Trust and fear

Trust and fear. An example.
Trust and fear. An example.

Lately, it seems to me that it is real easy to become very discouraged about our nation’s future right now. It is my opinion, that our leadership is lacking greatly and we are on the cusps of spiraling out of control. The national affordable health care bill seems to be everything but affordable to most hard working Americans. Our national debt is escalating, and Washington seems to be doing all it can to not “deal with it”.

More and more people are steadily becoming more dependent to the proverbial government tit. Those on food stamps have doubled since our current POTUS took office. The number of folks who can now claim a check in the name of being disabled has skyrocketed. Kids who are graduating college have no place to go find a job so they can pay off that enormous debt they accumulated to achieve that diploma.

Those who have been fortunate enough to hang on to their jobs, in many cases have not received raises to adjust for the cost of living. It is a struggle to stay afloat.

We see more and more out-of-wedlock births that assure this lifestyle of being dependent on our government continues and grows.

LBJ Delcaring War
LBJ Delcaring War

Declaration of War

It has been exactly 50 years now since LBJ and the democrats declared war on poverty, yet we have nothing but more poverty to show for it. As a mater of fact, the percentage of children living in poverty is essentially unchanged since 1964, and by many estimates, Our government has spent over $15 trillion on anti-poverty programs over the last five decades.

It now seems more than ever, that our world’s allies no longer trusts us and our enemies no longer fear us. I find this extremely troublesome.

I strongly believe that our once cherished moral values have been replaced with being politically correct. Integrity has left the White House. Having courage to stand on principals that built this nation no-longer exists. The ability to go on television to tell the world that we will no longer tolerate any enemy, foreign and domestic, who has the desire to weaken this nation. The very oath that ALL Presidents take seems NOT to be taken to heart, but are just mere words said on inaugural day. That our Constitution MUST be honored. But has it?

Pendulum swinging back to the right
Pendulum swinging back to the right

I am optimistic

This is indeed just another rant of mine, which means nothing. It is just MY words. Yet, I am hopeful and optimistic. I truly believe that the pendulum swings back a forth. I think it will swing back to the right.

Through all of this rant, I failed to mention just how significant I think our God has in things. Maybe the lack of God would be better. So many people now find it much easier to not rock the boat, and allow God to slowly be removed from our daily lives. Not to offend those who choose to believe that God is nothing more than a fairy tale.

That the principals and moral values we at one time held dearly was given to us by His Word. The Bible spelled out His significance. Our forefathers utilized it. Our grandparents cherished it. It is not too late; to start doing what our heart tells us to do. To simply put God first in our lives, and live the way we all know we should live. Quit worrying about offending a small group of people. I still believe that the vast majority of us still believe that God is our creator and He is exactly who He says He is in the Bible.

That shining city on a hill
That shining city on a hill

Shining City on a Hill

My vision is we will all turn to God, put Him first. Love and protect our families and neighbors second. Then I think we can see this Nation become what Ronald Reagan always referred to as that shining city on a hill. A beacon of light for all that is good. I think we may be down, but not out.

Corny? Perhaps, but I feel much better getting this off my chest. Besides, I haven’t written a hub in a while so here it is.

Well, it's good to have you back ranting. I'll tell you my friend, things have gone to hell in a hand basket. I am taking steps to become self-sufficient and say goodbye to the established society that I have lived in all of my life. I no longer trust those in authority. Anyway, welcome back and nice job of ranting.

I hope many Christians read what you have said Chris because you have it right "the vast majority of us still believe that God is our creator and He is exactly who He says He is in the Bible."

It's not the minuscule minority we have to fear but the silent majority, that is to say their silence. Jesus said "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 10:32-33)

How many of our politicians, how many of the electorate, how many "Christians" although they would tell you they believe that actually take advantage of the myriad opportunities they may have to exercise it? It is the silence of the silent majority that gives the vocal minority their power and they daily do everything they can to further silence believers.

I am delighted to see someone else saying what I believe, with all of my heart. They didn't just take God out of our schools, they took morals, discipline, and the strength that He gives us. Now, when we mention Him, we get told that he is a mythological creature. Those that know little about Christianity, try to tell us that our loving God is cruel because he murdered millions with the flood. Satanists tell us that they are just preaching a lifestyle, not worshiping Satan. They have no idea what they are really doing. They do not believe in anything and will not accept that Satan is real too. Now you have my rant for the day.

Ranting is good for your health. Optimism is even better. I am good with ranting, but I see I have to work on my hope that the pendulum will start swinging in the right direction.

Chris, it is indeed a pleasure to read another rant from a friend.

Yes, it is easy to see the gloom and doom of what we face these days. Our elected representatives seem to have completely forgotten why we put them there. What they are doing to the military is disgusting and an outrage. Let's hope this is all remembered the next time they come up for election.

It seems like all the things that are happening now is part of a plan to destroy this country. If that is correct, it seems the plan is working.

