Why Was Trayvon Martin Shot And Killed By George Zimmerman?

Why Was Trayvon Martin Shot And Killed By George Zimmerman?

He was just making a run to the store to get some refreshments for himself and his brother in his father's fiancee's gated neighborhood. no crime in that. But, apparently self-appointed neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman thought otherwise.

He had a very different view of the subject. Zimmerman saw the teen as " suspicious" but the only thing the teen was doing was walking back to his father's fiancee's house. The police dispatchers call log show that Zimmerman reported the teen as a "real suspicious looking guy" that "this guy looks like he's up to no good" and that "these a**holes always get away".

Melanie Eversley, in a USA TODAY article on 3.18.2012, wrote that Zimmerman would frequently warn residents to "be careful of young black males". That he "appeared to be fixated on young black males" So the question again is why was Trayvon Martin shot and killed by George Zimmerman?

George Zimmerman

Neighbors Call The Police

Residents called the police department saying that they heard someone screaming for help before hearing a gunshot and the screaming stop. Trayvon's girlfriend was talking with Trayvon on her cellphone right before he was killed. Trayvon was wondering why this guy was following him. Trayvon's girlfriend told him, to run, before she heard his headset drop and he made no further response.

Zimmerman, told the police, that it was he who was crying for, help on the tapes, not trayvon. What? Really? Zimmerman, is 28, weighs around 200 pound. Trayvon Martin was 17 and weighed around 140 pounds. Zimmerman had a 9 mil handgun, the teen had a bag of candy and some iced tea! But, Zimmerman, was afraid and was the, one crying out for help, before he shot and killed the teen? Really? Does anyone believe that?

Give me a break! If he was so easily made to feel, afraid, armed with a handgun, against a teen with a bag of candy and iced tea. Why did he, continue, to follow the teen, when the police dispatcher told him, "we don't need you to do that". He went looking for the teen. Those aren't the actions of, someone, whose afraid, but someone on the hunt! someone looking for trouble! looking for a confrontation!

According, to Chris Tutko, the director of the National Neighborhood Watch program. Zimmerman, was not part of a registered neighborhood watch program. ABC News reports that the neighborhood watch manual states: "It should be emphasized to members that they do not possess police powers. And they shall not carry weapons or pursue vehicles."

The Evidence

Lets look at the evidence.

Zimmerman "appeared to be fixated on young black males". He warned residents to watch-out for young black males. He saw Trayvon as "real suspicious looking". He "looks like he was up to no good". "He looked like" he was on drugs or something" that "these a**holes always get away." The dispatcher told Zimmerman "we don't need you to do that" when Zimmerman said he was pursuing the teen, but, Zimmerman ignored that and continued to pursue the teen anyway. Apparently, Zimmerman decided, that this young black a**hole wasn't going to get away! Trayvon, was guilty, just because was a young black male! He didn't have to do anything wrong! He was guilty by, association, for any wrongs committed by any young black males, real or imagined by Zimmerman.

Zimmerman Ignored The Dispatcher

Zimmerman ignored the dispatcher. He ignored the neighborhood watch manual. (if he ever read it.) He ignored common sense. He ignored everything, except his obsession, with making a young black a**hole, pay for crimes real or imagined in his mind. It looks like he took advantage of the ,opportunity, to carry out his obsession with young black males, by using the Florida self defense law, that states, if you feel threaten whether it's real or imagined, you can use deadly force against a real or imagined threat.

I think Zimmerman, pretended to feel threaten, so he could finally get one of these black a**holes "who usually get away"! That's why he's trying to make himself out to be the victim, incredulously, saying, it was he who was screaming for help on the calls, not Trayvon Martin. Is this guy unbelievable or what! So the question still screams for an answer.
Why Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman?
Was this a classic case of walking while black?

The, police, accepted Zimmerman's self-defense statement at face value, even though he ignored, the dispatcher telling him not to pursue the teen. They had the 911 calls showing that Zimmerman stalked the teen, confronted him then shot and killed him. They, allowed Trayvon's body, to lay in the morgue for days, without calling the last number on his cellphone, to make an effort to contact his relatives. The police department's, actions, were despicable at best, and seem to support Zimmerman's attitude toward young black males.

What do you think?

The Latest On The Case

OK the latest update in the case is that, Zimmerman, claims that Trayvon attacked him. Let's say he did. Zimmerman was told not to follow the teen.

He lied and said he wouldn't but followed the teen anyway. Neighborhood watch programs are not, designed, for its members to, stalk, or follow anyone or to confront anyone, and definitely not for its members to carry firearms.

According to the teen's friend, who was talking to him on the phone, during the incident,Trayvon was afraid and wondering this guy kept following him. When, Zimmerman, finally caught up with him and confronted him. Trayvon probably saw Zimmerman's gun, panicked and attacked him, thinking that he was going to be, shot, which ironically he was anyway.

Apparently, Zimmerman, didn't have on any clothing to identify him as a neighborhood watch person, and didn't verbally identify himself as, one, when he confronted Trayvon. Not to, mention, that he wasn't an official neighborhood watch person, but a self-appointed neighborhood watch person, who broke all the rules about, what a neighborhood watch person should and shouldn't do! So even if things did go down the way he described them, Zimmerman, stills needs to be, arrested, and brought to trial, for all the things he did, to provoke the incident. what do you think?

Didn't Believe Zimmerman Account Of The Shooting

3.28.12. The latest on the case: Chris Serino, the lead investigator the night of the shooting, didn't believe Zimmerman's account of the events and wanted him arrested for manslaughter but was overruled by the state attorney's office. Serino tried for 2 weeks to have Zimmerman arrested but couldn't. I think that's more evidence that something's fishy in this case and it ain't the fish!

3.29.12. Just released police video showing Zimmerman the night of the shooting, after he was detained by the police, doesn't show any bruises or blood on Zimmerman's face or shirt. A friend of Zimmerman said Zimmerman couldn't stop crying after the shooting. No evidence of that in the video either. Zimmerman isn't crying and doesn't look like he has been crying.

What do you think?

4.1.12. Two forensic voice experts working independently of one another conclude that the voice crying for help on the 911 tapes is not George Zimmerman's.

4.10.12. Looks like there will be no grand jury in the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case.

4.11.12. Zimmerman has been arrested and charged with second degree murder. He will plead innocent of all charges.

So how do you think the trial will go? How will it play-out? Will Zimmerman be convicted or not?

Zimmerman will say that after following Trayvon (after being told not to follow him by police) he lost sight of him, was headed back toward his car, when Trayvon confronted him. They fought. He had to shoot Trayvon because he feared for his life. Trayvon's friend, who was talking to Trayvon by cellphone, said Zimmerman confronted Trayvon asking him "What are you doing around here?" So those accounts don't harmonized with each other. Which one do you believe? What do you believe really happened?

At the least, Zimmerman should be convicted of manslaughter, because he took all the actions that led to the deadly confrontation. Even the police say the incident could have been avoided if Zimmerman has stayed in his car and not pursued Martin as he was instructed not to do.

Zimmerman and his wife have been accused of lying to a judge about how much money they had, in order to get a reduced bail payment. Jail recorded phone calls support these accusations. Other phone calls released by the prosecutor show Zimmerman joking about wearing a hoodie as Trayvon Martin was wearing when he was shot and killed by Zimmerman.

