Why are US taxpayers paying for billions of dollars in subsidies to oil companies?

Big Oil says that if this form of corporate welfare ended that Americans will pay more at the pump - as  if Martian taxpayers pay it instead of you and me - including the bike riders who don't own cars!

A good question.  Why is one of the most profitable industries still given tax subsidies by a broke federal government?  These tax subsidies were created in different times decades ago when oil's price had crashed and the oil industry needed support to keep drilling.  Now, they exist because the oil industry lobbyists keep greasing the palms of members of Congress.  What a disgrace and affront to the capitialist system.

I think that this is proof that the USA is a facist country - that is  - "by the corporates for the corporates." This America would be unrecognizable to our founding fathers.

BTW - Did you know that corporations at one time were not allowed to live forever as the undead, sucking up the life forces of workers?

The legal "person" status of corporations gives the business perpetual life - a real life vampire!

In 1844, the U.S. Supreme Court held that a corporation is "capable of being treated as a citizen of, as much as a natural person."

As I have pointed out...the intelligence level is America is severly lacking.  Once a subsidy or a pork barrel operation is begun, it is is almost guaranteed that it will never end because it is last year's business or it is that part of the payoff the industry gets for pouring money into some Senator's coffers for re-election.  If indeed there is an industry in America which can stand on its own two feet it must be oil and gas yet the American taxpayers have to subsidize it.  Next in line is the environmental side with ethanol being sudsidized even though gas prices have reached a level at which ethanol should be competitive.  At the same time, ethanol has been proved to be a worse carbon producer for the environment than gasoline if you put any stock in the carbon theory at all.  Its all sex, lies, and video tape from my perspective.  We need to shut it all down, recycle the circuit breakers and make a decision which one gets restarted and which one is over.  That will never fly in Congress because it takes away power and prestige and that is all that really matters to most of those hypocrites riding up there on the public dole.
