Why Go To Work? Sit Home, Smoke Weed And Chill Out...

It's critical before you start commenting below to listen to this video about Lucy, You see Lucy is a societal leech and blood sucker. This attitude is more prevalent than our bleeding heart liberals may think it is. I've spent some time down the hoods on occasion so have a fair scope of how it seems to work. Now before you go shouting "racist" let me say that "hoods" can consist of all races. But they are there.

So listen to this carefully and absorb what the attitude is.

This is hard to swallow for the many millions of Americans who spend half of their lives slaving away making ends meet for their families while many millions more (yes, millions) sit on the porch waiting for Uncle Sugar to dole out their next monthly benefits. Take a trip down to the hood sometime and keep your eyes open while you're down there.

The whole welfare system has been corrupted and is a fast and loose system. Why should she work she asks? The woman hasn't even done the math of how much she is scamming the rest of us for. Do you ever wonder why all these emergency funds and subsidizes for this, that and the other aren't more closely monitored to require the recipients to purchase what they need? Lucy has no intention of getting off welfare so the help she is getting she thinks of as a right.

The sad fact is that a system has been developed with no cross checks and known to be rife with fraud, waste and abuse is allowed to continue pretty well unchecked. Obama has made it worse rather than better. Clinton instituted a loose system of checks that welfare recipients had to be doing something to better there plight than be a Lucy. Obama has thrown that to the wind. Democratic politicians are all for it because that is a large part of their voter base - people who don't want to work.

What is wrong with developing a system where you give a person a hand up in order to allow them to become a contributing member of society? It's easier to develop a system where people quickly learn that it is easier to do nothing but put your hand out? but just relax because you're working for them. Whatchu talking about Frog? Yes, you are going to work and the government happily deducts too much money from your paycheck to subsidize the Lucy's of the world.

Obama is a big one for the redistribution of wealth. He believes in punishing the producers to accommodate the moochers. That why I call politicians the looters of our society. They are essentially confiscating our money in order to redistribute it to those who have no desire to work.

I'm a Texan and that radio interview was done in Austin, maybe one of the only liberal Meccas in this great state. She likes that free money. In her own words she "gets to sit home… I get to go visit my friends all day… I even get to smoke weed…" There is no consideration on her part at whose expense she is allowed this life style. Or these choice tidbits? "Me and people that I know that are illegal immigrants that don’t contribute to society, we still gonna get paid." and "Our check’s gonna come in the mail every month… and it’s gonna be on time… and we get subsidized housing… we even get presents delivered for our kids on Christmas… Why should I work?"

It's a scary thought but maybe the AFL-CIO is thinking of unionizing these non-contributors. Lucy mocks the contributors of society because she isn't stupid enough to work in essence. "Ya’ll get the benefit of saying “oh, look at me, I’m a better person, but when ya’ll sit at home behind ya’lls 'I’m a better person'… we the ones gettin’ paid!"

I am concerned about our federal government promoting the type of value system Lucy displays here. It is promoting such conduct with things like "Obamaphones." Lucy seems proud that she has one. Can you really blame her she asks?

An few facts:

  • "Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released in October by the Census Bureau."
  • "There were 108,592,000 people who fit the description of a means-tested benefit recipient in the fourth quarter of 2011 were 82,457,000 people in households receiving Medicaid; 49,073,000 beneficiaries of food stamps; 20,223,000 on Supplemental Security Income; 23,228,000 in the Women, Infants and Children program; 13,433,000 in public or subsidized rental housing; and 5,854,000 in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program."
  • Among that number there were "people getting free or reduced-price lunch or breakfast, state-administered supplemental security income and means-tested veterans pensions.

Means testing is done in a welfare system consisting of 79 federal programs. Those programs provide cash, housing SNAP benefits, medical care, all forms of social services, training and target education to poor and low-income folks. The cost in 2011 was approximately $927 billion and it has grown since then to well over a trillion dollars.

What we seem to have done is develop this huge Nanny State that the Lucy's of the world thrive upon. Now according to Obama "we aren't spending lavishly on a whole bunch of social programs." What planet is the dude living on? It's over a trillion now and growing. I'd hate to see what Obama calls "lavish spending." Wait! I just have to look at the money the Obama's spend on just vacations on our dime and I get a clearer picture.

You know what you just did Frog? You just demonstrated how this country has, long ago, gone over the cliff of cradle to grave state dependency from which there is no turning back. There is no way to cut people like Lucy off, and probably the only cure would be to have such a booming economy where success and prosperity was yours for the taking. Exactly why this administration doesn't want to do anything that will create that economic boom.

There is no turning back...it will never happen because the country has gone over the cliff and is in free fall and you can't stop a free fall. Lex Luther is at the helm with Kryptonite in each hand and there is no Superman on the horizon who can fly out of nowhere to scoop Lois up before she is dashed to pieces on the rocks of mediocrity below.

