Who Owns The Economy Now Debbie Downer?

The DNC's Gift That Keeps On Giving

I love the fact that no one has thrown a muzzle on Debbie Downer - YET! I'm just wondering how long it will take before Obama calls her in on the carpet and tells her to shut the hell up. Sometimes I wonder if DWS and I are living in the same country much less on the same planet.

Here's Downer's latest case of "foot in mouth" disease. Her words not mine.

“We own the economy. We own the beginning of the turnaround and we want to make sure that we continue that pace of recovery, not go back to the policies of the past under the Bush administration that put us in the ditch in the first place,” Wasserman Schultz told Mike Allen at a breakfast hosted by POLITICO’s Playbook.

The economy, she said, “has turned around” since President Obama took office, with steady job growth evident even if the pace leaves something to be desired.

She used the word "recovery." What recovery? She and her pals passed a stimulus bill that cost the US tax payer, and future generations, about $862 billion. It produced how many jobs. Don't count the saved ones Debbie. How many "shovel ready" projects were produced Downer? If I remember correctly, unemployment wouldn't rise above 8% if our money was at risk. It stands at about 9.1% now so take credit for that too while you're patting Obama on the back. So lets take a look at what he said and then he had the gall, which he has a lot of, to chuckle it up that shovel ready wasn't exactly shovel ready. Of course it wasn't. I worked on a planning commission and it takes years and years to get a project off the ground.

He finds it amusing?

Lets give credit where credit is due, especially to a hypocrite like Wasserman Schultz. I'm wondering when the last time she went to the grocery store was? I wonder if she ever pulls up to the gas pump? I'm part of the "Sticky Note Campaign." When I pull up to the pump I have a large pad of those Post It Notes. On each is written, "How's That Hope And Change Workin' Out For You?" It hasn't done a thing for me.

I'm wondering if this woman believes in fairy tales, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. It might be nice if she stuck to the facts. There is no recovery to claim credit for Wasserman Schultz. What there actually has been is continuing to throw good money after bad in an effort to perform the Democrat's usual smoke and mirrors act. I'm not sure the American public is biting the hook on this deal. He doesn't have a clue about how to fix the economy. The Keynesian approach failed again.

Lets take a look at the actual facts. If these are indicators of an economic recovery then I'm really a frog that turns into a prince. With unemployment sitting at over 9%, foreclosures exceeding 6 million units and climbing, the loss of 865,000 manufacturing jobs and approximately 1 million construction jobs (my field of endeavor) and adding a whooping $3.7 trillion and counting of debt to our national deficit, she defines that as a recovery? Obama has had three straight record high deficits. All leading economic indicators are down and all commodity prices are up. What an equation for an economic recovery is this dunce using. So we're in a recovery? From what? Stupidity? BINGO!

Being a bit uncertain about just how far Debbie Downer is capable of shoving her foot is a complete mystery. She reminds me of a want ad for being the Chair of the DNC. It reads, "Anyone who speaks the truth, need not apply." That was right up her alley so she applied and got the job.

The Republicans and Democrats are in agreement somewhat about this one. They are both enjoying Downer's performance to date. Presented on one side is a gaffing attack dog. The Republicans like that because the majority of Americans don't care for such an animal. They see through it. The Democrats claim that with the exception of her having a severe case of foot-in-mouth disease (they call it a few missteps) she is growing into her new role. Grow, Debbie, Grow! According to them she is galvanizing fund raising and solidifying the party's liberal base.

Strange! Liberals comprise 20% of the electorate. The rest of us are over to the center and right of that. So you galvanize 20% and alienate 80%. Wonderful! GROW - Debbie - GROW! In fact, go to a larger shoe size!!!

Please Don't Muzzle Morons

Yes Debbie, Obama and your party do indeed own the economy. You wanted it, you got it and you're sending it further into the tank. The time for blaming Bush is long past. Have a back bone like Reagan did. Did he complain about the absolute disaster Carter left him? No, he did not. He rolled up his sleeves and tackled it head on. He wasn't a finger pointer, he was a leader.

So You Wanted Change Did You?

Of course I agree with you, but like a little kid who blames everything on his brother, this administration will continue to try and spin the fairy tale. The do so because they have very little regard for the intelligence of the American people. I'm sure they are confidant that if they say the economy is recovering enough times the lemmings will follow along.Up and useful and awesome too!

BPOP - Goebbels stated it well, "If you keep repeating it often enough people will believe it." Propaganda isn't going to make the economy recover either. Sound economic leadership will though. Don't hold your breath with an ideologue like Obama though. I do know CPR however...

She has been handed the mantel from Weeniedog. And now I am sure Obama and Nancy just want her to shut the f**k up ! LOL

Debbie is no better for the Democratic party than Michael Steele was for the GOP. While she is passionate and I believe she does care, she is clearly the wrong choice

She's not a leader, she is a bumper slogan talking head.

