Good morning Breakdastpoppers. Today is Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Our dear friend Chiquita Cicada has "popped" in for breakfast this morning. She is here to discuss the looming April 15th tax deadline. She is definitely feeling our pain. Please join us for a heaping platter of French toast and piping hot black coffee. Spiking it might be a good idea! Hope to see you soon.

Ouch!

Pay Up!

Hello, my dear human family. It's Chiquita here to discuss the monumental waste of your tax money. I hear the grumblings all over the place. Thousands upon thousands of dollars of your hard earned money is being handed over to your government. You have no choice. You have no say as to the manner in which your government spends your money. It is painful for me to realize that while you all struggle to save for retirement, or fund your retirement, or meet the rising costs of healthcare, or give your loved ones a leg up, your government officials are taking your money and taking off in a fleet of over 1700 planes on personal trips. You many not remember the last time you took a vacation, but those you elected have, at the ready, a long list of trips all over the world they have taken or plan to enjoy in the future. You, however, will never be made privy to those vacations. They live in a culture of entitlement. You live in the real world which requires that you fund even one trip with the greatest effort and care.

For the Love of Art

As you sit at your desk with your checkbook in your hand about to write a check to the federal government, you should know that the State Department is going to spend $400,000 of taxpayer funds to buy a sculpture for the spanking new American embassy being built in Islamabad, Pakistan. The piece is titled, 'Camel Contemplating Needle." Perhaps the federal government should commission another piece titled, "Taxpayer Contemplating Camel."

Ground Breaking Study

As you count your change to decide if you can take your family out for a pizza dinner, the federal government via the Department of Agriculture is using your pizza money to fund an $8,500 study of U.S. pizza consumption. If you and your family manage to grab that pizza dinner, enjoy it while you visualize the image of $130,000 of your tax dollars being handed over to the Baltimore Ravens to promote Obamacare. If you can afford it, you are going to need something to settle your stomach. You probably won't be able to enjoy nice bottle of wine with your pizza, but you should know that your tax dollars, namely $1.3 million of your tax dollars, was spent on government alcohol consumption last year! It's no wonder that Congress doesn't even attempt to read bills they don't write.

Endangered Birds Endanger Energy

Keeping your homes heated andyour cars filled with gasoline is costly. Tell that to federal officials in the Department of Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency. These agencies are very close to adding more than 700 new species of wildlife to the endangered list. Two of these species, the Sage Grouse and Prairie Chicken are primarily found in western states. Adding these two birds to the list will automatically limit the use of millions of acres of privately owned lands which are used for energy development and exploration. Be prepared to pay more money for energy and it would be advisable to pick up some sweaters. You aren't going to be able to heat your hones without emptying the bank.

In a Perfect World....

In a perfect world, you would be able to decide on an individual basis where you want your tax money to go. If I were a human, I would gladly spend mine to help soldiers retuning home from war. Whether it was used to help them recover from their injuries or it was used to help them re-establish their lives, the money would be well spent.

This despicable waste of tax dollars is hard to swallow. It has been going on forever and it must be stopped. Granny won't be able to afford a wheelchair, but the Sage Grouse will be taken care of in style.

Chiquita's Song

I'm Chiquita Cicada and I'm here to say

They are taking your tax dollars

And tossing them away!
