Presidential Polls

The 2012 presidential campaign is down to the wire.

According to Dick Morris (former adviser to President bill Clinton), there have been more national and state polls than any previous presidential campaign.

As such, there are polls all over the place from those well known such as Gallup and Rasmussen to McClatchy/Marist which most people have never heard of.

The problem with all of these polls is trying to interpret them.

It seems that if the media is not happy with the results of a particular poll, they try to explain it as “statistical clutter”. What is that all about?

A perfect example was on October 25, 2012, when suddenly an ABC/Washington Post poll showed Romney jumping 50% to 47% for President Obama, the next day on October 26, the poll was back down to 49% for Romney while still 47% for the president. ABC/Washington Post explained the drop by one point for Romney as “statistical clutter” without any further explanation (although there appeared to be the implication that Romney's 50% showing the previous day was not real).

This was in comparison to both Rasmussen and Gallop which have had Romney running 50% for over a week and Gallop had Romney up to 52% at one point and now has him back to 51%.

Carl Rove, Dick Morris, Newt Gingrich and the leading pollsters have all said that no presidential challenger hitting 50% for more than seven days in the final two weeks of the campaign has lost the election.

On the other hand, no sitting president has ever been re-elected without being at 50% or above within the final two weeks prior to the election.

President Obama has not been at 50% in any major national poll since April of this year.

In full disclosure however, according to Real Clear Politics, the president is currently at 50% in the WashTimes/JZ Analytics* poll which is an openly liberal biased poll and among registered and not likely voters.

The conclusion for many is that there is an attempt being made by the media to suppress the truth and manipulate the vote. That is a decision only you can the voter can make.

More importantly, for those of us who live and work in the Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley of Texas, is how will we vote? Who and what matters to us?

The Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley of Texas is predominantly Democratic compared to the Republican predominance of the majority of Texas.

Many in the Rio Grande Valley voted for President Obama in the last election even though Senator John McCain carried the state of Texas.

This time however (according to many newspaper letters to the editor and radio talk shows), many voters are stating their displeasure with the president; especially not keeping his promises.

As such, it would be very interesting to know where those who live in the Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley of Texas stand and what their voting intentions are at the present time.

Please take time to complete the poll and enter your comments.

Much thanks in advance to those of you voting in our straw poll.

Please remember that this is a straw poll and based solely on YOUR Honor and NOT scientific so please vote ONLY once. Thanks again for voting.

Great article. Very knowledgeable. If Obama is re-elated it could be the worst recession or depression we have ever seen and we cannot take that here in the RGV.