His wife talks about how they can safely pick Zimmerman up from jail if he gets bail, “We could have two cars, we could have two rented cars,” . Zimmerman replied “It doesn’t matter if the car that picks him up from jail has tinted windows…Well, I have my hoodie.” Zimmerman said. He must have thought that was funny and laughed but his wife didn't.

A Judge says that Zimmerman and he wife were intending to leave the country with the $130,000 donated by his supporters, that he and his wife lied about having. Now Zimmerman's credibility is considered even more questionable.

Sean Hannity And God's Plan

Zimmerman did an interview with Sean Hannity and apologized to Trayvon Martin's parents for killing their son, but he said didn't regret anything he did that night and that it was God's plan! Martin's parents aren't buying his apology or accepting it.

During the course of the interview Sean Hannity wanted to know if Zimmerman regretted carrying a gun or getting out of his car to follow Martin when he was told not to, Zimmerman replied that he didn't. Saying, "I feel that it was all God's plan, and for me to second guess it or judge it," In other words the killing was ordained by God. (Can you believe this guy?)

Hannity asked Zimmerman if there was anything he might do differently, he replied, "No, sir." (Well there you go)

What Do You Think About Zimmerman Now?

Right after Zimmerman was acquitted of the killing of Trayvon Martin. His wife couldn't wait to leave and divorce him. His lawyers abandoned him and didn't want to be associated with him. He's had numerous run ins with law enforcement. And surprise, surprise, he's been quick to point his gun at his ex wife and his girlfriend. His ex-wife says Zimmerman thinks he's invincible because he beat the rap for killing Martin.

Now that Zimmerman has left a trail of repeated run in's with law enforcement, along with his questionable behavior, of being quick to pull his gun on his ex-wife and his girl friend. To those of you who believed Zimmerman's account of his killing of Martin, without question. Do you still believe he told the whole truth, without question? Or maybe he might have left a few things out?

Or do you think he's an example of a trustworthy, honest, upstanding citizen, whose testimony, you would have no qualms about trusting, whether, it was true or not?

I think it's sickening and that 1) they should arrest and charge Zimmerman immediately and 2) repeal the "stand your ground" laws, which as far as I can tell just make it open season on any minorities and kids and anyone a shooter feels nervous around. There have been at least two other cases already in which the shooter STARTED a fight with someone, WENT HOME to get his weapon, then went back and shot the person and got off for doing it under this law. One of those other people was a skateboarder that was annoying the shooter.

This is like Emmett Till all over again only worse in some ways. It cannot stand.

Tara 4 years ago

I agree with you 100%. It sickens me when someone actually believes that it was Zimmerman crying out for help in the 911 Call. It doesn't take a genius to know better. I've listened to it twice, I don't have the strength to listen to it again because it's too painful, and while I'm no forensic scientist, you have to be high out of your mind to think for one second that was Zimmerman crying out for help, for these reasons:

1. Why would you cry out for help if you are holding a gun?

2. Why did the cries suddenly stop after the gunshot? Wouldn't Zimmerman have continued to cry?

3. The screams sound like they are coming from a 17 year old child rather than a 28 year old grown man.

And you mean to tell me, the only way to deal with a 17 year old "suspicious" looking child who did everything is his power to get away from you, is to shoot him dead? What a coward.

That "Stand Your Ground" Law doesn't pertain to this case, neither does his self-defense claim. Tell me how you could feel threatened for your life by someone who's half your size and almost half your age who is armed with a bag of Skittles and a can of Iced Tea? Are you serious?

I am shaking with the anger I feel and I pray that in time I will get this young man's cries for help out of my head because ever since I heard them, I haven't been able to. Rest In Paradise, Trayvon Martin. You did not die in vain. Justice will be served.

If Zimmerman got punched in the nose, it means he was facing the boy. Why didn't he just pull out his weapon then, and tell the boy to "stand down". There is no way that I believe Zimmerman's story. Why aren't charges being brought against him, even if only with breaking the rules in the neighborhood watch manuel??? Why is he just getting to walk away from a senseless killing???

I don't get that either.

No matter what the "suspicious" behavior was, there's really no world in which someone should kill another human being. In fact, neither of these people should have had a gun in their possession - end of story.

As someone who lives in Detroit, I am quite certain that you are aware that when an incident involves violence, there are always two sides to that story.

And I am also certain that you are aware that, quite often, when a shooting or stabbing occurs, the one that appeared to be innocent was not really the innocent one.

Finally, there are a numerous black men languishing in penitentiaries today because they got convicted of murders in which they just might have been defending their lives.

In other words, as a 65-year-old black man who has had to deal with the law on numerous occasions, I know that it is not cool for people who did not witness a crime to rush to judgment about how it actually went down.

I'm disgusted with this case he should have been arrested a long time ago. Zimmerman had no right to engage Martin. Even if Martin attacked him if he would have stayed in his car none of that would have happened. The real thing that happened is a teenager became terrified and ran from a psycho with good reason to.

Simply outraged!! George Zimmerman is a despicable human being hiding behind an incompatent police force afraid to slap cuffs on him. I have no doubt that this case will set presedent for this kind of situation. George Zimmerman will be tried and he will go to jail for his actions. If nothing is done that city and this country will react and I guarantee those in power will feel the pinch.

I agree. I'm just looking at the facts as the come out and as they appear to me.

I've had an incident with the police were a detective tried to frame me for some simple crime that I didn't commit, but I and my lawyer were able to show that he lied so the case was dropped and never went to court. The prosecutor who the detective worked originally believe the detective version of the events but when he found out the detective lied about having evidence against, he protected the detective, didn't prosecute him. He dropped the charges against me but wrote a statements saying "although we had credible evidence against me the had to drop the charges because the victim didn't identify me as the perpetrator of the crime. The had no credible evidence. The detective said that the victim identified me from a photo array. He never did a photo array with the victim.

So I can see your point and this case from both sides

In fact, in late 2009, I got railroaded by NYPD detectives, and in order to receive justice, I had to lay out nearly $20,000 to a criminal attorney.

And the reason why I got railroaded was, the witnesses to the incident blamed me for being the perpetrator when the truth was, I was defending myself from a perpetrator.

Only God could have helped me if I had not had enough money to retain a good attorney -- and would have had to depend on a public defender to represent me.

In what society can an armed person shoot, for any reason, another unarmed person (child) at all!!! I live in a state where they have the same law. So I can shoot and kill someone, claim self defense, and get away with it?! WOW...

Lets just be real, if this was a white child who had been shot and killed by an African American this whole situation would have turned out much differently. The shooter would have been in jail for life if not fried in the electric chair. This is a 17 year old CHILD, no matter what childish mistakes he may have made he did not deserve to die in this manner. His shooter needs to pay for what he has done..NO IF'S, AND'S, OR BUT'T ABOUT IT.

A 17-year-old male is not a "child." He is a young adult.

In fact, a considerable number of 17-year-olds are presently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and preparing to be assigned to units in Afghanistan.

And so far as that goes, when I was 17, I had a full-time job and was the "man of my house." And a few years after that, I was fighting on the frontlines of the Vietnam War.