LRC - Well, we agree on at least Debbie Downer. BTW, I also replied to your last post on the NPD article and referenced this article. Look at the economic data presented here. Those are easily verifiable facts. I'll copy and paste them for you.

"Lets take a look at the actual facts. If these are indicators of an economic recovery then I'm really a frog that turns into a prince. Many people polled don't think we've ever left a recession. I am one of them since I am a small business owner and see the economy up close and personal.

I believe liberals have direct communication with unknown forces that give them the answers to such heady problems. What other way could it be.When I talk to a friend of mine who is educated he comes up with things out of the blue. Certainly things I would not have thought of and makes little sense to me.

The Frog Prince profile image

daholund - Being educated myself, I didn't learn common sense in college. They don't teach that subject. That is learned through experience. You either learn it and have it or you don't.

alastar packer 5 years ago

You're right Frog, they sure didn't teach me any common sense in tech school..that came-what little i have- from living life. Didn't know that liberals only make up 20% of the electorate. And Frog when all factors are taken in isn't the unemployment rate actually much higher? I mostly get my center and right here on the Hp and the lib from FB. Sometimes the difference leaves me in Alice in Wonderland. But I do try to see both sides. One of those sides is kinda slipping off the coin. Thanks Palmetto friend.

The Frog Prince profile image

The Frog Prince 5 years ago from Arlington, TX Author

Alastar - Depending upon the source, the actual unemployment rate is somewhere between 17% - 23%. That takes into account those whose benefits have run out. They are chronically unemployed. There are people who have given up on looking. Some people don't qualify for compensation. The Labor Department statistics are somewhat misleading because they omit the chronically unemployed from the reporting data.

As I came here to check the responses, I had just finished reading some material on the Drudge Report. Quite a bit there. Check it out.

The unemployment rate is bogus as you have added needed criteria to even make it a useful stat.

I think the worse things get, the more we will be hearing this from the left - that it is all Bush's fault. They will forever blame the failure of this administration to GWB.

Many know better - because of the job-killing Obamacare, the situation went from bad to worse.

Pat Potts 5 years ago

The Obama administration has been a complete failure as he has disregarded small businesses and job creation in the private sector. Relying on government spending in a market that is not recovering. We are in a real crisis, and yes HE OWNS IT. Just like Carter owned it. To bad they don't see it that way.

Pat - Strange how he takes over a problem and makes it worse then wants to blame the previous administration. Seems DWS is his mouth piece now but not a very credible one. More of a loose cannon IMHO.

frog, I read since the stimulus bill was passed, this country has lost an estimated 1.2 million jobs. Some reports are that this is the low-ball number. I tend to agree. I also hope and pray that Debbie keeps putting her foot in her mouth. She is the Republican Party's secret weapon. Her mouth will continue to attract attention. Notice how silent NOW was after Obama said she was "cute?" If W had said that, can you imagine the outrage. I don't see the attractiveness about her with that "shock and awe" hair of hers. She is dumb and shoots off at the mouth in the tradition of Joe Biden (another Republican secret weapon).

As for the "recovery;" I guess if you tell a lie enough times, people will start believing it. This is what the Democratic Party hopes. These lies along with their Mediscare tactics are not going to work this time. I do believe this time the American voters want substance, and not style in their next president. The #1 concern is the economy and jobs. That is a real vulnerability for Obama. I don't like Romney, I don't trust him. But, I would take him in a New York minute over Obama. Obama is now the most dangerous U.S. President in history. He is ignoring the U.S. Constitution, imposing an overbearing federal government into the private lives of Americans, getting us involved in at least 4 wars with no exit plan, and has a corrupt administration that puts the administration of President Ulysses S. Grant to shame. If the Republicans don't screw it up as John McCain did, they should beat Obama. He is very weak. If they don't beat this guy, then the Republicans need to just give up.

Pat Potts 5 years ago

Sometimes I believe he set out to do this. To bankrupt this country, cause civil unrest and declare martial law. That way he is able to rebuild the country the way he wants to and that would be a socialist country that he's always wanted. We better wake up.

Debbie Washerwoman Schultz reminds me of that great Karl Rove line; are you going to believe me or your Lying Eyes?

Well Washerwoman says the economy is in full recovery despite your list of endless facts to the contrary. But as you know the Kool Aid Drinkers will follow old Washerwoman and Barrackie Boo to the end as they stand there in their Keds, sipping their Kool Aid and wait patiently for Hale Bop to come back around and fix this mess that George Bush left!

David - That's was Goebbels line and belief as the Minister of Propaganda. He actually pulled it off as history indicates. The blind allegiance to anyone is what concerns me. So far, the Do Nothing Party is doing what it does best when they are out of power - NOTHING.

