Why Hydroelectric Energy is Better
Hydroelectric, it is among the cleanest, cheapest, most sustainable compare to other alternative energy.Solar and wind energy, the sun don't shine at night and the wind can't blow all the time. However water will always flow, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 12 months a years.
In America, we generate the electricity by either fossil fuels or nuclear energy. That is damaging the environment, only 13% are actually clean energy. Only 7% power generation in the US is hydroelectric energy, it is more than half of the clean energy.
Hydroelectric produce 97% of the renewable energy generated worldwide, and 20% of electricity generated is by hydroelectric energy.
Hydroelectric has a lot of advantages, its low power cost, it cost 3-5 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). The stations also have a very long life span, up to 50 years. The process of making electricity doesn't need fossil fuels, it is very clean. The modern turbine can convert nearly 90% of the amount of energy to electricity, but fossil fuels can only turn 50% to electricity.
It has no emissions, it does not damage the atmosphere or the air we breath. So by using hydroelectric prevent 22 billions gallons of oil and 120 millions tons of coals being burn each year. That by the way is a huge amount of emission save.
Hydroelectric energy is also a renewable energy which means the water can be use for a lots of different things rather than powering electricity, and one of them is storing drinking water. Rainwater collected in the dam reservoir. It can also be use for irrigation systems.
Hydroelectric vs Non-renewable Energy Source
It is very clear that many countries use more non-friendly environmental energy to power the electricity. These non-renewable energy are include burning coal and natural gases, and nuclear power. Unlike the non-renewable energy, hydroelectric doesn't produce solid waste, coal produce ash and nuclear energy produce radioactive waste.