Chana 4 years ago

At first I blew this off as another troubled teen who was asking for it. I thought we can't judge until we are in court and get all the facts. Then I actually watched the news and looked at the pictures of this boy and realized he did not have the look of a hardened banger as I have experienced in my life. He had a peaceful, NORMAL, obviously loved look about him. I really started to question what was going on and started to pay attention. Today I heard the 911 call... My blood ran cold. I am a mother. A mother of a 17 year old, precious human being who is good in every way. My ears recognized that sound of a teenaged boy. That broken pubescent voice. This mother knows it too well. All I heard was a little child, scared to death, pleading for someone to save him. He just wanted to go home. I can't stop crying! I can't stop thinking about the horror in his little heart before that monster killed him. The last moments of his life were filled with terror and being absolutely alone. I want that animal to pay. This was hate. Bendejo! Como chingas pinche puto! Death penalty! Better yet let's take him in an abandoned housing tract surrounded by barbed wire fencing, give him a bag of Skittels an ice tea and a hoodie. Give the mother and the father each a 9 mm and just let him loose in the dark, give them night vision, let them chase HIM down like a dirty varmint and while he is screaming for mercy, they both shoot him. I think that is the "measure for measure" justice we need. No more skating past justice no more crooked cops hiding the truth just let the family loose on him and if THEY decide to give him mercy then G-d can finish the decision from there. America! Look at your teenaged sons no matter the race. Look at them and imagine how it would feel to hear your child screaming for help because someone with baseless hatred was hunting them down and YOU couldn't be there to save them! He wasn't a hardened drug slinging gang banger, he was not a menace to society, he just wanted some gosh darn Skittels and a drink. Please make that man pay! Please listen to the 911 call. Please take action! I am going to find that petition right now and sign it. I want to hug that mother. I just can't stop crying...

True and some people want to stick there heads in the sand about it...it's not as bad as it was in the 50's and 60's but it's still present...not just in white people (many white people aren't racists) but in blacks, Arabs, Italians and others but in all these groups there are many people who aren't racists.

First off, why did Zimmerman make a call saying he was following someone "suspicious." There was a lie right there. This 18 yr. old was just walking and talking on the phone to his girlfriend, armed with Skittles and Iced Tea. The girlfriend said that TM told her - someone is following me. The girlfriend told TM to run - sound like he was very afraid of whoever was following him.

Obviously Zimmerman musta started running too - why??? Why would you run after a kid who is just walking down the street? Then Zimmerman caught up with TM - why the altercation - what did the kid do that made Zimmerman follow him??? Once Zimmerman caught up with TM - TM figured this guy is out to hurt me so TM started swinging which is a normal thing to do when confronted by a stranger.

Why didn't Zimmerman, AT ANY POINT, tell TM, hey, I'm not gonna hurt you - I'm a neighborhood watch volunteer. Zimmerman never once identified himself but just kept following an innocent boy who did nothing wrong.

Guess we should all be more careful when we are out walking because you never know where you will meet up with a G. Zimmerman.

You wrote, "...Guess we should all be more careful when we are out walking because you never know where you will meet up with a G. Zimmerman."

Yeah, that's right, and we should also be more careful when we are out walking because you never know when you will get caught in middle of the crossfire between rival black street gangs -- in the same place at the same time as a black mugger or rapist -- or in the line of fire of a car-full of black thugs carrying out a drive-by shooting.

I would like to see the legal process prevail without any reservation of taking sides. And then I'd like to see the "community leaders" help parents understand the need for constant parental supervision for these kinds of predicaments. Kids should be taught to avoid danger--and not invite "standing your ground" [alone] with adults!

However, the sad reality is; Trayvon's odds were much better in that neighborhood of not being killed!

Mojo 4 years ago

The law isn't the issue, it's there so you can protect your home or your car from an attacker. The law doesn't even apply here, since Zimmmerman was the attacker. He initiated the conflict, even if Martin was trying to get his gun, he had no right under that law to shoot him. Martin would've been in the right to disarm and shoot Zimmerman, he was the one being chased by a large armed man.

Trayvon was leaveing his dad girlfriend house to get some candy and come straight home where he is visiting his dad I don't understand how can trayvon get killed almost to his dad girlfriend house and geroge is saying trayvon hit me from behind why hes talking on the phone and then he says he was the one sreaming know one screams when they have a gun its when the other person that don't have a gun that is trying to get home or trying to run for their life this guy geroge don't have any security shirt on or jacket that tell you that hes a security guard or a watchman in the video you see that he does not have a security on him but street clothes on him something is very fishey and this rule stay your ground not good because people like trayvon martin can get shot as they come from their house or anywhere and it can be you or me or any body I really really feel bad and sad for martin family. And I do think this geroge guy should go to prison for what he did because this kid is 17 just turn 17 and coming out of the store of 7 elven with candy and ice tea and its not what he had on its george what he was thinking on his mind and we wont neaver no what was going on in side geroge head every body makes choices in their life and geroge mad a bad one by get out of his car when he disobey the lae by running after trayvon martin something don't add up if I was geroge I would tell the truth because when judgement comes around you are going to be in big trouble bank on it

Sergio 4 years ago

Trayvon was walking back to his dad girl friend house and some guy name geroge says this kid looks like hes up to know good. First of all you have to let him go and watch where he go second of all obey the the law don't get out of your car and third don't take things into your own hands then you can get in big trouble if geroge did the right thing first of all trayvon would be alive today and this stuiped law that they have out stay your ground trayvon would been alive so it their fault to and others that lost their life as well. Know one should lose their life by getting candy and having a hoodie on or anything they wear because onuce you shoot that peson you can't take it back hes dead hes not here any more taking sombodys life is not the answer. People need to wake up and have common sense and that's what geroge did not have common sense. If people stop and think hey let me watch and see where is this kid going or this guy is going. I hate when people just lie and lie geroge figer know one was not around and it was raining theirs no witness hey its my word against hes hes dead so let me tell what they want to hear. So this guy geroge goes home why trayvon martin is dead and trayvon parents with out a son and the killer is not in prison.

This case is very simple... but please someone else explain to us simple-minded-folks how someone who was told to stop pursuing the young man (while in his car) all of a sudden finds himself in a position to kill a young man. Take color out of the picture, forget that he's (Mr. Zimmerman) is Hispanic and Mr. Martin (the kid) is African-American... furthermore put arbitrary colors to them both and it seems to be evident that Mr. Zimmerman was the aggressor, who put himself in a position to claim self-defense or protection under the "stand your ground" law in Florida. What makes this matter worse is that he could have avoided this by just listening to the police and staying in his car. This was a stupid action on Mr. Zimmerman's part. However, the question that comes out of his (stupid) action is whether or not he should be released. I know that many people do stupid things... DWI and killing someone for example but in every case the person is PUT IN JAIL... so.. you be the judge... and explain it to us simple-minded-folks...

Why was that boy left alone; why was he wearing a hood over his head when the weather was not THAT cold? Why would he be in a gated community visiting someone, yet walking ALONE? Why would a teenager be out on a Sunday night (no school the next day???) without being supervised? Why would a man who was doing his job be charged with 2ND degree murder - so that the court system would have to waste money and the prosecutor get placed on the news? Disgusting!

