Wake Up! Can't you Hear The Alarms Going Off?

I identify with this sculpture and it seems to me a lot of people might see the fear and shame in it.
I identify with this sculpture and it seems to me a lot of people might see the fear and shame in it.

Wake Up!

I have written hubs about the abuse of animals and of children I was warned that people might stop coming to read what I have to say because it makes them uncomfortable and sad.

I was told in no uncertain terms that my happy go lucky hubs were a more enjoyable read.

27million world wide... That's the ESTIMATED number of men women and children that were enslaved and that number is 3 years old! Nothing has changed, it's getting worse, not better!

I can go on all day about statistics, but what good are numbers if you will forget this when it is no longer in front of your face.

How did it Start?

Cruelty in the world had to start somewhere.

You can all spout about the Bible and the apple and original sin, all I have to say is that's an excuse, not an answer!

It started, like all things start, very small. One person was having a bad day, and someone else laughed. The person who was having a bad day did not like being laughed at... From that moment there was a small kernel of rage. It sat in the belly and festered.

One day that rage grew into cruelty, and it lashed out at any who were within reach. It lashed out with jealousy and anger and torment. With a sweep of it's mighty hand, kernels were planted in each who bore the brunt of that cruelty. these kernels would plant themselves deep within each one and someday grow into cruelty.

The cruelty was passed down from generation to generation. Sometimes it was directed at children, or women, other times at dogs, but always, without a doubt, at someone weaker.

It was the cruelty that made them "strong" enough to attack someone weaker than themselves, just as they had been attacked when they themselves were weak.

These "strong ones" they think they are doing us all a service. They are strengthening the next generation. They are weeding out the weaker among us.

Survival of the fittest... Survival of the meanest?

Please Note this is about Human Trafficking

In the first video we see that cruelty starts very young. In the second we see that it can even start (or end) in the home.

For one who is living in a world of abuse, poverty and ridicule, it is easy to become a target. I wanted to write a book on this subject, on what makes a person an easy target. My fear was that people who did not understand how to find their own, would use my book as a guide to potential targets.

I was a target. Sibling rivalry and getting picked on and laughed at in school makes a child vulnerable. I had already been abused by a neighbor, and there was a lot of rivalry at home. When my father passed away and my mother went to work, it was not long before I was hanging out with the wrong people. I ran away when I was sixteen. The following video claims that runaways are targeted within 48 hours. I was no exception. I, however, had already been abused so when I realized what was going on I ran away and went to the police station and turned myself in.

Not For Sale Founder, David Batstone

Watch, Please.

Get to know your neighbors

The whole awakening for me was started when I went to my neighbor's yard sale. I was going to tell her that we aren't allowed to have yard sales here.

She was having the yard sale to heighten awareness. She had just found out at church, and she is not from America. She is from Romania, and this was a horrifying awakening for her. "I have a teenage daughter" she told me with tears in her eyes, "I thought it was safe in the USA! Did you know about this?" I shook my head no... I did not know.

Now you know! Go tell your neighbors! Call your loved ones. Share the news with them, show them this hub. Share the above video! Join causes on Facebook, follow the causes on Twitter, and write about it to your government leaders.

Here's the deal: We elected our officials to government, make them know that if they do not stamp this horrific blight from our nations that we will vote for someone else!

It is horrific and I am not shocked by the numbers. Human trafficking is a huge business and traffickers are exploiting children all over the world. Russian ladies are being promised jobs in America only to find out when they arrive here that they are been trafficked to the sex trade. They are caught in this awful web of lies and as a result get stuck in the sex trade.

I was an abused child and I write about it in some of my earlier hubs. Your right about the strong cowering over the weak to demand that they do what they are told to do. One of my sisters was sexually abused by a live in boyfriend of my mothers, he is dead today thank goodness for that monster and pig.

Thank you for publishing this hub and making us all aware of this serious problem not only here in America but all over the world. Peace and hugs

Thank you for your support, Saddlerider. I am sorry to hear that abuse touched your family as well. It is an awful shame that generations of people grew up too ashamed to admit that they were abused. The end result of thousands of years worth of silence is the chaos we find ourselves in today. We must speak and educate each other.

Stopping the abuse and exploitation of children should be the number one priority of the people, the government and law enforcement. Sadly it isn't....ever. It is a world of parents who get engrossed in a TV show or fall asleep while their children roam the streets.

The children wind up paying for their parent's ignorance and obvious neglect...because they become exposed to predators.

Wealthy professional men leave their own countries to enjoy their sick sexual obsessions with children of poor families in poor countries.

I think the government is afraid to have a Vermin Roundup because some of their own might be caught in it.

You are so right about communication...we have to talk with each other. It might not be the total answer...but it might save a child.

When I ran away, the detective that got me home, told me that any day that he could save one child was a good day. If together we make one family aware and it saves one child, then that's a start! Thanks Tom, for stopping by and reading as well as commenting. I can't stress enough how the spotlight in the media is going to light up this issue. When the nets are drawn in there will be people caught who should have heeded the warning signs. As my friend Dawn says, if you don't want to get caught, then don't do it!

Thanks for writing this Hub, Faybe Bay. I wrote about the trafficking gateway we have in Toledo about how to contact government officials that can help. Slowly, some impact is being made. Everytime someone calls the hotline number to report is a step further toward progress, imo.

Keep writing.

Yes, thank you very much, Faybe, for continuing to try to increase public awareness of these appalling things happening to children. Children are not commodities or sex toys for adults to play with.

