Could there be a comparison between campaign spending and government spending?

If campaign spending is any reflection on government spending, Bush spent $100M; Obama $750M and now Obama's goal is to spend $1B for 2012!  His April 2011 San Francisco fund-raiser dinner 'cost' $35,000 per head!  Consider an entire house could be built in Haiti for just $3,000.00...

One thing that is very different about the spending.
Campaign contributions are voluntary and the spending of them goes back into the economy. Government spending comes from our taxes and goes to a lot of places.

Hah! i think that's more of a statement than a questions - Yes. It's pretty disturbing how much money is squandered on campaign fundraising when voters can really make decisions on who they will vote for based off of aired debates and appearances.

I think Obama should donate much of his campaign money (75%) to charity - would definitely send a good message!

Maybe... I think the more interesting question though would be, do all of the individuals and corporations who donate tens of thousands, even millions of dollars to candidates who will keep their taxes low spend more, the same or less  on campaign contributions than they would on taxes if they were allowed to go up?

It's fair to say that Obama bought the election and he plans to buy the re-election with the help of scum like George Soros. Campaigns should have imposed budgets with upper limits.  For example, if you are running for President, you can spend no more than 100 million dollars.  When you reach that point, your spending is over and you reap whatever benefit in terms of vote that your dollars effectively reached.  Your opponent has the same limitation so it gets down to skill and talent. Maybe skill and talent are what we need in a president, so why not show it in the election process?  Americans are extremely stupid in this regard and we will probably continue to remain so. WB