Why does everything come down to race? What about reverse racism? I was tormented (by 5 Black women) for months while deployed almost 10 years ago and still suffer panic attacks when I get in large groups of people. No one would help me because Blacks don't harass Whites. I really am tired of hearing about racism being the issue. First, Zimmerman would have done this to anyone who was out there that day. Second, Zimmerman isn't even white. Third, stand your ground doesn't apply. He pursued. I work hard for what I have and should have the right to protect it against those who think they have the right to take it. Guns don't kill, people kill. This isn't about the 2nd or 14th amendments. Yes, I think Zimmerman is dirty and has penance to society for what he has done. But to what degree and how much still isn't clear. But a price on his head, really? He should suffer a slow death, really? And to think I served in the Army over 20 years so people could say such ugly things and have such hatred in their heart for another living soul whom they don't even know; it really hurts. But I know you wont even understand that. Because I have been on the receiving end of your hatred. To Feenix, thanks for your comments. your an obvious clear thinker and a person of substance.

Can't something have a racial dimension without it coming down to race and nothing else? That's all I think is being said, or suggested--that this incident has a racial dimension, not that it all comes down to race. It's an opportunity to talk about irrational reactions of all kinds, and also to look hard at a law that allows an armed person to pursue, provoke, and kill without due process being applied.

I don't see how a law like that can be good for anyone.

Yes it can and does.

If Zimmerman had been arrested and kept in jail to stand trial. Do you think all this blow-up over the incident would have happened?

No, I don't think this blow up would have happened if he had been immediately charged, arrested, and had to go to trial. I get frustrated when people get mad and say, "stop making this about race!" Well what if it is about race?

I think it's good that this uproar has happened and it could be a chance for everyone to start facing some VERY messed up racial stuff, but instead you get people freaking out and saying, "It isn't about race." But it isn't like just never talking about race makes racism go away. The messed up racial history (and present) of the US is still there, talk about it or not.

Coming pretty close on the heels of the Troy Davis execution, (and before that, the idiotic arrest of Skip Gates in his own home) this Trayvon Martin case is a good opportunity to bring up race. I guess I just want to say to the people who keep hollering "Stop making it about race!"--I just want to say, no, I'll say what I see. I want to say to them, hey you don't get to shut up anybody who makes you uncomfortable.

This kid is dead--possibly for walking while black--but some folks can't even stand being uncomfortable.

I agree.

Some people would rather make this out to be about anything but race( no matter how crazy what they say the "real" cause is). It's like they have a race phobia.

Some people are just really angry because they feel that it's only seen as a racial crime when whites kill blacks but not when blacks kill whites.

They're so resentful and angry because they believe that there is no racism problem in this country. That the real problem is that Democrats, Liberals and blacks are making it seem like there's a racial problem by labeling crimes as racial when their really not.

They angerily believe that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are stirring up all this outrage about Trayvon Martin's death and that there wouldn't be any outrage about it, if they and the Liberal media would just leave the issue alone.

Freyja 4 years ago

I hate to state the obvious, but Zimmerman is Mexican. Not White. That was my point. All I keep hearing is that Whites kill Blacks and get away with it, as it pertains to this case. This isn't a White on Black case. Why must a real problem be brought up that doesn't pertain to this case? When that happens, it lessens the impact when it is a hate crime. Stay focused and on point. Also, "stand your ground" doesn't allow a person to pursue another person. In my opinion, the police messed up on that one. I agree, if he was charged then, I don't think there would be this uproar now.

Point taken.

Zimmerman is said to be Hispanic. Hispanic isn't a race it refers to any Spanish speaking culture and those who live there and their descendants. There are white, black, Indian etc, Hispanics. It's like saying someone is American and not British

I think Zimmerman is supposed to be half Hispanic and half Jewish. Jews are generally seen as white, especially European Jews and their descendants, as are many Hispanic people.

So if we use the "one drop rule" as we've done for hundreds of years with to determine who's black and who's not, Zimmerman is white. And he's obviously perceived that way by many white and black people.

Freyja 4 years ago

I appreciate your email and agree with some of your points. However, the one drop rule, refer to the minority, not the majority.

Hispanic is a minority group. It permits many Americans to special status and many hispanic are still disenfranchised because of their status. I married into an Hispanic family. When asked to check the block "white, black, Asian, Hispanic, etc. Yes, some check white, but most check Hispanic. If I wanted to join an Hispanic club/group, I would not be permitted. Race is more than degrees of color, its culture. Do you think that if Zimmerman wanted to join some right wing white power group, they would have him?

The only reason no one is shouting, down with the Hispanics (or Jews for that matter) is that it doesn't inflame the populous.

This case doesn't need any additional fuel. Just the actions of the government, or lack there of, stand on their own merit. That is what we should be upset with.

4.20.12. New photo shows the back of Zimmerman's head with blood on it giving credence to his statement that his head was injured in his fight with Trayvon Martin.

The injury apparently wasn't very bad or life threatening because Zimmerman was not admitted to a hospital and didn't receive stitches or bandages for his injury the night of the scuffle.

Does this new information prove that he had to shoot Trayvon Martin to save his life?

George Zimmerman can be released on $150,000 bail while he's waiting to go on trial for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said Zimmerman can't have firearms, drink alcohol or use drugs and must observe a curfew. Details will be worked out between Zimmerman's attorney and law enforcement. Zimmerman will not be released today.

I still can't get around "WHY" Zimmerman followed Martin on foot. If Martin had a gun (I'm a 2nd amendment advocate)wouldn't he had been justified in shooting Zimmerman?

Until they can answer the "WHY", I don't see how Zimmerman can be found innocent. He wasn't protecting his property, from what I gather, he wasn't even by his house. Where is the justification?

That's a very good observation!

I didn't think of that.

But you're right Martin would have been justified in shooting or killing Zimmerman if he had a gun or any weapon, including his fists, because he clearly felt threaten.

stupidyanks 4 years ago

A new witness to the Trayvon Martin shooting has come forward, claiming the Florida teen did in fact attack neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, according to media reports.

(Related: Report: New Audio Surfaces of Trayvon Martin Shooter

Zimmerman has said he shot the 17-year-old in self-defense, though Martin was reportedly carrying only a bag of Skittles and an iced tea when he was killed. Despite a loud national outcry, Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged in Martin’s death.

According to Tampa Bay Fox affiliate WTVT-TV, what the witness says he saw could bolster Zimmerman’s claim that he shot Martin in self-defense:

“The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: ‘help, help…and I told him to stop and I was calling 911,” he said.

Trayvon Martin was in a hoodie; Zimmerman was in red.

The witness only wanted to be identified as “John,” and didn’t not want to be shown on camera.

His statements to police were instrumental, because police backed up Zimmerman’s claims, saying those screams on the 911 call are those of Zimmerman.

“When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point,” John said.

You're speculating too...that Zimmmerman didn't start the confrontation and that the witness is telling the truth...maybe what you believe happened is true but until you know for sure...you're speculating that it is true.

stupidyanks 4 years ago

How am I speculating VVeasey? Courts determine the truth based on witnesses, I quoted a witness. Its now gone from not only the defendant lying but to a witness lying as well based on your assumptions. Do you really think that is more feasible, I think you are trying for a conspiracy theory where there isn't one.

I have a question though, why would a guy who wanted to kill a teenager based on race, phone 911, give his name, where he lives, hang up and then go shoot someone? Does that really make much sense?

stupidyanks 4 years ago

You are also incorrect about what you said in an earlier post.... You stated that Zimmerman followed Martin after being told not too. If you listen to the recording you will find you are wrong. They said we don't need you to do that and Zimmerman replied OK!!!! If you listen real close you will also notice that when he was following Martin you could hear the wind hitting the mic on the phone, after he said "OK" it stopped. Funny how none of these reports mention Zimmerman saying "OK" when requested to stop. Total bias in my opinion.

