Your Taxes Up In Flames!

Chiquita

Good morning Breakdastpoppers. Today is Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Our dear friend Chiquita Cicada has "popped" in for breakfast this morning. She is here to discuss the looming April 15th tax deadline. She is definitely feeling our pain. Please join us for a heaping platter of French toast and piping hot black coffee. Spiking it might be a good idea! Hope to see you soon.

Pay Up!

Hello, my dear human family. It's Chiquita here to discuss the monumental waste of your tax money. I hear the grumblings all over the place. Thousands upon thousands of dollars of your hard earned money is being handed over to your government. You have no choice. You have no say as to the manner in which your government spends your money. It is painful for me to realize that while you all struggle to save for retirement, or fund your retirement, or meet the rising costs of healthcare, or give your loved ones a leg up, your government officials are taking your money and taking off in a fleet of over 1700 planes on personal trips. You many not remember the last time you took a vacation, but those you elected have, at the ready, a long list of trips all over the world they have taken or plan to enjoy in the future. You, however, will never be made privy to those vacations. They live in a culture of entitlement. You live in the real world which requires that you fund even one trip with the greatest effort and care.

A Camel!

For the Love of Art

As you sit at your desk with your checkbook in your hand about to write a check to the federal government, you should know that the State Department is going to spend $400,000 of taxpayer funds to buy a sculpture for the spanking new American embassy being built in Islamabad, Pakistan. The piece is titled, 'Camel Contemplating Needle." Perhaps the federal government should commission another piece titled, "Taxpayer Contemplating Camel."

Ground Breaking Study

As you count your change to decide if you can take your family out for a pizza dinner, the federal government via the Department of Agriculture is using your pizza money to fund an $8,500 study of U.S. pizza consumption. If you and your family manage to grab that pizza dinner, enjoy it while you visualize the image of $130,000 of your tax dollars being handed over to the Baltimore Ravens to promote Obamacare. If you can afford it, you are going to need something to settle your stomach. You probably won't be able to enjoy nice bottle of wine with your pizza, but you should know that your tax dollars, namely $1.3 million of your tax dollars, was spent on government alcohol consumption last year! It's no wonder that Congress doesn't even attempt to read bills they don't write.

Endangered Birds Endanger Energy

Keeping your homes heated andyour cars filled with gasoline is costly. Tell that to federal officials in the Department of Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency. These agencies are very close to adding more than 700 new species of wildlife to the endangered list. Two of these species, the Sage Grouse and Prairie Chicken are primarily found in western states. Adding these two birds to the list will automatically limit the use of millions of acres of privately owned lands which are used for energy development and exploration. Be prepared to pay more money for energy and it would be advisable to pick up some sweaters. You aren't going to be able to heat your hones without emptying the bank.

In a Perfect World....

In a perfect world, you would be able to decide on an individual basis where you want your tax money to go. If I were a human, I would gladly spend mine to help soldiers retuning home from war. Whether it was used to help them recover from their injuries or it was used to help them re-establish their lives, the money would be well spent.

This despicable waste of tax dollars is hard to swallow. It has been going on forever and it must be stopped. Granny won't be able to afford a wheelchair, but the Sage Grouse will be taken care of in style.

Chiquita's Song

I'm Chiquita Cicada and I'm here to say

They are taking your tax dollars

And tossing them away!

All very interesting, Chiquita. But, why am I not shocked? It is interesting how people come into congress and, in a few years, are millionaires. That is because they rarely have to go into their own pocket for things like travel. The Founding Fathers are spinning so fast in their graves that they have turned to butter. see you at the inn. Be wary of the cicada killers!

Chiquita - Being a bug of sorts, you most likely don't understand the complexities of the spending decisions made by our government.

Many of these seemingly stupid decisions are a means to fatten the wallets of friends or relatives of elected officials. Others are a means of rewarding individuals for making large campaign contributions.

The endangered species scam has long been used to deny private land owners the right to do what they wish with the land they own, and pay taxes on for the privilege of ownership.

Rarely if ever is there a name attached to any of these seemingly insane spending decisions. If the person or persons making these decisions were required to make this information public, they might be a little more careful?

It is also common to blame a building such as the White House or the Pentagon for wasteful spending. "That darn building wasted more of our hard earned tax dollars."

In reality the big problem is there is no individual accountability where individuals are required to explain to us the reasoning for these insane decisions. Until that happens, nothing will change.

Good Morning dear human friend taxlarry,

Did you now that most of the millionaires in Congress are Dems? How's that for public service!!! See you at the Inn. I'm buying pizza and drinks. I need to study both and take back some of my tax money, or should I say, your tax money.

Good Morning Mike,

Thank you for your thoughtful explanation. We also have a bit of this corruption in the bug world. Our solution is simple. We just eat our enemies. In the human world, the federal government, namely the politicians, eat the voters. If only it were possible to elect people with integrity and talent. Am I just being a naive bug? See you at the Inn. I'm buying!

Chiquita - It will take years before you really gain an understanding of human behaviour.

To my knowledge, nobody has ever questioned why anyone would spend a few million of their own dollars to get a job that pays about $170K per year. Even the most basic math would tell us this is a very poor investment unless they know something we don't know.

We do know for a fact that no politician has ever left office with less money than they had when they got the job.

