Shop Lifters Make a Speedy Get Away
I really didn't know what category to begin this hub because of the events which unfolded before my very eyes yesterday afternoon. As has become our custom on Thursdays we picked the grandsons up from pre-school and had lunch at a favorite seafood restaurant in our town. They always begin asking as I snap the car seats in the back seat of my Silverado,"Paw-paw, can we get baby shrimp today!" "Sure we can," The drive isn't far from First Baptist where they pre-school student and soon we were inside having ordered our food and eating our dinner without too much of the boyish interruptions like "I need to go to the bath room and "Paw-paw please make Colty quit stealing food off my plate!" We finished our meal and were ready for our next stop before coming back home.
I needed to stop by our local Mighty Dollar Store and get some mailers for some books I had sold so we drove across town to the store. We went inside and the boys were having a great time. "Paw-paw can I have this, I promise to be very, very, very good!" "Well now, you better wait and ask grandma," was my reply knowing they already had more toys than they could ever possibly need for those fun times at our house and any more would only add to the already huge amount of toy trucks, balls, etc. .
The Mighty Dollar didn't have the mailers I wanted so I left my wife in the store shopping as I went to another store in the strip mall that I thought might have the mailers. To my disdain, that store didn't have the mailers and as I walked back to reunite with my wife and grandsons I heard a vehicle coming through the parking lot. No mufflers and at a fast ratre of speed through this busy parking lot. I could see the small maroon truck had already hit someones car or maybe a shopping cart and parts were falling off the truck. I watched it disappear between the Denny's and Blockbuster Video on the upper end of the shopping complex wondering what the heck is the hurry?
When I entered the Mighty Dollar I learned a possible reason for actions of the truck and the driver inside. Someone had ran out the door with a shopping cart filled with merchandise without paying. The little maroon truck must have been the get away vehicle. Soon a city cop was on the scene and I explained what I had seen with the little maroon truck. Now there is really nothing in the Mighty Dollar worth stealing but evidently someone thought differently. I think this incident was a part of all the craziness that is going on today. I don't know if the guilty were caught but the officer and manager both got into the patrol car to see of the maroon truck might have stopped in the vicinity of the upper parking lot.
I am just thankful no pedestrians were hit by the driver of the maroon truck. It could have been disastrous had there been some old person or children in the area.