Thanks for your comments

In this hub I say that Zimmerman said ok when the dispatcher told him "we don't need you to do that". Did you even read this hub or do you just have an axe to grind?

The reports I've read all say Zimmerman said Ok, because they printed the transcript of the 911 call.

Zimmerman said Ok but followed Martin anyway.

Zimmerman said he followed Martin but eventually lost sight of Martin and so turned around and started back to his vehicle when Martin ran up behind him and confronted him.

So your idea that Zmmerman didn't follow Martin because you stop hearing the wind is not relevant or true.

The prosecutor and her staff spent many hours and days investigating this incident and filed second degree murder charges against Zimmerman because he racially, profiled Martin, and by his own admission, followed Martin when was he was told not to, so they must be pretty certain that their case against Zimmerman is strong

If Zimmerman would have stayed in his vehicle and obeyed the the dispatcher, Martin wouldn't be dead and there wouldn't have been all of this outrage over this case and we wouldn't be having this conversation don't you agree?

stupidyanks 4 years ago

No not really, there was a lot of public pressure from people not in the know of what happened to press for a murder charge, hence the reason he was charged. Bounty on his head from the panthers, outcry over the Florida law ect. Guess we will have to wait and see what the outcome is. If he is found guilty I am prepared to accept the fact that he is. If he is found innocent are you prepared to accept that he is innocent?

Somehow I think there will be another public outcry if he is found innocent, so really has anything changed in the great USA from the days of hanging witches? No, not really...

stupidyanks 4 years ago

As far as an axe to grind, you have your point of view, I have mine. Showing a picture of a young child at the top of the discussion does nothing for your side of the case, we all look cute and cuddly at that age, so tell me why not post a recent picture of him. Shall I tell you why in my opinion? To make it look like a young boy was shot by and adult!!!

Second of all, you have all ready convicted him and all your posts taint him as guilty. I am playing the devils advocate and as I said above, I am willing to accept the charge, are you and are the vigilante group called the Panthers!!

vveasey profile image

vveasey 4 years ago from Detroit,MI Author

You say "Showing a picture of a young child at the top of the discussion does nothing for your side of the case, we all look cute and cuddly at that age,"

There are two pictures of Trayvon Martin at the beginning of this hub. One younger and one as an older teenager, the older picture doesn't make him look like a cuddly little kid.

You say "you have all ready convicted him and all your posts taint him as guilty".

The detective investigator on the scene the night of the shooting didn't believe Zimmerman's account of what happen and thought there was enough probable cause to arrest him for manslaughter but he was overruled by the now disposed police chief and state attorney. So you see there's good reason to think Zimmerman is culpable in some way for killing Martin.

I think Zimmerman is guilty of the second degree murder charge filed against him or at least manslaughter because he profiled Martin saying he looked suspicious, like he was on drugs or something etc, etc, ?

He said these assholes always get away showing he was already prejudging Martin and had an axe to grind based on his past experiences...like he wanted to make this asshole pay for all the other assholes who got away.

But if the evidence shows that none of this made any difference in the way Zimmerman acted and he's found innocent, I won't have a problem with that verdict. But if the evidence shows the reverse of this and he's not found guilty I will have a problem with it.

You say "I said above, I am willing to accept the charge, are you and are the vigilante group called the Panthers!!"

I can't speak for "the Panthers" they're some wacky black racist group that I have nothing to do with.

95% of the morons commenting on this article along with the author are uninformed idiots.

Learn the law before you open your idiotic mouths. It isn't illegal to follow someone. Trayvon Martin would not be entitled to defend himself from Zimmerman under the law. It isn't stalking and it isn't threatening in a way that one would feel one's life is at risk.

However, Martin physically attacking Zimmerman WAS illegal. You can't justify assault like that, and if that assault was vicious enough Zimmerman is entitled to defend himself with lethal force under the Stand Your Ground Law.

The police can write all they want that the encounter was avoidable, but that doesn't make it illegal.

Martin will not be a sympathetic victim with THC in his system. It looks like Zimmerman was right when he said Martin "looked like he was on drugs".

Smoking weed causes paranoia in some people and can result in outbursts of violence. You can bet the defense will bring this up.

You say "It isn't illegal to follow someone. Trayvon Martin would not be entitled to defend himself from Zimmerman under the law. It isn't stalking and it isn't threatening in a way that one would feel one's life is at risk".

The law states if you feel threaten you can defend yourself obviously Martin felt theaten so the law works for Martin too.

You say "It isn't illegal to follow someone"

Investigator Christopher Serino, who was the investigator on the scene that night, told the prosecutor that the fight could have been avoided if Zimmerman hadn't gotten out of his car and waited until the police came on the scene as he was told to do. He said Zimmerman, should have identified himself as a neighborhood watch person or concerned citizen and try to talk to Martin instead of confronting him. That why Zimmerman is being charged with second degree murder but will probably get convicted of manslaughter.

JON EWALL 4 years ago

Recent reports that the prosecutor withheld important information in discovery may indicate that Zimmerman was attacked prior to shooting the victim. The autopsy of the victim showed that pot was in his procession and that his knuckles were bruised.

The actions of the media, the President (2nd time ), Members of Congress and National Black leaders including the Black Panthers in the early stages were inappropriate and shameful. ABC and NBC admitted doctoring the early tapes to indicate that the event was a racial issue. Mr. Zimmerman appeared in court before the judge , pleaded NOT GUILTY and posted bond.

Should Mr. Zimmerman have his day in court and be found not guilty, will those who condemned him offer their apologies for their despicable and un American actions? TIME WILL TELL!

stupidyanks 4 years ago

VVeasey what hope does your country have when you admitted if he is proved innocent you will have a problem with that verdict. What you are saying is you have no faith in the justice system, and you know better than the courts as a person posting on the net reading tainted NBC, ABC articles.

You never did respond Vveasey - what person would call the police if he had intentions of killing someone? That doesn't make much sense now does it. Why wouldn't he just go out and shoot him and keep his mouth shut?

My opinion, guy walking down the road, a resident of the gated community worried about the latest break ins, see's someone who may be stoned, Zimmerman calls the police, as he is talking to the police Trayvon starts to approach the truck then walks away, Zimmerman follows, gets out of his truck follows and then is told not too, so he turns back to the truck, when he is off the phone he is approached by Trayvon and a fight breaks out, witness says - (the only witness to the fight) that Trayvon is on top, a gun is pulled and the kid is shot......

I don't remember the police report stating that Zimmermans knuckles were damaged, I also don't remember Trayvon having any other damage to his body except the fatal gun shot.... To me that's evidence who was punching and with the cuts to the head, who's head hit or was smashed against the pavement, leading to Zimmerman being on the bottom

stupidyanks 4 years ago

The family's attorney, Ben Crump, said Martin's son had been suspended for 10 days from his high school the day he was shot after traces of marijuana were found in his book bag. Martin's father had said previously Trayvon was suspended after being found in an unauthorized area at the school.

"If he and his friends experimented with marijuana, that is completely irrelevant to George Zimmerman killing their son on the night of Feb. 26," Crump said. "Law enforcement is attempting to demonize and blame the victim."

