Is it acceptable that the federal government require you to buy a certain type of light bulb?
I don't believe it is. The last time I looked, Underwriter Laboratories had not declared the tungsten wire light bulb as somethine undesireable. On the other hand, the new flourescent bulbs contain mercury which is far more dangerous than an old light bulb if it accumulates. I have also found that these bulbs do not last any longer or in many cases as long as a regular bulb yet they require special handling when they are no longer serviceable. At this point and time in our "evironmentally conscious" nation, we should not be yoked with such a flaw. It is hypocritical of the whole mindset. It also shows you how fake the whole business really is...people are making money off of the "greening of America" right and left and the consumer is the victim who suffers with the conscience. Don't let them get to you! WB
In the U.S.A., we are supposed to have freedom.
I believe the modern socialists are stripping our rights before our very eyes.
Your question may not even be a real question, sometime in the near future.
As a matter of fact, maybe in about twenty years, you can word it something like this:
Do you think the federal government will allow us to use certain types of light bulbs in our house?
In short, I do not believe it is acceptable for the federal government to choose the type of lights
we should use in our house.
I do believe the federal government is thinking the citizens are too stupid to make their own
choices though.
Our rights are slowly being stripped away. Health care is one example.
Was it right for the government to ban lead paint? Was it right for the government to integrate schools in the South? Was it right for the government to set limits on harmful pollutants in air and water?
WB - I do agree with your point of hyprocrisy on the use of mercury in "green" light bulbs. I don't get this either and as such, the government should not think about banning incadescent lights without an environmentally safe alternative.
Furthermore, I wonder if a black market will develop for the old incadescent light bulb.

It's generally accepted that if everyone would wear masks, we could substantially reduce the number of COVID infections. To get America back on its feet and to reduce COVID, how would you respond to a federal mask requirement for 3 months? This would be a limited legal requirement for a limited...

As far as this whole Separation of Church and State thing in the United States is concerned, I personally believe that it is necessary. For example, the words “Separation of Church and State” are not physically found in the US Constitution. Yet it does say that, quote:“No law shall be passed...

We watched Ken Burn's series on The Civil War this past weekend (all umpteen episodes---my partner is sick and it is winter in Michigan, so you know, we had time), and I was struck by the similarities between Lincoln's era and our era, and the similarities between Lincoln and Obama. Not all the...