When others can relate to your ranting, it is important. Thanks for expressing what so many feel.

Hi Billy!

It IS good to be back and cut loose with a rant.

Good for you! Becoming as independent from this government as possible, anyway.... is a wise move.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hello tsadjatko,

Those words from Matthew...."Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."...

That leaves a real sting to those who know better, and yet seem to want to conform with the norm.

Thanks for your wise input...

Chris

Hi Pops!

Maybe I should say that I am "cautiously" optimistic. I realize MUCH has to change before we get that big ol pendulum swinging back....but I really do believe that MOST people understand everything much better when it hits their wallet.........and THAT is starting to happen.

I appreciate you stopping by....

Hi Mike!

I too, think that the tranformation of this country IS indeed something this POTUS sincerely wants.......and IS having his way. I have hopes that the people will wake up before it is too late and get this big ol boat turned around.

We will see!

Thank you for your kind words. I really think there are a bunch of us who are on the same page....I hope there are enough to make the changes we need.

I appreciate your visit.

Chris while I agree with your Hub I believe that Obama has divided this nation to the extent that it won't be repaired in my lifetime. I never thought I would see it fall so fast under the spell of a complete fraud.

Hi Frog!

It is indeed falling fast, but I think we get the right people in there and open up our Oil and Gas wells, like we all know that we should....I see a BOOM happenning and THEN we can start repairing the broken pieces.

It is really a shame if we don't take advantage of all of the natrual energy we have and USE it to stimulate this eoconomy. It is right there at our finger tips.

This is an excellent hub and so true. I am glad to read of optimism as that is hard to come by these days. I trust God and that sustains me each day. I certainly cannot not trust in our leaders as they have shown their true colors. I like to think of our future as President Reagon described it.

CMerritt profile image

CMerritt 2 years ago from Pendleton, Indiana Author

Hi pamela,

You have it right in my opinion, but placing God first. I think that is lacking in so many today, the are relying on themselves or others to sustain them for their personal lives, and only God can fulfill that on a level we all need to really get by in this crazy world.

Thanks for your kind words.

Chris

Chris I want to be hopeful and optimistic too but do you remember what God told Samuel to tell the Jews when they demanded a king? (1 Samuel 8)

"...8:18 Then you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

Makes me wonder.

Which is exactly why I think we need a "turn to God" movement. I'm not saying we have to shove any religious ideas down anybody's throats. I am saying that the existing Christians and God-fearing folks need to step up their game. We have become lukewarm Christians.....John telss us in revelations...

‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth."

That is up to us, who believe, to up our game. THEN, perhaps we will see a leader who knows how to lead us.

Just my opinion.

Wonderful message and so true. Our government has little to offer people in the way of security and happiness, we must rely upon the foundation of faith to lead us to a better world. We have sat back too long and allowed others to lead us to the current dire straights. May we learn to trust God and turn to him for the answer.

I've not been getting my notifications and it looks like I've missed several rants. I'll have to play catch up.

Quit worrying about offending a small group of people. I still believe that the vast majority of us still believe that God is our creator and He is exactly who He says He is in the Bible." - You got it!. That's exactly where it's at. Rant on!

I see two ways to look at this CM, both of which can be encouraging. But first I want to tell you how spot on this article is. I agree with all you said, every word.

Okay, the first thing is that awesome verse that so many quote 2 Chronicles 7:14 where it says, "I my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." This is positive because I know that when I stand up and can get others to stand up, God hears us and will begin to work to heal the land.

The other thing comes from a negative direction: Soon will come Jesus to "catch up" the church and then the Anti-Christ will march in and take over everything that is left after the church is gone. I imagine how bad it has to be to have almost everyone beguiled by this false leader and it seems to me that the worse the sin gets here and world-wide, the closer it is for me to go home to be with Christ forever.

Each of these things encourage me but All of the things you mentioned hurt me if I think on them too long. I do what I can and lay it all at Jesus' feet.

It was a great article. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I'm afraid I'm not quite as optimistic as you. When I was in my teens we young people were passionate about America. We loved our country and wanted it to be the greatest, most powerful country on Earth. Now I look around and I see but nothing but apathy or even hatred of America from our young citizens. I'm not sure where the leadership is going to come from. Great hub!

CMerritt profile image

Thanks Mel! I am Mr. Optimistic........though I sometimes wonder WHY.

I believe that the pendulum has peaked out to the left and is going to begin its swing back to the right.......I just don't think it is moving very fast and has lost its momentum.

I appreciate your comment

tsadjatko profile image

tsadjatko 2 years ago from maybe (the guy or girl) next door

It's more like the pendulum was swinging over the edge of a cliff on one side and over solid ground on the other and while swinging over the cliff side it swung out so far it came off it's fulcrum and has already fallen over the cliff. Unless there is a superman who can catch it before it hits bottom and put it back on its fulcrum all is lost, it is just a matter of time. Look for Marshall law between now and 2016, the left will never surrender the power it took them 50 years to obtain..
