What Is A Unicorn?

You're Going To Find Out Today!

A unicorn is a mythological creature, heavy emphasis on the "myth" part of the word there folks in this Hub. Jeez! Can't you just wait until 1 PM EST when Obama unveils "his" budget reduction plan? I'm sitting on pins and needles because I just love to hear the man speak but not as muich as he loves the sound of his own voice.

Did you catch the Prez's press secretary's remarks about this crisis we are facing about our fiscal solvency. Remember, never let a good crisis go to waste to try to score your political points. Now according to Carney, Ryan's "Plan For Prosperity" is a "non-starter," his words not mine. How so? Well, according to that sage Whine House spokesman it is because his budget doesn't balance. Has he bothered to look at his bosses budget lately?

In reality what we are seeing is Obama's defensive move to cover his buttocks because Ryan forced his hand. Obama just hates to be bested you see. He's the one who had the grand idea of setting up a bipartisan budget deficit commission and he's the one, once that the results were released, who treated it like a red herring. The recommendations were so stark and politically unpopular that he chose to ignore them completely. You see his reelection chances would dim if he has to actually the take the decisive, and painful, actions necessary to slay this monster. Politicking though is precisely what landed us on this square in the first place so please don't expect anything else but that this afternoon.

This is where the unicorn will fly to the rescue so to speak, but remember that they are only a myth. You better have your backhoe handy for this affair. What is expected is more dreams, wish lists and Washington hog wash. What I expect to see is massive tax hike proposals and there is speculation that he will suddenly embrace the red herring. After all, he does need a plan, anyone's plan, since he never had one of his own, other to to spend excessively while he could. The danger of embracing the debt commission recommendations is what we can't see. How much behind the scenes action is going on to undermine the findings of that commission in Smirkyville? It's not that I'm a conspiracy theorist but that I'm a realist. I have always watched what the man does, not what he says.

The myth lies in those massive tax increases my friends and neighbors. If you don't severely cut spending then the federal government, historically, will see that additional revenue as a means to spend even more money. History might not repeat itself but this is Foggy Bottom where life is beautiful all the time. A stroll down memory lane, a short one, may be in order.

Remember when Obama cut a deal to extend the Bush tax cuts just this past December? He praised the bipartisan support that went into that effort. He claimed he understood the ramifications of raising taxes during hard economic times. When that is done there is a disincentive to those who produce the most income to produce more. If they produce more to give to our already wasteful federal monster, they end up keeping even less. It's called basic economics which Obama himself admits he knows nothing about.

The scenario is as follows. The top 1% of our population earn but 19.6% of the income produced in this nation. In achieving that feat, they end up paying 41% of the taxes collected. WOWSER! What a deal that is. What he will unveil is a plan to make them pay even more? Lets extrapolate this a bit. The top 5% of income earners already pay 60% of the taxes scooped in. Think about that. Is that fair and equal treatment? Will raising those folk's taxes even more create an incentive for them to produce even more. Of course it won't.

You see, using Obama's rationale, everyone should be treated equally except the successful people in the nation. He wants to perpetuate that myth. Most of us want to keep as much money in our grubby little hands as we can without doling it over to the federal government so it can redistribute it to those on the dole.

In case you have failed to notice, Obama is a demagogue. Today expect more of the same. He wants to make the rich the bad guys today and he will propose to scrap the same Bush tax cuts he just praised but weeks ago. This whole thing smells of his continuation of policies that promote more class warfare. The Great Uniter? Give that a rest if you will.

The real test will be that his "plan" will leave Foggy Bottom in charge. In his mind that is paramount. He is a politician after all. We're all suffering through astronomical gas price hikes, inflation at the grocery store and other price increases associated with rising commodity prices. That is all secondary to this man. Maintenance of power is primary - at our expense. He will once again show what a demagogue he is. Embracing compromise will be the key here. The very same type of compromises that have gotten us into this mess in the first place. I call it "political theater," Take your seat and watch the show.

But the fact is folks, there AREN'T really such things as unicorns, except in Obama's world.

As Always,

The Frog Prince

PS - Am I a prophet? No, not by any means. But having just listened to the whole "political" speech because that was what he makes so well, I think I hit the nail on the head. Long on the demagoguery, short on specifics and a general call for sympathy. That isn't going to reduce much. It was an entirely political speech once again meant to continue the class warfare he wants to divide this nation with even further. Did anybody else notice that Little Joey Biden went to sleep while his boss was droning away?

Crisis? What Crisis?

Is He Snoozing Or Not?

Well done Prince. I suggest we pour ourselves a mighty strong drink before we attempt to listen to this reincarnation of Karl Marx. I hear the government will be distributing pitch forks so that we all go after those pesky "rich"people more effectively. Voted up and awesome.

The inside info is to avoid the Unicorn market at all costs.

It is interesting that that the President feels like he can tax the heck out of the rich..it is not like he is Robin Hood and we little people are seeing the goods..Still learning..:)Thanks Frog

Sunnie - Taxes are a disincentive, except to people who already don't pay any which at the present is in the 50% range.

Frog - No matter how you stack it, or how you describe it, Horse Crap and Bull Dung still smell the same. Come 1300 we'll see his lips a quivering and his ribs a shaking but won't hear a cotton pickin word he's sayin'. It'll just be more smoke and mirrors theater. Up and Awesome Froggie.

50 % wow! How is that? I do think you are right though the more taxes one has to pay will not be an incentive to want to make more money..Thanks.

Sunnie - It's a fact that about 50% of the work force pays no tax on their income. Then you have the freeloaders hopping on that wagon. What's "fair" about any of that situation? Not a damned thing.

