US Congress; You created this ! Now Fix It!

HUNGER !

First !....This isn't about me ! And yet , It's about every man and woman in this country ! It's about the health care system , its about the economy , its about the housing market , the unemployment figures that affect every one of our very qualities of lives . It's about elections , patriotism and it's also about YOU !.......

Americans on the street are angry or maybe a better term for the national "mood " right now is disgusted ! Congress is averaging somewhere around a 9 to a 12 percent approval rating . Now , that in itself is actually very disappointing ! The elected leaders of the United States of America are in a mode of absolute and total insensitivity to its people . And we the "people ' are Americans one and all , a people who are loyal , who are involved in politics on the street level , Some of these activities on our level involve , as you know , the media . We watch this media and decide individually who ,what , why and how the policies that lead our day to day lives are manifested into reality on the street level .

Because of your political activities , on the regulatory oversight and "under sight" , we have watched this national level of politics destroy the actual livelihood of our economy . All of the direct actions of Congress in the last thirty to forty years have created the mess that is effecting our quality of life today .DE- Regulations on corporate America for one and probably the most important one , And ! Congress knows this too, have effected how the power of our very livelihood has changed in America .

America IS becoming a nation of a smaller and a richer upper class ! And a larger and poorer lower class . Our Congressional policy makers have been bought by corporate America in many ways . Lobbying by P.A.C.s in the highest amounts ever , now OWN congressional policy making ! If you as an entity of political power don't realize it yet , there is a message in this that lies slowly festering beneath the surface of "we the people " We're getting angrier !
And I , as an American , am as well !

However my messege here was intended to inform you of what is happening on the street level , on the personal level . Where the very basic day to day choices involved in actually living , feeding our families , obtaining work , providing for ourselves and our families isn't just becoming more difficult , it's getting down right hard ! People are starting to realize on the personal level some very old yet very real problems associated with life . Hunger .....yes the actual word of my rant , Hunger !

It's probably somewhere from within, from in my ancestry that has morphed into my own personal mentality , into my own conscience , and into my very own level of common sense ! I believe that when Americans begin to see hunger in our day to day living .......That some kind of street revolution cannot be far behind ! So! That's my message today , America is evolving downwards from long period of prosperity to a lower level of social understanding , of well being , and of political realizations , That the rich have gotten richer !, including Congress ! And that we the people are getting poorer . So , What actualy lies beyond this point is a mystery to "we the people " however as a people , I believe we have been here before !

Maybe in its own time this consciousness , this "street revolution" will begin to see this too and perhaps even to begin to symbolically ? or realistically,......" bend the plowshares back into swords ". The American revolution comes to mind for me ! A time of Kings , of hierarchies , of over taxation and of politicians soo disconnected from it's "peoples".

Since congress doesn't speak in our name, it is time to impeach it. I agree with your discourse. There's a disconnection between the people and its so-called representatives.

Everything you say is true, yet I have no idea what to do about it. We keep re-electing some of the worst performers among our elected representatives. Two weeks before the last election we had citizens who had no idea who was running for office.

Voter choices are now boiled down to party line loyalty, and which candidate gives away the most "free' stuff. Is it any wonder we are failing?

We can't even get a large majority of citizens to get out and vote. Then they are the one's who bitch the loudest when the wrong guy gets elected.

If Congress was a private company, most of those in office would have been fired long ago for their poor performance.

I'm open to most any ideas anyone has for correcting this problem, but so far have not heard anything that would be considered legal or workable. Any ideas?

All the drama that we see played out in Washington each time is simply a soap-opera played out for the American public to justify the continued spending and to rationalize the need to tax more in order to do so. There are no sincere efforts to establish a budget, define fiscal responsibility, reduce spending, or reduce the debt and there will not be regardless of which side of the aisle one looks at for an answer. These people are drunk with power and a large degree of that drunkness comes from the power to spend pork money. We have been robbed by legislative ponzi schemes yet not one politician is going to jail for it and the crime continues. With almost half of the American public on the welfare wagon in some fashion, there is little hope left of turning things in another direction and these will be the first people screaming when the golden goose is declared dead. The fact that this President and this do-nothing Congress can convince the majority of the American public that our issues lie with low taxation of any group of people is insane. Half the people pay no tax but the expectation is that those who make money should pay all the tax and the spending shall continue unabated. A good board of directors would fire them whole damned bunch if we had one. There are no checks and balances and soon there will not be a Constitution which is recognizeable or enforceable yet the takers continue to wait for more gifts from a government mired in bankruptcy. ~WB

Another problem we have right now, is that people do not vote! How can we change what our politicians do, or do not do if we do not vote? It is horrible, they can do anything they want to do. The reason is because we do not vote them out. We can vote them out, but the number of people who are actually voting gets smaller and smaller every year. Yes people are angry, but they are doing nothing about it. People do not think their vote counts. Well, if they do not vote, then they are correct. But, if they do vote it will count. The more people vote, the more power we will have. But only if people believe their vote counts and only if people vote.

Yes, they do think they have all the power, and that will be true unless people actually vote.

I just don't understand why people don't vote. Someday we will lose that power and it will be too late.

In other countries, people risk their lives to vote. But, in this one we just don't bother to vote.

I really just don't understand it.

Maxoxan man , Its time for a grass roots movement to oust incumbants of both sides of the ailes Its the only thing the American public can do ! Do that seperately wothout party divisions , stay with party lines but change and change again untill the newbies all get the messege !....It could work . Non divisive Too! Congress has got to be changed .