Patty, I did read your hub about Toledo, and I was shocked as I am from Austintown, Ohio, and I had no idea Toledo was such a hot bed of activity. I have sort of lost track of how many hubs I have written on this and similar subjects. I want to write about happy times but I don't know how I can until all of the laws to protect our children are in place. It is a sad state of affairs when a news item is that the CHURCH has renounced child sex trafficking and exploitation... I mean, I would have thought it was understood, not that a decree would have to be made!

Yes, Paradise, I am still thump, thump, thumping along, my fist hitting my hand over and over then my forehead, THINK, THINK, THINKING "What else can I say that hasn't been said?" I keep going back to the scene in The Sound of Music when Julie Andrews says "Excuse me Captain, but when do they play?" Children are supposed to play, and play safely. No amount of knee pads and helmets can save them from this, and how long has it been since we could let our children play?

Our strength are these: think, communicate, disclose, be consistent, honest, brave. Your Hubs are very useful: I will not pretend to live in a fairy world, but I want know for be able to think and act. Thanks

Thank you Fucsia, you are right, I just so enjoy writing things that make people happy. I am having difficulty separating myself from the cause! I have so many good things I want to say, but every time I try to write I come back to this.

Hey Faybe, a very nicely written hub and it touches on subject matter that really isn't being addressed as it should be. I'm very glad to see someone doing something to heighten the awareness of the tragic things happening within society that most people simply dismiss or pay no attention to at all. You are an inspiration to others and I can only hope your hub gets lots of traffic. (((HUGS))) Thank you for writing it and Positive thoughts you. :)

Faybe Bay profile image

Faybe Bay 6 years ago from Florida Author

Thanks Cagsil, it is a touchy subject because people have a tendency to just blame and never really face the facts. The book I was going to write was about those facts. What exactly makes a child a target. The thing is, I know what makes a child an easy target because I was an easy target. I have talked to people all over who have been victims and there is a pattern.

Thanks for the positive thoughts and hugs, I need them.

Hugs, hugs, hugs for you Faybe. Its good to have the happy thoughts to fall back on when the negative becomes overwhelming. Buts its vitaly important to never forget the small, weak, defenseless and helpless inocents of the world. They need people like you, to speak up for them, and their rights, they deserve happiness and protection, safety. Keep writing Faybe. :)

Thanks DoorMattnomore. I just ache all the time over this and the pain won't go away from me. I look at those tiny hands, so soft and chubby, and I think "Who could ever want to break the trust that is in those hands." I love you my friend and know your struggles, I know that your trust was broken too. I can't just sit here and say, "Well I turned out alright" because I didn't, I worked way to hard to be okay. I still do. No one rescued us, I want someone to rescue them.

..you are making a difference in this world - and it's noble unselfish people like you who make others sit up and take notice and listen and learn.

It has to start somewhere - someone has to start rolling the ball.

You are a visionary my friend - and thus - very very essential!!!!

Thanks Epigramman. I know that for you this must seem a total nightmare, as you are a kind and gentle soul, caring for you pets... I know that people survive some of these situations, some are advocates now, but until we get to the root of the problem, then it's a matter of keeping it in the public eye. Thanks again for your support, it means so much to me.

Hi Faybe,

I knew nothing till I read your hub. I would have read it sooner-but the title gave me no clue, and I can be lazy-but if I knew, I would have read it immediately.

It's shocking but believable and heart wrenching really, makes me tear up. I read all of it.

I hope I can help, I will pass this on.

Thankyou and God bless you for what you are trying to do.

Love,

Rosey

Hi Chris, thanks for your support!

Rosey, I am so glad you will pass this on. I must admit that with four hubs on human trafficking, plus child abuse and my Peta hubs, this one kind of ties them all together, and I didn't know what to call it. I just felt like everyone was being kept asleep on the issue. If you are not told, you won't know, and there are hubbers here who have seen how the news doesn't make the 6:00 and 11:00 report. Check out lmmartin on the subject of news we never heard. http://hubpages.com/politics/52-children-recovered...

I first became aware of this issue with my aunt, who visited India in the 1970's, and was continually asked to buy children. Then, reading on my own, I realized how often children were deliberately injured, by their caregivers, then sent out to beg, as a form of supporting their family. World Vision has done much to open my eyes to the problems around the world and make me seek out fair trade products.

Faybe Bay profile image

Faybe Bay 6 years ago from Florida Author

Oh My Ivorwen! The deliberate injury of children to send them out begging is one I had forgotten, I was so young when I heard of it. Thank you for bringing that up. The thing is, Ivorwen, we are raised to believe these atrocities are happening somewhere else, halfway around the world. It's happening in every state in the US. I just watched a TV miniseries, from a few years ago, called Human Trafficking. The story was based on real events happening in the US that was not making headlines. One scene was trafficked children and women, brought into Mexico, and then forced to walk across our borders. It reminded me of the trail into Arizona that caused so much furor in recent months when Arizona decided to strictly enforce laws that have been in place for many years! The atrocities being committed are unspeakable. I'm glad you are doing your part and were raised to do so. For those of us who did not know, we must learn, and teach others.

Hi Faye, just discovered this article. Bravo for bringing attention. Thought you might like to know about the Trafficking in America Conference in Nashville June 10-12. God bless you!!

Thank you Yvonne! I am so pleased to hear that as I am working in Chattanooga, Tennessee, about two hours from Nashville! I hope I will get to go. My job is supposed to end around that time, but my hotel will be paid up until that Tuesday!