My other question is to the parents, why allow a kid out at night, no matter where he was going when he was just suspended from school for dope possession. I am no saint and of course I smoked dope when I was younger, but I also know if I was caught with it, I would be in for a world of hurt, and even saying that evening can I go to the store would have put me in a lot more hurt. Parents need to take responsibility as well....

Doesn't say much when the father lies about why his son was suspended either

I don't know if his intentions was to "kill someone" I'm stating what I think just as you are stating what you think. You don't know what was in Zimmerman's mind and neither do I.

But if we're going to play guess what was or wasn't on Zimmeman's mind because he called the police before he shot Martin. OK I'll play. Let see ummm

He could have called the cops so he would have an alibi for shooting Martin, telling them that there was this suspicious looking person walking about, looking like he was on drugs, he looked like he had something in his hand but he couldn't tell what it was (maybe a gun).

But what you think or I think or anybody thinks is just our opinions. They only matter to us or those who agree or disagree with us.

The cops think the incident could have been avoided if Zimmerman would have remained in his vehicle as he was told to do but he didn't. That's why the investigator on the scene wanted Zimmerman arrest for manslaughter. And that does matter because it well have a bearing on the outcome of the trial.

You're doing the very thing you're accusing me of doing you're convicting Martin because he had THC in his system but that doesn't make him guilty. It doesn't matter if he was suspended from school. All that matters is what he was doing during the incident.

Zimmermans neighborhood had been vandalized several times in the prior weeks........hence his wariness of Trayvon and youth.

Zimmermans family tutored black children in his home, a good sign they were not racist.

Zimmerman was getting into his truck as the dispatcher told him when Trayvon attacked.

Trayvon told Zimmerman he would be dead before the night was over and Zimmerman shot him at clost range.......indicating Trayvon was on top of him and trying to hurt him.

Travon was a thug, tatted up, smart mouthed, and in trouble with the law. A good respectful child would still be alive.

George Zimmermans biggest crime is that he has white skin. If he was black there would be no attack. If white people were smart they would spray tan there skin black and live as black men. The police need black faces too. How are they supposed to clean up our streets if they can't do their jobs. Black skin will help the white man. I don't understand why the white man has not tried to get a race change yet. My mom made sure I would not have all these white people problems. She chose a black man to conceive me with. I recommend that George Zimmerman paint his skin black so he don't get raped in jail. White People please stop making those white babies. One of the biggest problems in the black community is there are not enough role models. Not enough blacks in high places. The black community is a mess with single mothers no father figures people having kids that shouldn't be. I believe that if black children see black faces in high places they will have more hope. Even if that means doing turning white men black. Whites have plenty of rolemodels. Problem is blacks respond to color. They need to see someone that looks like them being successful. This plan would really help the black community in the long run. And I think the police could get the rash out of our communities better if they had more black faces. Many black communities are ruined by black thugs and I don't think the white cops can get the job done. I wish we were all the same color I think the world would be a better place.

Zimmerman wanted to be a hero. He saw a young black male and went for it. The least he could have did was ask the kid if he was alright. He called Trayvon a "coon" while he was talking to the dispatcher. Police told him to stand down. He was plainly told to go sit down and not pick on the kid.

My next problem is why that every time a black kid is in a nice neighborhood, the Few racist white people attack that child asking them why were they there. I remember one day I had to Walk home from my little job at a seafood place and the cops stopped me asking me where I was headed. I said home, I lived in a 1million dollar home then. They could not believe a young girl like me lived in a nice place. I have even had teachers treat me funny being the only black in the class. People of color live in nice homes, drive nice cars, not all of us are thugs, killers, rapist. That poor child died because a wannabe cop assassinated him. All the kid had was nest tea and skittles while wearing a hoodie. Something every teenage boy or girl to adult male or female wear. For Pete's sake, He was wearing it in February. George Zimmerman is now giving interviews acting like a celebrity after murdering unarmed Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman gets to tell his version of how he felt threaten. By a 17 year old unarmed black male carrying a can of ice tea and candy and a cell phone WALKING HOME. Zimmerman won’t say why he follow then chase Trayvon Martin! Nor would he tell how Trayvon Martin" who was running from Zimmerman ended up in front of Zimmerman? Trayvon was on foot Zimmerman in a car""!What Zimmerman won’t tell is why he called Trayvon Martin a asshole. A person he never met! Or why he called Trayvon Martin a “ fu$ken Punk” again someone he never ever met. He won’t explain why he told the dispatcher “they always get away....” WHO? He could not be talking about Trayvon Martin he never met or seen Trayvon Marin a day in his life! Or he has seen Trayvon Martin was stalking Trayvon to rape and murder Trayvon to cover up his rape. By claiming self defense!

Sean Hannity a right wing white racist and a supporter of the child molester and child murderer. Could careless about Trayvon Martin in Sean Hannity all young male blacks are criminal and should be murdered! So Zimmerman can count on no hard question! LIKE

1. Mr. Zimmerman why did you see Trayvon Martin as suspicious ?

2. Mr. Zimmerman why did you call Trayvon a asshole someone you never met?

3. Mr. Zimmerman why did you call Trayvon a Fu$ken Punk a person you never met?

4. Mr. Zimmerman after seeing that Trayvon was running away from you why did you chase him

5. Mr. Zimmerman after the dispatcher told you NOT to follow Trayvon Why did you continue?

6. Mr.Zimmerman how many resident knew you were self appointed Watch Captain”!

7. Mr. Zimmerman did the gate community owner send out announcement stating you were a self appointed Watch Captain?

8. Mr. Zimmerman who else works with you as community watch in the gated community?

I am appalled by some of the comments here. What really boggles my mind is that my so called fellow writers are so prejudiced and obviously racist. As aspiring writers and seasoned writers, we need to write TRUTH and not be swayed by any stereotypical or racist attitudes we might have learned or acquired on our own. Name calling should not occur here. As writers we are supposed to have command of the English language. As members of the HP community, w should respect each other's point of view. What surprises me is the inability of some to not be able to think logically. These individuals should not be in a position to influence the public's opinion as they are unable to teach or serve as role models. I believe that HP's admin needs to set guidelines re respect, name calling and derogatory statements. We Hubbers represent and are HP.

As far as the Trayvon Martin case is concerned, I believe that vvasey's article is very well written and researched. Zimmerman appears to be the aggressor as he followed Travon with a loaded gun after being told he should not. Rather than let the police handle the situation, which was their jobs, he decided to take matters into his own hands. As a Mental Health Therapist I would say that Zimmerman has grandiose ideas or delusions of grandeur about himself. Without really thinking about the consequences, he allowed his rage to take over. He was determined to Accost Travon as he saw him as one who didn't fit into

his idea as to what a person looks like that lives in his neighborhood.

In doing so, he ended up shooting and killing a teenager who was having a conversation with his girlfriend while walking home from the convenience store where he purchased skittles and tea. What happened after that, we don't know. W only have Zimmerman's side of the story. Travon's voice has been stilled forever. As far as the voice screaming HELP! on the recording, it seems to me to be a simple matter of the court using voice biometrics. Zimmerman is alive and can give a sample of his voice. All that we the public can do now is wait for the case to be presented to a jury and a decision re guilt rendered. Great job vveasey and very thought provoking!

I agree we will have to wait and see what facts the trial brings.