Patriotic vigilance is fast falling by the way , I do believe the Idea I stated above would work though !....... hugs" my michele" !he he .....Ed

What are you talking about most of you, which spending is really affecting our economy besides the military one. Most of you don't seem to understand economics otherwise you would understand that we are under a capitalistic regime. We are privileging the offer not the demand, let's not be confused there. It is time that everybody pays their due to the country. No more fiscal loopholes!

Wayne Brown profile image

Wayne Brown 3 years ago from Texas

The closing of fiscal loopholes will not even come close to address the problem...it is not even a viable solution...maybe a start at best. Spending must be addressed for any other aspect to have an effect. We do not cure the economy with government spending....we simply go further in debt and hand out more welfare in the process as politicians scramble to buy votes with borrowed money. Meanwhile the private sector is being purposely stymied with growing regulation and totally unpredictable futures in terms of cost. If you believe government holds the cure for the economics, then I suggest you take some training yourself. ~WB

i see the correlation you made between angry citizens and riots in the streets multiplied by rampant gun sales and suicide bombers we call school shooters as signs of despair. both sides now.

i guess its time for each of us to stop blaming the other side and remember what it is we like about our neighbor or it will be another brother against brother and Lincoln will not be here to lead the Nation.

Revolutions were ignited by socialistic ideas. The enlightenment was the foundation of early revolutions. You contradict yourself. Monarchies fell as a result. In what way monarchies with their absolute were different from our capitalism?

tirelesstraveler profile image

tirelesstraveler 3 years ago from California

The American Way! A very interesting statistic about our founding fathers is many of them and the people who made our country great were second born or middle children. They had nothing to lose so they came here. Tell an American they can't do something and they are likely to say, " Let me show you how".

I am hopeful the spirit that made us the U.S.A. will once again revive us and we will have liberty once again. Liberty is not just capitalism, its a responsibility to treat people as we would like to be treated.

I"m afraid I disagree , also that a real revolution in America would be supported by too many outside interests . The Isrealis , the Europeans , everyone would have to pick a side in the fight . Believe me ! A grass roots voter movement is the only peaceful way of this . AND it can be done ! "capitolism lives and thrives on war" ......another way of looking at that is that this economy supports a huge part of the worlds economyy ...30 %+/-?.....who knows where it goes !.........Thank you for stopping by !

(congress has a 6% approval rating..how much lower could it possibly be? Why can't 'The People' fire the people they hired?

There is more than enough food to feed all the people in the world - but - the rich and powerful don't want that because that decreases their 'CONTROL' - that's my word of the day, Cowboy! They want us overworked, underpaid, stressed, distracted, in debt - so that they can rape and pillage without much - or any - objection from the majority - the masses!

It's workin' pretty good, huh? The ONLY way i see it changing is if THE PEOPLE SPEAK!

up and sharing..

if we don't spread the word outside of hubpages - what's the use of all the passion and outrage?

So often, when I read hubs of this nature...which I know are realistic and accurate.....I need to wait a while before I'm able to comment. On a "personal" level, at this point, I'm becoming more and more weary...disgusted and I don't mind saying...confused.

I second Leslie's question....Why CAN'T we take mas action and fire the whole lot of them? Start fresh. Crazy questions, huh? I suppose.

These discussions are killing my spirit.....and again, as Leslie points out....perhaps this is their very intent.........UP+++

Yes we could change this .IF ....we put asside partisan politics and fire them all {vote them out ] I can't say this enough ; We would be no worse off at all with inexperienced office holders ! I say stick with your ideals and party , but change the office holders !........And smile , I don't want you discouraged !

Nail, meet head. You smacked it dead on. I wrote my Senator(Corker) and actually got a letter back explaining how they would do what they were elected to do, blah blah.

The whole government from top to bottom is corrupt, and interested in only doing what they want. They need to quit raising the debt ceiling and doing what they tell us to do in snarky comments, live within their means. Why do we pay these jokers 6 figures but teachers barely minimum wage? Why do they have job security in one of the most insecure times in history? Why is their solution to raise money is increase borrowing? Why is the American public convinced their is only two parties? Hell next election vote all independent and let both parties sit there and watch their power crumble around their ears. And get rid of the damn electoral college when electing a president. That was great 200 years ago when elections were collected via horse, but it is an outdated stupid means of electing the president. Unless you live in 7 or 8 states, your vote doesnt count at all.

A good /interesting article ahorseback,I well sympathise with what you say/and feel. Although I am in UK ,there is very similar feeling over here at the'grassroots' level. All prople I speak to are fed up with all the 'yes' boys (and girls) in our Parliament, they lied to us-THE PEOPLE ,and they carry on with their lies and their deceipts. They are on another a planet (or should be). Average 'Joe or Mary in our streets want all these cheats and liars out, they only got elected on 30 odd % of the vote anyway. Yep we got what they call a hung Parliament (ha-they should be). We do have some good politicians ,but 'the boys' club drown 'em out.

We got food banks all over UK now for struggling families. When I told my 91 old mum she nearly cried and said it reminds her of the war years. I stood in our local elections as a candidate last few years, went round on my bike {one man band) ,knocking on doors talking to folk,I was amazed at positive feedback and how many votes I got. Yes more folk should stand and put themselves forward as INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES,GET THE SODS OUT. Maybe you should stand as Independent candidate ahorseback in your local elections. But there is lots of talk over here about riots in the streets again. Well I believe in protest ,but peaceful if possible...as John Lennon song goes-POWER TO THE PEOPLE -RIGHT ON--