Pop and Chiquita,

The scalawags running our government have a voracious appetite for other peoples money. Maybe we should sprinkle some arsenic on it.

I've always loved the words "pork barrel"....I don't love what they mean, and I certainly don't love their application, but you have to admit, the two words together are somehow poetic. :) Sarcastic? Probably just a little.

The cry of the colonists was "Taxation without representation is tyranny". Now we face, and have for some time, the reality of taxation without accountability. There's no way to stop it; it's ingrained in our political system. Even if all Americans voted the current bunch out and refreshed our Congress with new blood, these would continue the policies of waste.

It used to be that Congressmen rode their horses to Congress and their horses were stalled under the Capitol. Now they fly and all that remains of the early days and ideals is the horse s--t they pass on to the taxpayers.

Does anyone still believe that the goal of the Washington political class is to represent We, the People, and protect our freedoms and liberties?

The Founding Fathers knew that the political class could not be trusted, so they gave us a Constitution that limited the size, scope, and power of government and they also gave us the Second Amendment to make sure those Constitutional limitations were heeded.

That's why the political class has tried so hard to disarm America, and that's now the only thing that stands between We, the People and tyranny.

POP: This wasteful spending has always "bugged" me. After the Bengazi debacle, I would be drinking a lot more if I was in the State Dept. By the way, I'll that the 1.3 Million for the pizza study. 99.999999 % of people love pizza. How's that? I'm so disgusted, I'm off to the Inn. Chiquita, save me a seat....

I'll just second what WillStarr had to say.

Dear Mike,

You are very wise. Commit your life to public service and do it honestly and you end up with bills and the kind of problems ordinary humans face. Commit your life to public service and play the game and you end up a millionaire. The process stinks! See you at the Inn.

Good Morning Tom,

We should stop giving them free access to our money. They should have to account to us for every penny they spend! See you at the Inn.

Dear billy,

Well, pork is fine and barrels can hold lots of fabulous things. The problem is, like everything else, when these two components fall into the wrong hands chaos ensues. To the Inn, Billy!

Dear Hxprof,

I say put someone with integrity and a brain in charge of spending and things could turn around. We spend money on garbage and I, as a taxpayer, am sick of it. See you at the Inn.

Dear Gawth,

If we could turn "horsesh-t" into fuel, we would be energy rich. See you at the Inn. I am buying all night.

Hubber drbj has an entertaining little article titled 'Pig Facts and Pig Trivia'. I wonder sometimes if congress-critters that focus on bringing home the bacon to their constituents truly understand the origins of pork barrel politics. However, it is clear that their constituents do not, or they'd stop voting for them.

I’ll post the link in another comment, just in case it needs to be deleted.

Dear Pino,

Sorry, I didn't answer sooner. HP didn't notify me via e-mail! We should all be drinking in light of the hideous way the government spends our money. I can't take it anymore! I'm off to the Inn. It's not quite 10 in the morning, so I hope they let me in. Chiquita and I will await your arrival.

We will soon have the opportunity to get rid of some of the dead weight filling the chairs in Congress. I fear that the low information types and the "Party Line" voters will make this difficult, but not impossible.

I just wonder if those new people we elect to fill these chairs will be any better than those we are replacing. The "Washington Culture" is firmly in place and not easily changed. The really big problem is this culture that needs to be changed. Perhaps seeing some of their buddies packing their bags and hitting the trail will be a step in the right direction.

breakfastpop profile image

Dear Mike,

We need to attract smart people with integrity and talent. We need to make sure that they don't look at serving in Congress as a lifetime achievement award. The only way Congress has so many millionaires is through corruption. The job, itself" is not that high paying. Just for the record the most millionaires in Congress are Dems, you know, the party that loves to demonize the rich. See you at the Inn. Let's have dinner and imagine a world without liars and thieves.

WillStarr profile image

"I just wonder if those new people we elect to fill these chairs will be any better than those we are replacing."

When was a new congress any better than the old one? Our Constitution was shredded when the Supreme Court during FDR said the interstate commerce clause allowed Congress to regulate just about anything.

Dear Will,

Of course, you make a great point, but I still (and it isn't easy) want to believe that there are people out there who have integrity. We really have to demand much more from the people we elect. See you at the Inn.

Dear Mike,

Honestly, that is my fear. The hideous part of all of this is that my children, who are highly educated and decent, don't seem concerned enough. That is very troubling. See you at the Inn.

Patti - It seems that many things are never missed until they are lost. It is difficult for our youth to imagine losing something they have always had.

Dear Mike,

I get that, I really do. Growing up, I never could imagine having a war in our country. Things are different now. This is a different world and a violent world. I fear for my grandchildren.

All our dollars going down the river in a barrel -- better said, a keg!

I honestly believe the situation with the rancher in Nevada is just the beginning of what we will see. The people have had it with this government and are starting to rise up.

It will be interesting to see what develops from this incident with the rancher and the angry mob of citizens. At least nobody was killed or injured which is a good thing. Somebody used good judgement when they pulled the Feds out of there.

Good Morning Mike,

I was shocked when they pulled back. I felt a huge sense of relief when the ranchers and their supporters stood up for themselves. I hope the movement spreads. Enjoy the day, Mike.