Right now we know Zimmerman was told not to follow Martin but he did, that there a was fight and he shot and killed Martin. And that the lead investigator on the scene didn't believe Zimmerman's account of what happened and wanted Zimmerman arrested for manslaughter

vveasey profile image

vveasey 3 years ago from Detroit,MI Author

And let's not forget. Zimmerman wasn't an authorized member of any neighborhood watch program and had no authority to do what he did. And he didn't follow the rules of a neighborhood watch program. Which is you don't carry a gun and don't confront anyone, call the police.

OMG..this post is all speculation and assumptions which are dangerous. You have to stop glorifying a gangsta and we was stone cold gangsta as his tweets and FB and Myspace say so, from Martin himself and his friends.. Zim was there to protect his community for Christ sake. He was doing a service as they had continuing robberies and drug dealings. Zim had made MANY 911 calls, not just on blacks but ANYONE who looked like they were up to no good like he said!!! You don't call 911 if you have murder on your menu! One is NOT allowed to beat someone up for following them and that is exactly what Martin did and was used to doing according to his tweets..at his own admission!!! You have to stop talking about Martin like he was in diapers and playing with Fisher Price toys!!! He got his gold teeth and cell phone and tats with the proceeds of his lucrative drug business!!! His parents were totally oblivious to what he was doing as he also was a thief, stealing jewelry! All he had to do was either call 911 or continue on his way to his fathers but he chose the gangsta way and decided to teach Zim a lesson for following him!!! He ambushed Zim and Zim had no way to retreat, he was taken completely by surprise and knocked backwards and then Martin, the unarmed teen jumped on his chest and Zim started screaming for help..why in hell would Martin possibly scream for help? You ppl defending a gangsta need some mental help!! Zim had a broken bloody nose, black eyes and 2 holes in his head!!! Cops took notice to the back of Zims clothes as they were wet and grass stained which says he was flat on his back and Martins wound was at close range and just one..no other wounds..which coincides with Zims story completely! No matter what you ppl ASSUME, this is what happened..There is NO REASON Martin would scream for help, that is so bizarre and ludicrous!!! Remember this, only Zim knows what happened for sure!! But obviously the cops were completely satisfied it was self defense as did the prosecutor as he was not arrested for 45 whole days and without any justifiable cause and no grand jury, they were pressured by the lynch mob to make the arrest!!!!

Zimmerman needs to be punished in some way by the Court, he did not listen and kept following and disregarded the concept of neighborhood watch program. It makes one wonder if where Zimmerman would be today if he did not have all those online donations, to buy his way out of this. So lets be fair and take all the donations from both sides cut it in half and give it to both sides of this trial. It is BS that this is allowed to go on. Zimmerman is guilty of killing a young man going to his Dads house, a NEIGHBOR of Zimmerman's. Zimmerman overstepped his bounds and took it upon himself to do what he did. I sincerely hope and pray that the Court system can see through all this and that hopefully Zimmerman's Defense fund will not be able to buy the Courts. A Boy is tragically Dead, Zimmerman must do some time for this, it is that simple. Oh by the way the color of my skin is considered white. It is too bad that the USA cannot change the description on what the color of our skin has to do for a description of a human being, we are all God's children and the shade of one's skin should not be a concern. Our hearts go out to the Martin family, It is bad for everyone concerned in this trial and their lives will be changed forever. Please remember, it is not the families of the of either side of this, but the real problem here is that Mr.Zimmerman should be put in jail for this crime I feel that if let be free he will just continue to make his own decisions and possibly hurt or kill someone else. I really do not see any remorse in this man's face, it is simply sad. May God comfort the Martin family and the family of Zimmerman's and have the Court and juror's do the right decision and finally put this emotional, sad, and needless, tragedy , behind us for all to start healing. If one makes a bad decision, we are responsible for that decision, no one else and we accept the punishment of the courts, it is the degree of the act of the crime that governs our punishment, and we all know if you have money that can sway the outcome of the punishment. It would truly be sad for this person to go scott free. I feel that this Jury will find it in their hearts to see this through, but rest assured if he does go free, is he really? People like this always screw up after the fact, and hopefully he will not hurt anyone again. The Martin family, brother, all seem like wonderful people and soft spoken and maintain tremendous composure, I do not know if I could do this as well as the Martin family does. May God give the peace and comfort and courage to the Martin's.

Trayvon Martin's friend, Ms. Jentell heard over phone Zimmerman catch up to Martin. Martin asked "why are you following me"

,and Zimmerman only said "what are you doing around here", then quickly she heard a thump or thud and Trayvon said "get off, get off", then the phone went dead. Seems the one restraining Martin turned off the phone, not Martin. Martin was yelling loudly "HELP ME" for awhile in a clear 'still' voice which someone being held down voice would show, not someone who was moving or in a fight. The voice of Martin callling for help is different than the last moments voice of desperate screams as Martin was shot. I hope the jury heard the yells for 'help', two voice experts said the voice is NOT Zimmermans. I strongly believe that Zimmerman held down Martin (he told police he tried to hold him down), and that Martin was desperately trying to 'get away' from this crazy man with the gun and he managed to punch Zimmerman and did get away but was quickly 'tripped' or tackled again. I believe it was Zimmerman who told Martin '"your going to die tonight", 'before' Martin punched him and got free for a moment. I believe Zimmerman mentally tortured Martin with threats and his precious gun right until he killed him. Zimmerman made sure not to leave marks on Martin because he wanted to kill him as his self defense, so he just held him down rolling over with him at times. Zimmerman assaulted policeman in near past and also arrested for domestic violence, he is no meek person, he is a vigilante regected by police dept., craving power to prop up his zero ego. Co workers say he is a mr. jeckle/hyde. Zimmerman told neighbors watch out for young black men and in his 47 police calls he mentions black men off the bat in several, he may not be extreme racist? but he was profiling Martin for being black man responsible for house break ins. If Zim. gets off he will do something similar in future.

Wikepedia stated that if someone is held down they may hit person holding them down to get away. Nothing Zimmerman has said is the truth, it's alllll big big lies, he doesn't want to go to prison. He will get justice one way or another, sooner or later.

an innocent kid was shot down cause of a wannabe cop, I could see if Trayvon was stirring up trouble and doing bad things, but all this kid did was walk to the store and heading back home while Zimmerman stalking him why didn't Zimmerman just watch him from a far and see where this kid was heading why stalk him and stir up trouble. Now this kid is dead while the one who enticed the whole situation is found not guilty, our justice system supports the criminals not the innocent.

This had nothing to do with skin color. Whenever any person believes he has the right to assault any other person he puts himself in the crosshairs. You people who are defending Martin, are foolishly teaching the youth of all races that its okay to think like a street thug and attack people from darkness. When they do, they will die and their blood will be on your hands and not those who invoke their absolute right of self defense.

This is a better written article than the one I was trying to write. I will induldge a little and say, omg! WTH?

I heard that zimmerman didn't pass his cop test and he found out the night he decided to go and pack his gun, go out and play hero. He was stalking! Juror B 37 sounds like she is "uneducated" and she is so full of herself! She was profiling Trayvon's friend who was on the phone, moments before he was shot. I wish I was there! We would of gotten a 2 nd degree murder charge with pre meditation! Pres Obama and Mr. Holder need to do something about this! If not, then neither one is worth a minute of my electricity to watch them.

Voted this up+++ of course, shared and tweeted. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.

Jo Goldsmith11 I agree with you.