Pat - I think you know where I stand on that issue. Herman Cain, in a recent interview, stated that he, at first, didn't want to believe that what he is seeing was intentional. But then pointed out that Obama is an intelligent man (I agree with that) so if it isn't intentional he is plain stupid, which I don' think he is in the least bit. Obama knows exactly what he is doing. The "why" remains to be seen.

partisan - When you don't know what to do, find blame with some one else. Of course Obama has nothing to do with it. BS!

Froggie: There was a Financial News Report came out Friday Morning on CTV Morning News that stated that between Canada and the USA. both countries had enough untapped oil in the ground to surpass OPEC 100 times over. We are apparently sitting on over (200 MILLION BARRELS) of crude. The question in my mind is if this is true, then why are both of our countries buying oil from OPEC and reducing the price of oil and gasoline for our own countries. It makes no sense at all for our two countries to simply sit on such wealth and pay other countries for this when we collectively could put OPEC out of business forcing them to get in line with world needs rather than bleeding countries like they are doing.

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Hi Dave,

The CTV report is nonsense. Canada has alot of oil in tar sands, and the US has alot of proven natural gas. But Obama is refusing to let us drill, or let us build a pipeline to the Canadian tar sands. Thus we have no exploration activity in the US. There could in fact be alot more oil in the US, but unless extraction and distribution are allowed, who's going to spend money on exploration?

The Frog Prince profile image

STU - I suggest you search "Bakken." Then read what the USGS website has to say about the Bakken. What Dave said here isn't nonsense in the least.

They are currently extracting oil in Bakken using a new horizontal drilling process. One of the problems that is being faced is having insufficient capacity to move the crude to the refineries. That's a whole different problem to solve.

What frightens me the most about these people is that they remain in power, and probably will so remain until I die (earlier than I should because Obamacare will not give me the help I need - I'm already too old.).

As Helen Keller once said: (And don't forget what would now be "disabilities and the Government pays you to stay home - myself included.)

Helen Keller said:"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."

THIS guy doesn't know beans from bacon - he hates this Country SO much that he simply can't stop himself from NOT following the plan that's been laid for him - he thinks he can do better.

B.S. This type of mistake shows his true colors.

Frog, Dave,

Saudi proven reserves are estimated to be 267 billion barrels. Bakken proven reserves (95% confidence) are 3 billion barrels. This goes up to 45 billion barrels at 50% confidence. The ANWR may have about three times as much as Bakken. At 95% confidence, that puts the total for the two at 12 billion barrels. Nothing to sneeze at, but we need alot more exploration. The high confidence numbers for the two fields amounts to about 20 months of US oil consumption.

Note the numbers above in regard to Bakken relate to recoverable oil. I realize there are some estimates out there that the Bakken field might contain up to 500 billion barrels. But this is not an important figure. The question is how much is recoverable at an economic cost level. Undoubtedly horizontal drilling in combination with artificial liquid pressure pressure pumping ("frakking") will make heretofore pointless extraction feasible. But my main point is that we need to start drilling, so oil companies have an incentive to explore Bakken and ANWR in much greater scope, and figure out what the high confidence numbers are for economically extractable oil.

I'm not in any way saying that the final result will be limited to my 20 month estimate. My point is that unless explore, we won't know the real answer. It could very well be true that Bakken and ANWR combined could have trillions of barrels of oil, maybe multiples of what Saudi Arabia has. The problem is that unlike Saudi Arabia, you can't just drill a (relatively) short, cheap vertical hole, and pump it out. You're dealing more expensive extraction, and in the case of ANWR, severe weather conditions.

We definitely should be moving forward on both these fields, but we shouldn't count our chickens before they're hatched. We just don't know for sure how much oil is there, and how much of it can be extracted at a reasonable price.

But it does gall me that we aren't drilling and exploring. Even if the final results are that these fields can't meet all of our oil needs, the ability for them to meet a reasonable percentage of our needs would force OPEC to reduce the monopoly premium they embed in their crude. We could end up big winners even if we don't obtain 100% oil independence from these fields.

Stu

The Frog Prince profile image

Stu - As technology develops more oil will be recoverable. Careful not to out think the experts in the field with theory.

Stu From VT 5 years ago

Hi Frog,

Totally agree. But I think my points are valid. There could actually be about 2 trillion barrels in Bakken and ANWR combined (about 8 times what Saudi Arabia has), but we don't know yet how much can be economically extracted (at present we can only be reasonably certain of a total of about 10-15 billion barrels). And in addition to the extraction cost issue, you also have crude quality questions. While Bakken is known to have decent amounts of light sweet crude, we don't know yet what lies under ANWR. Refinement costs for this oil are still a question.
