You Can't Always Go by What They Say
just don't believe everything you hear...
A friend and I were talking the other day and he kept saying, “They say” or “He said” and I called his hand on it by saying. Who is he and who are they? He couldn’t respond or maybe he just didn’t remember just where he got his information. We continued talking and again he caught himself saying, “They said this” or “he said that…” Then something came to mind. I suddenly remembered a message I had heard at church and the scripture was from the New Testament, so I looked it up - “but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” James 3:8 ESV. A person can say just about anything they want, fact or fiction, but as my wise old dad used to always say, “just because they said it, that don’t make it so.” That’s right, people talk all day long and if we aren’t talking, we are probably listening to someone else talk like the TV or radio, a lecture or maybe just making conversation. Most talk - is just talk, but occasionally some people in our society do have the authority to ‘have the last word,’ and we want to rely on it, but this day and time you can’t always count on what you hear to be 100% undisputable fact. I also remember my mom telling me when I was just a little boy, “Don’t believe everything you hear and only half of what you see…”
He said, she said...
You may be thinking, where are you going with this Sam? Well, I’m just about to tell you. I would say that by now most people have heard about the trouble at Penn State University in Pennsylvania and are waiting just to hear what will finally happen and how will it all turn out. I would say some have already made up their own minds and have already formed opinions as to just what happened and may have even taken sides on the issue. One side is defending the coach by finding fault with the star witness’s testimony while the other side is in defense of the students as even more come forward to testify. Then today I hear of another instance at another school. Everyone is listening anxiously to find out the truth and what really happened.

What's going on in America...
We are also all concerned to hear the outcome of the Super Committee and their ability or inability to come to a consensus as to how to handle our countries debt crisis. The Democrats blame the Republicans and vice versa. Who is right? That wouldn’t be so hard to determine if the sides would just be honest. But if that is what we long for as Americans we may be looking in the wrong place. Both sides claim to be telling the truth and possess the will of the people. When this happens the country needs to look at the records since we aren’t about to make heads or tails from what we hear from congress. What is really going on in America? Could it be a little deeper than just seeking a compromise over how and who is to pay taxes? In truth we are being asked to choose between two completely different ideologies. We are being asked to make a decision as to which direction we want for our country. Do we as Americans want this country to remain America as we have always known it to be, or do we want to give up on our past and embrace a more Socialistic form of government like European countries by having larger government to control our lives by dictating while watching over the citizenry and providing everything even health care? We can’t rely on the news media anymore because they are certainly biased, most choosing to side with the liberals and remain ‘politically correct’ as opposed to siding with the original founding fathers. It matters who and what we vote for next November 6.