With a couple generations of Lucy's now living among us, I don't give this country more than just a few years before it grinds to a halt. The money will run out when the takers outnumber the givers. Unless they plan on raising the tax rate to 100% on those who still work, simple math tells the tale.

The Lucy's of the world have no job training or skills for sale, and most likely would never earn more than minimum wage. It is doubtful that they could ever compete in the work place because they have little or no job experience. To the Lucy types, the world is a commune where one exists with as little output as possible. Most commune's fail because the takers soon outnumber the givers.

We now live in a government created commune and it will fail.

Excellent hub, the welfare society is becoming more prevalent. It seems that many people are proud to live on the dole. They are socioeconomic vampires of the most insidious and abysmal order.

I agree with you Old Poolman, the country can't go much further with the anchor of society pulling it down. There needs to be some major reform so that people are taking care of themselves and not dependent on others.

I've heard alot of interviews like this. Even without committing application fraud, a family of four can now receive about $40,000 per year in federal/state combined cash and in-kind benefits, and almost all of it is tax free. It's no wonder there are so many Lucy's. We are now spending $1 trillion per year in federal transfer payments alone, including means tested programs, SS, and Medicare. That's 25% of a federal budget that has to be 33% borrowed, largely from foreigners. What happens when the foreigners get scared of monetization and stop rolling over their T-bonds? That will force the very monetization the foreign sovereign wealth funds are afraid of. This will cause a dollar collapse and a catastrophic interest rate spike. The market value of family savings will be mostly erased. Unemployment will skyrocket as business borrowing costs become too high to pay back and job creating investment is greatly curtailed. And the "Lucy's" will be out of luck because destruction of the jobs base will decimate the tax base - at that point the federal largesse will HAVE to be cut back drastically. Even unemployment benefits may have to be greatly reduced or ended. To quote the late Baroness Thatcher from a speech given in Colorado Springs many years ago, "Socialism collapses when you run out of other peoples' money."

Wait a second!! Somebody has to stand up to this stereotyping madness. Somebody has to stand and yell at you that there are not that many Lucy's in the US.

Somebody has to cry out against you rich dogs that gain your wealth on the poor huddled masses that just want to work. Somebody has to stand up to you with the proper party line that we must take more care of those who do not work.

I heard that there are 7% that approve of Obamacare. About 35% that approve of the president. Could it be that there are even less? As in no one who can write?

Ericdierker - I am having difficulty deciding if you are serious or pulling our leg a little bit.

The amount of money paid out monthly for "Entitlements" would prove there are a great many Lucy's in the US. The number of Lucy's is growing by leaps and bounds.

I worked for a number of different employers during my lifetime. One thing I remember for certain is that not a single one of them were poor. Those fat cats allowed me to live pretty well and take good care of my family.

Your last paragraph goes right over my head. What did you mean "As in no one who can write?"

Mike, trust me, when you are having that particular difficulty it is best to say

OOOOkaaaayyyy.... and go to lunch.

Frog,

It is called depravity and amorality. Lucy has no moral base, no Standard by which to live. She cannot even understand the argumentation against her behavior. The answer to her million dollar question is No! If the money has been stolen from someone else, then No! I do not want it. This she can not see anymore than a blind person can see the sun on a clear day at noon.

The Bible says Do not steal, period. No conditions--that is the commandment. Socialism is satanic because it is founded upon this violation of God's clear laws. The answer to her question of why not take it will be made clear to her--regardless of obtuseness and blindness--on Judgement Day when God judges each of us for our actions or lack thereof.

Guys Eric wasn't being straight with you there.

FitnezzJim profile image

But Eric is partially right. There are folks who feel trapped by the benefits they get from the current system. If they try to work, or have other sources of income, that disqualifies them from getting the benefits. $1300 a month can be a big gap to overcome when jobs are scarce and you are not guaranteed a steady working income. They give up in frustration, and ask ‘why should I work when I’m getting all I need for not working’?

But then again, there are folks who are raised to be Lucy's. It takes all kinds to break a nation.

Old Poolman profile image

Old Poolman 3 years ago from Rural Arizona

FitnezzJim is absolutely correct. Most job openings today are for part-time work at minimum wage. The entitlement recipient would take a big pay cut to go to work. The system is designed to get you into the program and keep you there. Very few want to bite the hand that feeds them.

You are on the mark with that graphic: 'Welfare was never intended to be a career opportunity.' But that is exactly what it has become for so many folks. How can we make that Lucy video go viral?

Speaking of jobs, did you read, Jim, about the credibility of the monthly jobs data which I have long doubted. An errant (?) census employee fabricated data to show a higher number of jobs created to help drop the unemployment rate in September 2012, just in time for President Obama to get re-elected. Why am I not surprised?