One of the witnesses, Rachel Jeantel, who was on the phone with Trayvon Martin, told the jury that Martin was afraid of a "Creepy-ass Cracker" who was following him. He also told her, that the man disappeared, the suddenly reappeared. What I found interesting, when I read this report, was when the report described Rachel Jeantel, the report described her as a nineteen year old Miami woman who was still in high school, and was unable to read cursive writing. What does the inability to read cursive writing have to do with this case?

The fact she can't read cursive writing?

Zimmerman was stalking Martin.

Scott Whitten 3 years ago

I really started doing my own research on this tragedy when ABC got caught doctoring the 911 tapes to make it sound like Zimmerman was using racial epithets. Since then ABC has finally admitted to "enhancing" the 911 tapes and is being unceremoniously sued for their offense.

I am not sure if anyone will ever really know what happened between Zimmerman and Martin? But whatever it was between them I don't believe Zimmerman acted out of racism.

Zimmerman's grandfather is of african descent.

Zimmerman's best friend and business partner of the last decade is of african descent (Said he never heard Zimmerman say a racist thing).

Zimmerman went to his HS prom with a young lady of african american descent.

Zimmerman voted for Obama, the first president of african american descent.

Zimmerman kept an extra set of house keys with his neighbors that were of (you guessed it) of african descent.

Zimmerman openly/publicly protested the Sanford police department for their part in the beating of a homeless man in 2010. The man was of african descent.

Zimmerman mentored young kids in his home. The kids were of african descent.

I don't think Zimmerman was an angel. Yep, he has a spotty past and to be fair so did Martin. But he doesn't sound like some KKK member that has a hard-on to shoot people of color to me.

Yet this case has been made into a "racist white guy that shoots a black guy case" by the media, politicians and civil rights leaders. Why?

If it was about the way the Sanford Police Department handled the case I could understand this. But it hasn't been. And I think that it is a shame. Treating this as a racial crime is irresponsible and divides people. The media, politicians and (so called) civil rights leaders all profit by race baiting the public and dividing us. Don't be fooled.

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio

That is horrible, I mean what the media did. I checked on the facts you put in your comments and they are true.

The media only reports what the media feels will get them more people to watch them, which will get them more money, popularity, etc.

However, Zimmerman did kill a child, who had been visiting his father's fiancé. His father lived in the same gated community that Zimmerman lived in, and Martin was walking home.

It is sad, for all people black and white.

The media should report the truth. Not change it to get better ratings.

What the media did was make things much worse, after they started to report and gave a lot of media coverage and attention to the riots, the riots got worse. Not that they should have kept the riots covered up.

But, the media should report the truth and only the truth.

I'm not saying Zimmerman was a racist but people can make exceptions for certain black people and still have racist feeling toward other black people.

I used to play in a band. I was the only "black" person in the band we played "white" clubs. We played a club where the owner was known for not wanting black bands or black clientele in his bar.

I got to know the owner and the band played there over a 5-6 different months.

One of my band mates heard the owner telling someone how he didn't want any black people frequenting his bar. My band mate said "what about vveasey. He's black?" The owner look surprised and said "Oh he's different. He ok" He made an exception for me because he knew me and liked me

The moral of the story is:

just because some has connections to "black" people doesn't mean they automatically won't have racist feeling toward other black people.

Our psychological make up is a little more complicated than that.

This applies to black people's attitudes toward white people and other ethnic groups attitudes as well

People defending Martin keep leaving out facts, altering facts, and exaggerating facts. Martin was a foolish 17 year old kid who ran home, and then at the encouragement of Rachel Jeantel, hunted Zimmerman down and assaulted him. Silly negro. You did not know he had a gun.

You should have stayed home.

SO everyone is going to ignore the fact that the parents should be questioned and charged with child neglect? I mean come on now guy, his mother kicked him out because she could not handle his "fightn" and his father didn't even know where his son was, hence him not knowing that his son was dead until the next day?! Come on guys lets let the race card go and begin to accept the fact that because of his parents not giving a shit he is dead. I believe justice should be for Zimmerman because he was in jail for a month when no charges were charged on him whatsoever $6. Zimmerman should be getting an apology from Trayvons parents because they raised a "gangsta". You all are as blind as the government wants you to be.

Issue is not really about Sanford , Fl. No, it IS about Chicago, where black boys COULD BE Obama's child. THERE, black boys are routinely killed by black boys. If we TRULY CARED about black boys, this would be addressed. GOVERNMENT CAUSED this, not white rackets.

Until we really address absenteeism in schools, drug dealing thugs, children born without a guiding, firm paternal hand, the race baiters like Sharpton and Holder and Obama will to thrive.

Fox interview with alternative juror was great. He gave an excellent timeline analysis. When TM told Jentel he is safe (ala at her fathers condo) and end the cellphone call (time was logged by phone record) GZ told the police that he will get out of his SUV to see where TM went (that end of the call was also logged by phone record). Both calls ended approximately the same time. When the cops arrived they found the two injured men on the lawn near GZ SUV then near Jentel father’s condo. Alternate juror explained based on location and timeline, Martin chose not to enter condo but turn around to find GZ. In juror mind any attempt to link GZ to manslaughter for initiating events leading to shooting just not possible, because Martin became the initiator. The timeline info and location also leans towards GZ version that TM confronted him as he was returning to his SUV then the DA allegation that GZ was hunting for TM and causing a confrontation.

In post trial MSM interviews Jentel explain black people do not trust cops, thus will not call them. However, if you think you are followed, you tend to get home if home is in front of you and not go look for the stalker. Remember, Jentel testify that TM lost GZ when he was talking to her. He was not in imminent danger (GZ was nowhere in sight) and once he chose not to go into the condo but turn around to hunt for GZ he is no longer a victim.

Also from same link above ---------

Zimmerman: And, the guy that lives there, I know, he's active in the neighborhood watch, and he's Caucasian.

GZ told the story of his 2/2/12 NEN call in more detail, and a little more accurately, than he had previously (45/47 of the logs). He called because he saw a black male showing an interest in 1460 Retreat View Cir., which GZ hadn't mentioned in the earlier interviews. When the police arrived the man had left. The police found all the windows and the garage door open, and the front door unlocked. GZ gave them the owner's phone number, and they got his consent to enter and secure the house.

SPD 2/29-1, 7:41-54 Quote:

Zimmerman: So when I saw him, in the same area, in front of the guy's house that I know [unintelligible] had been unsecured, and he was looking into the house, I just thought something doesn't fit right here.

Media keep saying that Martin was suspicious because he was black and wore a hoodie but that is not what the police interviews show. He was suspicious because he was looking into a house that had been targeted for a burglary two weeks earlier.

CR.....I will not add to anything said here except to say I am in full agreement with you. I recently wrote an open letter to the ignorant cop-wanna-be, Zimmerman, published here on HP.

Just as 95% of the comments here on your hub are also in agreement with you, ALL of the comments I received except ONE feel just as you and I do about this incident.

Aside from the one person who tried like hell to defend the indefensible actions of Zimmerman, another commenter took offense to the fact that I refer to Trayvon as "an innocent & unarmed young man."!! However, he claims Trayvon's FISTS were his weapon (Ludicrous!) and he was NOT innocent.

When I asked this person exactly what Trayvon was "guilty" of, I got no reply to that question. Not surprising at all.

Very good article on this tragic incident, CR. Congratulations for getting it RIGHT! UP+++ Peace, Paula
