditions? Cheers Michael

Dear charmike4,

I thank you for your valuable comments. Only by repeating the crimes can one enter the Tihar jail again and again. If one reforms and stops committing crimes, he will be denied an entry into the luxurious Tihar jail.

Best wishes to you,

I think there are many homeless people in the world that would love to have a room in that jail. It does sound too good to be true.