If everyone paid 10% in taxes regardless of income and that includes people that receive welfare checks we might be able to balance something????? Maybe???!!!!

An end to doing tax returns would be NICE:)

The IRS sure would be a skeleton TFP. Think of the savings there. But wait! Those same 50% who pay no taxes are the first in line when the government is doling out our tax dollars. Put that in your electronic cigarette and smoke it. HA!

I swear you have such a way with words, I loved it when I read 'What is expected is more dreams, wish lists and Washington hog wash.' That phrase says it all about any speech this guy has given or will ever give. Yet another fantastic Hub. Up and Awesome.

Thanks

Great lesson today Frog. You know Obama just talks to hear his own head rattle! I'll be laughing while tuning in at 1!

How do I become one of the 50% that doesn't pay taxes? Oh yeah! Work less.....take more!

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Hi Frog,

I liked the video. It's sad that it was all lies.

I had a feeling Obama would summarily dismiss Ryan's bill. Maybe he'll come around later when he realizes we really have no choice, and actually need to ultimately go further (boost the tax base so we can begin to pay off the official debt).

As far as unicorns go, I have an idea for a new Oval Office chair, but it would be indelicate to explain in detail.

Pop, I think you should have a special liquid lunch "episode" today!

Great hub mate, but you overlooked that magic wand in Obama's coat pocket. He borrowed it from Harry Potter to whip up a bunch of political ideology and re-invent himself come election time. And if that doesn't work , the wand is guaranteed to whip up a batch of non-partisan cool-aid.

- Best Wishes

I'm tired of these Robin Hood politicians who use the notion of "social justice" to forcibly rob the rich (who pay most of the taxes) to redistribute to the poor (who pay little to no taxes). If these leftist politicians want to have the rich give more and more to the poor, then they should donate their own salaries to the cause.

Great hub as usual FP.

Yep, you indeed DID nail it! I have to say something though -not to tarnish your prophetic abilities mind you - but Obama isn't difficult to read. As you said, when you pay no attention to what he says, it's SO easy to predict what this Chicago political thug is going to do - it's a no brainer. However - you are a magnificant writer, that I can not take away from you. ;-)

Stu - Is Biden sleeping or just meditating on Oblabber's words of wisdom? Or did he maybe know the speech was the usual campaign speech in advance?

Did you find it odd the he kept using the word "INVEST" which is now the new Democratic buzz word for "SPEND?"

How convincing was he to those young people in the audience that Medicare would be there for them when they get to the age to receive it without reforming the entire system? Didn't address social security either or did I miss something?

How about the unfunded liabilities? Didn't hit a lick there either.

Lets just imagine once again that we can continue to "invest," increase taxes on the wealthy that won't make much of a dent in the federal deficit and everything will be just peachy with Obama at the helm. Now that's what a call a UNICORN my friend.

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Hi Frog,

All points right on target.

The most Obama is willing to do is raise taxes, talk about federal operating cuts but not really implement them, and refuse to even consider entitlement reform. His approach will only make the crisis worse.

I think budget proposals from Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, and especially the Republican Study Commission are alot more logical from the standpoint of being starting points for a real fix. The problem is that Obama and the Senate are going to fight these bills with every ounce of strength they have. One of them might stand a chance of getting passed if the Senate could be brought on board (i.e., Obama might be afraid of being viewed as a national traitor if he vetoed), but without the Senate saying yes, Obama has all the political cover he needs to remain, well, Obama.

Stu - But you gotta admit it was hell of a reelection campaign kickoff speech and a furtherance of his pursuit of class warfare. At times yesterday I was thinking he'd make Karl Marx blush.

frog, it seems everyone on HP (conservative anyway) are talking about the tax breaks and waiver that unions and companies are getting under Obama. I've worn my fingers out about in comments this AM. That presidential speech was filled with words that meant nothing at all. The damn IMF warned our government yesterday to get a grip on its spending. Do you think Obama listened? Hell no. Ryan made a bold move with his plan. I agree, Obama was one-upped and he didn't like it. We are going to have to make some hard, painful moves to get ourselves out of this mess. It would help if we had adults running the government instead of aging socialists from the 60s. His speech was the same old Democratic Party talking points of how unfair it is for someone to work all their life and become rich, how the rich aren't paying any taxes, blah, blah, blah. I can almost write his speech for him based on the liberal talking points.

Stu From VT 5 years ago

The reelection campaign is fuzzy, kickoffs are behind us, but pursuit of class warfare is well alive. Karl Marx wouldn't blush, but he'd approve. Obama belongs on the garbage heap of history. Even though he is our president, he hates us. At a moral level, and quite possibly a legal level, he is a traitor. I know Holder would never hold "his people" to account for their wrongdoings, but this in no way obviates the illegality of Obama's actions, at a root veridical level. The two of them should be hung up as traitors to America. When I think of great men like Nathan Hale, who were murdered for doing nothing wrong, and these two viscious anti-American traitors in positions of high official power with no controls over them, it makes me very ashamed how low we have sunk.

Stu :(

David - I penned this before, not after, his speech. Obama is too easy to read, as most progressives are, and I knew what was coming.

In 2012, we need some real change and not empty words. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments.

Yes, you did hit it right on the head. I also noticed he made it so no matter what happens, he won't be blamed for it. If nothing else he is smooth.

He also for the first time I recall admitted he was a Progressive as he said he had a Progressive agenda, something Progressives never like to admit there is.

And the newest definition from the Obama White House Tax Reduction Spending or Tax increases.

Boy I am sure going to miss him when he is gone.
