Jack, we are not talking about money...we are talking about certain inalienable rights and without wanting to go all American because I am English that means life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I think a lot of what I am about to say is perfectly summed up in an episode of Frasier and I am paraphrasing, "Men cannot use sex to get what we want, sex IS what we want!"
My point is that men and women ARE NOT equal and when people finally get that through their thick heads the better we will all be.
I am not once suggesting that either be subjugated to the other or put on a pedestal but that equality and fairness should be everyones right, including men.
I watch the news so often and it seems almost all the time a dad is shut out of his childrens life simply because of his gender..the judges in cases of family law should go back to school, take a dictionary with them and learn what the word "equality" actually means.
I could tak a little about work place situations but don't think I need to bother, yes it is true that in most cases a man will earn more than a woman but you have to remember that they are in the vast majority of cases the sole breadwinner, some women simply want to have their cake and get to eat it too like a job is some kind of prize that they worked for and had to come through centuries of oppression to win.
Get over it, you have the job...you cannot expect to have months off and God knows what else in the future and expect to be treated the same.
On the other hand women in jobs of high power are far more likely to keep everyone else in their company down because biologically they are not hardwired to be co-operative like men, in the stone ages if we on a hunt did not work together and have the same rights as each other someone is going to get dead...the worst a female had to worry about was grabbing the highest berries and keeping everyone away from them.
You cannot ask such a broad question as "does this group have more rights" without first going to the beginning and finding out WHY a certain group is different from another.
No one should be discriminated against regardless of colour, race, religion, gender or preferences but we do not live in that world...we live in a prejudiced world but going to the other extreme is very dangerous.
